"Depanneur manages to beautifully balance consistency with surprise and delight. The sandwich shop, seemingly run by a group of best friends who have the same taste in fashion and manners, provides consistently perfectly proportionate sandwiches on wonderfully baked bread. And with their daily specials, they’re able to tempt the most strict creatures of habit out of their routine." - Krrb

"If you just want a quick, simple sandwich, go to Depanneur. It’s a little market on Wythe, and we like to think of it as a bodega that went to grad school and now thinks it’s better than everyone else (because it kind of is). You can get things like Persian yogurt and saltwater taffy here, and you can also get a great pastrami or egg salad sandwich. And if you need a place to eat, there are usually some tables on the sidewalk out front." - bryan kim

"Dépanneur is the general store we all wish we had on our block. Part café, part grocer the inventory ranges from the necessary (fresh-baked bread, newspapers, eggs, three types of yogurt) to the indulgent (a series of canned sardines, unusual grains, wildly expensive chocolate). The coffee is expertly made and always hot, the range of to-go snacks behind the counter is meant to satisfy every state of hunger with mini ham-and-cheese baguettes, croissants, and slabs of pound cake. Pick up a coffee or an obscure bottle of kombucha and sit at one of the round tables outside, perfectly placed for people watching. "

Depanneur is all about delicious healthy specialty artisanal foods served by friendly people who are passionate about customer service! We stopped there in the afternoon, and we were very impressed with delicious home made sandwiches to order, with a wide selection of coffees, teas and a very wide selection of snacks! The store also has specialty foods and condiments to take home, along with wines, pasta, flowers, gourmet breads, cookies and many kitchen ware items! They also do catering! It is worth stopping to browse because there are so many interesting things to see as well!

Been wanting to try this place for awhile after passing it on the way to Trader Joe’s. I’m glad I did, but was pretty disappointed in the value. I got their chicken sandwich special they had going for fall, in a half sandwich/soup combo that came with chips which came out to around $21 with tax. The workers were friendly and helpful so the service was an overall pleasant experience! When I opened the sandwich (with the packaging making the sandwich look larger than it actually was) I was shocked to see how small it was. You can see the sandwich next to my hand for scale. It’s like they took the smallest pieces from the end of a loaf, and cut that in half. I understand the rent can’t be cheap for this business, but this was pretty disappointing. Ive adjusted to Williamsburg prices and know what to expect, but this is the only time I felt truly ripped off. The chicken salad was great, but I felt like I could get a better bang for my buck at literally and other cafe, bodega, sandwich shop in the area with similar quality. I finished the sandwich in literally 4 bites. The soup I had was a vegetable medley with pasta shells, it was OK! The utensils it came with were eco friendly but the spoon was flat lol I’ve seen the business’s responses to similar experiences as mine, so I know what’s coming. Just wanted to warn others on the portions you’ll be getting here. I do hope this business finds a way to make the portions more fair while continuing to pay their employees a fair wage. I‘ll probably be back to try their beverages, but that’s it

Google
Sandwiches are a terrible value. $20 for a Reuben that barely has 3 thin slices of pastrami. Go to Frankels instead. It took well over 20 minutes to be made despite there being only us and one other group inside. Only one employee was making food while the two others stood around chatting.

Google
Top spot, great location. Offers a surprising range of unique, high-quality foods and drinks. Staff are friendly and helpful. Can’t forget to mention the coffee bar is top-notch. However, it’s worth checking out for the artisanal condiments alone.

Google
This place is pretty good; they did a great job with the breakfast sandwich I ordered! I agree with other reviews encouraging ordering ahead since making the sandwich takes a long time. Also, agreed that it is pricey for the size of the sando. Anyways, happy to support a local business and wish them continued success!

Google
My favorite sandwich shop in Brooklyn. I recommend the hummus and veggie if your vegetarian or the Turkey manchego if you eat meat! Their coffee is also excellent and the overall vibe is quaint and cozy. Seating is only available outside.

Google
Love their sandwiches but Be prepare to wait 20min for grilled cheese sandwich

Google
Feeling like a piece of sludge after eating this food. For over $26 for lunch as an employee around the area, I expected the best of the best. The baguette hardly had any filling, so I had to buy another item with protein. Wildly overpriced, the staff is lovely but unfortunately run by what seems like a greedy owner praying on tourists.

Judy L.

Yelp
Stopped by to grab Sammy on the go, and I was looking for something simple. Baguette, ham and cheese, grilled. They didn't have on their menu but they were kind enough to substitute bread for one of their sandwich which had similar fillings. I've had this place tagged to go for awhile so I was pleasantly happy that the staff were so welcoming and helpful. The sandwich was so good! Their baguette was crispy outside and soft inside and ham and cheese excellent as well. I would definitely go back for more.

Sonja K.

Yelp
Really enjoyed this spot. Sandwhiches are amazing!! Bread is delicious crispy and fresh. I got the turkey on baguette and it was amazing. $20 slightly steep for size but delicious. They have a bit of seating but not much, good for if alone, or they have tables outside. I ordered at the counter and food was ready in about 10 min

Steven Z.

Yelp
Great local sandwich shop! The overall taste of Depanneur sandwiches are top notch -- not too salty or heavy. Depending on which one you get, the portions are relatively hefty too. The interior is cute as well. They offer a selection of italian ingredients and quirky trinkets. Gives you something to look at while they are preparing your meal. If I had to nitpick, the sandwiches could do with a little less sauce. Furthermore, apparently they charge extra if you pay with card. But even with the surplus, it's about the same price as any other gourmet sandwich in NYC.

Oscar L.

Yelp
The Hangover Cure sandwich is so good for breakfast. There's a nice kick from the sriracha and is filled with all the good stuff like avocado and eggs. The bread is also nicely toasted and crunchy without being too hard or dry. The service is decent, can be a bit slow if there is lots of people in line. The store itself has a nice variety of small business products and is a great collection of sauces and everyday necessities.

Hiral P.

Yelp
Updating my review again. They added some bar seating so there is a little more indoor seating options now. Also they didn't charge me extra for cream in my americano the most recent times so maybe it was a one off. I love the mini baguette with cream cheese and cucumber definitely recommend that for a quick snack

Maciej S.

Yelp
I just bought a chocolate croissant from this store, and it had only one tiny bit of chocolate in it. I'm really disappointed. The quality is getting worse.

AP P.

Yelp
25 minutes for a sandwich to come out? Doesn't matter how good it is, I won't be able to enjoy it because my lunch break is over! Also, the tiniest sign on the window indicating they add a 4% fee on all cc transactions. So lame when you are already paying $17 for a sandwich

Matteo R.

Yelp
This high-end coffee shop/sandwich shop/grocery store/bakery serve a wide variety of tasty sandwiches[1], alongside cleaning products, books, bread[2], charcuterie, cheese, olive oil, and more. But what I really like at Dépanneur is their amazing beer selection. Here you can find high quality beers from great microbreweries such KCBC, Transmitter Brewing, Five Boroughs Brewing Co., Collective Arts, Hoof Hearted Brewing, Grimm, Omnipollo, Talea Beer Co., Lone Pine, Edmund's Oats and many more, at reasonable prices[3]. Get a coffee, get a sandwich, get a croissant, get a baguette, and get a few tasty beers to try at home. ---------------- [1] They have 14 different sandwiches on the menu. [2] You can get a fresh baguette from Balthazar for $3. [3] Most beers are in the $5 range.

Yelp
This WAS my go-to for lunch for over two years. The past 4 months, every purchase has been horrible. (EVERY SINGLE VISIT) .. how hard is it to mess up a sandwich with 1-3 Ingredients? Stale bread, dry meats, skimpy portions. My favorite mess up: ordered a classic grilled cheese and it was bread, tomato and arugula. They forgot the cheese for the grilled cheese. hahah. There should be zero room for errors when you charge $15-20 for a sandwich.

Karen G.

Yelp
Delicious lunch spot! we ordered two sandwiches and a soup of the day. possibly the best sandwiches i've had in a while. My bf and i shared #8 and #9 which i recommend doing so you could explore more of their menu. #8 comes with a french onion soup to dip it in- it was perfect. Im normally not a fan as french onion soups tend to be oily but this was the perfect consistency. I highly recommend #9 as it was my favorite from what we had and i think pairing it with the soup is also a plus. will be coming back soon!

Claudia C.

Yelp
I requested in-room catering at the Wythe Hotel for my wedding day getting-ready festivities. I placed my order for a fruit salad, sandwiches, cheese and charcuterie, and coffees and teas a few days before the big day, and they delivered my order promptly on the day of. All of the food and drinks were incredibly tasty, and it was a big hit amongst my family and friends!

Devyn Sloane S.

Yelp
Getting a simple sandwich here, be prepared to wait about at least 40 minutes. Its absolutely ridiculous. 3 people working on sandwiches... and you have to wait an hour. Also, they are working so slow, it's actually mind boggling. Also, these sandwich's have like 3 ingredients. Go to court street grocers instead

Niki N.

Yelp
I like this place but they don't take allergies seriously :( I asked them to omit something in an order and they didn't omit it and gave it to me anyway (fully knowing they forgot to omit it and they were not telling me they forgot). Luckily I was able to spot they forgot to remove the ingredient :((

Sara Y.

Yelp
Cafe, grocery, and cute goods! Friendly services. There's place to sit down outside. I recommend you going here when the weather is nice. You can find a table outside around 9am, but around 12pm it could be full. Everything is self services. B33, Q59 are around the corner. L train Subway Bedford ave sta is walking distance. Enjoy.

Sanchi O.

Yelp
Used to be my go to for matcha lattes but now they've started watering down their oat milk. It tastes sooo bad now so I just go elsewhere. Stuff in the shop is cool though and the sandwiches are good but way overpriced.

Caroline D.

Yelp
A little overpriced, but they have some interesting sandwiches, drinks, and even a cute little selection of market goods and wines. I ordered their signature breakfast sandwich, and everything from the bread, to the bacon jam, to the fresh eggs were delectable - although, it was a bit sweeter than I would've liked it. You can tell that they use premium ingredients, which helps to justify the price.

Alex F.

Yelp
I'm not one to leave a bad review but I have beef with this place. I came to get some work done and the place has no Wi-Fi and no bathroom. Not to mention everything is extremely overpriced.

Dan B.

Yelp
Great coffee, cortado, macchiato, etc. Awesome breads sandwiches and croissants, etc...

Emily H.

Yelp
Amazing food options. Very good quality ingredients. All the packaged good they sell are so unique, tasty and I love that they're mostly local products. Cute shop and friendly staff. Easy to become a regular here

Scott N.

Yelp
The food is pretty decent but unfortunately the service is slow and there's never enough seating. Wish it was just a bit higher quality.

Christine K.

Yelp
I love this place, it's beautiful, clean. I had the #4 sandwich, it was $20.00! it was so worth it. Just delicious. The staff is lovely. The have condiments that are very unusual from companies I have never seen before and they all look wonderful. Their prepared foods look great too. They have a great array of all different stuff for sale. That looks incredible.

Yelp
After my workout I decided to grab lunch and sit by the benches near domino park, walked by this place while going to the water front then realized I could get food here to eat here and walked back. The store is cute. I thought it was a cafe but they also have random little things. Now reading other people's descriptions... it's a bodega I guess. To me it just feels like a cafe or quirky grocery's store. I'd prob just come for sandwiches and coffee when I'm close by or food for bench. If you really want kombucha or cider they also have it here. The sandwiches are about 14-16 each and take about 10-15 min wait. I grabbed a oat milk Chai latte and prosciutto, mozzarella, fig Jan sandwich Togo. The drink came out quickly but the sandwich took a bit. I had time to sit at the counter and take pictures of a dog across the street. When I got the sandwich it was nicely wrapped, maybe it would have been easier not to get it to go if I wanted to eat and walk.... Either way it was all delicious and exactly what I wanted. The bread was yummy and had a great time eating it at domino park. Definitely gonna do this again.

Jamie T.

Yelp
The food and what they stock is great, but make sure you look at what they are charging you! I've been there 2x in the last few weeks and they have charge me more than the list price of the items. Then to top it off the guys behind the counter are beyond rude and unhelpful when you bring it up to them. Today the guy just shrugged his shoulders and said prices are going up and wasn't planning to honor the list price until I complained about it being unethical. The guy before did something similar but didnt even match the price on the bag. Said he couldn't make the adjustment. The bag of nuts said $6 and he tried to charge me $10 and we met in the middle at $8.5. If prices need to go up, that's one thing but to falsely advertise the prices and hope that people don't notice is another. Super shady and clearly not a one off incident.

Arnica M.

Yelp
Hi, cool spot, trendy crowd with good vibes. They make interesting drinks and have a nice raw bar. Check it out !

Isabelle P.

Yelp
The turkey vegetable soup was some of the best soup I've had in my life...and I've had a lot of soup. 10/10

Hannah K.

Yelp
Very good lunch spot! Lots of options. Pretty pricey, but what do you expect in New York? I got a Demi Baguette Mini Sandwich (Brie and Tomato) and it was delicious and perfect for a light lunch! I will definitely go back.

Jill N.

Yelp
I really love this place. They serve beverages and a cute menu of sandwiches. They also sell novelty items like books or fancy ingredients made locally. Everything is dope, I don't have much to complain about because everything is top notch from service to product. But it is on the pricier side IMO. But it's Williamsburg so it makes sense. Would recommend the acme salmon sandwich and an iced oat milk latte

Meg L.

Yelp
This is such a cute store! Loved everything inside, especially the dried flowers. For $36 you can get a bundle of dried flowers that are so unique and beautiful. They sell a lot of specialty items from all over the states. The sandwich I loved is the turkey #4. It has perfect ratio of bread and vege and meats. The flavor tastes like spicy Mayo and it was really great.

Yu P.

Yelp
For the soup and the ambience. Feels like you're in the 1800s in a general store perhaps one where Laura Ingels' dad "Pa" goes into one of the bigger towns miles away from Walnut Grove. You feel like a foreigner in a time warp the moment you enter and then a split second later you feel cozy and right at home as you smell the aromas of fresh coffee and warm sandwiches. Take a seat and watch Brooklynites (the true hipsters of NYC) cross the street and walk their dogs or stroll their kid. It's easy to relax in this space.

David G.

Yelp
Outrageously overpriced!! This place has been my go-to lunch and occasional breakfast spot for 3 years. The only reason this review is not a 1 is that the food is solid. I have gotten at least one sandwich every week and I would guess I've spent close to $3k here over the course of the past 3 years. It has always been expensive. But again it is close to me and good food so I've been willing to fork over $17 for a sandwich consistently. I have never received any store credit or free pastry despite my obvious loyalty. No one even knows who I am. I would say that's pretty poor service. And they have now raised their already high sandwich prices by over 30%! Sandwiches are now around $22. I can afford it but why bother when I can still spend $13-$17 pretty much anywhere else. Court street grocers is now far cheaper and the sandwiches are much bigger. Mission sandwiches are similarly priced but that's because one sandwich can feed two people. I will not be going back to Depanneur until they adjust their prices. Curious to see if anyone else decides to do the same and maybe that will force their hand to lower their prices back to what they have been. So disappointing.

Ryan S.

Yelp
Wow! This place is great! We visited Depanneur three out of the four mornings that we were in town as it never disappointed. We highly recommend getting the Breakfast Bowl. It's a great value and taste amazing. Go check this place out!

Bobby W.

Yelp
Nice grocery, really weak sandwiches. Bread was awful, and not enough pastrami or cheese to make a difference

Sonata R.

Yelp
Once in williamsburg you have to visit this place! It's so awesome! My go to is iced Americano and No.4. - hits the spot every time! The place is so unique. If you are looking for some interesting things and authentic food, this is it

JJ F.

Yelp
My fiancé has been here at least a dozen times and loves it. She was so excited for me to try it. We went to pick our sandwiches up and when we got home we realized they were completely burnt. I'm surprised they would even allow it to go out like that. It was definitely a disappointing first experience.

LN K.

Yelp
Horrible service, the baristas are so apathetic and if I could give them 0 stars I would.

Matt M.

Yelp
This place was great when they first opened. The staff used to be really friendly not like the angry hipsters they have taking your order now. The food went downhill. I used to order a tasty ham&cheese Croissant that came toasted.lNow I order the same and it comes out half cold and the other half luke warm on what taste like day old croissant. This joint is super expensive for no reason. You can literally find the same products at Whole Foods for almost half the price. R.I.P Depanneur.

M P.

Yelp
Food is good. But the service is so slow. For my half sandwich at 4pm (not a busy hour), I waited for 30 min. The employees are not really paying attention.

Jennifer D.

Yelp
I was a bit early for my appointment for Paintbucket, so decided to stop here for an iced coffee. What I thought was just a coffee shop appears to be a rather upscale bodega, and the prices reflect that. A variety of delectable looking pastries that I managed to resist this time around. A few people seemed to be waiting a very long time for food orders, and there appeared to be only one person working behind the counter. Iced coffee did hit the spot on a very warm July morning.

Leah M.

Yelp
Sandwiches are great and they have a decent selection of other sauces/specialty spreads for sale which make great gifts! I always get the turkey sandwich and it's the perfect size - worth the price!

Daniel G.

Yelp
Easy going atmosphere with high quality sandwiches and pastries. I popped in here on Sunday with my girlfriend and I got myself tasty Turkey Ruben for $10. It wasn't a ton food, but considering the area it is in, this place gives fair amount of value for what you pay. I didn't buy any of the groceries, though I did appreciate their selection and creative arrangement of holiday chocolates.

Victoria H.

Yelp
This place is really hit or miss with quality control for the price. I've been here around 4 times and it's literally 50/50. Today I came and asked for the rosemary ham sandwich but just sub for turkey instead of ham. It took awhile for them to make because they had a few people in front of me and when I received the sand which it literally had ONE slice of Turkey and a million pickles. I would've brought it back to complain but I was on a lunch break and didn't have the time. I've had turkey sandwiches from here before and they were never so skimpy. To add insult to injury the sandwich already costs $15 but I'm pretty sure I was charged an extra $2 for the substitution which is outrageous considering it was barely any turkey on the sandwich. I still ate it because I was hungry and it tasted great but I doubt I'll come back because it's a waste of money.

Nina C.

Yelp
Fancy spot in Williamsburg. Do I think it's cute inside with an array of fun food and drinks? Yes. Is it overpriced and you could get a Sammy for much cheaper and same quality at a corner deli? Maybe

Steve C.

Yelp
I want to like it, but it's very middling. You'll get a good sandwich then the next time everything is bleh, and it's always overpriced and with the expectation of a nice tip, so "bleh" is not acceptable. There is also a bit of a chip on the shoulder of the workers. I get it, you worked through covid, it wasn't easy. Some of you do early mornings that are hard. But I used to do those jobs to, when I was in my 20s. I feel like they're only polite if you have that hipster Brooklyn look, I often get spoken to like I'm from another species because I don't have that look. It makes me think they might only want a certain type of clientele, the same way some clubs used to have velvet ropes at the door.

Eve B.

Yelp
Turkey is overly salty, sandwiches are slathered with condiments (so much so that they overwhelm), no place to sit indoors on a freezing cold day--treat yourself to Court Street Grocers instead. Far better sandwiches!

Jack G.

Yelp
My favorite neighborhood spot. The sandwiches are on point, as are the goodies from local artisans. I love being able to replenish my bulk soap and cleaning products here too. The staff has gotten a lot more friendly throughout the years too so kudos to them!

Emma P.

Yelp
Depanneur is an extremely nice corner shop/bodega in Williamsburg that's a little away from the hustle and bustle of Bedford Avenue yet at the same time not too far away. Depanneur sells a whole variety of upmarket condiments, cookies, crackers, charcuterie etc. (You wouldn't do a weekly shop here but if you wanted to put together a fancy picnic or gift basket you would be in the right place.) They also sell a small range of cookware items and books and of course this being 'the 'burg' there's quite a few artisanally made 'hipster groceries' such as pickles, bitters and granola. The store itself is spacious with rustic decor and if you want to eat here there are a few window seats inside and bistro tables and chairs outside. If you are going to eat here help yourself to drinks from the self-service fridges - they have a great selection of unusual sodas and waters - and order a made to order sandwich at the counter from the menu on the wall. If you don't want a sandwich there is also a tempting array of baked goodies including cookies, breakfast pastries and quiches and a full range of coffees and teas available. I usually go for lunch during the week when it's not too busy and usually have to wait about five minutes for my order and although the sandwiches are a little pricey they aren't extortionate as they are totally delicious! The ingredients are of exceptional quality and the sandwiches are well assembled so that you get a little of each component in every bite. The baguettes they use are very good also, crispy and chewy but not at all dry or tough, and the ingredient combinations are always spot on with flavours that complement each other. All in all, I love Depanneur (luckily I've not experienced the slow service that others have). If you want a quality sandwich, a gift for a food-loving friend or the makings of a waterfront picnic Depanneur has got you covered!

John C.

Yelp
Excellent sandwiches. Fresh and tasty ingredients. Enjoy your food outdoors... Nice location and people watching.

Joe M.

Yelp
ever had a breakfast sandwich and thought, "oh this is dank!"? throw that sandwich out the window, hop on your revel scooter or into the G wagon your daddy bought you to commute from the 8000 square foot loft he also pays for and get your disposable income over to Depanneur for their Dep breakfast sandwich. let those soft boiled eggs roll around in your mouth, let that bacon jam drip down your handlebar mustache thats been out of style since 2010. Watch out though! the creme fraiche might drip onto your noguchi table. for real though i never write reviews and this thing is so fu**ing good and they deliver it so fast during this quarantine that i had to do it. i already ate it so i can't provide a photo.

Matt M.

Yelp
I used to go into this place every day for cold brew; they were one of the few places that was open during covid, and their cold brew was good (and sizable). also, the service was, and still is, great. but then, one day, the cold brew tasted completely different. either they changed their formulation or started watering the coffee down, but it was clearly no longer cold brew. just weak iced coffee, at best. other regular customers that I knew noticed the same thing. the sandwiches are also pretty good, as is the selection of gourmet food, but even considering what it is, you will be shocked and horrified by the prices. if you want to spend $30 on small piece of cheese, be my guest, but I'll pass.
