I found a reportedly quality reissue of Etta James's At Last - mono version by "Jackpot Records" in stock at this vinyl outlet; once confirmed that it wasn't a generic photo stock online, I snapped it up. Dispatch was quick and it arrived undamaged, even if the cardboard enclosure looked like it'd been in the ring with Tyson for a couple of rounds. I was only able to listen to it today, and wasn't sure if it'd arrived unscathed or not, hence the review being a little late. Stoked to have this album, it sounds amazing, just fantastic. Thanks a bunch Greville Records!

Google
Killer selection and staff are always so helpful. Been going here for years definitely my favourite record store. I know that the quality of the second hand records will always be great. Love a chat about all sorts of music as well, alway asking what they are listening to. Definitely check them out.

Had a very enjoyable visit this week. Very impressed with the range available. Made a couple of purchases and eyed off some new treats for my next visit.

Great independent store, goes broad and deep with genre. If they don't have it in stock they will do what they can to source. Love it.

The heartbeat of Prahran. Greville records is one of my faves. Massive range, heaps of nuggets you wont find elsewhere and the staff are ace. Love this place and only one of a handful of record stores deserved of your attention South of the Yarra.

Edit: NEVER SHOP HERE - Probably the worst customer experience I’ve ever had, went back to return the my unplayable album and the owner and staff where quite hostile, they accused me saying “you wreaked it and you know you wreaked it” I offered to show them a video of me playing it showing it’s damage, they said again today “it looks fine” but declined to play it or watch my video of me playing it for them, I feel my review below was both fair and non aggressive. everyone has a right an opinion and my opinion was that I was sold two faulty records. I feel very disheartened because I thought a record store would have people truely passionate about preserving this media and making it enjoyable for new people and maybe that’s how they feel, but if having a bad shopping experience where my product was faulty then becomes “never come here again and we’ve told other places about you aswell”. Very disappointing and a strange encounter tbh I wish them the best but it seems they wish me the worst. I’ll happily shop elsewhere as there are a lot of small record businesses that I’m sure are more deserving of a returning customer Original: Purchased a record fresh unopened was scratched as hell not their fault, BUT went back today to get something else person in the store opened it and had a sus they said it looked good, I felt someone who works at a record store would have an eye for this but apparently not , was a 2 record album and every side had scratches on it. Only annoyed because they checked it out and I believed em, gotta go all the way back to exchange it for a second time and look for myself, I’d include pics put you can see on a camera but with ur eye u can totally see they all poor condition, very very annoying but what can I do, maybe some of the employees need a refresher on how to check a record. Not tryna be mean but yeah going all the way back for the 3rd time just ain’t fun, hopefully next time I’ll get a good one but I won’t be buying anything from them again.

Great staff, had a great time looking around the store. Found a Sinead O Connor record I’ve been looking for, for a while. Always great stuff

Google
Steve the owner is extremely knowledgeable and has an enourmous collection of music on vinyl and other formats. Chances are if you're looking for it then Greville Records have it or they can get their hands on it if it is in production. A great warm atmosphere in the store with plenty of opportunity to browse and select to your hearts content.

Yelp
Fabulous record store, lovely staff. Take time to browse and chat to Woz and the gang.

Yelp
Greville St Records has this amazing feeling of "A day in the life...of music". There are countless photos and posters on the wall of the most influential artists in the world of music. So much history in this store where one conversation with old rocker, Steve, you'll understand why it's so genuine. He has some fantastic stories of some of his wonder years where browsing the many genres and classic albums is a pleasure. It's such a good record store but it is expensive. You have to be prepared to pay over $80 for a good record and it's hard because you want to keep the place alive but I'm yet to delve that deep into my wallet. It's sad really because there are countless records that they have which many other stores don't. It's a battle with your head on whether or not it's worth it. I'm battling that thought once again...

Yelp
With vinyl on the comeback, record shops like this are regaining their relevancy. This is a shop that never gave up on vinyl during the down times, and as a result it knows what it's doing. There is a good selection of new stuff, but the real joy is found in the second hand stuff. This is all done properly, with descriptions of the pressing (if necessary) as well as grading details for the records and the sleeves. In terms of pricing, it's not that bad; new releases are around $30-$40 on LP depending on whether its a single or a double, and CD's are around $20. The second hand stuff that's good quality is probably in line with Discogs prices, and there is a bunch of discount stuff if you fancy a rummage. If you're only running on CD's you're not ignored. Special mention to the owner, who helped me out with packaging to make sure that my purchases got back to Scotland intact, and who regaled me with stories of Primal Scream visiting the shop. He was really friendly, and I'm sure that regular visitors would definitely benefit from his insight. Very much a record shop of the old-school, Greville Records is all the better for it. Highly recommended.

Yelp
4.5 stars. Totally my favourite record store in Melbourne, and one of the oldest! I constantly get pushed to try others all over town: throughout Prahran and Fitzroy etc, and whilst good, I always end up coming here and finding dozens of things that I want. I love the huge collections they have of everything from the latest pop to obscure ass pressings of off-the-radar artists from all walks. I love the old timer, friendly and super knowledgeable folks that work there, who are just music fan lifers and are omnivores who listen to everything, and have seen it all themselves, rather than some hipster kid with Pitchfork musical blinders on. I can come here, buy Throbbing Gristle, the Carpenters, Clockcleaner, Miley Cyrus, Black Sabbath, Ariel Pink rarities, Kendrick Lamar, and Recondite, all in one purchase. They have everything, or can get it. If I wanted to make that kind of purchase/have that type of discussion with the store folk anywhere else, I'd have to visit half a dozen record stores. I could spend hours in here, and I do. This place embodies what I love about record stores. A place to hang out, discuss music and upcoming gigs, and they have enough stock to spend hours digging to find obscurities, but also all the re-pressings so you can easily find new stuff. Love Greville records. :)

Yelp
Greville Street Records operate on the mixed new and used formula of record store and is a bit of an institution in Melbourne. It sits proud on the Greville Street strip, surrounded by the retail and cafes of a suburb shot to hell by consumerism. The store is ramshackle and absolutely jammed to the ceiling with vinyl, tees, posters and collectibles. The owner's a chatty bloke and is very happy to give you his opinion on almost anything, but his passion for music, and in particular independent music, borders on stirring. The stock here is largely rock based, they have a load of great re-release stuff and heaps of good kosmische (formerly Krautrock) material. Some of the used stuff is a little over priced, but you gotta take a bit of that on the chin given his location and what he's dealing in. This shop is just another little cog on the independent music wheel here in Melbourne, and there are few independent stores in this largely gentrified and 'boutique-y' neighbourhood. I've got hug amount of admiration for this bloke sticking to his guns and travelling the spaceways. I'll keep rockin' the t-shirt.

Yelp
One of the least pretentious record stores in Melbourne, in one of the city's more pretentious areas. The record prices in here are as about as competitive as you're going to get in Australia. The two things that sets this apart from some of the others is the dude behind the counter who tells you stories about the time he spent in Spain smoking pot with the locals and singing Cramps songs to communicate because they couldn't speak English AND the gems that are hidden in the used collection.

Yelp
pretty good one of the last of it's kind in Melbourne; which is a little saddening. It's essentially the same as it was back ten years ago, and that's a good thing it need no change. The owner gave advice on unknown bands, and a little history. There are always collectables here or hard to find stuff, music that you usually wouldn't usually find elsewhere. Lots of rock and roll based stock, but lots of the well established classics too. Great place to go crate digging or unearth some musical surprises. worth of a look in any instance.
