Café Deadend on Postcard

"Café Deadend, Sheung Wan Upper. Secreted away in a quiet dead end (get it?) this place isn’t easy to find but it’s definitely worth looking for. The focus is on homemade high quality ingredients with a coffee shop-style menu. Everything I’ve tried here is exquisite, the sandwiches, soup, salads, cakes, coffee. It’s rare I deviate from the smoked salmon bagel and spiced apple tart though – so good! The B.E.L.T. sandwich comprising of bacon, egg, lettuce and tomato is incredible too. The breads and baked goods come fresh from Deadend’s adjoining bakery counterpart, Po’s Atelier. Also, there’s a lovely outdoor area to take in Hong Kong’s (polluted) air but take note there’s no table service here."

The French toast with cinnamon was amazing, and if it was only this and presentation I would score this place very high. The poached eggs were however not so great. Though it looked great and ingredients were nice, the egg itself had already cooled down when it was served and the hollandaise sauce tasted a bit weird and buttery. Coffee was oke, but the latte macchiato was more like a cafe latte. Also be aware that you can only pay by cash here.

Just had a fantastic break fast sandwich (BELT) with a lovely brioche like bun, fresh eggs, bacon, tomato, and a hollandaise sauce. The service was excellent, very kind, accommodating to my dairy allergies, and anticipating my every need in a refreshing way. I recommend going after 12, when I went it was empty so the service was right on. Will definitely come back and was worth the trek.

Nice little cafe. Great food, even better coffee. Good location as it's away from the hustle and bustle of the city. Staff are friendly and accommodating and leave you to your own devices. Would definitely come back.

Update: So sad to see this place is closed. Had great food and coffee. This is a great little coffee shop / cafe. The coffee was excellent but the food was way better than expected. I've added pictures of not only what we ate but what the next table over had. Yes, I asked to take pictures of their lunch too. Lol If you get a chance, definitely give it a try. You won't be disappointed.

It's a nice environment for sure, but this place has poor service and terribly small portions. I waited an hour for this kale salad (something about not serving some items until after 12:30) and this was the entire portion for HK$105. It's just $5 cheaper than the bacon bun. Super overpriced and a frustrating dining experience. Other cafes nearby for better value: Cupping Room on Po Hing Fong, Lof10 on U Lam Terrace
