The 23 Best Restaurants in Montevideo, Uruguay | Eater

"A gorgeous, high-ceilinged bookstore with colorful tiled floors forms the entrance to this charming cafe, tailor-made for a quiet midmorning coffee and snack or a late afternoon craft beer (note that tables fill up rapidly at lunchtime). The simple menu includes spinach tarts, soups, and sandwiches on bread that is dense and moist (still a rarity in a city that prefers the airy baguette), plus a generous selection of desserts, like carrot cake and brownies. The owners are also behind another beautiful cafe space, Cultural Alfabeta, and the kitchen of the new five-star Hotel Montevideo. — NMW" - Marcela Baruch

A Secret garden café where books and coffee meet. Escaramuza feels like stepping into a quiet, leafy refuge tucked inside the city. It is set inside a beautifully restored early 20th-century house & from the moment you step past towering shelves filled with literary treasures to the peaceful patio at the back, it feels like a secret haven for anyone who loves to slow down and savor the little pleasures of life. You wander through shelves of beautiful books before finding your way to the peaceful patio in the back, which makes the whole experience feel a little magical and removed from the bustle of Montevideo. The latte was smooth and delicious, and the lemon loaf was flaky and full of fresh, bright flavor. The space feels welcoming, calm, and refreshing, with warm service and a gentle, unhurried atmosphere that invites you to linger. Prices feel fair for the quality and experience, and the combination of a thoughtfully curated bookstore with a serene garden café makes this a truly special spot. Highly recommend!

Library and cafe (indoor and outdoor) ❤️ So cute that it attracts a lot of people. We had to wait 20min before having a table. I started to feel a beginning of cold and they had a special infusion for cold which was so good and efficient!

Lovely little cafe tucked away in a stunning building. We decided to sit outside and enjoy the beautiful patio. Service was quick, food was yummy, and the vibe was very relaxing. Highly recommend the pressed juices and taking a peek around the book store after you finish your meal.

Google
A gorgeous bookstore that is well-worth the trip. While most of the book titles are in Spanish, one can still go to enjoy the decorations, the garden, and the cafe. It's also cool to see a stained glass ceiling. The staff are very friendly and welcoming

Another historical architectural gem for book and coffee lovers to spend hours and hours and hours in. Massive amount of books to browse, great artwork and food. I discovered aioli here and haven’t stopped making it since! A little pricey, but worth it for the ambiance and great service. Dulce de leche flan to die for!
