The Best Fall Restaurant and Bar Pop-Ups Around D.C. | Eater DC

"Natural wine shop Domestique Wine hosts a one-day Breadscraps pop-up on Sunday, November 23, from 1 to 4 p.m., where former Lutèce pastry chef Savannah Velasco-Kent will sell a potato pan, German rye loaf, ginger molasses cake, flan with flavors of orange and whiskey, and an adorable corn-shaped cornbread made with Mexican varietal corn; the shop is also offering a wine tasting from 2 to 4 p.m. to pair with the breads and sweets, with pre-orders on Breadscraps’ website and a few extra loaves available day-of." - Emily Venezky

"My husband and I absolutely love natural wine—whether it's a bottle of Scotty-Boy! blush, Gaia Assyrtiko Wild Ferment, or something a bit more funky and obscure, we're always down to try it! Our go-to shop in D.C. is Domestique, a wine shop dedicated to natural wines."

D.C. Restaurants Go All Out to Combat Coronavirus Concerns | Eater DC

"I learned that Domestique, a sustainable wine shop in Truxton Circle, temporarily closed to the public and shifted to a pickup-only model while maintaining staff shifts (with the option to stay home); orders are being packed with gloves, D.C. delivery is free for $75-and-up purchases, and the shop is handling phone orders heavily." - Tierney Plumb

Domestique Supplies Natural Wines to Top D.C. Restaurants Like Komi and Bad Saint | Eater DC

"At 10 Florida Avenue NW in Bloomingdale, I found a 2,500-square-foot natural wine shop that opened two months ago called Domestique. It carries roughly 400 hard-to-source selections—more than half from France (especially the Loire), with the rest from Italy, Germany, Austria, and the U.S.—and also stocks beers, ciders, and spirits from like-minded producers. Its inventory has already turned up on top D.C. menus (Bad Saint poured Domestique’s 2017 Marie Thibault Chenin Blanc Pet Nat), one of its Maryland bottles (Old Westminster’s 2018 Pét-Nat Piquette, served cold) has become a surprise best seller, and popular picks include the Martin Texier La Boutanche Rouge 2017. The shop sources through partner importer Selection Massale, reserves shelf space for plants and books and prints of winemakers, can ultimately hold 5,000 bottles, offers online ordering with local delivery (free over $100, $10 fee under) and ships to 14 states, and plans to host small dinner parties on an attached outdoor patio and events with visiting winemakers." - Tierney Plumb

12 Unlikely Places to Drink Bubbly in D.C. Right Now | Eater DC

"As a new natural-wine retail shop in Truxton Circle, it stocks biodynamic Champagnes—an uncommon find given historical chemical processes tied to Champagne production—and one in-demand bottle behind the register is the Ulysse Collin 'Les Maillons' Blanc de Noirs Extra Brut priced at $107." - Tierney Plumb

Google
We have been big fans of Domestique for a while and are part of their wine club, so when we were planning our wedding we reached out to them to ask if they would curate table wine for us that coordinated with the tarot cards we were using for each of the tables. They did an amazing job - writing thoughtful descriptions of all of the wines and curating an excellent selection. The wines were a huge hit at the wedding! People were raving about them - they paired excellently with the pizza and looked so cool on the tables. They also gave us some wine keys for the tables and it made the vibe felt like a giant dinner party with people opening bottles and pouring them around to their friends. It was so special and cozy-feeling and was nice to share a business we really care about with our loved ones on such an important day. (Photos by Heather McBride Photography)

Google
A DC gem! Knowledgeable and friendly staff who are so helpful at helping you grab a single bottle or helping curate wine for a dinner party. The wine club is incredible, and I just can't say enough good things about the selection and the staff.

Google
We have been members of their wine club for years and it never ever gets old, there is always something delicious and exciting to try! By being in the club, and ritually reading aloud the newsletter description of each wine as we take our first sips, we have learned an innumerable amount of things about wine. we are forever grateful to domestique for introducing us to the world of natural wine!!

Google
I was visiting DC and decided to visit Domestique to check out their selection of natural wines. It was one of the best selections of natural wines I’ve even seen seen. Chris, the manager, was awesome taking the time to educate me on natural wines that I’ve never heard of and I can’t wait to try some of these wines. I look forward to visiting Domestique on my future visits to DC.

Google
such an awesome shop with great service. I've always ordered online and had my DC friends deliver them when they visit me in WV. this was my first time in the store, and now I really wish I lived closer

Google
This place is amazing! All the love and respect to the owner! The wines that they have are AMAZING! I had them curate a box of wine for me and only gave them a few notes about the types of flavors I like and they CAME THROUGH! They prepared such a well rounded box of wine. Each one was exciting, and pleasing to the pallet. I'm so glad they are in my neighborhood! They are a small own business so be sure to get to know and support them! Great management and team of people operating the store! I LOVE THIS PLACE!

Google
Got an awesome wine recommendation from the delightful and knowledgeable Eric (the shop owner?). I highly recommend if you’re looking for a really specific wine or region and want to support small wineries. Great local business-I’ll definitely be back next time I’m in DC!

Google
Absolutely love this wine store! They specialize in natural wines from France which is something I had been searching for in the DMV since getting back from a recent trip to France. Mostly French wine, but also have a small selection from Italy and France. Ask staff for their recommendations within your ideal price range for a bottle. Would definitely recommend stopping by for special occasion wines.

Yelp
4.5 stars for a fantastic hidden gem of a wine shop. When it comes to wine shops, most of them are usually overpriced and/or full of people who just want to judge you for your lack of wine knowledge. Fortunately, my wife and I had a fantastic wine experience at Komi and the sommelier told us that we had to check out Domestique. Boy did we luck out. My wife first made it over to Domestique, which is located in a pretty rough area (no offense to those who live there) over at the intersection of Florida and North Capitol with one of her friends to try some wine and check the place out. After signing up for the venue's wine club (which I believe is $75 a month for 3 bottles of wine plus some free wine tastings), she took me over to check it out. The store is very open and has lots of its bottles up and out in wooden shelves. While the store has some relatively expensive wines, Domestique takes pride in the fact that it sells excellent and unique wine at excellent prices. Rather than make it a status thing, the people working at the store are essentially wine nerds who are really interested in telling you about the wine and finding something new and exciting to try. We went up to the counter on this visit and a nice gentleman greeted us and let us try 4 different wines. He not only gave us the background on each wine, but also got really deep into where it was from and brought up his Mac Book to show us something funny about one of the locations. When we didn't like one of the 4 wines, he was totally cool with us pouring it into the little bucket on the counter and trying something else. He also did a really good job of going back and forth between customers so that we felt like we were interacting without getting too much face time. While the tasting was included in our membership, the fact that it is just $10 a person normally makes it worth anyone coming over and trying. Overall, Domestique is a wine shop that anyone who is interested in wine or interested in getting into wine should check out. While the area is rough, the great and well-priced wine and excellent service make it a trip worth taking.

Yelp
Amazing selection and great customer service! I came in looking for a gift and was greeted by a staff member who kindly welcomed me in and showed me around the store and how it was arranged. He was extremely knowledgeable and had some great recommendations for me at the price I wanted. I don't know much about wine so his help was greatly appreciated! The store itself is really nice with a wide selection, it definitely worth stopping in and perusing but you can also order online for pick up, local delivery, and national shipping. Even though I stopped in for a gift I ended up picking up something for myself too, excited to try my selections!

Yelp
Had the best experience here yesterday. A server in town tipped me off to Domestique's existence after I inquired where I could find Natural Wines as a home consumer. (As you may be aware, dear reader, there's a big divide in the wine community over natural and biodynamic wines v. Wines made with sulfates etc. as a result, a lot of established wine shops in town don't carry them. Because they are lame.) Enter Domestique. Their selection is amazing, their staff is knowledgeable and helpful, most of their bottles seem to be $30 and under, and the layout is easy to navigate. (Also, they have a wine club and delivery options) I'm in love. We bought 6 bottles. I can't wait to try them so I can....come back and buy more. Definitely a welcome addition to the DC wine space--so glad to have them in town.

Yelp
Really wanted to try something different - sommelier was nice but his recommendations were way off ! Ended up throwing all bottles out . Emailed and they offered me a store credit but to come in for a wine tasting , which is not anything as a mom I would have time for . Was willing to try other options but the manager got involved and was extremely unprofessional and not at all trying to figure out a solution. Her reaction and lack of compromise was extremely disappointing especially when we were talking about $100 . I was actually shocked at the words she used when I was merely trying to find a solution. Not at all one to recommend and will go back to my usual favorites on the hill .

Yelp
Love this place! As soon as I walked in, someone greeted me and asked me what I was looking for. She was clearly super knowledgeable about the wines and was very friendly. The space is beautiful and well organized and it seems like they have a large selection. They also have things organized by price and have a good number of bottles under $20, which is amazing. Can't wait to go back for a tasting! Highly recommend.

Yelp
A great store for interesting, delicious wine. My phone appointment was easy and fun. The person on the other end listened to what I like and picked a case based on what I told him. And the delivery came within a few hours. Easy, fun, friendly, and fast! Cannot recommend highly enough!!

Yelp
Big fan of this place! They have an impressive collection of French and California Wines. They also have a very impressive collection of Mezcal which is unexpected and wonderful! They also are very liberal with letting you taste and try things. The staff is great and knowledgeable! I highly recommend stopping in!

Yelp
Domestique is easily the best place to buy wine in DC. Their style is low-key, unpretentious (something others claim but not achieve). The store features innovative styles of natural wine in bottles not available elsewhere. Their wine club provides good value and an interesting way to taste a nice spectrum of different producers. Eric, Jeff, and Rebekah will make anyone feel comfortable regardless of how much or little background they have.

Yelp
If I was ever lucky enough to open a wine shop, I'd want it to channel Domestique. The wine selection is incredible, so many interesting, funky, and hard to find wines with a good mix of price points. The staff is friendly and helpful and not pretentious at all. My husband and I have done the wine club for the last few months, would highly recommend. Each month has had a unique, curated selection. Do yourself a favor and stop into Domestique ASAP.

Yelp
I needed a Christmas gift for a friend at the last minute (on Christmas Eve) and these guys pulled through! Delivery was prompt and the bottle came in a nice bag that I was able to make festive. Their selection and customer service is excellent. Thank you guys so much! Highly recommend this business

Yelp
Despite hearing about this place for over a year, I didn't interact with them at all until a few weeks ago. I asked if they did virtual wine classes, and someone called me directly to set up a class for some friends and me. They were able to select wines that met my (not super high) price point, and arranged a fun 1.5 hour blind tasting! The customer service, the wines, the price.... everything was fantastic!
