"This beloved neighborhood grocer attracts locals for excellent provisions, great coffee and a snack during the day, and wine and craft beers at night. We love its light and airy design (it's helmed by two Domino magazine vets), and its wide span (there's a wine shop, a provisions store, an ice cream parlor, and the café, Annex. All are arranged along Fulton Street."

Google
Walked in here because it was the closest wine shop on the way home. I walked out with two great bottles after a very fun and intriguing wine tasting. I’ll be coming back !

Google
Such a warm and friendly neighborhood shop! The staff is so cool and helpful. The store has a great energy. Fun selection of wines and spirits, too.

Google
A lovely, cozy neighborhood wine store. This is our go-to for any wines. We love their cheap section (<$10-15/bottle) for a week day night glass, and their more expensive ones for a nicer occasion. They describe their wines in great detail with small cards. Would highly recommend!

Went in to pick up a pink bubbly and got the best recommendations from gentlemen working there . Indocilis 2020 Emilia Rosato Vino Frizzante ! Excellent choice and amazing service! Grazie Mille …Merci Beaucoup! Maddy n Ray ,From Montréal!

Google
The wine selection is interesting. Can’t remember what I purchased my last visit. But on this visit I was not greeted. I was not asked what I was looking for. I thought there was only one cashier leaning and studying her computer screen. Oh, there were two. It’s 2023. Y’all should know better by now treating a Black customer that way.

Google
I'm surprised by the mention of so-so prices. It has good bottles as low as $8, rare for a nice boutique shop like this, and useful house-written descriptions for almost every bottle they sell. Plus, a great staff and generous rewards program if you go too often like me. Great small store.

Google
flat out the best wine store in nyc. I am a wine and spirit connoisseur, and last Sunday I stopped into this shop. I found the staff very kind and helpful. The selection was outstanding as well, obviously a sommelier is hands on here. Lovely store, ties the neighborhood together.

Google
older woman at the register was very rude, we don't know much about wine and was asking questions if they had a particular wine we liked and she kept answering in blunt, one word answers. when we asked where the brand was in the store, she asked another associate to show us and made a snarky comment about how it was "clearly labeled" woman with the red hair and younger man were very nice though!

Randy S.

Yelp
The customer service used to be STELLAR. I stopped purchasing from them a couple years ago because of the CURRENT TERRIBLE service.

Enrique V.

Yelp
Decent selection and prices are on par with other places in the area. Staff could care a bit more about customer service. They constantly look annoyed to answer questions or even bother to say hello. Kind of ruins the experience. I'd recommend Thirst Wine Merchants down the street.

Kenny C.

Yelp
Great little wine shop. They also sell liquor, but go here for the wine. A friend went here for a free tasting and came away with their Pecorino white, which was really good. I stopped in a few days later just to take a look around. A lot of great selection - plus a $11 and under shelf! Staff was super friendly. Will be back next time I'm in the hood!

Yelp
I've been a big fan of GG since we moved to the neighborhood around 5 years ago. They have always had a good selection of interesting, tasty wines whether I'm looking for a few inexpensive bottles to stock my cabinet with or if I'm looking for something for a special occasion/gift. The staff is always friendly enough, helpful when you need it but not intrusive. Recently though, one member of the staff has been consistently rude. Worse yet, he appears to be a manager or something. Bald guy with glasses who stands apprehensively behind the counter with his arms crossed, his expression a perpetual grimace. You've probably noticed him staring at you disapprovingly for no apparent reason. For whatever reason, this guy always glares at my wife as if she's filling up her purse with expensive bottles of wine when she thinks nobody is watching. He follows her around the store, and even followed her into Greene Grape Provisions after she was done shopping for wine a few weeks back. Totally inappropriate behavior. We have had a few instances where we bought a bottle of moderately priced wine (~$30 or so) that was corked and spoiled. Each time we have gone in to return or exchange, he hassles us about it. We have been shopping here for years and have spent thousands of dollars supporting this place, so I really don't appreciate being treated like I'm trying to rip you off just because you sold me a bad product. This guy has only been haunting this place for a few months but I'm already becoming hesitant to shop here because I don't want to deal with his attitude. If you're bitter that you're working in retail at your age, find another job. Don't take it out on the customers.

Yelp
I came here by accident. I wish all my accidents were that pleasant. In search of a special bottle of Bourbon, a friend of mine told me his on-line search identified a bottle at The Greene Grape. So I googled it, and discovered I would be in the area the next day visiting a school in Brooklyn (we go there each year to read to the kids and talk to them about college). So afterwards we swung by The Greene Grape to get my special bottle only to find out they didn't have it. The staff there quickly realized the issue - turns out that Downtown Cellars used to also be called the Greene Grape Downtown, so in some databases it still showed up as such. Oops, but a good oops. This small store has a nice selection of wine and spirits. It's not a huge selection, but a nice selection of quality products. They didn't have the bottle I was looking for (a fairly rare bottle of Hirsch), but they have Noah's Mill, Rowen Creek, Old Pogue, and a few other less common and very good bourbons. They also carry Hendricks Gin and Anchor's Junipero Small Batch Gin (my 2 favorite gins), Auchentoshan scotch, and Hanger 1 vodka. So they are tops in my book. Same story on the wine. For example they only had 3 Rose wines and about 7 sparkling wines when we were there. But all of them were good quality and at a good price. We ended up getting a bottle of wine. Service was very good - friendly and knowledgeable staff. And because of my mistake, I discovered the Fort Greene area and spent two hours wandering the streets of this great neighborhood.

Alex S.

Yelp
Nice selection of wine but hit or miss with the staff. I agree with other reviewers that the staff can be aloof at times. Was in there recently and I noted an error in how they labeled their Zinfadels ( the year on the tag was different from what was on the bottles). I politely asked about it and was rudely rebuffed by the staff. Plus she was condescending. So I left and went to Thirst Wines instead. They were great and I ended up spending twice as much as planned!

Charles V.

Yelp
I agree with Peter, who's the bald guy with glasses who stands apprehensively behind the counter with his arms crossed, his expression a perpetual grimace? I've interacted with him a dozen times at least, and he pretends each time I come into the store, that he doesn't know me, and equally that he disapproves of me for some reason. He is the coldest person I have dealt with anywhere in Fort Greene/Clinton Hill. There's a nice wine store up on Myrtle Ave. and Washington Avenue, very pleasant staff, very inexpensive, and another one across the street and down a block, which I tend to go to now more.

G K.

Yelp
Best wine and spirits shop ever! Michelle, the sommelier who works there, is incredibly knowledgeable, helpful and friendly. I went home with a Chateau Le Peyre (a Bordeaux which is a French wine blend of Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot) and a Chateau de Suronde (also French but a dessert wine with honeysuckle notes- forgot the rest because she had me at honeysuckle and said it's probably her favorite dessert wine right now :) Yay, I'm so excited and I'll be back here again and again-- they have an amazingly curated selection (including an excellent selection of more affordable/decently prices wines to take to dinners), and it's all laid out so well!

Deirdre L.

Yelp
What a terrific grocery store! The lighting is nice, they have great produce and they have an assortment of fine foods that you can purchase. Really great people that work here. Would love to shop here again!

Jake D.

Yelp
I didn't know I could love a wine store.... and then I met The Greene Grape. - Nice people, - Manageable selection, - Perfect little blurbs about the wines so I don't have to know anything to pick a bottle, - Cheap section right in front* Best wine store in the tri-state area. _____ *This is big a time saver because I don't have to pretend to look at the expensive bottles as if I might pick a $40 bottle of wine to pair with my $10 Thai food delivery.

Leonard P.

Yelp
A very very helpful store and a welcome surprise in an overpriced, elitist neighborhood. I went here to select a wine as part of a secret santa gift and expected to be swamped by over priced wines. What I found was a store full of moderately priced, high quality wines and staff members who was helpful and knowledgable about their stock. The service was excellent and unrushed, the staff was glad to help answer the several questions this wine novice had, and the atmosphere was quite welcoming. A rare gem in Ft. Greene. I will definitely come here for my wine in the future!

Allana D.

Yelp
Great wine shop! Good selection and all the wine I've had here has been really good. Free delivery for purchases over 25 dollars if you're in their "pink zone"-aka close enough to the store! Staff is friendly and pleasant. Only reason they don't get 5 stars is because I'm a spoiled brat when it comes to wine shops after living next to Off the Vine in Astoria!

Natalie P.

Yelp
This place is one of my favorites to come and study and read. As of lately the music has been oddly loud! I may have to switch meeting places because of the loud music. It's a dope space because there are two communal tables with outlets and plenty of tables/seating to hold a meeting or study groups etc. They also have a full bar which is pretty dope! Perhaps they are trying to transition from the neighborhood coffee spot where you can also grab a drink/read...to a bar where you can also grab coffee. See the difference? Idk. I'll still come here but not to be super productive

Michelle W.

Yelp
There's no place like the Greene Grape. If ever there were a reason to sing like Dorothy from The Wiz when she found her way home, it would be that you eased on down to this fairy-godmother wine shop on the day that your reward points expired. My face was a ruby glow when I picked my magically free bottle of wine. The discount is straight from Oz (after the evil spell was lifted of course). Well I suppose you pay enough before you get that dreamy discount, but it's the best deal I've ever had at a local wine shop. And of course, for making it there in time, I treated myself to a tall bottle of wicked blanco tequila from their growing spirit section, and gulped a half glass of their daily tasting pick. If I wasn't in the courageous and summery mood for homemade margaritas, I would've chosen an organic box of sauvignon blanc or one of the perfectly-priced under $10 bottles. Actually following the yellow brick road in being diligent about appreciating wine, made it possible to save money while getting tipsy.

Yelp
Time was, your wine options in Fort Greene and/or Clinton Hill were a motley assortment of ghettofabulous "lickah stoh" type establishments which carry only boring stuff like Goats du Roam and Yellowtail, or Greene Grape. Greene Grape hands down, every time. Then a few other wine shops started opening up. First there was Thirst Wine Merchants, on Dekalb. Now there's Gnarly Vines, on Myrtle. Both of which are closer to my place and/or more convenient to the subway (for last minute dinner party pickups or stopping in on the way home). But a loyal customer I shall remain. Greene Grape didn't even have to step up its game when those other guys came to the Hill -- it just kept on being the best wine store around. The most important distinction is organization. Greene Grape is perfectly set up for browsing. Wines are separated and clearly demarcated by broad region, and then broken down quite organically within that section (reds, whites, different sub-regions or major varietals). If I'm thinking of an Alsatian white, I know exactly where in the store to go. Secondly, they just plain old have a really awesome selection of very unique wines that are difficult to find elsewhere, which makes for great shopping for a party or a gift. Very easy to impress with most of these wines. A large number of their wines are organically grown, environmentally and/or culturally sustainable, and at the very least are from small family owned vineyards. And yet still very good -- I don't think I've ever been disappointed with anything there. The prices are also great - especially like the small bargain rack near the door with wines under $10. Because sometimes you just want to grab a couple bottles of a basic, drinkable Cotes du Rhone and call it a night. And they get that. Their tastings are very laid back, and incredibly well curated. I've discovered some very surprising wines this way.

Kimberley M.

Yelp
The service at this place is horrible. I just moved to Fort Greene and needed to find my new favorite wine store. Seeing as how this one is the closest to my house I was practically waiting to give them the title. I've purchased from here three times and every time I leave saying "I will never go back there"... this time I mean it. I get the same guy to ring me up, and each time he does, I don't know if he wants to kill me or himself, either way he is RUDE!! No thanks to The Green Grape, I will be buying my wine somewhere else.

Joye P.

Yelp
I visited on 9/12/09, and the very good looking staff there were friendly and helpful. All wines offered here are produced organically, and there were quite a few in the $15 range. I liked it.

Steve A. R.

Yelp
Great little wine shop in Fort Greene that's been around for at least a couple of years. Owners are super friendly and they're made some great suggestions on cabs & shirazs that I still go back to. The selection is quite good in that they go for artisanal wines and spirits, many of which you would have difficulty finding in other stores. Found this piece about them in NY Magazine about how they started their business with a nice quote: http://nymag.com/guides/changeyourlife/16046/index1.html "Amy and Jason offer bonuses and a form of health insurance to part-timers, so a $10-an-hour employee quickly costs $15 an hour. "Nothing tests your political beliefs," half-jokes Amy, "like being a small-business owner."

Marissa C.

Yelp
The best! Best quality food ever. Their wine shop is also amazing. $15 bottles of wine that taste like $40 bottles. Their delivery service is also great. I have used it prior to the COVID-19 outbreak, but they have really stepped it up to serve the community even more during this time. Best company ever.

Paul K.

Yelp
Review: Unpretentious little wine store, sane prices, friendly staff The Good: Great selection of affordable wines; some nice sakes; but the best is their selection of small batch bourbons; join the GC club, spend $250, and get a $20 reward card Wine: Lavradores de Feitoria Tinto ($12 bottle!) Sake, with particularly lame names: Tozai Voices in the Mist (milky) Tozai Living Jewel (fruity) Spirits: Four Roses Bourbon (classic) Tuthilltown (corny-smoky; feels like getting punched in the mouth in a good way) The Bad: I think my productivity at work has gone down since I became a club member

jacky t.

Yelp
Considering the intimate size of the space, they carry a decent selection of products. One of the cheese ladies isn't pleasant to deal with and gets defensive and condescending if you ask about a cheese she doesn't know that well. But they sell It's It ice cream sandwiches, which makes me a happy customer.

Salad J.

Yelp
Love the Greene Grape. I've had nothing but good experiences when I've gone into the shop, but today they really made my day! After a very long and stressful day, i really wanted a little vino, but couldn't go out to get any. I called to see if they'd deliver to my house - it was a block and a half outside their range, but they said they'd do it anyways. Yay! The man I spoke with on the phone chose two excellent, inexpensive wines based on what I said I liked. Double yay! it was delivered very quickly by a friendly guy, despite the fact that they were having some sort of event at the store. Definitely an asset to the neighborhood.

Meredith T.

Yelp
As a long(ish)time FG resident, I was initially skeptical of the Greene Grape....but they have won me over with: - Weekly tastings that are neither pushy nor pretentious - Staff with a genuine enthusiasm for what they are selling - An interesting assortment of wines at a variety of prices - A revolving but solid selection of sparkling wines/champagnes - The addition of slivovitz to the booze shelf If you are in the neighborhood, this is the spot.

Janson L.

Yelp
Good selection (especially of cheap wines [ps. I'm a cheapskate]), and very nice and unpretentious service. A nice example of how to do it right...

Jeff F.

Yelp
If the Food Network constructed a pop up general store in FG, this would be it. Has a slight whiff of PS Union Market to it in terms of offerings, space and pricing, which is a good thing. My highlights include: Baked brownies/cupcakes, Stumptown coffee, Pimento cheese (sold out after a recent TONY blurb!), Roberta's baked breads, Jeni's Ice Cream, It's It ice cream sammys (SF treat), superb cheese selection, knowledgable butcher on site and fresh fish. Hip staff but not so hip it hurts, ask away

Josie C.

Yelp
I love this wine store! They really care about thier customers and will keep track of what you buy so if you love that Rose you bought that one time a few months back they can tell you exactly what it was and get you some more! They deliver and will send you emails inviting you to free in-store tastings and events! They also have a lot of really tasty wines under $12!! Love them!

Fazeela S.

Yelp
This was my local spot when I lived in Ft. Greene and Clinton Hill. They deliver, have free tastings each day and have a great variety of wines in all different price ranges. I learned to love Sancerre due to the bottle they carry there. Their $10-15 rack has great whites (would not recommend the reds on that rack). I tend to really enjoy their reds that are located to the left of the store (if you are looking at the cashier). I also REALLY appreciate their loyalty program. After you spend a specific amt they send you a $20 gift card to use towards anything. The staff is nice and helpful.

Lotti S.

Yelp
SOUR GRAPES As a 16 year Fort Greene resident, I've always been slightly indifferent to this store as I watched them take over this stretch of the neighborhood with stores that provide over-priced, mediocre products with less than mediocre service. Having said that, I've still patronized them here and there as I believe in supporting small business as much as possible. I am writing this review because I just learned that the owner of Green Grape is trying to block the relocation (and reopening) of another neighborhood wine store, Thirst Wine Merchants, and this is not the first time. As a small business owner who is friendly with all of my competition, I find this to simply be a bad business practice that undermines the idea of community and healthy competition. In the current NYC real estate market, businesses forced to relocate when losing a lease have very few choices and must take what they can get. Blocking the move of an already established business within its existing community speaks of nothing but greed.

Brianne S.

Yelp
BEAUTIFUL little wine shop in Fort Greene! Close to the subways, so super easy to grab and go off to a friend's house for dinner. Really great prices and super smart staff. Their prices beat some of local wine shops by a mile. Highly recommended to anyone in the area. Worth the extra walk if it comes to it.

Emilyna C.

Yelp
Mostly I come here if I need an ingredient that I can't find at my shitty local grocery store (Associ-wah?) such as fresh fruits & vegetables, nice cheeses or fresh bread. And I always love a hot cup of joe as I am checking out. This past visit made me like it here even more. So I had a little dinner party last week (actually my 1st nyc dinner party!) and I wanted some of that nice cheese. I get to the counter and panic. I have NO idea where to start, what I want, etc. So I tell the girl straight up I kinda need guidance. I picked one cheese that looked really interesting to me and we rounded the bunch off that way. It was actually really fun. She tasted cheeses with me and we dicussed which ones went best together. Sometimes you just don't know what you want and it's always nice to meet someone who is willing to help you and make the experience fun instead of getting annoyed. Also sweet was the fact that they were playing a song by The XX and me and the guy stocking the fruit were both humming along in synch, Ha.

Julia K.

Yelp
I love Greene Grape. Having lived in Virginia & DC all my life, the concept of having to go to a separate wine store is foreign to me.It sucks--I hate not being able to just buy wine at the grocery store (or Target). But GG makes it suck a little less. It has a great selection, and an under $10 section at the front of the store (let's be honest, that's what I most frequent) where you can get a great bottle for as little as $6.50. Is it the Trader Joe's wine store (ie., will you find a bottle for $4)? No. But they're a fantastic option when you don't plan on leaving the neighborhood.

Stacy H.

Yelp
My favorite wine store in all of NYC. Small, but the selection is stellar, prices are the best I've seen in the city and staff is extremely friendly and knowledgable. I can be a bit picky when it comes to wine, but have never had a bottle from here that I didn't enjoy. How often can you say that about a liquor/wine store? Bonus: they have free delivery and a rewards program for frequent customers.

Ryan J.

Yelp
Greene Grape is just small enough not to get lost; they only carry wines (and a small selection of liquors) that they know and like. I like that in a wine store. The counterfolk usually know what they are talking about and can recommend a decent bottle based on what you're looking for. Also, they are one of the few purveyors in Brooklyn to carry a decent bottle of absinthe. Bonus points, right there.

Claire J.

Yelp
I went back to the Greene Grape and had a much more positive experience. The man at the counter was friendly and asked if I needed any help finding anything... The store is clean and well put together. It's in a great location, right across the street from their sister store, Provisions, which I adore. When I'm on this street and need some wine, I'll definitely stop in again!

K M.

Yelp
Super friendly, great options at various price points. One time I went in to find a whiskey tasting, and it was great! Lovely little spot.

nara f.

Yelp
soooo thiiiirstyyyy... soooo clooooose. must imbibe. must spend two hundred dollars to get twenty-five dollar gift certificate...

Toy L.

Yelp
Very cute little corner store that offers everything from beer and wine, to fresh fish and other health food needs. I stopped in on a Wednesday night around 8:30 p.m. after working out at the gym, and was still able to get a fresh catfish fillet. Bonus points for the helpful and courteous staff. I will definitely be stopping in on my way from the gym more often.

E L.

Yelp
I really like The Greene Grape for several reasons. One is that you can get a good bottle of wine for under $10, which matters a lot to me. Another is that you can get a very good expensive wine, which I recently needed as a gift. I love their mission statement on their website, which shows their respect for their employees as well as their customers. It's cool that they have weekly tastings and also cool that they send around emails about good deals. They seem to legitimately value wine and customer service equally. Finally, the Greene Grape Rewards program is awesome. It's a big reason why I shop there instead of Gnarly Vines, which is actually quite a bit closer to my house, and is also a very good wine store. I have only one (teeny, tiny) gripe: I wish they were open later! Other than that, I love it wholeheartedly.

L R.

Yelp
I usually have a good experience here but I was there last Thursday, 2/13/14 at 9:57 pm and the older male clerk rudely says... "You know we close in three minutes". I almost said, "No, you close when I leave". I can understand someone wanting to get home but at least say something a little more tactful and maybe offer assistance. I used to support this place but not that they've begun to take over more storefronts with overpriced artisanal whatever I'm done. There are other options in the hood. Thirst, Heritage, Gnarly Vines.

Guillermo M.

Yelp
Last Friday I have stepped into the Greene Grape Wine Store for the first time ever looking into a selection of white wines in which I personally found to be both very inexpensive and familiar through personal gatherings. I really enjoyed selections such as the Monchof Estate Riesling and others from the Le Bourcier Chardonnay, to Spanish selections such as Albarino Salneval and last but not least the Don David Torrontes. As I began to examine the American selections I have just happened to hear one of the gentlemen near that section from the corner of my ear happen to talk about race on the subject of Mexicans to another gentleman on the other end. Personally from what I have heard I was not amused based on a generalization of Mexicans being both short and brown-skinned, beginning to personally frown at this type of behavior and realizing that the other individual nearest the spirits got offended with his attitude. At that point I examined the champagne selection momentarily and walked out without purchasing anything. With all due respect I like the selections but overall if people were to hear his comments, especially those like myself of Mexican descent, then it would be mutual even on the owners watch to agree he or she either openly spoke their opinion aggressively or simply left as I have. I am not happy with this and in doing so will look into other places whose service is up to par without biased interference floating around from race to ethnicity, especially when individuals despite color, religion or class one day realize they are inconvenienced through the political incorrectness of someone ignorant. Perhaps if he bought a fitted baseball cap loose enough then progress would be made to assure that air allowed his blood vessels to have him thinking properly. Last Friday was the first and rest assured the last time I will ever step foot into this wine store, as I found that Thirst and Uva Wines despite its distance has affordable wines with very good service. They have just lost a customer.

Rhonda W.

Yelp
I like the samples advertised and poured (self served) at the door. Great selection of wines, with friendly staff that can help you make decisions or answer questions. Nice having a wine selection in the neighborhood.

Ashley N.

Yelp
I love their cheese selection. Encased gold! It's nice that they have an ice cream window during the Summer. Their coffee is ok and their prices are a bit steep but it is, afterall, a wine store so don't expect to go in and find everything you need. The staff is generally nice.

Koku K.

Yelp
Fantastic little shop. I know very little about wines, and they walked me through finding a wine that suited my taste. The staff is so nice. It's also fun to stop by when they're doing a wine tasting. :)

Colleen K.

Yelp
I don't know much about wine, but I want to learn. When I stopped in here to grab a bottle for a dinner down the street, I was a little intimidated - it looked like it might be the kind of place where you would encounter wine snobbery. But, happily, I was wrong. The guy who helped me was really friendly and helpful and did not make me feel bad about asking if we could go over to the $15 and under section. (And, they have a $15 and under section!) They also have a fun email newsletter that you can subscribe to when they check you out.

J. N.

Yelp
You can find a few good things here, but have had many disappointing wines. I much prefer the selection at Olivino on Fulton.

A E.

Yelp
Ever since I moved to New York from the SF Bay Area I have craved the delicious ice cream sandwiches that are manufactured in my home town--ITS ITS! Since discovering that the Greene Grape sells Its Its, I just can't find any reason why I shouldn't stay in Brooklyn indefinitely :) Thank you Greene Grape!

L J.

Yelp
I have to completely disagree with the person who wrote the service is rude. I love the people in this store, to me they make up part of the essence of fort Greene. They are interesting, sincere and make picking out wine fun. It reminds me of the neighborhood record store back in the day. they even ran after me once 5 blocks after I left my credit card there. Plus on top of it all the wine selection is great no matter what price you are looking for.

Natalie B.

Yelp
I love this place, so like Dean & Deluca but right in the hood. The couple that own it are committed and risk-taking, largely responsible for the growth of good wine stores and food in our area. Brilliant!

Leigh H.

Yelp
A cute little wine & spirit shop. I usually like a little more selection and a little lower prices, but the staff were so friendly that it totally made up for it. The descriptions and recommendations made for each bottle were helpful and accurate. Also, the Pinot Noir we picked up ended up being quite delicious in addition to reasonably priced.
