I volunteered at this beautiful Louis Sullivan building during Open House Chicago and highly recommend their weekend tours

Our docent, Grace, gave us an hourlong tour of Holy Trinity and we were captivated from beginning to end. A beautiful piece of Chicago, and Orthodox history. Highly recommend visiting!

A beautiful OCA Orthodox Cathedral established by Saint John of Chicago.

Didn't stay for the mass, but popped in because I heard the building was designed by Louis Sullivan, the famous architect who taught Frank Lloyd Wright. I was not at all disappointed. the building is absolutely beautiful and has a lovely feeling of peace and silence, which can be hard to find in busy Chicago.

Holy Trinity Cathedral is an amazing piece of American architectural and cultural heritage, the birthplace and geographical epicenter of Orthodox Christianity in Chicago and beyond.

This is my spiritual home and there’s no place like it. Walking on the same ground as saints have walked, it is humbling and meditative. Come experience the mystery of feeling and literally talking with the saints. ☮️

Had the pleasure of visiting this beautiful church during Open House Chicago. A wonderfully nice parishioner gave me an education about John Kochurov, He was a priest of the Russian Orthodox Church who came to the United States in the late 1890s. He was active in establishing parishes and aiding communities, mainly in the Midwest. After returning to Russia he was assigned in 1916 to Tsarskoe Selo. He was killed during the early days of the Bolshevik revolution. He became the first hieromartyr of the Soviet Revolution. It was a great visit.

A beautiful Russian Orthodox church in the middle of Ukrainian Village in Chicago, established 120 years ago. Very friendly parish and caring priest Father Alexander.

We took a tour of this church. Their commentary was very good. It is a small church, far from the Chicago loop, but well worth a visit.

Holy Trinity Orthodox Cathedral was built by Russian immigrants to Chicago in 1903. It is a magnificent structure with gold leaf onion domes and traditional Russian-Ukrainian 3 barred crosses. It is a must see in West Town! Holy Trinity has been a spiritual center for Orthodox Christians living in the greater Chicago metropolitan area. Designed by Louis H. Sullivan, under the leadership of St. John of Chicago, it was consecrated by St. Tikhon of Moscow. An official City of Chicago Landmark, the Cathedral is also listed on the National Register of Historic Places.

BONG!!!! BONG!!! BONG!!!! Though it pains me to say, this review will having nothing to do with the ganj. It's lucky I'm an early riser because Holy Trinity's incessant tolling might piss me off. It's 9:30am on Sunday and I'm actually enjoying the cacophony ensuing right up the block. It makes me feel like when I venture outside I'll be stepping onto some picturesque square in medieval Prague instead of a street full of badly parked cars and cigarette butts. Russian and Orthodox I am not, but I've actually been inside this place. On weekends they open 'er up to us nosey nonbelievers to have a look 'round. Not really a guided tour per se but the girl at the door was very friendly and able to answer questions. Expect lots of icons* and I think what could best be terms as a "relic". And Louis Sullivan is the shit. So this church pleases me. It offers as a sound landmark when directing guests to my nearby abode and it also allows me to make a complete fool out of myself (much to the amusement of these guests)when I drunkenly hang off the balcony and yell "CHURCH!" at people leaving Mass at 3am during the orthodox Easter season. *I'm knocking off one star because icons STILL scare the shit out of me. My step-mom is Ukrainian Catholic and when I'd go to stay at my step-grandma's house when I was little I would freak the fuck out because she had an icon hanging right by the bed and I couldn't sleep. I attended the 1963 Eastern Orthodox Easter Liturgy here as an "Honored Guest" from the local Chicago hotbed of ecumenicism at the time, Christ the Redeemer Church on Fullerton near California Avenue. Also attending with me was a visiting Religious Brother from Pittsburg. There were no "pews" and we stood at the front throughout the entire Liturgy, being the first and last to be incensed every time the celebrants broke out the censor. The entire service, which included circling the Church in procession three times, took about four hours. There are several magnificent and historic Churches in Chicago which are worthy of a visit, and this is definitely one of them!
