"And after partying in La Roma, I always head to Ricos Caldos de Gallina Luis the next day. Their specialty is one of those homemade broths that's filled with peas and rice, and can cure a hangover like no other remedy."

The best handmade tortillas! Also this chicken soup literally cured me from feeling ill. For less than $5 usd you just can’t beat it. I’ve been told that this particular Caldos de Gallina “Luis” is the best of the chain. And they are open 24h!

This was our first stop in Mexico City after our flight! Coming into town with a cold definitely didn’t bode well for a long journey and the caldo de pollo hit the spot. My fiancé still dreams about the tacos here. He got the carnitas or the aracherra tacos with chicharron on top and I got the caldo de pollo pierna (thigh). There may be better caldo spots in the city, but this one is easy and quick and the service is great! You can’t beat the price either. If you’re a newbie in CDMX and staying in Roma Norte, come here first! PS. Don’t forget to bring TP or wet wipes with you for the public bathrooms nearby!

Simple, delicious, cheap. Came here feeling slightly unwell from all our travelling looking for some comfort, and we got it. I had the chicken soup with chicken breast and liver, it was delicious. The table condiments added to the soup were great. This was the 3rd caldo de pollo I've tried in Mexico and by far the most enjoyable.

Flavourful chicken soup on a cold rainy day. Quick friendly service and fair prices

My wife got sick & this was the perfect comfort food to help her feel better. Amazing chicken soup, made with hens for richer flavor. You can eat in or order to go. Open 24 hours, super inexpensive. A classic!

Google
Came because my friend highly recommended this place. However, the chicken soup here was nothing special and didn’t have as much umami or flavour I expected. Worth stopping by if you are in the area and craving for some hot and comfort food. Not worth going out of your way for this.

Google
Really comforting chicken soup. Enchiladas are not exactly what someone from the United States would expect (just saucy folded tortillas with chicken, cream and cheese on top) but is also delicious.

The caldos is a must! As well as the mole negro enchiladas. Convenient, quick and cosy

Yelp
the food here is great! prices are great as well! avoid the quesadilla unless you are really hungry as it's large and really a meal on its own. the enchiladas here are not your typical rolled and are smothered in green/tomatillo salsa which has just the limit of acidity before becoming overwhelming. the chicken soup here is truly the star and is the reason why this place has a line every single day. top the soup how you like with the topics on the table. be sure to line up along the wall towards the corner restaurant/bar and be visible to the staff so they know to grab you at the next available open table.

Yelp
My husband & I happened by this spot while walking around Roma at lunchtime & it was packed! We sensed the good vibes & grabbed a table outside. We both ordered the steak tacos. This was the best taco I had in CDMX. My hubby got some broth as well & it came with the biggest, fluffiest corn tortillas I've ever seen. They were delicious. This is the taco I will dream about. Did I mention that the tomatillo sauce was !!!

Yelp
I came here for dinner on a Saturday night. They are known for caldo de galllina (hen soup basically) and popular among locals. I wanted to try their pierna (dark meat) caldo. However, they were out of everything. They only had chicken liver or sweetbreads left. I ordered the sweetbreads (thymus or pancreas). The caldo had chickpeas and rice. It also came with freshly pressed tortillas. The tortillas were so good, better than the caldo but the caldo was prety good though. The broth was flavorful and the sweetbreads were actually tender. I noticed that some locals were able to get pierna so clearly if you can speak fluent Spanish, you can get everything haha.

Yelp
Caldo de gallina con pechunga: Delightful chicken broth with fresh chicken, chickpeas, and rice! The spicy sauce is too smokey for me. Adding the onions, lime, and a couple chillies made the broth even better! The tortillas are pretty tasty as well. I want to try the rest of the menu. Looks like the mole enchiladas and bread are also popular!

Yelp
We had just finished a pretty large brunch and were far from hungry and were taking a leisurely stroll down Insurgentes when we turned a corner and ran head onto this packed sidewalk of small tables and stools...I mean wall to wall packed. You know the rules, if its super busy w locals, you stop. We all ordered a couple of orders of Enchiladas de Mole and posted up at a table. Staff was great and made us feel right at home...but the standout was the Mole! Definitely a standout Mole of our trip, and absolutely worth putting onto your list of CDMX street food.

Nathalie G.

Yelp
This location is literally on a sidewalk. The Gallina is a female chicken FYI. We got the Mole which was spicy and delicious and I got a quesadilla with mushrooms as I was waiting for my dad to reply to what a "Gallina" was haha! The service is quick, the place was okay it was open.

Yelp
Delicious hearty chicken soup! This soup was tasty and fueled us after a day of exploring. Service was friendly and I liked the huge bowl of onions for topping!

Elizabeth H.

Yelp
@davidchang made us do it and it was so worth it! @caldosdegallinaluis This is the best chicken soup I have never had. You need to make sure to get the dark meat but it is really the broth, the spicy salsa that you can add and that this is their main thing. Soup, soup, and more soup. We got enchiladas and they were good, the verde sauce was tangy and just a little spicy. But the soup!

Yelp
Best Mexican chicken I've ever had. Comes with fresh tortilla, cilantro, lime, onions and salsa

Yelp
Great local neighborhood spot if you are into chicken soup. The broth was delicious as were the tortillas they served. Just very tasty comfort food

Yelp
A good friend and work colleague stopped over here for lunch today, while we were checking out some areas in Insurgentes. This restaurant probably had about 15 tables inside and out on the sidewalk, and every table was occupied. We waited only for a short time until we got a table. Thankfully they had an awning that pro used a little protection from the sun. I ordered the two enchiladas con mole, while my friend was even more brave. He ordered the rabadilla chicken soup which to me seemed a little raw. I knew for sure that it would not have settled well with my stomach. This little diner is very fast paced, and our Server was practically running between tables. I definitely appreciate slowed, and my enchiladas con mole were very good.

Yelp
Fantastic chicken soup at ~$3 usd which came with a side of warm tortillas. Order the pierna (dark meat)! Best comfort meal I've had in a while.

Yelp
I have really bad FOMO when I travel, so I really enjoy eating street food. I got a lil bit of food poisoning at one of the carts and went 24 hours without eating... This place was a life saver. I think chicken soup is supposed to be good for an upset stomach. It literally healed me in no time. I got the soup with rice and chicken breast. 57 pesos!

Yelp
One of our last, and favorite, meals in Mexico City! My boyfriend was sick (with the flu!!!) and we were looking for something light and not too spicy. This was PERFECT. We ordered the chicken soup and green sauce enchiladas. Chicken soup has rice, chickpeas, and is super light but flavorful. It came with about an ENTIRE loaf of bread. We topped it with cilantro and lime. The enchiladas were very, very filling and super delicious, but ultimately we were obsessed with the chicken soup. It really felt so different from American chicken soup. Ok, so the food was incredible, and the added bonus was how great the service was and how calming the ambiance was. It was clear that only locals / Mexicans were there for lunch. It wasn't crowded but definitely busy and had a constant stream of people coming in for a meal. The server was super sweet and amiable and even though there was a definite language barrier (we aren't that great at Spanish), he was very communicative and helpful.

Yelp
BOOM! When you get home at 2am and want a meal, there's more choices than the 24/7 La Casa de Toño. I don't even know how I found this place as the pin was in the wrong spot, but I did find it. I wasn't in the mood for the soup, which is I guess the star attraction. Got the enchiladas verde for around $3. Super fast and delicious, ate the whole plate before heading home and going to bed. If you don't mind your restaurants hole-in-the-wall'y, go here.

Amy R.

Yelp
This is NOT chicken soup, it's Turkey broth. TURKEY BROTH. Not chicken soup. I asked for caldo de pollo, the waiter said....yes....so I ordered for take away. And then I was disappointed to the fact that these people use turkey broth instead of chicken broth. That would explain the different color and how cloudy the soup looks, and the weird flavor. I for one, did not like it. For the people that thought this soup was "such a different flavor from American chicken soup"; I think that you have no business writing reviews when you cannot even tell the difference between chicken and turkey flavor. I won't return. I was disappointed and frustrated and felt like the waiter was full of sh*t.

Yelp
OK, 4 stars from me is a 5 star from most people. Great spot, no frills but great chicken soup. A large bowl with a chicken leg (muslo) sets you back about $2.35 ($42 pesos). Comes with rice, garbanzos and two large freshly handmade tortillas. Never tried them, but for roughly the same price you get a huge plate of enchiladas with either green sauce or mole. Place is open 24/7 365 days a year. It's right near the Insurgentes Metro station.

Yelp
Great local spot for enchiladas and a comforting bowl of homemade chicken soup. If you're sick and need a hot bowl of soup to make you feel better - this is your spot!
