Burts Hotel

Burts is a reliable, friendly family-run hotel which we have visited often. The rooms are comfortable and the bar is always buzzing. The restaurant serves tasty dinners. Breakfast used to be there too but is now in the warm bar. |My only wish for something different would be the ability to serve myself from a breakfast buffet - but that would only be possible in the restaurant.

Enjoyed an overnight stay at Burts & it was an excellent experience. My room was spotlessly clean, very comfortable & the bathroom though small, was brand new & well presented. The food was delicious (dinner & breakfast) and all the staff were friendly & helpful. Great on all counts. I’d happily recommend Burts

A great stay, friendly staff, high quality rooms and bathroom, loved the cooked breakfast, best haggis I can remember. Air con in the room but not used. Only negatives were fruit salad tasted stale (although looked fresh) and the wait time for breakfast on two of the mornings was on the slow side. Would definitely stay again.

This hotel pretends to be dog friendly, let me assure you it’s not. I stayed here as part of a larger group taking 4 rooms and the experience started the moment we arrived. Reception staff were rude and extremely unwelcoming. We arrived a little early and thought we would ask if our room was available yet, not a problem if it wasn’t. Well, you would have thought we had asked for a room upgrade, free drinks and demanded the kitchen be opened immediately to feed us. It went downhill from there. We felt that just being there was an inconvenience. The lady on reception later went from seemingly inconvenienced to downright rude later in the day. The only exception to this were the bar staff, they were pleasant and accommodating. Reception staff could learn something from them. I will not be returning and, if you have a dog, would recommend looking elsewhere.

My Husband and I met friends in the Burts Hotel on 10th Dec 2024. Our food was outstanding presentation and great value for money for good delicious food.|The Staff were fabulous very attentive polite and left nothing to chance.|This is going to be our getting together place from now on.. Well done all, you did a fantastic job excellent customer service.. and delicious food!

Always enjoyed going here for lunch, have been going for many years - Today what a disappointment- 2 of the group ordered battered fish and chips - slowest service ever and the waiter appears with 2 over cooked breaded haddock - fait acompli, to change would have meant another 35 minute wait - I ordered soup it looked like tinned , OK taste but tepid - had to remind them it came with bread and butter- they brought it but no knife to spread the butter - seriously the burger was good I was told as was the steak ciabatta - Based on previous visits over the many many years. Spent 2 nights here and it was an absolute joy. Lovely and clean. Staff were very nice and friendly. Had a meal in the restaurant on the first night and it was beautiful, I had boeuf bourguignon and my husband had venison both were cooked to perfection. The breakfasts were lovely and good not having to serve yourself. It was lovely to be pampered. Enjoyed sitting out in the garden having a quiet drink soaking up the sun. . Couldn't fault it at all and will definitely be back if we are in the area again. It was right in the centre of Melrose and within walking distance of the Abbey and other attractions. Having private car parking also was very handy too

Came to Melrose to do some fishing in the Tweed and this hotel was recommended by one of my guides. Great little town and great inn. The room was comfortable and clean, the bathroom was well appointed and the shower was great. Staff is super friendly--they treat you like you're a guest in their home. Check in and out was super easy. A great place with hikers and other outdoor adventurers all over town. Now keep in mind--there is no lift--you will have to carry luggage upstairs. There is also no a/c but the weather in this part of Scotland rarely requires it.
