"You can never have too many good options, especially when it comes to beer and wine, and the odd spirit in between. Enter Blackhearts & Sparrows. There's a few Blackhearts & Sparrows in Melbourne, the Smith St branch being the latest. It's an incredibly beautifully designed store, with wrought iron and natural materials. So beautifully and tastefully done, their selection of drinks matches the decor just as well. If you're like me – you like good wine, but you know next to nothing about it (let alone choosing it) then this is the kind of place for you. I enter, ask for a recommendation and walk out with an amazing bottle of wine. No attitude, no pretense, no expectations on previous knowledge – just kind, helpful and very knowledgeable service. These beautiful photos are courtesy of Blackhearts & Sparrows." - Studio Fellow

Helpful staff member Adam assisted with the conundrum of beer choice after a perusal of the wide range of beers wines gins and other alcoholic and zero beverages. Great to see the variety of snacks and other delicacies along with a range of probably useful bar accessories . I’ll be back 🥂😀

Visited this store in person after repeatedly enjoying the creative and innovative window display in passing previously. The business has a craft/hipster vibe and a wine range and display style that excites the eye and palate. As I was about to enjoy a rare treat of alcohol I chose this small business to buy some cold beers. The store interior following the two handcrafted 'Covid Safety Rules' & 'community behaviour guidance' posters on the door was welcoming. The staff member was elegant, clothed and styled to match his obvious enjoyment of fine wine and customer satisfaction. I observed and listened briefly to discussion of wine for an occasion with the only other customers (a young couple). Chose my simple purchase from small beer fridge & before it had touched the service counter he had already excused from his conversation. The gentleman appeared in front of me with a pleasant smile, a few words passed during pay & package option and a genuine thanks and enjoy safely upon my leaving. Environment & service as elegantly "Top notch" as I am certain every hand picked beverage in this smaller chain store is too! Recommend it strongly for the whole pleasant and uplifting experience from footpath to purchase. Cheers, my senses are thanking you Blackhearts & Sparrows. 👈🖤👉

What exactly is your policy on charging customers the same price as displayed on the shelf? . Second time I've been charged differently to the advertised shelf price and the response by your salesman was just buy 6 bottles to get a 10% discount. Rude and really not right at all. . Prices are there show the price of a bottle, not as a bloody guide and then be advised it's more. Second time in your stores and your Richmond store has to do much better to keep people like me returning.

The Fitzroy team are awesome - always friendly, super knowledgeable and willing to help find exactly what I'm looking for, even when I get my wine labels mixed up! I go on a weekly basis and still feel like I've only just scratched the surface of their incredible range.

Very good selection of Australian wines and very knowledgeable staff. I’m not familiar with the price points of Australian wine but the recommendations they gave me for $30 were very good. Very nice layout.

A great selection of reserve wines compared to some of the other stores I have visited northside - and the staff are easy going but have a really good product knowledge. Great recommendations!

Walked in looking for wine with very limited wine knowledge (which I made very clear and was met with "either do I" which made me chuckle) but was met with super friendly and helpful staff, excellent suggestions were made and has been enjoyed immensely. Didn't catch the staff names but you guys were great. Thanks heaps!!

Yelp
After you've visited one of Fitzroy's many trendy restaurants you might be wondering where you can buy the bottle of wine you just had. If this is the case then pay a visit to the brand new Blackhearts & Sparrows on Smith Street. There's loads of interesting wines to choose from, including a massive selection of pre-chilled whites in the fridge. The selection is curated for "drink me now" moments rather than "put this away forever" which is just what you need when you've got a table at a BYO restaurant or want to buy something on the way home from work. There's also a massive craft beer selection, and a tidy collection of spirits if you're after something stiffer.

Yelp
This shop has been on my radar for quite some time, and I was shocked when I found out how close in proximity I've been to it for so long! It's smack on Smith Street, walking distance from Forester's Beer Hall. It's like the ideal place for a craft beer to take home after drinking and tasting different ones. The girl working at Blackhearts & Sparrows was super friendly. We were greeted walking in, further asked for help, and further recommended that when you buy a mix and match to make a 6 pack of beers, it's 10% off. Do I want a free beer? Heck YES. It's that spending to save, but we grabbed four beers to begin with, so two just sounded like extra awesome to take home. They specialize in boutique wine too. And if you are after something specific, they can track it down and order it for you. My first visit was for beer, my next will be for a delectable wine. And so I left Blackhearts & Sparrows, perfectly smitten with their variety that you can't find in the norm.

Yelp
This shop has been open about a year now and has become my regular bottle shop. They have an excellent range of wines, including unusual ones that you don't readily find at most places. In particular I like the range of Italian and French wines. The staff are really helpful and knowledgeable about the wines, I have been more adventurous on their advice and found some new wines I really like. Also a good range of beer and spirits. I suppose it is a bit pricier on average, but the cheaper wines (around 14 - 16)they have are actually great value, much better than what you would get for the same price at a supermarket bottle shop.

Yelp
Cool wine cellar. Friendly people. Large selection of 'indie wines' including quite a lot of Italian and French wines. Some natural wines as well. Prices go from around 15$ to 100$.

Yelp
Blackhearts and Sparrows! No less than 5 stars. Another addition to the widely expanding empire of fantastic shops, this location will come in handy once you figure out the byo policies of the local restaurants. It may also work out well, if you would like to bring something special back home. While a lot of the store focus is on stocking high qaulity and priced wines, there are still some very good and very affordable finds. If the wide range of wines of all types doesn't interest you, (White, Red, Rose and other curious finds) rest assured, that you will be well looked after in the beer, cider, spirits, and even sake departments. Thought the latter is a bit limited, but still very worthy. A store with everything you need and some very good wine producers/labels.
