At Flour & Weirdoughs in Key Biscayne, snag top-notch croissants, unique baked goods, and a killer wine bar next door — perfect post-bike ride.
"Next Door is a wine bar run by (and right next door to) Key Biscayne’s Flour & Weirdoughs. And it’s a perfect option if you’re looking for a fairly chill night out with a bottle of wine and some excellent dishes involving bread. The menu is tight, but as good as you’d expect from one of Miami’s best bakeries. They make a simple, outstanding choripan, eggplant escabeche served with sliced baguette and crispy baguette chips, and a few sourdough pizzas. Nothing on the menu costs more than $20—which is quite refreshing in this current moment of everything costing more than $20. The space is small, but it’s great for dates and if it’s nice out, they slide open the windows to take advantage of the ocean breeze. " - ryan pfeffer
"The Beach: Anywhere in Key Biscayne. There’s something about a baguette sandwich that feels particularly appropriate for the beach. It’s easy to handle and you can eat it in stages, stuffing it back into its little paper sleeping bag while you go Baywatch run into the surf. Thankfully all the very good sandwiches at this Key Biscayne bakery are available on baguette. We like their ham and cheese for our beach days—but everything here is good. "Flour & Weirdoughs is an excellent bakery home to some interesting creations, like a brisket croissant and a cinnamon roll big enough to use as a flotation device. The rest of the bakery is full of more pleasant surprises, like guava and cheese babka and a great pan con lechón. They also make all kinds of specialty bread, including a cacio e pepe sourdough loaf. This place is definitely an essential stop to pick up picnic supplies before your next Key Biscayne beach day. The menu is small, but as good as you’d expect from one of Miami’s best bakeries. They have an outstanding choripan, oysters, and a few sourdough pizzas. Nothing on the menu costs more than $20 either. The space is small, but perfect for couples and not too loud to have a conversation. If it’s nice out, they slide open the windows to take advantage of the ocean breeze. " - ryan pfeffer, virginia otazo
"If there is a fine line between genius and insanity, the bakers at Key Biscayne’s Flour & Weirdoughs balance on it like flour-dusted tight-rope walkers. But with items like cacio e pepe sourdough loaves, al pastor danishes, and spicy corn empanadas, Flour & Weirdoughs definitely lands on the genius side of that line. While their croissant might not be as aesthetically pleasing as some of the others on this list, it makes up for it with rich, toasty butter flavor and a crisp texture. Oh, and there’s also an excellent version stuffed with brisket, provolone, and grain mustard, because of course there would be here." - charlie crespo, ryan pfeffer, mariana trabanino
