I used to go to Burnside for lunch when my office was nearby and loved it. Returning for the first time in about a year, I was shocked when I got home and saw the size of the sandwich I paid $17 for. It looks like it was made with the very end of the loaf. I know times are tough but it’s really disappointing to see the dip in quality and value.

😭😭😭 Burnside has recently undergone some changes due to change of hands and the sandwiches have gone extremely downhill. This is now what the beloved Burnside chicken sandwich has come to. They now use smoked chicken which not only looks raw but also had the texture of ham and smells too smoky when you put your face near it 🤢 I literally couldn’t eat it. The bread also tastes cheap and they don’t even toast them anymore. There’s just no love in any of it. And if this isn’t all bad enough, the prices have jumped from $11 to $18, which hasn’t even been communicated to customers. I definitely had a shock when I looked in my account. Customers, particularly regulars who have been supporting Burnside for years deserve better. Shouldn’t fix what’s far from broke.

Sometimes I wonder what attracts people to some of these places,particularly when what they have on offer is horrible. Well, maybe it is just my opinion, but when I was waiting for a tram early one morning I noticed that this place was absolutely packed. I ended up going over to road and ordering a coffee, namely because tram after tram was packed, and I have to admit that the coffee was nothing short of horrible. In the end, maybe it was just me, but this isn't a place I'd be heading back to in a hurry.

This was once a dark dingy corner with questionable coffee quality on the inside. Burnside has flipped the offering completely on its head, with a bright and open fit out that welcomes you in as if being drawn in to a friends open arms. There's (very good) coffee from Seven Seeds and simple toasties and pastries to keep the wolf from the door. Don't come expecting poached eggs and more elaborate fare, because it's all simple and easy eat-with-your-hands type food on offer. With tram stops just outside the door, these guys are already doing a brisk morning trade and they've only been open a week! Pull up a chair and stay for a while if you can. The fitout is happy and you'll leave with a slightly larger than normal spring in your step after hanging out here for a while listening to the good tunes in the sunshine.

These guys do the best coffee. I am a Fitzroy local and have an abundance of really good coffee within striking distance. Burnside is where I go for when I want an exceptional one. Great sandwiches and toasties also.

Without a doubt the best iced long black I've may have ever had. I am visiting Melbourne for work and went for a jog and when I was finished I stopped here. I only brought my AMEX with you which Burnside doesn't accept. The barista told me not to worry about it and pay them back next time I was there. Can't wait to go back tomorrow and pay them back and have another great coffee. Thanks guys!
