A great place to play chess, especially for just $5 per hour. The person at the reception was kind and welcoming. I had a misunderstanding about the payment, and he handled it with complete honesty and fairness. It’s rare to see such integrity.

This store is one of a kind ! And worth a stop for any chess player.
After watching a Youtube video about the store, I took my son to play and we met the friendly owner and chess enthousiasts, we endended up visiting again the next day for free kids lessons.

My favorite place in the city. A true gem for the chess community in NYC. I love spending my weekend afternoon here with my kids, meeting with other chess players.

Really special place tucked away in the village. Cozy and artistic atmosphere that tells you you're getting the real deal.
You can walk in and people will be willing to play with you or teach you if you're a beginner.
Got a bit rowdy, but if you're passionate about chess, this is THE place.

This place is awesome. About 8-10 playing tables, awesome chess sets for sale. My 9 y/o got a few games in with a few kids and left with a good book to up his game. He felt like Norm at Cheers. DC needs a spot like this!

Happened to walk by and found this place really interesting! The front is a shop that sells very diverse and special chess sets, some historic, some architectural, and some funny pop-culture ones.
It looks like there's a chess club in the back of the store, but I didn't venture in.
It was pretty crowded when I stopped by on Saturday, maybe there was some sort of club activity going on. This place has a lot of potential, Great spot for chess lovers!

Visited bc this place is famous for all things chess. The owner and staff are very friendly. My nephew loved playing chess with the ppl coming in and out. It’s really like family. Love the history of this place. My nephew wants to go to NYU so that he can play chess here every day lol. We went two days in a row and we are going for another two days in a row again. My nephew LOVES this place. His mom bought him the Fischer chess pieces. It’s exquisite! Bought the mini chess set and practice set too. His chess collection got bigger and better!

What a coooool shop, would not want it to be any other way. I had not been in the city in a few years and went in here today for the first time. Unsurprisingly, it reminds one of another long gone chess shop that used to be nearby. I did not have time to stay and play a couple games but would love to do so on another visit. Thank goodness there are still places like this in the city [or anywhere!] We need them.
