UPDATED REVIEW: After promising, repeatedly, that I would be refunded for the cost of my stay based on my experience below, it never happened. I reached out to the owner -- easily findable -- and he didn't respond until I posted this review and a similar one on Hotel Tonite. After my stay, I reached out to him on Messenger -- he had the option of not answering it but he did -- and then he called me, begged forgiveness for what happened, told me that the young woman server at the restaurant connected to the hotel had been "dealt with" for telling me that the hotel has a known problem with their elevator breaking down. He apologized for it getting stuck, questioned my complaint that the door was not lockable with a deadbolt, and then ***asked me if I would consider removing my review.*** I said "Let's see how this pans out before I say yes." Of course, here we are, end of January, almost a month later, and nothing has been resolved. I wrote to him again, he had the nerve to berate me for writing to him directly, and claimed that parts of my review were fabricated.
This place is a disgrace run by a disgraceful man. RUN do not walk away from it. Here is the original post:
I was here for one night on business, on 1/4, and was happy to escape on 1/5 intact:
Heading out for dinner, I was stuck in the elevator for 15 minutes, alone, intermittently in the dark, before I finally convinced the befuddled hotel workers to call the fire department. Once out, I fled and went for dinner at the hotel restaurant, where the server asked me "oh was it the right elevator? It's always the right elevator...." When I returned to my room (by stairs) I discovered a broken deadbolt: the door couldn't be locked. The thermostat was set at 75 and couldn't be changed. There were no towels in the bathroom, which I discovered when I took a shower the next morning.
On checkout, Alberto, the rooms manager, promised that they'd already refunded my stay, and that he'd be sending me an email containing a voucher for a comp'd night. Neither has arrived, 24 hours later. I don't care about the comp because I'll never stay there again and have my publisher pull it from the Brooklyn hotels list, but I expect to be refunded. Icing on the cake? They put a $250 hold on credit card for incidentals. The Ritz doesn't even do that.
Run do not walk away from this place. Not safe, not safe for women traveling alone. But if you want to get stuck in an elevator, stay in a room with a broken deadbolt, and then be lied to and berated, this place is for you.
