Hannah's Bretzel

I’m German so theoretically I should love this place, but the menu items are slightly off. The Winter Spiced Butternut Squash is over seasoned. For breakfast they have a “Wild Caught Atlantic Smoked Salmon + Organic Egg” sandwich, but they add goat cheese and it ruins the meal. They aren’t open past 3pm (sometimes 2pm). The combo offers don’t interest me. The website is confusing, over engineered, and hard to navigate. That said, the Double Smoked Bacon sandwich is very good (make sure to get the pretzel bun). The Wisconsin Farmhouse Cheddar is good. Tomato Bisque is ok.

When the clock’s ticking and a hungry office needs catering, I can always rely on Hannah’s Bretzels to come in on time. I swear i’ve walked into this store with a line out the door, dozens of door shakers in the lobby, having placed my order 15 minutes prior—miraculously, they still get it done! The food’s great too… shoutout to Leslie, the friendly cashier, and the entire sandwich making line! You guy’s rock!

Didn’t know what to expect but holy cow! Is good! Their winter alpine soup (seasonal) is super filling especially paired with amazing Serrano Ham Pretzel Bun sandwich. Wow the fig jam was not overbearing and the manchego was so yum. Could have been more manchego-y. Did. Struggle with the kettle chips — they were a tad oxidized but that’s expected from any bagged deli chips. V cute ambiance and everyone was so sweet! They got a huge selection of imported and domestic fancy chocolates. YASS

Great sandwiches and salads served in a warm modern ambiance. The pretzel buns add a great flavor and texture to the sandwiches. The salads are fresh, reasonably priced and delicious. The owner is also a big chocolate fan so make sure to check the crazy selection of chocolates at the store.

Most poorly constructed sandwich ever. Classic Turkey Club on pretzel baguette. Impossible to eat without it falling apart. It should have been cut in half. Anyway this $12 sandwich ended up in the trash. I'll never go there again!)

Pleasantly surprised to find that it's more than an average soup / sandwich place, and tastes good. I expected standard menu items like turkey, cheese, chicken, club sandwich, chicken Noodle soup, broccoli cheese... But they have prosciutto, goat cheese, gruyere, salmon, avocado, kale and white bean soup, pea and Avocado soup, etc.

When I came back to the store during my lunch meeting, I was told that I still had to pay for the additional salad that is already listed on my receipt as paid for. After leaving this review that Owner Florian continued to email me, harrassing me about their policy, instead of admitting the online ordering system is flawed and should have not allowed me to add items that were not optional. Florian was so out of line, I had to tell him to practice restraint as a business owner and leave me alone. I will never go back here. And they double charged me for my order. It's still pending from almost a week ago, and I believe Florian did so on purpose because of my review.

If you're considering a job at Hannah's Bretzels, be ready for a lack of proper training. You'll need to memorize more than 11 sandwiches in just a few weeks, work with coworkers who hardly speak English, and deal with managers who treat you poorly, especially if they think you're not fast enough. Norma is the worst manager you could encounter. She will compare you to other coworkers and belittle you in front of customers if you don’t meet her expectations. Wesley isn't as obvious, but he's just as bad. He will give you ridiculous tasks and complain about things nobody else had to deal with, then tell you that you're not a good fit for sandwich making LOL. I've seen him let go of respectful and hardworking employees just because he can. Also, steer clear of Alex Martinez; he’ll act friendly and gossip about other managers and coworkers to get information from you, only to report it back to Wesley. It’s not a good place for anyone who doesn’t want to feel like a low-level factory worker or be taken advantage of. 👎👎

On our way to see the One-of-a-Kind show at the Merchandise Mart, my stomach started growling. Luckily, Hannah's Bretzel was open on that Saturday morning. I got the Veggie Blast sandwich with almonds and a lemonade. A perfect pick-me-up for a day of browsing. Fresh, crisp veggies and smoothie avocado on a multigrain bun, washed down with a perky lemonade. A perfect way to calm my growling stomach as I ventured up to the 7th floor show. If you're ever at the Merchandise Mart with a growling stomach, stop by Hannah's Bretzel and give them a try!

Located in the same office building so extremely convenient and the staff are super nice. The pretzel sandwich makes it more unique and nice change from other sandwiches. The place is clean and kinda quiet so great for lunch conversations.

I'll say that I really enjoy their devotion to locally sourced ingredients, as well as their pretzel buns being fantastic in flavor. Their sandwiches, as a whole, are extremely good. That said, they're quite small and rather expensive. In Chicago, a place with nearly the highest sales tax in the US, the sandwich better be large and hearty. Now, prices of sandwiches at local sandwich establishments will be higher than chains, and of course, you should support local. BUT, this is a once in an extremely blue moon type of place. I might eat here once a year when I'm craving one of their signatures, but not much else. This place has fantastic soup, though, and I'd recommend anyone try it.

great catering option! most of Chicago wasn't open until 11am on Saturday, Wesley and crew were on time and came in early to prep the order before 9am. Sandwiches were labeled and fresh and total success for yacht snacks on a 6 hour charter. will go again!

Ordered delivery to the office. Not worth the money. These sandwiches are snacks, not lunch. They are SO tiny! Then when I went to take a picture of how small it was, I noticed a hair in my sandwich!! gross!!!

Pros: Hugeeee assortment of snacks specialty chocolates & teas The space is very clean! The staff was very friendly and happy! Pretzel bread is sooo good! All toppings are very fresh. Pesto spread and tomato aioli is Delicious! Cons: Subs are tiny! So glad I didn't split one w my husband. I thought my sub came with turkey and almost cried when I bit into it and realized it had no turkey and no cheese. Regardless the bread is amazing! Just make sure you're not really hungry.

I was hesitant about this sandwiches place but it's become one of my favorites! It's one of the best cáprese sandwiches i've had. I was skeptical of the nut free pesto (not even sure how you make pesto without nuts) but it was the best pesto i've had. I'm also not a balsamic girly, but I really enjoyed it with this sandwich. Tasted very fresh and healthy. Add avocado to it and it makes it better! The price was decent and around average for sandwich places.

The sandwich is good. Fresh ingredients and the pretzel bread is very good. The size is a bit smaller than I expected, but it was fine for me. Clean restaurant.

I have been to eat here a few weeks ago because I was nearby and the location was a good option. I have now returned four more times because the sandwich I ordered was that amazing. I have even driven in from the suburbs over 45 minutes away to go get food from here, Everything is fresh and delicious and combined in a way that you don't see at any other shops. This place is amazing. Go check it out.

Everything I buy tastes better and better. The roasted cauliflower soup made me moan! The Marisol sandwich! YUM! The best salads I have ever had! I am moving my firm from the building where one HB is located ; and missing it already! I hope they deliver! Superior! Substitutions are too expensive, but not necessarily really.

Big flavor, big price, small sandwiches. The pretzel bread is flavorful and so are the combination of ingredients in the sandwiches. The Wisconsin had apples which added some crunch and created different textures in the sandwich which was great. Overall we dropped about $40 for a meal for two, drinks and a wafer dessert. Felt like the bread was as wide as an Olive Garden breadstick. Soup was dope and probably would just get two soups and share one sandwich next time. Enjoyed the outdoor seating and the view too.

There was a CRICKET or LOCUST in my Italian parma sandwich. Thank god it fell out before I actually bit into it. I had high expectations for this bretzel sandwich because I'm usually a huge fan of pretzel buns. Imagine my surprise when I paid $14 for this tiny sandwich and almost swallowed a bug.

No free water for paying customers. Sandwich was sub par at best. Definitely do not recommend.

I ordered the lunch combo which included a Turkey and farmhouse cheddar along with an Ella salad. All decent enough although pricy ($16). What bothered me as a customer is i asked for a cup of water because I'm not interested in the drinks they offer. The person behind the counter said they don't give customers free water!!!Seriously? IT'S TAP WATER. I've never heard of this. Even though it may seem like a small item it's tough to believe they would force customers to pay for drinks they don't want after paying so much for a meal.

I enjoyed the Free Range Chicken and Avocado sandwich on a bretzel that we ordered as part of a catered lunch box! There was pesto sauce in addition to the chicken and avocado and the combination of the three was quite tasty! The box lunch also included an apple and a bag of chips. Would overall recommend this place to anyone looking to cater lunch boxes for their work place.

Great sandwiches--have been enjoying them for years in the loop and catering for family get togethers. My closest to home location is at LaSalle & Hubbard, but I can't deal with the excessively loud music anymore. It's not enjoyable to eat there. I guess this is why it's empty on a Wednesday at 12:30 PM.

What's better than combining the 2 best things in life: pretzel + bread = amazing concoction Bretzel. The soft doughy pretzel baguette and wecken roll are divine. I couldn't decide and glad I got both! The Seasonal Angry Tofu on bretzel baquette was fun to try with a spicy kick from the Harissa sauce and the marinated tofu in a pepperjack hot sauce. Avocado, mixed greens, and tomatoes balanced out the flavor. The baguette was filling with little room to spare. You can get 1/2 portion on the wecken roll. The savory and sweet combination of the Wecken roll and preserves hits the spot! I was skeptical, but glad my hubby ordered it! Will definitely come back for more Bretzel! Wish there were locations on the East Coast, please open up a store in DC!

I've had Hannah's Bretzel in the past but this was my first time visiting this location. Everyone who worked there was very friendly and greeted me when I came in. My sandwich was delicious and I decided to eat in while the rain passed. When I left I got caught in it and the manager came outside to offer me an umbrella! So kind and great food

Scrumptious delivered lunch to our offices in the merchandise mart. I had the salmon and onion on a pretzel bagel roll. Delicious, fresh and filling. Would definitely order again.

I love this place. It's near my work, so I've come here a few times. The Marisol is my favorite. Amazing flavors and textures throughout the sandwich. Also a plus it's locally sourced food!

My first time coming here with one of my co-workers. She told me how good this place was to come for a sandwich. Since we didn't have much options here in the downtown area due to many restaurants closed during Covid. Prices are way too high to be paying for a cold sandwich. Over priced and the sandwich wasn't that good. I rather eat a sub at Subway. Very disappointed. One of the guys over the counter wasn't that friendly. I understand that during these difficulty timing business is slow. But I thought how rude he was to stand there and complain. We were the only one in line and stood there waiting and listening to him talk to the other employees. Just not professional to have your customers wait in line to be served. Only to hear him complain and be grumpy. Lost my business on this one.

The sandwiches are creative and tasty but the artisan chocolate selection was the standout for me: Madecasse, Dolfin, Vosges, Michel Cluizel, Poco Dolce, Lake Champlain, Dandelion and tons more.

Pretty disappointing with this sandwich. I ordered the Turkey Club. They start out with 2 small slices of back, 2 small half slices of cheese that didn't cover the whole sandwich and then 1-1/2 slices of turkey. Load it up with Lettuce and Tomato to make it look like a bigger sandwich. When I mentioned the amount of turkey on the sandwich they just look at you like you're crazy and rush you along the line to get you to pay and leave. For the price you pay for these sandwiches it should contain some more meat and cheese. They give you a choice of a bag of chips or a small container of Almonds. I picked the bag of chips which contain about 8 chips. I Will not be visiting this place again.

So I have been craving a soft pretzel for quite some time now... When I saw Hannah's I knew I had to give it a whirl. Let me tell you, this place combines two of the finer things in life- pretzels and sandwiches. Yum! I got the Hannah's Classic Club that had turkey, bacon, red onions, tomatoes, cheddar, and a delicious dijonaise. (& usually I don't even like mayonnaise!) My sandwich also came with house chips that are ruffled kettle chips with sea salt & black pepper. The chips added a nice crunch to the soft bun. The environment here is pretty laid back and they also have outdoor seating for when it is warm. The restaurant was clean and since you order at the counter, all of the ingredients are in plain sight and look/taste fresh. I'm excited to try the breakfast sandwiches here next time!

This is one of my fav breakfast spots because in the nice weather, I can sit outside with my dog, and when it's cold, I can tie her up outside quickly and its away from the street/sidewalk so I dont feel worried about her. The food is fresh as its cooked to order. Its def a little pricey when you weigh that against portion size, but it's always tasty and the employees are nice (to me and the dog!) Cant speak for every Hannah's location but have been going to this one for nearly 6 years and will definitely miss it when I move. PS - try The Publican breakfast sammie, you won't regret it!

Great place to grab a quick bite! Felt kind of like a mini trip to Germany. I had the Veggie Bomb pretzel sandwich which was pretty tasty. Everything seemed fresh and high quality. Had a German beer with my lunch too. I came at a weird hour 3pm so had the place to mostly myself, but I imagine during lunch hour it can get chaotic. Restaurant is spacious, clean and a good relaxing atmosphere. I noticed some outlets and think this would be a decent place to get some work done also (if you don't mind the kind of clubby European music)

Great sandwiches and unique idea with the pretzel bread (who doesn't love that?) I tried the breakfast once and ordered the roasted garden veggies w/ cheese and eggs and it was good! But it was literally the tiniest sandwich I've ever bought and had a scant amount of everything. If I were making this at home I would have loaded up on the veggies and made it my own. But I did appreciate that they used very fresh ingredients and made it in front of you (including scrambling the egg). Another time I went for lunch and ordered the pesto/caprese sandwich. At least this one was on a proper slice of bread. Again, very tasty and fresh ingredients. If it were a little less expensive or they gave you a little more food (not even bread, but loaded up on the veggies) I would be inclined to go here more often. I do understand though that good quality produce is expensive, and I'm not sure if this is a national store or not, but with a lack of economies of scale, supplies are even more expensive. I do like the concept though, and appreciate the freshness so I hope they continue to do well.

This is a pleasant counter service restaurant that specializes in sandwiches made on pretzel bread, hence the name. The bread is fairly small and it's not that cheap, so don't expect a Subway experience. The focus is on fairly healthy combinations such as a turkey club. The health aspects are somewhat offset by the hundreds of chocolate bars lining the queue--dieters beware! Service is well organized and there is a pleasant outside dining area.

Stopped in here for a quick bite to eat before I started exploring Chicago in earnest. The food was good I had the Italian Bresaola & Avocado Sandwich with chips. The pretzel bread was tasty, and I appreciate the emphasis on quality ingredients. A bit pricey for a sandwich, but it was a solid meal. Recommend if you're in a rush and looking for a spot to grab a quick bite.

Asked for a cup of tap water to go with the soup and sandwich I just bought and they refused. They said I need to buy a bottle of water, they don't have a soda fountain. I asked can you just fill a cup with tap water from the sink and they refused. So weird, what restaurant denies a cup of water after buying an entire meal...

Have to give a big shoutout to Hannah's Bretzel for being such an awesome business that my family craves, as Hannah's has stood tall in tough conditions for Chicago this year. Today, we were able to get a bunch of our favorites delivered to the Loop from this location, even after the weekend riots made Loop access more difficult and shut almost every food business downtown. Hannah's sandwiches are THE food we crave when away from Chicago and so glad we were able to get lunch today from here! We try and support local businesses during the virus lockdown and since we were out of Chicago for the past few months, the best we could do is buy a package of Hannah's sandwiches to send to frontline hospital workers. All the food at Hannah's is fresh, healthy and delicious so that alone deserves your business, but it's always a company that does everything the right way. I used to live a block from their first location at Washington/Wells so I've seen the growth and can say, even as I get grumpier with age, that Hannah's has always done things the proper way and it's a company that's great to support while enjoying their delicious food.

Loved this place! Went for the first time today for lunch. Ordered a turkey and cheese sandwich which was so tasty. The employees were kind and very efficient. The restaurant has lots of options for food: Sandwiches, pretzels (duh), and chocolate! All of it looked good so I will def be coming back.

Quick, healthy and delicious sandwich shop chain. They also sell chocolates and coffee. Their large seating area is great for working, especially since they offer free (fast) WiFi. I ordered the Veggie Bomb sandwich on my way to the Loop. The lady who prepared my sandwich worked quickly and was very friendly. I took my sandwich down the counter and paid the cashier $8 and sat in the sunny seating area. The Veggie Bomb was served on a whole wheat baguette. It had cucumbers, tomatoes, sprouts, avocado and a honey Dijon sauce. It was simple but oh, so delicious! I was able to eat the whole thing in one sitting and thankfully wasn't left feeling sluggish. I would love to come back to try more of their sandwiches!

It's unfortunate that I'm writing this review but I feel this needs to be addressed. My problem is not with the food but with the service. I go up to order my meal and the woman taking orders and preparing the food notified that lunch isn't being served at this time, so reluctantly I ordered something I didn't want. Everyone has a bad day and today is the Chicago Marathon so I'm sure she saw more cliental then she cared for but this shouldn't be taken out in the customers. When I go to pay for my meal I notified the manager of my encounter with the food prep woman. He told me we are serving lunch now. So from the time ordered my breakfast sandwich to the check out lunch menu is now available. What cooks me the most is she could have told me lunch isn't being served right now but we will in a few minutes. I would have waited. Instead I settled and that's all my fault, the lesson for me folks is never settle especially when you are paying for it. It takes one shitty attitude to ruin in for the bunch. I will tell everyone I know that this place lacks customer service skills and go spend your hard earned money somewhere else.

I've been here many (and I mean many) times since I first reviewed Hannah's Bretzel in 2013. And guess what? It's still just as good! My boyfriend loves the Hannah's Club, and I love the Pesto + Mozzarella. We've never changed up our order because why mess with a good thing? And both sandwiches are a very good thing. The ingredients are quality, and I absolutely love how great I feel afterwards. There's no sluggish feeling in the bottom of your stomach because the ingredients are all so fresh and healthy. But over the years, things have definitely changed at Hannah's Bretzel. The salt & pepper potato chips now come in an official, sealed bag instead of the paper sleeves. Thankfully, they're still just as good! And the ingredients are used a little more sparingly on the sandwiches, which makes me sad. But perhaps the biggest change is with the gluten free bread -- Hannah's Bretzel JUST switched to using a new gluten free pretzel bread from Wheat's End. Recently, I ordered for pick-up, got home and saw the bread, and majorly freaked out, thinking I'd accidentally been given the regular sandwich bread. I called the location (like, four times) to ask if they'd switched things up but they didn't answer. Not wanting to have an allergic reaction, I drove the 20 minutes back to ask. A manager saw I'd returned with the sandwich and explained that yep, they started using a new gluten free bread just over a month ago! And that's awesome -- I just wish someone had told me! Now, the gluten free bread now has two slices on the top; the regular pretzel bread has three. It's pretty amazing how it actually tastes and smells just like real pretzel bread. And gone are the days of partially frozen sandwiches because this new version is baked fresh daily! Yes, it's still pretty pricey -- Hannah's Bretzel's sandwiches are like $10 each. But those sandwiches are made with quality ingredients by knowledgeable staff, and that's absolutely worth the price to me.

Nice spot near the Mart. They were baking their pretzel bread when we arrived, smelled so good. Had the steak melt sandwich, very tasty (prob would have given them five stars but I wish my steak was cooked a small bit more than it was). Also had a fresh fruit salad and homemade hibiscus iced tea. They have a huge selection of exotic chocolate bars for dessert. Lastly, the owner came by to say hello. Very friendly...I wish his business much success! Always nice to have good people to support.

Used to love this place. After not ordering for a while, decided to give it a go today. Meat was tough and did not seem to be fresh at all. I hope this was just a one off because that was horrible.

When I first came to Hannah's, I scoffed at the prices. Then I tasted the food and I never worried about it again. This is literally my favorite sandwich place. The different builds they have are fantastic and the bretzel rolls are amazing. Their tomato bisque is literally my favorite from any restaurant I've ever had in my life. So because of all these reasons, the higher price is worth it, especially since so many of their ingredients are organic.

Went for lunch on a Friday. It was a good, fairly inexpensive meal. I ordered the combo with the vegetable bomb wecken sandwich and Ella's salad. The sandwich was pretty small but a good size for me. I was impressed with the size of the salad. The meal felt fresh and refreshing, it was just enough food. I had to wait in line for 10 minutes but once I ordered the food was prepared quickly. They have a good amount of outdoor seating at this location.

The food here is delicious but today I ordered it on Uber eats for the first time but none of the special instructions were followed I asked for croutons on side and they were In the soup.. now they are soggy and gross, My sandwich didn't have the avocado I paid extra for. Very frustrating and disappointing I won't be ordering here from Uber eats again.

I will never order from this place ever again for my company's group lunch meetings, or for myself. They delivered almost an hour later from the window time they said my food would be delivered. They never apologized or followed up with my late order. Terrible customer service!

I mean....WOW....where do we start. Wonderful menu, whatever mood you're in, they gotchu. I went with the Sergio's Special...flavor was wildin' and the pretzel bun was nice and crispy even after getting back to eat. Staff....GREAT! Placed a pickup order in the middle of lunch, showed up way too early and they whipped it up for me in 2 minutes. Couldn't eat outside but nice outdoor seating. Go sit out there, read a book...have a business meeting...take ya hinge date there...whatever works. Anyways, highly recommend it. If you're like ooo JJs or hannah's....that shouldn't be a debate.

So about 40 min's ago we paid $21 for 2 turkey sandwiches & 2 small bags of chips. There was only 3 thin slices of turkey on each sandwich and a crazy, yucky amount of orange sauce on each one to the point of being inedible.The guy doing it didn't even give me a chance to tell him to go easy on it, he just hulked that bottle 4 times on each sandwich. He also could have cared less he didn't even cover the whole sandwich with turkey (3 thin slices doesn't cover much), he looked at it and literally gave a shrug & an internal "meh". 2 sandwiches barely eaten & tossed into the garbage. We normally like Hannah's but it's going to be a looooonnnggg time before we go back. I don't like to waste $$ or food, & this visit made us do both & feel ripped off on top of it.

Place is perfect for lunch! Love the outdoor seating and wide open area inside. Food is delicious. I never thought tomato bisque could have been so creamy and perfect with my mango something sandwich. Food is made fast. Service is good. Love all the little add-ons along the line as you make your way to the register. Looking forward to trying more of the menu here!

Took a break from Hannah's Bretzel because I wasn't the biggest fan at the time, now after some time away I have to say they serve some pretty tasty food. I tried the Italian Bresaola with avocado and white truffled goat cheese - it also has baby argula, shaved fennel, and dijon mustard vinaigrette. The beef is shaved super thin and almost resembles prosciutto. I also ordered a small black bean, corn, and avocado salad. The sandwich along with the salad were superb, add in the pleasant outdoor seating area and I'd grade my lunch an A+.

I hate coming in here only to have to wait wait wait wait not for customers in front of me but for the staff who are making food for customers who are not there in person. Good for them that people are ordering online or whatever, but please prioritize the people standing right in front of you, HB. I purposefully go early to avoid the rush but end up waiting forever because they are making a dozen sandwiches instead of taking my order. And the guy at the register also makes you wait while he sorts the catering paperwork. I love the food but dread this place. Would rather go somewhere else for something not as good but be served right away.

I very much enjoyed my lunch at Hannah's Bretzel today! Popped in with some co-workers for a new lunch experience near the office. As a first timer, I was a bit confused as to where the line started for placing our order (seemed a bit backwards to me). The menu was pretty straight forward though, so that at least made ordering easy! Danny W suggested the portabella + goat cheese sandwich. All I had to hear was goat cheese and I'm in! It was a brisk walk over to Hannah's so I also got a small cup of tomato bisque soup to warm up. Both were absolutely delicious. The sandwich I got includes roasted portabella mushrooms, white truffled goat cheese, roasted red peppers, organic baby arugula and rosemary-infused asparagus on an organic whole grain baguette. Oh you fancy, huh? That's right. They don't call themselves uber sandwich makers for nothin! With a sandwich order you get the choice of either a bag of chips or almonds. I stayed on the healthy train and went with the almonds, which came in a super cute little individual cup with a lid. Next time I'll try the chips - they looked homemade. The tomato basil bisque was a nice touch. I highly suggest it. This snazzy cup of delicious warmth includes san marzano tomatoes, tomato puree, fresh basil leaves, basmati rice, organic carrots, celery, fresh peeled garlic, organic onions, cream, non-GMO olive oil and housemade organic croutons. That's a serious cup of soup! I'll definitely be back to Hannah's Bretzel again. Next time I plan to try the pretzel bread... feels right.
