Bouchon Comptoir Brunet

Bouchon Comptoir Brunet was great! Our meals were delicious. I had the Pork Belly which was well presented and tasted great. My wife thoroughly enjoyed her Lyonnaise Salad. The wine list offered good options and we were pleased with our selection. Our service was very good! Great experience overall!

Loved the vintage vibe of the restaurant. The food was impeccable and authentic. The service was fantastic. Still dreaming of the lyonnaise salad, the quenelle and the praline house cake… chef’s kiss!

We had a fantastic experience enjoying traditional Lyonnaise dishes at this Bouchon. Although we arrived close to closing time, they were very accommodating. The host was incredibly warm and friendly, taking the time to explain each dish to us in English since the menu was only in French. While the food took a little longer to arrive, it was absolutely worth the wait—each dish was melt-in-your-mouth delicious, made with high-quality, fresh ingredients. 10/10 would recommend the quenelle and roast veal.

Actually perfect food. Everything is cooked flawlessly. Had the poached egg with wine sauce then asked for the menu as I wanted to also have another starter before the main, just to experience more of the food here while in town, knowing I won’t be back too soon. Service is also amazing. Can only praise this restaurant and its staff, as well as atmosphere. Unpretentious and truly delicious.

This restaurant was incredible!!! Amazing staff, excellent recommendations from the chef and wonderful cozy atmosphere. We ordered Fois gras, and oeuf marnet and the beef tripes. We also ordered a sausage entree. The beef was prepared perfectly with a beautiful crust and tender squash. The fois gras was beautifully salty and savory. Exactly what we expected from Lyonnaise food.

Excellent cooking and ambiance in a pretty space: starters of oeufs en meurette and snails were excellent, as were mains, veal with morels and my quenelle. The latter was unusual as being served in pastry, unlike the usual molten soufflé-like behemoth (both ways are delicious). My companion did not like the praline tart which she felt to be somewhat rubbery, although that might be a question of taste. Note that you have to go outside in order to go to the loo.

I approached Bouchon Comptoir Brunet with high hopes, drawn by their promise of exceptional service. Unfortunately, this commitment seemed to falter the moment they realized I wasn't a native French speaker - probably - because I have never encountered such a dining experience before - having residing in UK and travelled to many countries and cities before. The only notable positive experience was from a young lady staff whose service was impeccable! While the food was undoubtedly disappointing, the entire experience felt somewhat sidelined, and at times, hostile. The food, far from the culinary masterpiece I had anticipated, was surprisingly plain. The pork ribs (main dish), which I could have easily obtained at a fraction of the price from the morning market at Quai Des Celestin, were lackluster. The lobster/shellfish pastry (main dish) was even worse, falling far short of my expectations given its price and my positive experience at Les Halles Boscue. Furthermore, the culinary shortcomings were overshadowed by the behavior of the restaurant's old female owner (I assume she is the owner). She seemed deliberately antagonistic, insisting that I moved my jacket and bag, which was placed behind me on the chair, to another chair despite the fact that there were no other patrons nearby. The suggestion also did not make sense as I would have gladly provided space if there was anyone trying to move in the table beside me. As such, her actions suggested a level of hostility that was both unwarranted and uncomfortable. Not sure if she probably felt ashamed of having to squeeze so many tables in a small shop? She also gestured impatiently when she noticed a slight imperfection in the tablecloth and let out a sigh of exasperation when she accidentally knocked over a salt bottle. I was left bewildered because I had never encountered such an experience before. It was clear that she was intent on affecting my dining experience in a negative way. Given the combination of poor food and unpleasant service, I cannot recommend this restaurant to anyone. It is no wonder why other restaurants offering Lyon traditional dishes were mostly closed on Sunday, particularly another similar restaurant in the same street with much higher Google rating. Unfortunately, I had to travel to another French city the next day, if not, I would have trusted the Google rating and reviews for Bouchon Comptoir Brunet and steer clear of this food place in the first place. My guess is that the restaurant is probably desperate for customers 😕

We had a lovely meal in this cosy restaurant. The menu was varied, food was delicious with generous portions and excellent wine. The service was fast and friendly. Would definitely recommend.
