"Take home the essence of Argentina with a fragrance inspired by pampas grasses, the northern desert, or Patagonian lupine blossoms. Fueguia 1833, a perfume lab on ultra-chic Avenida Alvear in Recoleta, creates scents from all-natural ingredients. Only the best-quality plants and spices available at production time make the cut, meaning aromas vary from batch to batch. Each bottle bears an engraved lot number, and large flagons come in handsome handmade boxes. Even better: A Fueguia scent does more than make you irresistible—a portion of all proceeds goes to the NGO Help Argentina, a fund-raising organization that supports environmental, human-rights, and public education charities. "Even though you can find Fueguia’s boutiques in New York, Zurich, Tokyo, Moscow, and Milan, it’s worth visiting the flagship perfume laboratory in Recoleta, on Alvear (basically, the Fifth Avenue of B.A.). Perfumer Julian Bedel finds inspiration from the scents of the Argentine countryside, where he travels to every year, and even the name pays tribute: 'Fueguia 1833' is a nod the scientific explorations of Charles Darwin, and journeys of Robert Fitz Roy in Tierra del Fuego, a remote area at the end of the world. If you can swing it, pick up the Musakara Jasminum or Musakara Polianthes (each perfume starts at around $700). Each limited edition bottle includes an engraved lot number and year." - Allie Lazar

I visited this shop on Friday, January 4th, accompanied by my mother and brother. While we may have appeared touristy and underdressed after walking around the city all day, the service we received was notably inconsistent. A blonde/redheaded female staff appeared much more attentive to other customers, some of whom ultimately did not make a purchase, while we felt overlooked despite our intent to buy. We selected three items, totaling approximately 798,500 ARS ($775 USD), but were disappointed by the lack of attention to detail in the purchasing experience. For instance, we noticed that another customer was offered a complimentary sample, yet no such gesture was extended to us. Furthermore, we were not provided with an itemized receipt. Despite assurances that it would be emailed, no receipt ever arrived. Additionally, when we inquired about VAT forms for tax refunds (as US citizens), we were told these only applied to candles, not perfumes. This information seemed questionable, as we could not find any clarification online. Such ambiguity detracts from the customer experience. While the shop itself is aesthetically appealing and provides an opportunity to explore unique fragrances, the overall service fell short of expectations for what should be a luxury shopping experience. For US-based customers, purchasing from the brand’s website or domestic stores may offer better value and convenience (online, our purchase would have totaled $622 USD). Based on our experience, I would recommend doing that in the future.

The staff is great, polite and explain everything to you. I speak Spanish so it was no problem. The perfumes are quite unique and not everyone will like them. They have a strong base herbal smell – it’s part of the brand and I was expecting it – that kinda ruined the experience for me. Even the wood, amber and incense notes had too much of it for my taste. If you like Musks you might like it. However keep in mind this is a niche brand with multiple galleries around the world. They sell for something like U$ 150 for 30 ml, which is A LOT to risk in an international flight. It was a unique experience nonetheless.

I bought two bottles of perfume for myself and my mom. They are a bit expensive but of very good quality, so it's worth it as a special gift or if you just want to spoil yourself. The ladies there all spoke English and were very helpful in finding fragrances that I liked. My Argentinian friend was able to pay for my purchase remotely in order to avoid additional fees with a foreign credit card.

Unfortunately they just sold the last flacon of 100 ml, so I had to buy one of 30 ml whose price per ml is almost triple, also unfortunately one thousand pesos is missing from my count. Probably I lost it, unlucky day.

An olfactory trip through Argentina and Patagonia. Beautifully presented, ambers, musks, gourmand/fruity, ozonic, woody. Read up about the association of Fueguia Basket, Charles Darwin and Robert Fitz Roy and of course the wonderful collection dedicated to Jorge Luis Borges (Biblioteca del Babel). For perfume lovers and anyone with a curious streak
