On the Grid : Happy Village

"Love table tennis? Then make your way to Happy Village to test your skills against some eclectic locals at one of our favorite dive-bar/packaged goods spots in the neighborhood. If you’re like us and only get “better” after a few PBRs, don’t be surprised when you get your ass handed to you before you even realize you’ve finished volleying for the serve. But don’t worry, their expansive back patio, calming waterfall and dirt cheap beers are the perfect remedy for whatever ails you." - Potluck Creative

Where To Break Up With Someone, If You Really Can’t Do It At Your Apartment

"If you would like to do this breakup at someone’s home (just not your own), consider heading to Happy Village, which is like visiting an old house. This Ukrainian Village bar has a ping-pong space inside and a backyard that feels like you’re hanging out at your aunt’s place in the suburbs, except you can leave whenever you want. Which will probably be soon." - adrian kane

Happy Village is best enjoyed with a group of people. The action takes place in the beer garden out back which has some of the best people watching in East Village. Fun can also be had on the ping-pong tables in side room. Cash only and no draught beer.

Fun cash only bar. Two ping pong tables in the back room. Nice beer garden. Never had any problem bringing in outside food. Fast service. Cheap. Male bathroom in the hall way smells terrible but you might find it adds to the charm.

When you first enter the bar it looks like a typical dive bar. They have reasonably priced drinks and the NFL or baseball games on TV. But when you go into the patio - it is awesome. They have long tables and shade from the sun in a great neighborhood. If the weather is nice (even if it is raining a bit since they have a tent) it is fantastic. You need to bus your own drinks and stuff but who cares. They even have a little koi pond outside. But if you aren’t going outside it is a typical dive bar experience.

I went there this past weekend for a friend's birthday and was pleasantly surprised by the atmosphere. First of all, it was much easier to get to than expected since I don't live in the neighborhood. The outdoor patio is huge and a great place to meet a big group of people. The drinks were reasonably priced. Overall, a happy little neighborhood place.

Happy village is one of my favorite local bars. They have a really great backyard seating area covered in vines and 2 ping pong tables that are free to use. I've met some great people here while playing. Lots of fun!

Perfect throwback neighborhood dive-y bar with a perfect patio for summer drinking. Apparently the ping pong room is on the way out, but enjoy it while it lasts. Great option if you're in the area.

Classic neighborhood pub with an awesome patio. Tamale man comes through on warm nights. Inside has a game room with pingpong and foosball. The rest of the inside, including the bar area, is wonderfully period to some time in the past where bars were random and awesome. Renovation coming in spring/summer 2020 so go soon!
