Stunning experience on western vegetarian food! The atmosphere are truly relaxing, feels like in any others green bar in Australia. The food is bit expensive, but all are really worth to try. The signature deep fried chicken is actually something like mushroom, truly crispy and health. They said all those ingredients are veggie and local grown. Highly recommended.

The only reason I didn't starve to death, this restaurant was my only refuge in my time in Hong Kong. I ordered the Beyond Beef burger, which came with a kale salad; both were amazing. The only thing I didn't like was the chocolate cake which tasted like avocado and had random blueberries mixed in. I definitely recommend this place, 5 stars

Google
We randomly bumped into this place and was intrigued to go in when we saw all organic and that they serve breakfast. The ambiance inside was actually very perfect for brunch, with the music, and the restaurant layout. I ordered scrambled eggs that came with mushrooms and some real good toast - they originally got my order wrong and took time to redo my order but they were kind enough to compensate with a free praline. I loved that I was able to eat the toast as it was whole wheat and was crunchy but wasn't so hard to bite. It's worth a visit for the experience but aside from the fact that it's all organic, I was a bit underwhelmed in terms of flavor and uniqueness for the food but not sure if it's just because we ordered breakfast only.

Google
My first experience at a Vegan restaurant. I really tried to go in with an open mind and in all honestly the experience and the food was fine. Everything was moderately wholesome and moderately tasty. That's just it though, with some other ingredients the meal probably would have been excellent. Everything down to the cocktails was just slightly worse than their non-vegan counter part. Sorry Vegan community! Probably a good option for the conscientious eaters amongst us, but if you're just going for the experience I really wouldn't bother. The staff were lovely and it's a delightful setting.

Google
Food is delicious and very Creative. Typically, vegetarian food can be same old same old with pasta, risotto or Indian but Grassroots Pantry does make an effort. The ambience is great and staff of friendly. The only reason I didn't give a 5-star rating is the price which I think is quite high but as an experience, what the heck! Worth it. The only shame is its puddings. Not a big fan and quite pricey for not so sweet endings.

Google
At the moment in HK, you'd be hard pressed to find more nourishing, creative vegetarian (actually, mostly vegan) cuisine. If you're into wellness, you'll likely love it; if you're not, be prepared for a bit of an education. Great breakfast menu and beautiful space to have it in too. For drinkers - the increasing focus on natural and biodynamic wines is superb - same for organic spirits for cocktails. Service is well meaning and enthusiastic, and is a work in progress - have patience and you'll be duly rewarded.

Google
Absolutely divine and inventive menu. Lovely atmosphere and attentive staff. As a vegan, I was blown away by the creativity and choices, and found it incredibly hard to choose just a few dishes. Everything was excellent, but I particularly enjoyed the popcorn 'chicken' and the profiteroles. It was also great to find injeera on the menu in Hong Kong!

Google
The food here was fantastic, flavourful, well made, and created a meal that felt complete. It's a little out of my price range so I won't be able to eat here often, especially considering the small portion size, but I wish I could!

Yelp
The food here is YUMMMMM. We got the popcorn "chicken," mushroom linguine and xoi man. Firstly, the restaurant is super nice and spacious (RARE in Hong Kong). Most ingredients here are organic (major PLUS!!!) and the dishes are all healthy and vegan-friendly. So you can indulge knowing you're not doing your body dirty. The popcorn chicken was so good! You can tell they used coconut oil to fry it. It makes you feel way less guilty for eating fried food. The mushroom linguine was also so delicious. The sauce was flavorful and creamy. And the xoi man was amazing! So many strong flavors in one dish. And loads of veggies, crispy onions, and herbs. The service was great as well. And the restaurant is in a nice area. I really enjoyed the food here and would definitely recommend it!

Yelp
I was thrilled to hear about this place from a local contact in Hong Kong. It was a bit of a hike from Central station but worth the walk. We made a reservation for 6 pm and were told we would need to finish by 7:30. We arrived and were seated immediately. The interior was very quaint with a few tables on the main floor and some bar seating upstairs. There is one male and one female toilet (change table inside) with 2 sinks outside them. The dinner menu was amazing....so many choices and I was thrilled to find not too much tofu. We started with popcorn chicken, which was gf and made of mushrooms. Crispy outside, chewy inside and delicious! Then we had the dragon roll sushi made with cauliflower rice. It was very good as well. The pieces were quite huge so you could not eat it in one bite. Some people used a knife and fork and others chose to hold it in hand and take bites. Then we had the mushroom gnocchi which had me so excited. It tasted good when dipped in the white sauce, but I didn't really like the texture. I like gnocchi to be soft and kind of chewy but this was more grainy...I'm sure due to the ingredients. Still worth having. Service was quick and friendly and items came out quickly until we ordered dessert. Then I feel like we were forgotten. We ordered our dessert before the table beside us. But they were served and finished well before ours arrived (they had one same item). We ordered the profiteroles with vegan ice cream. We had to choose one of 3 flavours for all 3 profiteroles vs one flavour for each. We chose the cherry fudge which was very good. Other flavours were strawberry and green tea. The crust part was quite hard since it was gf, but yummy. The wait was a little annoying since we were told we had to be done by a certain time. This did not allow us to order more if we wanted. The price was $880HK for our meal,

Yelp
This just opened, or rather moved from its former location. It is located right next to the very popular Blue Butcher and a stones throw away up the little incline from the Man Mo Temple on Hollywood Road. A prior review stated that this establishment would make Buddha proud and I would agree. Raw, Vegan, Gluten Free, Buddhist Friendly and Nut Free...all menu items are listed and marked as such. We were walk-ins around 9:30PM on a Monday and I think it was busy because it had just opened. There was maybe 10 minute wait. Ambiance is nice....cement floors, inviting little bar, tall ceilings, mismatched chairs (although the chairs are shorter than the bench on the opposite side of the dining table, so you are not at eye level with your meal companion....just an observation), good lighting, white walls, light wood finishes....the place feels inviting. Staff was friendly, food was delivered quickly. My biggest observation and maybe the leading factor for my 4 Star rating were the flavors. Every item we ordered was super flavorful. Tempah, lemongrass, roti canai, white truffle oils, flax dukkah, the list could go on....every menu item is a study in world spices and flavors. It comes through in every dish. Vegan, prepared clean and flavorful. Although with a kick and what my husband liked the least, the Mushroom Tempah Rendang was my personal favorite, but let me also note that the linguine noodles were super fresh. I saw wine, but not sure of their liquor license status. Wine for sure, not sure on the other adult beverages. The staff indicated that they do serve breakfast and lunch too and I also saw a fresh cold pressed juices and smoothies menu as well. It is a bit pricey, but I think you get what you pay for. This is again vegan, prepared clean and flavorful...worth the price to me personally. If vegan is not your thing, you will most likely feel this place is expensive. For one appetizer and two entrees (no drinks, just water), it was $452HKD (10% service fee is automatically added to the bill as well). My husband states and let me quote, "This is a girl restaurant. The only reason a guy is here is because he was tricked by the girl into coming here. This is a place that a girl would come because it is super healthy and full of raw/vegan stuff. The few guys I see here are saying to themselves, I was tricked." I suppose this is why I liked it and he did not like it so much...and there were more woman here than men! HA! HA! HA!, so maybe he is right! So I will definatley go back, but it will probably be by myself or with a group of girlfriends or my one Vegan male friend.

Yelp
Had dinner with a friend on a weekday night. Service was mediocre; and food was lack luster. We had the kale salad and popcorn chicken- both of which disappointed. I do realize paying for a kale salad at the restaurant is pricey, but I am willing to pay for a good salad - this was so not worth it. It's a pity because I was really expecting good tasting, healthy food.

Yelp
I came here to catch up with an old friend. Was too focused on the conversation and didn't do as much observations as I normally would, so I will skip the decor and onto my food experience. We were served a varied complimentary "appetizers" - a bread basket consisting of whole grain bread and beetroot crackers(to die for, the flavor and texture so nutty!), almond butter, and an avocado shooter topped with a mix of spices and crunchy root veg. Definitely food good enough to tease your appetite and ask for more. For mains, we had the Beetroot Gnocchi and Signature Mixed Mushroom Linguine. The Gnocchi came in the full beetroot color, and the texture was so chewy and delicious. They were made in these bite sized chunks and I can imagine myself snacking on these all day. The Linguine was very flavorful, and creamy enough to not feel very heavy but still very satisfying. I thought the portions were not that big for mains, but in the end I didn't feel like I had to order dessert to top it off. Very friendly staff. Loved the spacious industrial/ minimalist style of the place. Will definitely be back.

Yelp
Grassroots looks like my dream space with its distressed gray diagonal-plank hardwood floors, its chic mismatched furniture, and lush oversized plants. Can I move in already, please? The culinary team also happens to make wonderfully clean yet flavorful and inventive food. Heavy vegetarian comfort food, you will not find here. But if chia, granola, coconut, avocado, kale, quinoa, and free-range eggs are all part of your regular lexicon, you're going to love it here. And even if they're not - you're really going to like it here. I recently came in for lunch with a friend and tried one of their set lunches, which included the pan-fried gyoza to start followed by the palak paneer. Reinterpreted with a light touch, both of these dishes tasted healthy but retained their lively flavor dispositions. I especially enjoyed the housemade Szechuan peppercorn vinaigrette which accompanied the gyoza - I wish to buy a jug of this and pour it on everything! We concluded our meal with coffee and Grassroots gets all the small details right: they heat up the cream and include a dainty yet delicious piece of biscotti. Ah, the perfect ending. Grassroots is almost always full so I recommend making a reservation! You can either email them at info@grassrootspantry.com or visit their website and book via the Quandoo reservation platform.

Yelp
Too cool for school! This place checks off everything on the hipster list: heaps of natural light, a mix of industrial and natural décor (walls are grey and covered with plants), cold pressed juices on the menu, and servers with a sense of style. So. Fucking. Instagrammable. All of it. I tried their lunch set and chose the vegan friendly gyoza, along with the organic sweet corn brown rice risotto. Loved them both, especially the risotto as it was served with these sunflower cheese crackers. I could eat those crackers all day, err day! I found the food very filling and it fueled me through an afternoon of 'hood hunting in Hong Kong. A good place to go to if you've got a nice chunk of change for a good lunch!

Yelp
For anyone that knows me, I take a long time to decide on a place to eat with friends (even after coming up with a dozen or so suggestions), so I let my old high school friend pick this time. I'm so glad she picked Grassroots Pantry, because who knew healthy vegetarian food could taste so GOOD? She made reservations for us at 7pm, and while a majority of tables were still vacant then, they soon quickly filled up later. Walking in to the restaurant is like a breath of fresh air - a definite escape from the hot humid HK environment. The overall space has a very clean, polished, simple and "grassroots"-y sort-of look, a unique place you wouldn't expect to find in HK. One look at the menu and we knew we wanted to try everything! Our server checked in on us several times to see if we were ready to order, but after asking for "a few more minutes", we gave up and just asked him for advice. He gave us a very thorough introduction to the Grassroots Pantry concept and walked us through the menu, highlighting the freshness of ingredients and how they turned popular (meat) dishes into vegetarian (and vegan) works of culinary art. Limited by our two stomachs, we settled on Unagi Eel Maki (HK$115) for a starter and the Beetroot Gnocchi ($158) for the main. To start things off, they brought us a light rice and seaweed-wrapped palate starter with wasabi mayo, and fresh whole grain bread with a light sesame/nut olive oil dip that just brought down the house. Before I continue, can I just say that their water is probably the most delicious water I've tasted in HK restaurants? They immerse lemon and cucumber slices with vanilla pods in their water containers - it's so good!!! The Unagi Eel Maki came next, and it was so beautifully and smartly presented. Instead of using real rice, they used cauliflower, finely diced to look like rice. How creative! The Beetroot Gnocchi surprised me the most - as I'm not the biggest fan of gnocchi - in a good way, that I would go back just taste it again. The tender roasted baby beets and crunchy walnuts complimented the chewy purple gnocchi. Like fireworks in my mouth! For two young Asian women, we were quite full at the end of the dinner. The gnocchi filled me up for sure. Overall, we had such a wonderful dining experience, my taste buds were jumping for joy throughout, and I cannot wait to return for another visit.

Yelp
It has impressed me no end that some of the best vegan restaurants around the world I've found in unexpected places like Jakarta and Cairo etc. As Hong Kong is such a food hub, I should have been surprised not at all to find this wonderful take not only Asian but global favorite dishes. Having just got off the plane, I opted for Asia -- though their "popcorn chicken " was perfectly rendered and likely not of any particular geographic. Light, well seasoned, wonderful texture. Their steamed dumplings go toe to toe with any I have had anywhere, and it also didn't surprise me when the fascinating waiter told me, "It reflects, truly, the best that we do." It is a stark but warm, cold, modern setting with an amazing collection of global hip hop playing -- but it is utterly inviting, fascinating and food delicious. A collection of "mock tails" and cocktails (I went for local beer) superb. I have always loved meat and miss it often, but I must say with more and more places like this I can see a world where meat consumption will drop 1/3 or more in the next decade. No pretension, no criticism of others -- simply because the food is that good, that evocative, and incredibly healthy.

Yelp
After a week of subpar service and bland food from casual to Michelin-starred restaurants, I'm so glad we finally found this place. The decor was beautiful, with many real houseplants. Service was fast and friendly and the servers were very knowledgeable about the food. The menu is beautiful and informative, with many inventive dishes accommodating different dietary needs. Everything sounded so good we ended up ordering too much food for two people, since it was our last night in Hong Kong and we wanted to try as much as possible. We had the jackfruit nachos, popcorn "chicken", caraway pâté tarte, teff gnocchi, and tomato mac & cheese. Everything was delicious! I was expecting the gnocchi to taste a little sour since it was made with teff flour but the taste was amazing. The texture was also surprisingly good, considering it was gluten-free. The shiitake mushrooms and sauces were fantastic. My favorite thing was the popcorn "chicken". I can't believe it wasn't made with fake meat, but mushrooms. Beautiful taste and texture. My only regret is I didn't save room for dessert.

Yelp
This was one of the most delicious and innovative meals I've experienced anywhere! They are 98% plant based, with lots of gluten free options as well. Came here while in Hong Kong for a couple days traveling. I had a smoked carrot crepe, which came in a crispy teff njera, with deliciously fresh veggies, pine nut cream, and a fresh egg on top. They make everything themselves, down to the coconut milk making the creamiest turmeric latte! To top it off, service was great, friendly, and extremely accommodating. Decor is very cute. The food is quite pricey but totally worth it for the quality, care and creativity put into it. A pleasant surprise for a tasty and relaxing meal!

Yelp
Rude service. The working here were super rude from the start. Basically we didn't didn't have a reservation and instead of being nice and accommodating they kept pestering us to why we were here. And I told them it's cause we are meeting someone here. Instead of asking if we wanna make a reservation or let us know that they are full that day, they tried to shooo us away. We go about this for a good 10 mins. In the end, things were kinda resolved and once the people we were meeting came they let us have a table for an hour. Could've been handled better from the start... food was mediocre.

Yelp
The restaurant is spacious and fresh. Love the design, plants and light. The lunch set I had last fall was great with salad, delicious tempeh, coffee and biscotti. Everything on the ethnic plate I had for dinner last Saturday tasted bland, the pancakes and tofu weren't really edible. The carrots and other veggies had virtually no taste to them. My friend and I also sampled a few juices and hot beverages and the quality was good. The staff was friendly and the service prompt. We wondered why the place was so empty on a Saturday evening. I will definitely be back to try the mushroom linguine and the breakfast sets. Looks so tempting. Will report.

Yelp
If you have always been wondering how fancy can vegan eateries get, Grassroots Pantry is just the place that you have to visit. First thing first, this place is definitely not the cheapest choice around the area - but the exclusivity would explain the price list well. Fret' not though - as they do have business lunch menu available. I tried their mushroom risotto, which was truly an art in itself. Carefully prepared, and garnished with attention paid to the little details. Not only looking good, it was a very flavourful dish considering that it's actually vegan. So, honestly, I always have the misperception that vegan food while being so healthy, wouldn't be tasting as good. I have been proven wrong apparently - the spices that they have whipped up together in the dish were just outstanding. For the beverage that comes with the set, you could choose to upgrade your beverage to their pressed juice or coffee, or while they understand that you might find it too challenging to pick one of the two, they also have an option where you could have both pressed juice, and your cuppa joe. Pretty considerate, aren't they? I picked their pressed juice, which was called the liver saver - obviously a great choice after a night out, you could hear your liver screaming for help. Tasting healthy, and I almost immediately felt healthier after having it. They do have quite a wide range of desserts too - vegan, of course. But I have not tried them during my visit. But with no doubt, they all looked salivating. Food and beverage aside, their decoration of their little space was nothing short of cozy and exclusive. They picked a very peaceful tone of colour for the interior and decorations looked classy altogether. Would definitely love to visit again!

Yelp
No. Just stop. This place is very close to my casa, and I pass it daily, and read the reviews, which is why I stayed away for so long. I shouldn't trusted my gut and yelp. Anyway, stopped in for Sunday breakfast, and sat at the bar. Watched two other people get seated and served drinks right away, and I sat. and sat. and waited. Finally the person behind the bar (super limited alcohol menu BTW, no billinis, not brunch-y drinks at all) acknowledged my existence, and asked what I wanted. I ordered the lemon chia pancakes and a latte. The latte was excellent once I got it, 15 min later, I think maybe made with almond milk. The way way to sweeten it was with maple syrup, which I'm not sure I want in my latte. Anyway, refer to Michelle's pic of the pancakes, they were insanely small. Like the size of a quarter. Okay, maybe not that small, but for the price, ridiculous. Way over priced, and they didn't even taste that great. Very pretty, but that's about it. Again, the service was really lacking, not friendly, and slow. Definitely won't be making a return, way too places to go for less money and servers without a scowl.

Tamsin G.

Yelp
Grassroots Pantry was a bit of a spur of the moment choice after just arriving in Hong Kong, but definitely worth it. Having Celiac Disease, I was not expecting to find anything great gluten free, but I was wrong! It was great for the whole family (even those of us without the gluten allergy) and we all left satisfied. Everything was fresh and healthy, and as a family of meet eaters, we hardly noticed a difference. We are only in Hong Kong for 5 days but have plans to return back!

Gracie L.

Yelp
Loved the food and the decor. Service can be not so friendly to friendly depends on when you go and who hosts you. The food is delicious get ready to step out a little heavier. Recommend the Tomato Mac and cheese, shiitake gnocchi, profiteroles for desserts, the jackfruit nachos are good too. Signature salad if you feel on the lighter side not too hungry but don't get too excited about the macadamia cheese in the salad you won't get that much. Japanese dessert platter is exquisite if you like Japanese desserts which I'm not the best fan of but I loved the turmeric chai latte and the profiteroles. Nice decor and atmosphere. Perfect for a date night or a nice dinner with family or friends.

A L.

Yelp
Stepped in here for dinner after passing by. We had the signature salad and the pan fried gyoza, which were both excellent, and the cauliflower and cheese, which was good. Creative cocktail list. I had the "Mary's not quite cleanse" - twist on Bloody Mary and very tasty. Would skip desert - can't recall exactly what we ordered, but expected fresh raspberries, they were dried/in the cake and it wasn't great.

Yelp
Great food in a wonderful atmosphere! The popcorn chicken was especially good! Just a few blocks from the temple and the street antiques

EUNICE K.

Yelp
Soo good!!!! Got the avo and poached egg on toast and the French toast. Both were delicious. Shared the popcorn chicken. Tasted just like chicken! Wouldn't even know it's made from mushroom. Will come back again for brunch tomorrow:)

Yelp
Fantastic! We are not vegans, but stumbled upon this place at the end of a walking tour. Flavorful, satisfying food. Clear, fresh flavors. This place is just plain great, without any qualification.

blake h.

Yelp
Cool place, neat space. Probably a little too hip for me but the Chinese inspired vegan dishes are a welcomed change to the overly heavy meat dishes in this part of Asia. Id definitely recommend if you want to mix with mostly expats and tourists and you're looking for a decent westernized vegetarian interpretation of local and regional cuisine.

Shirley C.

Yelp
Food is very mediocre, not very innovative. Drinks are quite good. Good place for a chat, friendly staff.
