"Holiday tamales are back at all three locations of the fast-casual Tex-Mex restaurant. On deck are dozen tamales filled with chicken tinga, black bean and cheese, or guajillo pork shoulder, available with salsas. Then there are meals with beans, rice, salsas, queso, and guacamole. Orders can be placed online for each location (downtown, Bouldin Creek, Westlake) with pickups from Sunday, December 22 through Tuesday, December 24 with a deadline of 5 p.m. the day before intended pickups." - Nadia Chaudhury
"It’s only $1 extra to get Fresa’s queso fully loaded, so it feels like you’re losing money by ordering the classic. The fully loaded comes with black beans, guacamole, chorizo, pico de gallo, queso fresco, and vinegary salsa bruja mixed into the melted cheese. If that sounds like a mouthful, just imagine how it feels to the chip that has to carry that weight. You could pour this over chips and call them nachos. There’s a lot going on, but the ratios are good and it’s an overall solid dip, even if the cheese gets a little lost in the mix. What we got: Queso, totally loaded" - nicolai mccrary
"The second iteration of Fresa’s is made for big groups. It feels like you’re hanging in the backyard of a friend who just happens to make incredible rotisserie chicken, wood-grilled vegetables, and skirt steak. (We need this kind of friend.) There is a giant playscape full of kids in the backyard, so the crowd sometimes leans toward parents who prefer margaritas to hanging out with their kids. No judgment here. "The South First location of the popular taco shop has a large play area for kids, including a chalkboard wall. The kids’ menu includes tacos, queso, a quesadilla, and a bowl — plus, there are things like nachos for everyone to enjoy. Takeout orders can be placed online; there are indoor and outdoor dine-in services." - Erin Russell
"Fresa’s on South First isn’t just a carbon copy of the original drive-thru on North Lamar - this one has much more room, a big patio, and an expanded menu (including more entrees and margaritas). In other words: you can now have that amazing chicken (and queso, tacos, churros, and ice cream), while also having a real restaurant experience. But don’t worry, if your favorite place to eat Fresa’s will always be your couch, there’s a dedicated takeout window and parking for that, too." - Katherine Lewin
