Chicago Costume is The most organized, wide range selections costume store in Illinois! There's a lot to see! Each sections has costumes and accessories that are related to the same theme. So you don't have to walk around and waste your time finding things to complete your costume. It's already in one area. Well organized costume place! (Oh, I already said it!). They have a costume rental too for those who doesn't want to own. There's paid parking around the store. We paid $2.85 for an hour. We never had a problem looking for a parking spot. I went to this location first in search of a face mask for a masquarade party. They had a huge selection and the lady assisting me was so nice. She spent a lot of time with me pulling down various masks. Ultimately my heart was set on a mask I saw on their website which was not in the store. She was so kind in calling the other location to verify they had it. I will definitely recommend this place (both locations) to people. Large selection and excellent customer service!

Drove here with the purpose of surprising my gf with a Valentine's Day mask and surprisingly had a situation with the front end women and the owner that turned into profiling. I used the door bell and knocked and the front end women literally was sitting up front and wouldn't not open the door. The sign said open and I called but no answer. 10 minutes later I get a call from the owner informing me that the front lady identified me as the belligerent customer from yesterday described as a black man in a blue coat and I'm banned from his store. Really???? Note this was my 1st time ever visiting this store. To the owner: you are responsible for your employees and what was done is called profiling. You as the owner did not verify (ie checking the security camera which you admitted) prior to making the accusation and banning an innocent bystander. I totally understand your intent was to protect your employees but Your tact and the way you handled this situation was improper and incorrect. Profiling is a very serious issue and if you or your employees make an accusation like this in the future, please train them on how to verify or validate to make sure they are not impacting innocent bystander/customers.

Chicago Costume is THE best spot to get costumes, makeup, etc. The owner and his wife are AMAZING to work with. They're knowledgeable, friendly and hard working. The old school vibe is so on point for Chicago. They also have a rentals department, and you can order many of their things online. This family owned business is right across the DePaul quad, with street parking available. Walk, don't run to Chicago Costume and support your local small business!

I'm never going to a costume pop-up shop again after going to Chicago Costume. I went on a dance music cruise that had certain theme days on it in January and waited too late to order my outfits online. Enter Chicago Costume to the rescue after looking for someplace not too far away with decent reviews. Very helpful staff inside and the selection is out of this world! There were Roaring 20s & Steampunk theme nights on the ship and this store had such an amazing variety of fun items & outfits to choose for each theme. I picked up a pink wig & unicorn horn I ended up wearing almost every day on the ship and got so many complements on this signature look of mine. I'll keep going back here again and again for my music festival & Halloween costume needs for sure!

I called before making the 45-50 minute drive to Chicago Costume, asking specifically if they had any western-themed clothes for adult women. The woman who answered said yes, they have lots of items, both to purchase as well as rent. Well, when I arrived, there was a very small purchase section for Western clothing - 95% for men. So another associate took me to the basement and there was NO western section at all. After about five minutes, she brought out three vests that also appeared to me for men. Would have been super helpful if she would have told me on the phone that they had very limited options. Would have saved me a trip. The store is full of stuff, but not if you have a western party to attend.

I have been renting costumes and purchasing accessories for my entertainment company for 15+ years now. Chicago Costume has always been most accommodating and helpful. I would strongly recommend these guys for personal, park district, and overall party rental.

A great place for costumes and accessories of all sorts. The staff is plenty, super helpful, and knowledgeable about the costumes they have in stock and exactly where to find them. Whether you come here for accessories to add to an idea of pair for a custom costume, or you want a unique put together costume sexy or funny, or a quick buy costume, or makeup and special effects this is the place to go. I planned a made to go mermaid costume and they had multiple shell bra options, wigs, tons of shell accessories and plenty of make up. My husband discovered the simple fish taco costume and together we were a big hit ha! Definitely plan to make this my go to costume or theme party store. Only wish it was a lil less pricey but definitely beats the spirit stores!

Thank you Emily & Sara in rentals for making yesterday's Halloween spooktacular! I spoke with Sara on the phone a month ago then communicated via email to lock in 5 deliciously adorable adult mascot bear costumes. The delivery and pick-up by Kosta was equally seamless and professional. I never once went into the store but relied on the expert advice and communication provided by Sara and Emily. This place is great! I've lived in Chicago for a long time and never stopped by until today. I only needed one relatively low-cost costume item and the woman waiting on me was really helpful. Even though the store was very busy for Halloween she walked with me around the store, helping me look for what I wanted. She even called the other location to double check. I'm a happy customer and I'll be back!

Needed to buy some costume makeup and tried to call to see if they had changed their hours. Arrived with 10 minutes to spare, open sign was on. Tried the door a few times and they had locked up early. My fault for trying to support small businesses, I guess I'll order online. Since I had taken an Uber to get there we did manage to see a chap leave the premises after 5, but still left the open sign on. I won't be back.

There's a surprising amount of stuff crammed in this costume store. The main level features costumes and accessories to buy. Downstairs is the rental area. Major props for having a huge selection. Chances are, they'll have nearly any costume you're looking for. But if you're looking for quality or a bargain, that's a little harder to come by. I saw some flimsy sequined suit jackets that were $60. They had virtually no structural integrity. They also had a drawer of bandanas for $10 each. Way too high for a small square of cloth. (An employee writes to inform me those bandanas were very long. Whatever. It's still $10 for fabric with a bare minimum of stitching.) But there are some bargains to be found if you look hard enough. Give yourself plenty of time if you're browsing. If you know exactly what you want, I'm sure the staff can point you straight there. As with nearly any costume store, most of the fabric here is on the cheap/thin side of the spectrum. You're paying a premium to come close to your costume vision, but it's not going to hold up under close scrutiny. The guy in the rental area downstairs said the rates vary, but most are $75 for three days.

Just very expensive overpriced cheap stuff with super resistant return/exchange policies so ur stuck...

(side note - I thought I was going to a themed costume party but actually we were all going to Medieval Times the restaurant and I was only one dressed up. Went to get rental costumes for Halloween this year and found some great ones out of their large collection. Unfortunately a few days later, we found out we were exposed to someone with COVID and were forced to quarantine. Called the store and they were extremely kind and offered a refund. Will definitely come back the next time we need any costumes!

The staff is AMAZING! Especially Adriana. Since the store has such a wide variety of fantastic costumes and accessories looking for a pair of white knee highs provided me with a challenge. Adriana put her project on hold so she could personally find the item that I was looking for. Since Chicago Costume is the best place to find the perfect costume. They are very popular. Adriana called the other locations and found everything that I needed. She went the distance providing me with the best customer service which they are known for. The store was also very conscious of practicing social distance and wearing masks. I highly recommend Chicago Costume!

I've been going to Chicago Costume for almost a year now for a VERY costume-heavy show that I produce, and they havenever let me down. Either they have amazing costumes in stock, or they will work with me to build things piece by piece. Aside from the helpful crew in rentals, the retail gang upstairs has always been there in a pinch when I've needed them, helping me find the right tone of Ben Nye makeup to play Ursula or helping find any of their various wigs and makeups. If you need to get 'stumed up in Chicago, there is no better option than Chicago Costume.

This is the place for your costume needs. My only gripe is that it should be so much bigger and have so much more stuff. The basement is a real treasure. I had no idea this place was around. So much time wasted at those pop-up shops during Halloween.

In a year I go incognito a lot more than the average furry does so Chicago Costume is quite clutch. No matter what the occasion they've got almost any type of outfit for either rental or purchase. Prices aren't that bad considering the quality that they're carrying, and the friendly service is free of charge as well. They let me use a phone charger for about 15 minutes while I decided between a Liderhosen and Bavarian bar wench costume. As you would assume it can get a little hectic around Halloween, but any other time of the year it's probably the best place to pick up an alter ego.

This placed was packed with holiday shoppers! I was immediately greeted and made to feel welcome when I walked in. A few seconds later, I was asked what I was looking for and walked over to the section that had my costuming needs...the team member didn't just point and say "down there". The team member also inquired what I would be needing the wig for and offered some info and suggestions for additional pieces to my costume. The associate also asked if I knew the proper way to put on a wig and offered me pointers on keep the wig fixed and secure. I can honestly say that this was on e of my best all-time shopping experiences!

The kids costumes in the back were a bit picked over, but when my eight-year old got a hold of his very first chainsaw (prop), I knew we would have a great time just looking around. I was first introduced to this shop last year when I needed a fun animal costume for an event I was attending. My kids had such a great time coming with me to pick out my sexy raccoon get up, so we decided to have a city costume adventure this year and brought them in to check out all the cool costumes and props. Though some of them are a bit on the grown up or *naughty* side, the stop here is worth the trip from the North Shore. There is absolutely something for every age here. And, take note, the costumes are well made - not like grabbing something from your local party store. You will pay for quality here, but it's truly worth it. They also have a costume rental department, so you might be able to go that route too. Aside from just costumes, you'll find all the props and accessories you need to pull it all off. Stockings, bling, hair dye, spirit gum and special make up. And, the staff is super helpful, fun to chat with, and they really know their stuff. Happy Halloween everyone!

Got my costume from them 2 consecutive years! Good stuff and the staff is very helpful. You can either buy or rent your costume which is great. Do not wait until the last minute....get your asses over there before 10/31....it might be crowded

Let's go over my costumes that I have gotten at Chicago Costume over the years: 2008: Wolverine full costume with foot long metal claws / Immortal from 300 2007: Zorro 2006: Roman Legionnaire with three foot long shield 2005: Samurai outfit with Kabuki theater mask and twelve pieces of armor This year courtesy of Brandie T, I will be Link from Legend of Zelda. Despite her expert costume designing skills, I still needed accessories lest I ask her to learn how to mold plastic and become a blacksmith. Needing the right weapons for my Halloween costume, I contacted Chicago Costume and asked them if they had the proper shield with that Hyrulian crest from the Legend of Zelda. I was disappointed when I was informed that they didn't have the shield, but was more than elated when they told me they would custom order it and sent me a link so I could look it over. After rolling over to Chicago Costume, I was able to grab my custom ordered Hyrulian shield, the proper swordbelt to strap a three foot long sword on my back, and a blonde wig along with pointy ears to play the part of Link for Halloween. Whenever I head into Chicago Costume, I am amazed by their selections and always secondguess myself and want to be something else for Halloween! They had great costumes from Watchmen, the Karate Kid (which I would have been, but I simply can't go Halloween without weapons), and of course the Michael Jackson outfits, my favorite pop star of the 1980's. If I had a pooch I am sure I would grab one of their dog costumes and set my poochie up right! The rental section downstairs carries a robust rack of metal swords, heavy armor, and some toy pistols that I am always tempted to try out. If I wanted, I could have been Chewbacca or Boba Fett for Halloween, but this is so a Star Trek kind of year, which explains my Spock ears that will be counting as elf ears.

Chicago Costume has wonderful employees and the best selection of theatrical makeup and costuming accessories on the Northside. They have a huge stock of Mehron, Ben Nye, Cinema FX, and other professional brands that hold up far better for costuming and photoshoots than drugstore or Sephora brands. Even better, the people who work at the makeup counter are genuinely knowledgeable and kind -- one spent more than twenty minutes helping me find just the right Mehron cream shade and sealant for my purposes. Little secret: sometimes if you ask nicely, you can buy a styrofoam wig head from them if they have any in the back.

I really love Chicago Costume shop as a local go to whenever I need costume rentals. I have rented mascot style costumes such as Buzz Light year for a child's bday party, but also purchased costumes here for halloween. The rental / mascot costumes are really good quality and are a huge hit for our events. The prices are competitive. Also important to not that they have a really large selection of types of costumes. Their pick up policy for rentals is also great because it is more flexible than some other rental companies in the area. They are always my first stop when I need a costume.

Great selection of any and everything costume related! I needed an Elvis wig on short notice - not something I've ever said or written before - and they had like 4 options. Helpful staff and tons to keep you occupied if you're going without a plan for what you're going to grab. The outdoor area is a bit on the cold side, but it's a small price to pay for extra costume real estate! Note: The most expensive thing they have there is a Sauron helmet that will run you $500 - apparently they sell a few each year.

She was so helpful picking out the right costume that not only complemented my shape but also fit my upcoming party theme. There used to be an advert on TV saying. "Phone first. You'll always know." That is what I did. I phoned first. It was a waste of time and energy and money. I called yesterday asking for - what I thought - was a petty simple costume to rent. I am looking for a Ralph Kramden costume. Kate in rental said it would be no problem. She gave me a good price. She said come in tomorrow and ask for me and we'll get it set up. I walked in this evening and asked the young lady behind the counter if Kate was around. She said, "Yes. She's downstairs." She politely walked me to the staircase. Upon descending the stairs - i saw a young woman sewing. "Are you Kate?" I asked. "No, I'm Emily," came the reply. There was another woman behind a computer. "Kate's not here," that woman said. The second woman was none to happy that I had actually walked into her place with the intention of spending money. Now before I go any further - I want to point out that I am not petite. I would not be looking for a Ralph Kramden costume if I was built like Ed Norton. Emily and the other woman did a google image check to get a few ideas about the look. The other woman - a gloomy soul - kept saying it would be difficult because the hat was going to be impossible to find. She was really focused on the hat and the knowledge that they wouldn't find it. In the meantime Emily scurried back and forth bringing our military jackets and other types of jackets that were not even in the ball park. The ones that might have been workable were for a nine-year old child. She could look at me and see I couldn't use those jackets as an oven mitt, but she kept bringing them out. Then they got the bright idea to call their "warehouse" except they couldn't figure out the phone. I just walked out. 90 minutes of travel time and looking at wrong jackets time wasted. $2.00 in the meter wasted. Gasoline wasted. What did I get for my attempts to become a customer with this business? I got a headache. I will never return there. I will never send people there.

My husband and I have been here twice, and have loved it both times. First, we were hired to entertain crowds at a Game of Thrones beer launch event. I make my own costumes (Mother of Dragons, yo!) but the husband needed some armor to be a Faceless Man. The people in the downstairs rental area were PUMPED. They seemed genuinely excited to look at pictures and piece things together. My guy was very happy with the look he ended up with. TRAGEDY STRUCK. Literally during the party while wearing the armor, my husband started feeling feverish. He ended up in the ER with CRAZY pneumonia a few days later. We obviously missed the deadline for returning the gear to Chicago Costume. When I finally dropped it all off, they didn't even bat an eye about the tardiness. Thanks, guys! More recently, I needed several pairs of tights for some upcoming gigs. A gentleman at Chicago Costume literally dragged a table over to the hosiery wall. He invited me to pull tights down, stack them on the table, and otherwise make a mess of the place while I made my choices. I cleaned up after myself, of course; it was just nice to feel trusted. In the end, I've started choosing Chicago Costume over Fantasy Costumes, when I can. Even though Chicago Costume doesn't have as many wigs and hats as Fantasy, the people have been way more helpful and accurate with their knowledge. Win!

Chicago Costume is my new Nordstrom. Forget designer handbags and snooty b*tches at the makeup counter, I'm trading it all in for latex animal masks, faux facial wounds, and slutty pickle costumes... which are apparently a thing... and by 'apparently' I obviously mean 'thankfully.' So I'm throwing this big-ass bash with a few coworkers of mine tonight and it just so happens to be animal themed... and by 'just so happens', I actually mean that if they didn't agree to do that theme I would've pitched a major fit and probably gone all Bridezilla on their asses until I got my way. Luckily, we were able to avoid all that nastiness since they're both pretty easy going and I'm a stubborn ass... which is also a costume they sell here, in case you were wondering. So I perused their website a little before going in, but found myself having a bit of a tough time searching for what I needed, mostly because I really wasn't sure myself. Then I walked into Chicago Costume and it was as if the gates of heaven opened up and their light shone down upon me... in the form of about 100 different species of animal masks made of latex, rubber, and plastic. It was both glorious and life changing as I've found myself growing tired of applying makeup to my mug whenever I go out into public and want to be acknowledged as a normal human being who does a moderately decent job of hiding what without makeup looks like the face of the old lady landlord from the movie Kingpin (#TRUTH). But now, thanks to Chicago Costume, I've come to realize that I don't need to wear all that make-up to look human... because human is boooring and I'd rather be a beast instead. So now that I've discovered Chicago Costume, I'm excited to upgrade from high-end make-up to latex masks made to look like a hippo, rooster, fox, gila monster, ewe, fly -- you name it, I can be it (Like this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=92TNIIbaBOo)... which works out great since I've never really taken much to humans. Besides the costumes and selection, the prices are on point with what you'll find to be the lowest pricing on Amazon.com and the staff here...Whoa! Hot tamales! If you're partial to alternative-y girls with orange hair like I am (obvi), this is THE place for you.

You have 2 days left! Go, run, get there quickly! I went the other day, as I was wavering on my costume choice. I thought, "yes, rent something." And, I did have a lovely time playing dress up downstairs. The sales associate was very helpful, picking out lots of different costumes, fun accessories, etc. Basement: rentals. Upstairs; Everything else that you can buy and KEEP. I think the rentals are a good deal. Better quality, for the same price as buying something. Yes, you need to bring it back...but let's face it, are you ever going to wear a Halloween costume twice? NO. TONS of flapper dresses, Elvis jumpsuits, and period/era costumes! Also, included in the rental price are all the accessories to pimp out your costume. $100 deposit! Nice shop, cool people, excellent selection (even the week of!)

I know what you're going to say, I'm too late for my Halloween review. Which is true, but Chicago Costume does more then just Halloween... Christmas! Need a Santa outfit? Need a Sexy Mrs. Santa outfit? Additional fabric needed for regular Mrs. Santa costume. Elf wear? Dirty Elf wear? Many, many costumes for themed Parties and Masquerade Balls. They even have lingerie and a naughty section for those fun nights. Hellllooo naughty fairy!! Plus they carry all the accessories and make up necessary for you costume. As for Halloween, Chicago Costume was smart enough to rent out space in Andersonville for a month. Their selection was pretty big (the dirty girl section was a bit out of hand) and the prices were awesome. I hope they do that again next year!!

So, I visited the temporary outpost of this shop located at 11 W. Washington in the Loop. I went at a good time, I believe (around 11 a.m.) and was promptly greeted by a friendly associate. She helped me acquire the perfect costume accessories, and I had fun browsing the other costumes for a bit. Well-organized and the prices seem fair. I was able to get out of there for $35. I did drool over the animal costumes and wondered it it was worth it to me to get the ladybug costume for my cat. Sadly, I passed. I only torture him like that for $10 or less. Guess he gets to be a bat or a devil again this year. Sorry, Ox! No refunds, so make sure you really want what you're buying. P.S. I heard it through the grapevine they are open 'til November 2. Ya know, for those of you who might be shopping for next year too.

Star Wars... Nothing but Star Wars... The dulcet tones of Bill Murray filled my head as I wandered outside where the overflow, including helmets, armor, and weapons, are kept. They have a ton of Star Wars stuff, from Darth Vader helmets to full face masks. This is in addition to a range of weapons, from scimitars to machine guns, plus the occasional gorilla suit. And again, this is just the outside area. Inside, it's a madhouse, especially the week of Halloween. The store is smaller than I expected, so people are crawling over each other to get what they need. And since it's only a couple of blocks from DePaul, and those kids are unaware of anything but themselves, expect that people will walk right into you and not bother to excuse themselves. (Note: They also particularly humorless. One kid said to another, "Hey, I think you dropped your box of blood." I replied, "How often do you get to say use that line?" No response.) But the selection is great. In addition to full costumes -- for sale or rent -- they have a ton of accessories. Wigs, hats, masks, makeup -- you name it. And the staff, which should be nuts by now, is amazingly knowledgeable and helpful. I asked about an accessory I needed, and the salesperson knew exactly where it was. despite the fact that they had only 3 in the store. That's service! Best of all, they're open year round. So if you need a realistic severed head some time other than Halloween, you know where to get it.

I did a Yelp search for "Ben Nye" cosmetics, and Chicago Costume showed up. I purchased a Ben Nye eyeshadow at a shop in New Orleans, but haven't seen this line anywhere in Chicago. Unfortunately, the Ben Nye line is behind a glass counter and cases, and you have to ask for assistance if you want to see something. Behind the glass, the cosmetics weren't displayed that well, so I couldn't see everything. The other display cases were also glass and roped off with a string of flowers. I know I'm stronger than fabric flowers, but I'm not an asshole (at least while shopping), so I wasn't going to cross any barricade, flimsy or not. I don't like asking for assistance unless I am at least 75% sure I am going to purchase something. The two employees weren't super busy, but since I wasn't looking for a specific item, I just went on my way. I liked the variety of masquerade-ball type masks. Some were as expensive as $80, but they were decked out with bling and other details, and much more sturdy than the cheap cardboard ones. Lots of costumes though year-round, and a better selection than those crappy, seasonal Halloween shops.

This place has nice people and solid accessories. I was disappointed that they did not have most of the costumes I was excited about on their site, though I should have called before making the trip. When I got there, they only had one costume for my theme and it didn't fit. I had to settle for some accessories that were overpriced. When I got home, one of the ears on my headband practically fell off just coming out of the package. I shouldn't have to superglue a headband that came with leggings for $27. I'm betting this place is way better around Halloween.

The folks at Chicago Costume are awesome. We were taking our clients to Medieval Times and thought it'd be fun/hilarious to surprise them with renaissance costumes so Chicago Costume came through big time with their amazing selection of costumes for rent. The team at Chicago Costume helped us pick out perfect costumes for a dozen of us using only our heights, genders and full body photos. We stopped by the shop on the way to Medieval Times and we were able to get alternates for the costumes that didn't fit. They were fast, patient with our last minute back and forth, and hooked us up with a sweet group rate. On top of that, the costumes were so nice, detailed and quality. Thanks so much! Our clients loved the surprise and it made our experience complete!

This place is a life saver and above all super amazing. Great customer service and super nice people. And THEY OPEN ON TIME!

Yes, I'll admit it. I have a problem, but I will never accept an intervention. I am a Makeup Junkie..... I will say that I am also not a MAC snob, as I certainly won't purchase soley their line even though it's one of my favorites for their broad range of pigmented colors. True makeup fiends will buy from low end, high end, drugstore and counter, and as I've recently learned, theatrical. Chicago Costume was the first place that came up when I Yelped Ben Nye. I called there to see if they also carried Graftobian, but they didn't yet. Either way, we were on a mission to check to see which Ben Nye products they had. Erin, the owner's wife, was the makeup guru here at this costume store, and she patiently waited as we swatched and tested all the foundations. She gave her insight as well as her favorite products from each line, any dupes that she has found better, and any tips on applications. She also was very interested on our insight on the products they currently carried and ones that were on our wish list for them to have as future inventory. What was sooo refreshing was her very laid back sales approach. Unlike department store makeup counters, they'll try to close you on a product making you feel like you left a car salesman at a Lexus dealer. First time purchasers of Ben Nye, we were quite surprised at how affordable the products were. Literally a fraction of the price of high end makeup lines; but just as affordable as drugstore brands, only much more effective. I've already generated a list of other items that I'm calling her about, and hoping to buy in the near future for my collection!

The minute I walked into the store I was greeted by a very happy employee. She took the time to help me find the hair color spray I needed and even looked on line to see if she could answer all of my questions. All this time and effort for a $4 can of hair color spray. I am a customer for life with these people. Thanks for giving me your time and a smile.

Thanks for being right off public transportation. And thanks cute girl who checked me out for being honest about waiting for the five o' clock onslaught to come down around her.
