Budgies Burritos

I went to Budgies Burritos today for the first time and I can honestly say it was one of the best burritos I’ve ever had in my life. So many great vegan options and great price for the quality and amount of handmade food you get. Everything was so fresh and delicious and the vibe and decor is spot on. Total comfort and cool atmosphere with great music. I’ll be back soon and thank you.

This is a popular Mount Pleasant vegetarian burrito/taco restaurant, and a good alternative to the big brand name burrito joints for plant-inclined eaters. The staff are very cool as is the vibe. I've tried a few things here: the Johnny O, Blair Stanley, Jo June, and Poser in either burrito or bowl form, and also the vegan chocolate chip cookie they offer. The Poser so far is the clear winner - the ground round was nicely seasoned. Jo June was alright but blander than expected given that it's made with stewed poblano peppers. I did really like the Johnny O, but the chipotle sour cream is what ties it together, so I’m not sure if the vegan version would hit the same. In general, the burritos/bowls lean toward the “stuff thrown in a bowl together" vibe rather than a cohesive dish to me. It's okay but not something I'd crave. Similarly, the cookie was fine but didn’t wow me. I probably wouldn’t get it again, but I just don’t care for chocolate chip that much unless it’s got something special about it. All that being said, I am willing to go back and keep exploring the menu to see if I find something that really speaks to me.

This has been me and my husband's favorite place for about 9 years now. All vegetarian options can be made vegan and the most flavorful, fulfilling and satisfying flavors in a burrito you will ever get. I'm vegetarian leaning towards vegan but my husband is an absolute carnivore and he was the one who showed me this place and now it's our spot. Over the years they have also made the atmosphere more cozy and warm and it's just a cool vibe overall. It's honestly one of the best kept secrets and I really wanna keep it that way. I always get the Blaire Stanley made vegan and my husband gets the Johnny O (make sure to ask for a side of their sauces, the chili oil and Verde sauce are the best IMO 👌). I also love that they give you options of tortilla, beans, Lettuce and sauces. i cant say enough good things, I LOVE LOVE LOVE BUDGIES and it will always be my favorite burrito place over all the places. Everyone we bring loves it too vegetarian and meat eaters alike!

The Plant Curious book brought me here for the first time! Favourite was the Jamedog burrito bowl (GF option) for the garlic and lime roasted potatoes. The guacamole is a worthy $2 add on! They were able to exclude certain items due to ingredient sensitivities. The burritos are $13.50 regular price, and they're massive! Very filling and packed with ingredients between the rice, beans, and protein. 1 burrito could be split into 2 meals easily. The only critique I had was the cabbage is relatively dry by itself, and definitely needs a sauce or sour cream (or in my case, guacamole) to liven it. Hopefully they are able to offer vegan sour cream in the future! There was a slight miscommunication on our order and the staff was kind enough to let us keep the item made in error. The interior was retro and colourful (we loved all the details in the seating area downstairs) and the 2 staff members were great and patient! Would definitely come back to this East Van gem!

Look. Sometimes you want a great big burrito that's THICC. Normally you'd want greasy, but little do you know that you want delicious delicious potatoes in burrito form. And this is your destination. It's everything you want. But vegetarian! And still really good. And in a great little local place with local events listed. Peak East Van in the best ways possible. Basically I'm saying I advise it. Don't expect fancy, just good.

My favourite burrito place in Canada!!! Love the flavours, 100% vegan/vegetarian, quality and quantity. I come here every time i visit Vancouver, I wish they open here in Toronto, we will be there permanent customers 🤪❤️ MUST VISIT!!!

We were on our way to check out a shop on Broadway and since Budgie's Burritos was nearby, I finally got to use my plant based deals coupon for it. My daughter and I both ordered burrito bowls and took them to go. It looks like a cute place and they have seating downstairs as well. Hope that we can eat in the shop itself next time. My daughter got The Mr. Jones burrito bowl and I got the Jamedog. The Mr. Jones was a pretty basic combination of ingredients. It had rice, beans, vegan cheese , sour cream, salsa, and green cabbage. Jamedog was similar but slightly more complex as it came with a chipotle sour cream, as well as garlic and lime roasted potatoes. Wow, those potatoes were so good! If I find myself at Budgie's Burritos again I will definitely order the Jamedog again just so I can eat those wonderful garlic and lime roasted potatoes again. Seasoned veteran vegetarian here (20 years) this place is fire. I had the poser, one with veggie ground. Fire. Service was amazing. Prices were great. Will be back again and spreading the word to my other veggie friends.
