Google
Enjoying their delicious halal chapli platters from their truck shop in floralpark from last few years. Our most favorite is beef chapli and their green sauce. Fries are good too. Only downside is they only take cash.

When the price goes up and the quality goes down, then it's time to update the review on Aug 09, 2024 @ 3pm. I've been buying these platters on a regular basis for a long time but I absolutely did not like what I received today. The beef chapli had no taste and were painfully dry. The pickled veggies, were replaced with regular boring salad. I bought 3 platters for family and it was a disappointment. Unfortunately, every time I go, there is a new person preparing the food so hopefully he just need training. I bought the platters home and decided to take some photos. I gave 5 out of 5 for service because the guy was nice.

Google
The food was good. I had the chicken & beef platter with white, green, and kicker sauce. I loved the fries all mushed with the sauce. Friendly guys, and gave me an extra kabab just because. Will definitely come back to try it with a wrap next time. It's truly worth the hype around the area!

Google
We went back to Ny for two months now, and we'd been hunting for a good Halal... and thank god for our friend telling us about this food truck... We love it so much our 4 kids love it too. The portion is lot it feeds 6 people.. We love it so much, definitely going back there again. 5 star 🌟 🤩 for sure!

Google
Hands down the best Chapli platter ever had. Beef Chapli was an absolute treat! Highly recommended..!

Google
I had this place when it first opened up and I wasn’t a fan. The meat was just dry and brittle. The fries were soggy. It was disappointing to say the least. But after a long time I decided to give it another go and it really was good. Fresh and flavorful. I will say the guys in the truck aren’t too friendly. Zero emotions or interaction. Which is all good as long as the food is good.

Google
This food is truly exceptional, with every bite delivering a burst of flavor that's both rich and satisfying. The ingredients are perfectly balanced, creating a harmonious dish that is as visually appealing as it is delicious. The quality and attention to detail in the preparation make it immaculate, showcasing a level of care that elevates every element. If you're a fan of amazing culinary experiences, you should definitely come try it — you won't be disappointed!

Google
The food was good when they first opened. It was actually incredible when they first opened. The staff is nice. The portions are now small, the food is mediocre, at best. I came back after a year and had high expectations as the food was great before but I was disappointed 😞

Dorna N.

Yelp
I'm drooling just thinking about this place! The meat is just so perfectly seasoned, this was a phenomenal find for late night eats. All the sauces were also so perfect and delicious. Unfortunately, they were out of their hand cut fries that night, so I'll definitely have to return soon.

Yelp
This is a great spot if you're craving halal food from a cart but want it slightly elevated with a different mix of flavor. Plated nicely, busy crowd and attentive staff. There a few carts around and usually a crowd of men closeby in this ethnic hub area so I appreciate when the staff are attentive of each order and helpful. My parents have made Chapli kabab at home from scratch too! It's nice to try and have available. Sauces are great.

Anika I.

Yelp
The chapli and chips served a great amount of food compared to its price. The service was great and their food was on fire. Loved the food and the service would go back again

Hasna D.

Yelp
The food is fresh and taste yummyy! Workers were friendly! The only issue would be sometimes parking, so if you're in a rush just park across the street.

Mitasha P.

Yelp
This food truck has well seasoned chapli kabobs. I ordered the beef, but I think the chicken chapli was better. For only $12, you can get a platter with salad, Afghani rice, 2 chapli patties, fries, and very thin bread. I would prefer if they gave naan, instead of the thin slices they provided. You can also choose 3 sauces. I highly recommend the hot sauce (if you like spicy) & their signature kicker sauce. The service was excellent. We got our food in a timely manner and the guy even gave us extra sauces on the side. I would suggest eating this right away as the fries do become soggy for all the sauce.

Mohammed H.

Yelp
Been eating here at least once a month. But I'm surprise that today 6pm, July 10th,2024 I ordered 3 combo platters and the food was like a nightmare. Staring with sauce, at 6 o'clock they don't have sweet chilli ? Then with chicken patty, taste like from yesterday, you can taste the meat, rotten, taste sour. (Attached picture) Rice was burned, and couldn't separate with fork. 40% of the space is filled with salad. Please do better, with the price of the platter this is robbery.

Yelp
Wow - one word to capture this place: FRESH! This place is getting some well-deserved hype and I was very happy with everything in terms of flavor, service, texture, price point! BEEF CHAPLI PLATTER Gotta mention how freshly fried these french fries are and even though they are doused with sauce, still maintain a good, nice, crisp and potatoey texture. I did wait only 10 mins before digging in. If you wait longer that may not be the case. These large beef chapli are hearty, flavorful and for those unfamiliar kind of give me smash-burger vibes but better seasoned and not as rich/fatty so you won't feel like a mess after. The sauces pair amazingly well, the rice is fluffy and good quality. I was a very happy boy eating here and would totally eat here again . The owner was chatting up the customers and cleaning the truck while people were waiting in line and was super personable and friendly. You can really tell he cares about the business. After ordering it took no more than 5 minutes to get our food on a weekday around 1230 pm. I wish this place all the success.

Kanika B.

Yelp
Been meaning to try this truck for a while and finally did after taking a good long walk on Hillside Ave. I tried their chicken chapli wrap and it did not disappoint. For $9, it's a huge wrap: chicken chapli (ground minced spiced chicken kebab) on a thin wrap, loaded with lettuce, tomatoes, cucumbers, pickled onions and cabbage, french fries and white sauce. Service was great and the young guy was able to let me know the size of the wrap etc. I will definitely come back to try the rice platter and their kicker sauce.

Samah I.

Yelp
I so happened to be in the area and had the pleasure of trying out the beef Chapli platter. You can choose up to three sauces and boy do they have a lot. They put alot on top and also have the option of having some on the side. The bright pink orange sauce (the kicker) is tangy and lemony and personally don't really enjoy that kinda flavor but on the platter it was good. Their sweet chilli is really good and you can't go wrong with white sauce. Everything is made to order and thus takes about ten min to prepare. The fries are cut by a machine in the cart and depending on the day can be crispy or floppy. Personally, I don't mind either so you never know what you'll get. They were featured as one of NYTIMES best restaurants of 2021 which I think is absolutely deserved given the quality, portion, and variety of items you receive in a platter. It's a melding of both Pakistani and Afghan style chapli kababs which I think is so special. Don't forget cash! They're cash only!

Yelp
DO NOT PASH ON THE PASHTUN FOOD One of the newest trucks to hit the hillside scene is painted black like hell, but the flavor they serve shines bright like the heavens. COMBO PLATTER $13 Get it. Soooo good. 2 pieces of their eponymous chapli kebabs: juicy, charred, and bursting with spices served over a bed of soft rice. The fries (i.e. 'chips') are not your typical crispy fries. These are cut long and are a bit soggy, but in a good way. I like them. It's actually one of the favorite parts of the meal for me. They could add a bit more chicken since it's technically a combo, but I usually don't mind since the kebabs steal the show. Make sure you also get it with KICKER sauce. That's what truly elevates the meal to another level. Certified HALAL (for my Muslim friends). WHAT IS PASHTUN? Chapli & Chips is considered Pashtun cuisine from the Pashtun people - a mix of Afghani and Pakistani influences. This was new to me until I realized one of my favorite dishes of all time is actually Pashtun: Kabuli palaw (not served here, but you can get a phenomenal one from Sami's Kebab House in Astoria). Also - CASH ONLY. Good thing it's parked in front of a bank... HOURS OF OPERATION They're there every single day, I believe. They park around 6ish PM and are usually up and running by 7PM. There will already be a slew of people on their phones waiting by (that's how you know it's good). The food comes out relatively quick. tl;dr --- OVERALL ADVICE Skip the $8 chicken and rice on hillside & littleneck and wait the necessary 10-15min for THIS instead. You won't regret it. Recommended: Combo Platter w/ White Sauce and Kicker Sauce

Sid S.

Yelp
The worker pushed me to get a combo platter and then I only get served beef (missing the chicken chapli ). I was the only person there so how can he screw up a simple order and charge me full price??! High prices, tastes decent, a bit over hyped. Not sure if it's Zabiha halal.

Kalashouz K.

Yelp
Amazing food and good service for a reasonable price, I can eat this everyday lol for real, everything is freshly made I love that part,

Monica H.

Yelp
Holy YUMMM!! If you're ever in this part of Queens, plan to stop by this truck and order a plate. Just a heads up, there's always has a line so expect to wait at least 20 minutes after ordering to receive yours. Had to wait about 40min for my order because the line was so long and it just kept bringing in the influx of large groups of hungry folks. Maybe you'll get lucky and the line may be minimal at your arrival. Definitely a little pricey for the quantity of food, but everything has been steady more expensive for all of 2022. 12 bucks for 2 mid size chaplis, rice, shirazi salad and fries so I chalk it up to quality, indulgence and inflation ‍. All the food is certified halal and so delicious. My go to are the platters - both the chicken and beef chapli's are very tender and well seasoned. On days that I can't make up my mind, I'll go for the 2-way platter so I can get a taste of both. Also, the fries are literally the freshest as they chop the whole fresh potato with an industry grade stainless steel chopper manual machine right in the truck (wow ) and then fry. Highly recommend for a guaranteed yummy meal.

Yelp
After reading up on the NY Times hype, I finally got to visit this hidden food truck gem in the heart of Hillside, Queens. This is not your standard halal platter. They specialize in serving the Pashtun-style kebab or Chaplis, which is better quality spiced meat patties (Beef or chicken varaints). I highly recommended going all out and buy their platters ($12 CASH ONLY), which they served with a bed of their flavorful Afghan-style rice, freshly cut side salad, alongside freshly cut potato fries (hence the Chips in their name). If you're grabbing it to-go and not eating asap, get the sauces on the side, so you don't get the platter soggy. They have a wide array of sauces. I recommended the standard trifecta (White sauce, red hot sauce, & their special Chipotle Kicker orange sauce) as the default. If you're feeling open, the green sauce is also very flavorful with herbs & spices. This might be hyperbole, but this is the best damn Halal truck in Queens as of late. Definitely puts Halal Guys to absolute shame!!!!

Zia Jamal Z.

Yelp
Mashallah, fresh, that's the word that describes a plate of awesome from this place l. The combo platter with white sauce and kicker sauce is to die for, with some extra chips, you're on your way to go

Alishbah S.

Yelp
I drove about a half hour for this place. We got beef chapli kebabs over rice and 4 different sauces (white, red, green, and kicker). I'll start off with the sauces. White was good, just like your typical halal cart white sauce. Kicker was basically a spicy mayo but it was too sour for me I think they added lemon. Red wasn't that great, I've had a lot of good red sauces from halal carts and afghan restaurants but this one had a strange chemical taste to it. The green on the other hand tasted nice and fresh. The pita chips were a disappointment. They were soggy and almost even doughy, like you're eating a piece of undercooked pita. I don't know why they were even there tbh. Fries were a huge disappointment. You could tell they were homemade and handcut. But unfortunately you could tell they were made a while ago. They were greasy and soggy. Not fresh at all. But the masala seasoning on it tasted good, these fries had a lot of potential had they been made fresh. In terms of the platter, the rice was perfectly cooked and very flavorful. The beef chapli kebabs were moist and well seasoned, I could even taste the cumin in it. However, I felt like they weren't salty enough for me, by the time I added sauces you couldn't really tell but if you ate a piece on its own it lacked salt. Also there was a hair in my food and a chunk of something else idk. Kinda off putting Overall, it was good. Didn't blow me away. Wouldn't come all the way next time. But if I'm in the area I might go again.

Jonaith R.

Yelp
One of the first to try it when they opened up so unless they dramatically improved, do not see what the hype and line is about since the food is okay at best and the price is laughably high for a few patties and cute salad items. The sauces were good but nothing to write home about. If you're curious and dont mind the randomly long lines, try it but be ready for mid.

Halal N.

Yelp
As a Pashtun myself, I'm always on the hunt for authentic Chapli kababs. Thankfully, I came across the hidden gem in the eastern edge of Queens! Food: There is a no fuss, simple menu here. It's either platters or wraps and a bunch of toppings to go along with it according to your liking. I opted for a rice platter with chicken and beef kababs with fries, sherazi salad, and their homemade sauces. The red sauce is PHENOMENAL! Service: Man, the owner Karim Khan is so kind. He actually told me his goal was to bring the taste of authentic Chapli kababs to NYC and attempted to get it as close as possible to the real deal back home.

Sofia C.

Yelp
Yummy tasty food I always go there for really yummy chapli. There salad makes the platter even more flavorful

Ashween S.

Yelp
Amazing food truck, the combo platter is really good. Really delicious and must try place

Durre M.

Yelp
Worst worst worst custumer service ever!!!! The short guy was super unprofessional. Did not listen to the instructions at first when my husband tried to tell him later when he went to pick up the food he started being rude and said "we don't have free food for you and u can leave the food here and leave" eventhough my husband went to pick up the food and pay for it. Later on when i went back he started yelling at me too and said that" i dont have any food for you" worst ever experience, and all this happened in front of my 4 year old son which was very disturbing for me. Will not go back to this place ever again.

Danesh I.

Yelp
Simple concept, flawless execution. This little cart is packing big flavor and I'm glad I happened to be in the area and got to try their delicious food. Chapli kabobs are Pashtun style minced meat patties originally from Peshawar in Pakistan and one of my favorite styles of kababs since they tend to lean spicy but are also very juicy. The menu here is simple and your decisions will consist of determining whether you want a wrap or a platter, chicken, beef, or veggie patties (although they only had chicken and beef options on my visit), and the sauces you want on top. I opted for a mixed combo with a chicken and beef chapli kabab atop delicious Afghan rice, with some salad and fries, all doused in white and kicker sauces...defrigginliscious! If I had to pick one over the other, I actually liked the chicken, which is surprising because I don't typically like ground chicken. In this instance, the chicken was flavorful and not dry at all. I figured the fries wouldn't bring much to the table since they were more than a half hour old by the time I got to dig in, but despite not being super crispy and crunchy, they went nicely with all the other items and their texture wasn't too bad either. The gentlemen working the cart was extremely friendly, kind, and gracious and offered me a free bottle of water. I turned down his offer because I want Chapli & Chips to sling their meaty goodness all over the Borough and open multiple locations before offering freebies! Quick, easy, and delicious, this is one food trans I hope takes off and proliferates closer to home!

Chris C.

Yelp
Wow what a secret gem! Located right on a main road with tons of parking the food truck is everything you hope a good halal meal should be. This is top quality with the nicest service and the food truck is the best atmosphere since you don't need to dress up. The food is AMAZING. I recommend getting the combo with white and BBQ sauce and if you like a little spicy go for the kicker sauce. You won't regret coming here, I promise!!

Mike C.

Yelp
This is the tiny cart Pete Wells just reviewed for the Times. Amazing food at a crazy low price, just pick whichever protein you like the most (or get the vegetarian one) and enjoy one of the very satisfying platters for just $8. The wraps are also great for just $6.

Jeffrey S.

Yelp
Was hoping to be the FIRST to review this place! Technically I can say I am! I first ordered here on June 15 and it tasted WAY different than your typical chicken over rice stand! Chapli and Chips has a unique and mouthwatering platter that you will love, I have never tasted food like this before and it's incredible! I went again yesterday for the platter, get the white sauce and orange sauce (Kicker Sauce) super awesome sauce! The two guys that work there are real polite and attentive, it's always a pleasure getting food from there!

Shreya M.

Yelp
Tastes fresh, quantity is perfect and very straightforward menu. I also love that there were different sauces to choose from, but I think it would make sense if the Kicker was the spicy sauce as opposed to the red sauce Best to come to the cart exactly at 6:30 otherwise it's a wait!

Weiming L.

Yelp
Referred from friends. We arrived at 630p and there wasn't much line. We ordered the chicken and the beef. To our surprise, the beef wasn't hard and chewy. It was tender and good. We specifically asked for the sauce on the side. We had the white and the kicker. The seasoning used was spicy. It was good but we had Better halal' food. There's also a phone number posted so you can order in advance .

Cyril P.

Yelp
Honestly one of if not my favorite Halal platter spots! It's not your typical chicken and rice. It's Afghani Chapli style which was new to me. I usually go for chicken but here the beef is way better - tastes almost like seekh kebabs. They load you up with fries and some salad and your choice of sauces - I would go for white and whatever the orange sauce is. It's like a chipotle mayo. Usually parked in front of the Capital One on Hillside.

Ali N.

Yelp
Chapli & Chips Platter Lettuce, Sherazi salad, picked onions, house slaw, fresh squeezed lemon, house sauce, hand cut fries, with your choice of protein over Afghan rice and 1/2 piece of pita bread. Chapli & Chips 257-03 Hillside Avenue, Queens, NY 11004 Review: (4 out of 5 Stars) The first and only nyc food cart that prepares fresh halal beef, chicken, veggie Chapli Platters and wraps. I got the Beef Chapli Kabab platter. Fine ground beef mixed with finely chopped herbs & vegetables mixed with spices and cooked to perfection. It's Freshly made to order, different then your average chicken and rice, sauces are amazing, you get French fries in your platter, and the staff are friendly. Don't forget to say Bismillah and go try this out.

Kelda C.

Yelp
The meat texture and flavour is to die for, the salad is super fresh, chips seem to be handmade, the rice just tops everything off. I recommend going light on the sauces so the flavours of the meat can shine. $10 for combination. They open at 6pm but usually prep for first 30min, but I would get there early as is gets REALLY busy, people know what's up and where the good stuffs at. ;) eat it as soon as possible or the chips go soggy

Deepak K.

Yelp
Excellent service, excellent quality food time and time again. Fresh Chapli's on the spot, a neighborhood staple. Zabi and Muhammad took care of me, big shout out to them.

Eddy V.

Yelp
Definitely one of the better halal street vendors. Huge portions. High quality long grain rice. Yummy sauces.

Abbas H.

Yelp
Very fast and courteous. Plus it is a tasty twist on the common gyros you see at every cart. The fries and sauces are delicious as well.

Farhana H.

Yelp
Food here is sooooo good. Kababs with ruce, such a simple concept diff from chicken and rice. Before tasting, thought it would be whatever. But the kabas is packed with flavor. Sooo juicy and soft and good! Cant believe I didnt try it sooner. And its halal

Goga P.

Yelp
This place is a gem. I went here in the middle of the night on Christmas Eve. There was a decent line. I was really impressed everything was made fresh. Hand cut fries freshly made definitely hit different. I had beef chapli platter the Kababs had a lot of flavor without overwhelming spice like half these other spots. If you want something more spicy I'd suggest you ask. The brother in there working hard to make sure everyone is taken care of. I tipped him 10 bucks he tried to give it back to me! Love supporting truly authentic humble places as such will be back soon.

Talia M.

Yelp
Not a fan of the meat but the rice fries with salad is amazing!! Always my go to halal food

Syed A.

Yelp
Extremely tasty Beef Chapli kababs. You'll definitey come back for more. The guys were very friendly and quick to make the platter.

alamin h.

Yelp
This used to be one of the best places. Now it's the worst. I placed an order, and told me to wait 15 minutes. I asked them after 30 minutes and they gave me attitude. They even gave my order to someone else, and I was waiting all along right in front of them. Will never come back again. Food is still good, but service and attitude is gone down.

jus d.

Yelp
Food is great but the light skinned younger man who takes the orders sometimes constantly messes up the order and will argue with you when you ask him to fix it despite it being his mistake aside from this one guy who I've had to ask fix my order on multiple occasions would definitely recommend

Mary A.

Yelp
A game changer! Chapli kebab served fresh and hot from a cart?!? The Chapli kebab is pretty authentic itself but definitely got an American twist with the fries and the sauce. Very filling meal 10/10 for creativity and giving halal guys competition I love living in NyC where you can absolutely find anything!

Anonymous K.

Yelp
I really love this place. It's my go to when I'm in hillside. I like the sauces and the fact that the chapli kebabs are made fresh. Would recommend

Samir N.

Yelp
I have been hearing about this food cart for a while and been meaning to try it. Today I was finally able to, I took the drive out to queens and it was so worth it. I have been in the mood for some good Chapli kebab, and I've tried them in the NYC area for years, so far this is by far the most authentic and best tasting Chapli kebab I have tried. I tried both the chicken and the beef Chapli kebab platter. It comes with brown rice, kebab, salad, French fries and some small pita pieces. A very generous portion for $10. You can also get a half & half platter. I must also add that the gentleman working in the cart was very friendly & professional. They have a few different kinds of sauces, I only tried the white & the chipotle spicy, both had good flavor & the spicy one had a nice kick to it. I will def the adding Chapli & Chips to my regular food rotation and I highly recommend it.

Hamza H.

Yelp
The best cart food ever really, I've had cart food all around NewYork and this one has to be the best. The food is always fresh and the quality of the ingredients is top tier. The meat, the rice, the fries and the salad all taste clean, natural and fresh. The wait can get long but it's worth it because the food always tastes healthy and nutritious and the workers work hard to satisfy every customers needs! Hope to see them grow more and more! I would definitely recommend trying them out!

Leeba B.

Yelp
This was pretty interesting. I liked the concept a lot. The only problem I had was the price. I don't think it is worth 10$ for cart food with 1 piece of chapli kebab. The taste wasn't bad at all. But I don't know if I would be back because it is a little too pricey for what you get. The sauces were definitely tasty. Hopefully the price goes down to 6$ or 7$ then I would say it's worth it. Chicken and rice carts give you way more meat than this for cheaper. Also the guys that work there have long beards and none of them wear a beard net or hair net. What's up with that. We not trying to eat hair. Please hygiene first.

Shahbaz K.

Yelp
Brother made it with love, best part is freshly made Infront of you and even the potatoes are cut and fried fresh no frozen gimmicks

Hanif X.

Yelp
Love the food. Specially those spicy sauces they provides. I always go with two way combo. Comes with beef and chicken. And add white, hot, green, kicker sauces.

Talha A.

Yelp
This is the best cart on hillside avenue, hands down. Love the fries, orange sauce and mixed chapli platter. Delicious. Huge portions and well priced, long lines on the weekend are worth the wait!

Ali A.

Yelp
Very fuck up place, place a order the guy said wait 10 mins after 10 mins wait a other 15 mins, the guy said he run out of food but you served everyone else that came after me just say it you didn't want to served me, watsup yall some little and don't call me my brother you a if yall some to say, say to my face

David A.

Yelp
Was cruising Hillside late night. 1st trip was good . Got the chicken chapli platter, filled the bill. Dude was cool.
