The reason why they are so expensive is cause there is nothing else in a 10 block radius, order delivery from saint Embreuse is cheaper. After reading the amazing review about the food quality I need to add that it’s above average for New York City super market but the bar is very low.

Cute store. Came for frozen yogurt, left for a million cakes and bread. Their flavor of frozen yogurt is very selected. I can’t come here anymore because they don’t let you bring your 3 pound dog in a purse or stroller (haters).

there’s a reason this place has a cult following. the BEST market on the upper east side. the best place to pop into if you want to grab a quick bite to eat or set up for a picnic to take to central park. the have so many varieties of pre-packaged and fresh pre-made food. good bakery section. large cheese and meats selection. sushi is so fresh. coffee is delicious. been coming here for years and will keep coming back anytime i’m in the area

They got a bright , clean space filled with Fresh produce, yummy desserts , and variety of lunch and dinner options. Treat yourself to frozen yogurt or enjoy a hot chocolate. Cozy store, great to-go food and they do good coffee!

Hot chocolate was okay don't believe the hype online. What made the hot chocolate was def the marshmallow. Only sipped on it a few and tossed it out. Service was decent. Ambiance was alright expect to sit outside on a bench.

I love Butterfield market! Whenever I need a pick me up sometimes I just walk here to go inside and take in the atmosphere and grab something to eat or drink. The baked good, bagels, coffee, frozen yogurt are all so good and just reliable everytime you want to come. They have a great selection of specialty goods in the store and you can find something new everytime that you come. The place is always extremely clean and the service was really quick even if there is a big line in the store. Highly reccomend coming by and just walking around to see if there is anything you like!

My all time favorite NYC market to stop into. If I lived in the city I would be grocery store broke!! They have such an amazing variety of everything. Fresh made meals. The deli is the best. Baked goods galore. Fresh flowers. Fresh juices. You name it. The setup is perfect. Everyone is super helpful and friendly!!

Pricey little market with lots of specialty goods. Reminds me of Dean + Deluca before that closed. I expected it to be bigger and have a more expansive selection of certain goods; for example I wasn't wowed by the oils and vinegars. Collection of tinned fish wasn't anything better than you'd find at a Whole Foods. Lots of prepared foods, some of which seemed much more reasonably priced than others. For example, hefty sandwiches were in the $11-$13 range while one side of rice and peas was $9.50. Sushi was reasonably priced and looked well made. There was also a made-to-order panini area. The outdoor window serving frozen yogurt seemed popular. Prices were in the $6-8 range depending on size. None of the flavors were anything interesting. Overall it's cute and maybe worth a stop if you're looking for a quick thing to grab and eat in the park (it's about a block off of Central Park) but I'm not sure I'd make it into a destination.

Inside is very boujee, all the groceries and prepared food are extremely overpriced. We got the famous frozen yogurt here... coffee and plain flavor. It is a window counter on the outside. Plain flavor was better, coffee had a strong coffee flavor, but overall very refreshing. A bit watery though, so wouldn't say it's better than other froyo places I've been too.

Love their selection of red meat it's actually red not red brown lol. Clean and neat shelves and floors. Usually well stocked , the weekends can be hectic though because it's so busy, the most wanted items like bakery goods are best to buy in the morning.

--Location/Parking-- Located on the Northwest side of New York. I stumbled upon this market while walking down Madison Ave. --Ambience-- A cross between a small Publix and a Whole Foods compacted in a small space, but bigger than a typical New York bodega. --Service/Staff-- The staff was very friendly, and I asked if I need assistance from many of the friendly employee. There were employees for every department in the store, from the coffee shop, meat station, etc. --Food/Products-- You can find various traditional American grocery food staples here, and various packed products for you to grab and good. Everything looks and is made fresh within the market. I was trying to choose from so many options. --Capacity-- Being this is New York. The space was tight. My bad I felt got in the way in walking around the market. If you are aware of the tight space, this is normal New York style, but is bigger than a bodega. --Overall-- Great quant market that would cater to all your needs and I can see from the locals that they enjoy strolling in and relaxing there for coffee or a leisure Sunday morning.

I had to come back because it was that good!!!!! I finally got the pistachio drizzle and it honestly tasted like heaven. I didn't care that it was cold outside because I already had a plan to eat froyo today. Butterfield Market has the best plain yogurt in the area and the pistachio drizzle made it 10x better. It doesn't take long for the dessert to come out and there is ALWAYS a line, so grab yours quickly before it becomes even more popular.

A true gourmet market, pre prepared, prepared foods, fresh produce, artisan cheeses. Decadent desserts. Fresh coffee and drinks! Something for everyone! On the pricey side friendly staffing. !

This was my first time going to Butterfield Market. There was a large selection of items in store. It was very busy with little walking space. The reason I am giving it this rating is because the price tag on the Dark Chocolate Espresso Beans was incorrect. It was listed as $5.99 on the packaging but it was $8.99 at the register. When I asked the cashier they were dismissive. It was busy so I just let it go. I don't mind the $8.99 price, however I wish the pricing was correct on the label and to receive better customer service. There were also other items that I looked at that didn't have a price tag listed.

I'm going to come out and say it: I don't get the hype. The desserts are good. But if you're not there by a certain time, they're out of a lot of choices. And I'm not talking about visiting like 20mins before they close. I'm talking like several hours before closing, out of certain items and no attempt to replenish or restock. Then there's the prepared foods. You live in NYC for 10mins, and you know there is a huge market for prepared foods. They get points for good sushi and seaweed salad, dumplings. But like I said, they run out of things hours before closing, and well, guess you're on your own kid (lol). Everything else I'm just baffled with. I've gotten things like veggie fried rice (nasty AF), penne a la vodka (way overdone with parsley and why??? Parsley isn't even good), and just I don't know...and it's wayyyyyyy overpriced. The sushi is at least reasonable which is like - what?? In this town? And I mean, they close way too early in an area that desperately needs a market. So let's recap: overpriced mediocre food, run out of the better items well before closing, and if they're out of desserts what's the freaking point? Their staff is really nice though. That's all I got.

The Butterfield Market is an absolute gem on the Upper East Side of Madison Avenue. I used to come here for a quick lunch when I was younger and only started to appreciate its grandeur as an adult. Not only does Butterfield add to Madison Avenue's charm, but it also serves as convenient place for an afternoon pick-me-up. Whether it be for an iced coffee and frozen yogurt on a hot summer day, or stock piling on fresh ingredients for your next home-cooked meal, this is the place for you. It's usually pretty packed but the line moves fairly quickly. Among the bustling people and the bright atmosphere, there is so much to explore. My favorite areas are the vegetable and fruit section along with the sushi! I was pleased to see they had extra wasabi and spicy mayo on the side. I mainly came here to try their frozen yogurt. I'm so happy to have discovered this frozen treat unique to Butterfield, because it was a delight! It's probably one of the best frozen yogurts sold in the city, at a reasonable price too. I'm excited to come back her perusing the Met for some coffee, which I have yet to try. :)

Enjoyed coffee-flavored frozen yogurts here with a friend last week. The vibe was upscale yet chill, and we enjoyed sitting outside on their lovely benches and people watching. This is an ideal outing, on a hot July day in Manhattan. The staff members were efficient, friendly and kind; and the frozen yogurt was sweet without being too sweet. I felt both cooled off and nourished by it afterward. We both commented on how, even though their yogurt isn't marketed as particularly healthy/organic, etc., it feels very light and natural...no digestion issues or chemical aftertaste is left in the body. Highly recommend, y'all! If you find yourself on the UES one day, it is worth checking out. And - if you're really determined to get fresh air AND fresh yogurt (in one hang), then make your way up to the UES; you won't be sad, if you try out this place on Mad. : ) Best, Katherine

Kind of late on the review but I stopped in here a couple of months ago for some hot chocolate after hearing so many good things about it I had to check it out for myself and it was awesome!!. I also grabbed some cookies on the way out all of which were delicious/amazing!!. Can't wait to stop in again!.

My coworker who's from New York stated he knew of a great place for lunch. The Butterfield Market, is in walking distance from the Metropolitan Art Museum (great for bus parking). I walked in and WOW, I was excited like a kid in a candy store. As I'm walking around and snapping photos, I must have appeared like someone important journalists ( I am but you get what I'm saying lol) because John the Produce Manager approached me and started telling me about the store and origin of many of the fruit. Because I was looking at the strawberries he excitedly began to tell me about the Harry Strawberries in particular. John explained they were the best in the world and all his produce was imported. He further explained, his produce was picked at its ripest directly out of the vineyards. Particularly, people from all around the world come just to buy the Harry's Organic Berries. He says, to prove it to me he offered me one. Now I'm from Houston, Texas a big City, I like great fruit and know which brands to stay away from. I look turned my nose up and asked for it to be washed off. No says John, Harry's Berries you don't wash off theses strawberries they are intended to be eaten right off the vine which has no pesticides. Because he said it, I believed him and must try for the experience I tiny whinny bit into it with my teeth and immediately the juice exploded on my lips and in my mouth, down my chin. Strawberries are a natural aphrodisiac and I immediately felt it effects. SOFT and amazingly melted on my tongue. No need to chew I surped that berry, took my tongue licked as much and all I could on my lips and fingers. I took my finger and retrieved what juice was on the corners of my lips. CHRIST!! All I could think was, I bet the rich and famous serve these strawberries dipped in chocolate at their events. So, I picked me up a carton and ask how much? $25, he stated. I kept my poise and with as much class as I could declined. Directly underneath them was peaches and nectarines, I inquired about them same thing the best money could buy. He picked me out one of the perfect peaches and on to the deli area I went. I ordered a Turkey sandwich without the mayonnaise for my lunch. I choose a freshly squeezed bottle of orange juice and had a pleasant lunch with my coworker outside the Met Museum. I would like to nominate The Butterfield Market as a must visit Tourist Attraction. LAWD, I could only imagine what a watermelon would taste like.

Mixed feelings about this expensive UES chain. Their stuff is spendy, the quality is variable. Their salads, wraps and roast turkey are good. The produce is nosebleed inducing. The two killer things that are worth the up charge is their salmon fillets and their Thanksgiving turkeys. They are consistently, perfectly cooked and make entertaining easy.

One of my favorite prepared food/gourmet markets in the city. I follow them on IG and they always have amazing looking delicious food and treats. They even sell my favorite ice cream from Caffe Panna. They have a flavor of the week and its always something yummy looking. I have had the Asian Chicken Salad and its really good, they give a generous amount of grilled chicken in it and the sesame dressing is delicious. The store is clean and bright full of a lot of produce, a pizza counter, frozen yogurt and a lot more. Everyone there is helpful and friendly. I love that they carry a lot of treats from bakeries around the city and even outside the city. I purchased this addictive snack mix there and its practically gone so I'm planning to stock up on another container of it. I want to try some of the other prepared items there, the turkey cranberry sandwich looks good. I just wish they would deliver small amounts on like Door Dash or another app. It is a little expensive for some things but the quality is there. Definitely worth stopping by if you're in the area.

Came here for the soft serve and it was delicious! We were in the neighborhood for The Met and wanted something sweet. Not being much of a fan of the rolling carts or food trucks we tried to find a brick and mortar store. What a great place this was! It is obviously very popular with locals as well as it was packed and the line to get ice cream was long but moved quickly. They offer many tempting flavors. Everything we tried was very good! Peanut butter, chocolate, and mango (not all at the same time!).

I LOVE this market! I visit nyc frequently and I always try to plan my day around a trip to this market to grab a little treat or quick snack. The market is more upscale so I don't expect a cheap trip but some things are still too expensive for me to splurge on. Over all I think they have a great selection and good service.

Way overpriced. Catering to the Upper East Side entitled elite. STALE point of purchase "holiday chocolate" consisting of a tiny bite - $1 each. Port Salut cheese $22/lb. had a distinct taste of insecticide throughout. St. Andre $29/lb. - same problem. Sleeve of Carr's Table Water Crackers $7! 6 oz. package of Driscoll's Raspberries $11.50. Prices do not match the quality of the food purchased. Salmon Avocado roll was OK - each piece $1 at $10 for a small package. Even if you have a trust fund - - do you want your guests to taste insecticide flavored cheese? 8 items $65. Ouch. With inflation like this - you're paying their rent - not for what you bought. Or maybe to be seen there. Still shouldn't cost that much.

Best bagels in Manhattan, and they have a truffle cream cheese that is spectacular. I love to stop here before or after a trip to the MET, and get a smoked salmon bagel with truffle cream cheese.

This is one of my favorite markets in New York City! They have two locations, but their Madison Avenue location is the larger one and so they usually have more options. This is the location I usually visit. I call it my food paradise, because there are so many awesome foods and products that this market sells. From extremely fresh and great tasting produce all the way to sweet and delectable desserts, Butterfield has it all. My favorite section is the bakery because there's so many amazing desserts there from so many awesome businesses throughout the city. I also love that this is a family owned business, so it feels very welcoming and inviting all the time. Also the staff that works there seem like they genuinely like their jobs because everyone just seems nice and friendly and willing to help. If I lived closer I would definitely be frequenting here weekly. Love this place! All of the items you get are worth the price point because you are getting what you pay for which is quality.

I tried the froyo and there are 4 flavors. I asked whether I could get multiple flavors and you can although not sure if you can get more than 2 in a cup. It's not a swirl so you can choose any 2 at the very least even in a small cup and the portion size was sizable and the $5.50 price worth it. All in all, the original was the best, tart in the right ways. The coffee was a tad too sweet and the peanut butter a little too decadent. The chocolate was rich, but it was overwhelming after a few bites.

Gourmet grocery store that also sells prepared foods and has a good bakery section. Stopped in for some treats after a trip to the Met. Only place in Manhattan (I believe) that carries the Comfortland rainbow cookie cake, so I had to grab some of that. Cruller was also decent, though I didn't think it was amazing as everyone -- including Dan Levy -- says it is (maybe it was an off day). Better crullers are to be found at Daily Provisions and Doughnut Project, imo. My friend also got a tub of mini cookies; they were sort of dry so I'd skip those. TLDR: get the rainbow cookie cake!

After discovering all of the sweet treats butterfield has to offer on social media my husband and I decided to shop around. The sweets they have are amazing! Cookies, cakes, cupcakes, breads and more! We are huge cookie fans! We bought 4 cookies. They were absolutely delicious, moist, soft and yummy! $5.50 is a pretty steep price but butterfield is far from where we live so we binged and got a lot. We also got a brownie, the monster cake, a slice of chocolate cake and banana bread. We've only eaten some cookies, the brownie and cake so far. The banana bread was $12.99 and the cake was $12. I love that small businesses bake these items and we supported them. We spent a pretty penny on these treats...definitely not a place we can go to very often but if you love sweet treats and want to treat yourself you should definitely go! If money were no object we would try every treat!

This was giving me strong You've Got Mail vibes and I loved every second of it. Food seems a bit over priced but you're in one of the ritziest parts of NYC and it's probably worth it.

I have been eyeing this place for ages. especially fan girling over their Instagram. finally decided to come down, all the while knowing it would be a premium price. even knowing this I still was shook at exactly how expensive this place is. single slices of crumb cake were nearly $20 and small pints of cooked spinach and mushrooms $11. I was a bit scared to pick up and purchase anything without a clear price on it. I ended up just getting a few specialty sweets and a slice of spinach pie. The cookies were all six dollars each but were pretty tasty along with the donut i got. the spinach pie wasn't that great. I had really hoped they would have some more local premium ice cream which I would've definitely thrown down for it but they didn't at the time I went.

Butterfield Market on Madison I've been shopping at Butterfield locations for many years. I always find something delicious. They are not only a very good bakery but they also provide catering and sell prepared foods at the Market. It is a great place to go in for hot soup, coffee, and pastry. It's best for me to get prepared food to take home. They have a long history in the community. The market on Lexington has been there years. This new location that just opened on Madison has more space for more delicious foods. This new Market is very close to my apartment. You're sure to see me there frequently. It is a little pricey. They have items I don't find elsewhere so it's worth the cost. I Highly recommend you visit. It's close to Central Park and many Museums too! What's not to like about shopping on Madison Avenue!?

This is a new branch of the Butterfield on Lex/78 which has been around for years. They took advantage of Dean and Delucca closing down and have taken over the large corner space. Inside is very light and airy, and has a European feel. Despite the size this is not a supermarket, they mainly have various deli style counters, bread, cheeses, milk, lots of salads, sandwiches, fruit & veg, coffee and pastries, and some flowers. They also have a quick service window at the side along 85th, mainly for ice cream / frozen yogurt but you can also get some sandwiches / drinks there. It's a great place to pick up morning coffee and a scone / croissant, to take away, walk to the park, or sit on one of the benches outside. You can't do a full shop here, but if you just need a few things for lunch it's a good local option. It's on the more expensive side, but I guess you are paying for the location.

Delicious Hot Chai Latte, it has a rich chai mix with an aftertaste of lavender. The Croissants are so soft and fluff and I made sure to grab a big chocolate chip cookie for snack!

Love this place- wish there was a location in Brooklyn closer to my apartment! They have sooo many great options to choose from, my favorite being their pastries and fun desserts. I also love their pre packed salads and sandwiches, Caffe Panna ice cream and sushi! You really can't go wrong, and I'll definitely be back for their famous froyo!

CLUELESS staff who had no idea about customer service when I visited for an iced coffee. I asked for a small decaf iced coffee And wound up paying about $9.00 For it. The coffee was weak and I brought it to their attention. The barista then asked if I'd like them to make it stronger, and I replied "yes absolutely" being very delighted. Except for the fact that the other barista then told me to pay an addiction $4.00 after I already just paid about $5.00. While I am not concerned about 9 dollars, I was definitely irritated by my experience and will not be returning there.

Really love this spot! Love that their local and always have seasonal items and speciality like their goodies/sweet treats and like that they collab with other restaurant & brands on their "chef table" section. Everytime I stop by here it's always so many new times and I Literally want it all! Definitely check it out ! Plus love their lox! So fresh

I can't say enough about the Butterfield Market on Madison Avenue. I don't know what I did before they arrived on the scene. I don't cook, and this store is a godsend. I used to shop occasionally at their smaller outpost on Lexington, but there is no comparison I love the space, the quality and variety of Butterfield Madison's selections, and the order and cleanliness of the market. Management is very vigilant overseeing the operation of this Butterfield. They are always in the store watching and fine-tuning the displays, helping customers, and guiding their employees. (The people who work here are getting some serious training, an education from the Ivy League of specialty food management and hospitality!) Yes, the store is pricey, as many reviewers point out, but I'm happy to cut back a bit on how much I buy, and to sacrifice a bit of quantity for quality of this caliber. There is something for everyone at Butterfield...The grab-and-go section; the prepared foods counter; fresh fish, beautiful flowers, produce, pizza, made-to-order sandwich specials, and the baked goods are stellar. People rave about the coffee and frozen yogurt, but I have yet to try them. As for my favorites: The best chicken pot pie in New York, bar none. The stuffed peppers, quesadillas (and other Mexican dishes), Cornish hens, quinoa salad, kale salad, plank-seared salmon, smoked salmon, tuna, chicken paillard, sandwiches, fruit cups, salads, and sushi....to name a few (LoL).

Best grocery store sushi on the UES. Maybe even in the entire Manhattan. Get the frozen yogurt too! Bougie but so worth it when you need a treat.

This is a really nice deli and cafe with decently priced pastries. You can make your own cup of joe w their push coffee dispensers or get one made for you by their barista. Lots of packed salads and sandwiches. There's not eat in chairs so you just grab n go and they pack this store w a lot of stuff for a typical lunch or dinner.

NUTELLA RUGELACH Butterfield Market carries some of the most diverse and delishhh sweets from small businesses all over NYC, which makes it the perfect spot for those in search for some top-notch desserts!!! These sweets are not just your "average" treats but they are next level delishhhh , such as their famous Nutella Rugelach Although, these look like mini cinnamon rolls, they taste nothing like them (trust me ) but rather like a mini filled croissant. Super flaky, a bit crispy, these nutella rugelach make for the perfect bite-size treat.

Absolutely loved it! They have a lot of amazing options for desserts, which was the original reason for me going. However they have many other types of foods too. Really loved the ambiance and the outdoor seating.

I love Butterfield so much but I can't go too often because I'd probably be twice my size. They have sooo many products from amazing bakers and makers all over the 5 boroughs, on top of their own products as well. I really love that the owners support other small businesses that way and it makes them stand out from other markets in the city. Every time I walk in, I know I'm going to have a magical experience browsing for new treats and grabbing old favorites. You can get a coffee, beer, a pound of lox, fresh produce, ice cream, you name it...all in the same place. It truly has something for everyone. The staff is always helpful and patient as well so big shout out to them for keeping the market running.
