Tucked in Lower Haight, Bar Jabroni serves up creative small plates and exceptional wines in a warm, vibrant atmosphere that's perfect for gathering with friends.
"The team at sandwich superstars Palm City quietly opened this restaurant in tandem with a Top Chef-vetted chef in spring 2024. Robert Hernandez, who also cooked at fine dining outfit Octavia, serves oysters on the half shell with long pepper mignonette, black cod pil pil with potato and cabbage, and buttermilk cake with black sesame cake. This is one of the restaurants you’ll likely want to make a reservation in advance." - Paolo Bicchieri
"How Far In Advance Should You Book? Two to three weeks for weekends, or a week for a weekday spot. Bar Jabroni is the sister restaurant to the beloved Palm City, so it’s no surprise that the Lower Haight bar was packed for weeks after opening. It’s still booked out some nights—especially weekends thanks to a great wine selection and solid snacky dishes like kampachi crudo and scallion pancakes with whipped feta. But you can always walk up for a bar seat if you get there early enough, or grab a table a couple weeks out." - julia chen 1
"The team behind Outer Sunset sandwich and beverage shop Palm City Wines opened Bar Jabroni in late March, but whether it's actually a restaurant or a bar depends on who you ask. What’s for sure: Chef Robert Hernandez, former chef de cuisine at Octavia, created a food menu that’s just as funky as the wine. Head to Lower Haight for a glass of chilled red and a green garlic and date pancake or a bottle of skin contact wine with a plate of roasted arrowhead cabbage." - Dianne de Guzman, Eater Staff
"Verdict: We’re always willing to stand around for a spot at this Lower Haight wine bar because waiting is half the fun. Everyone who hasn't been seated yet hangs out in the middle of the room drinking Alsatian riesling and making new friends. Once you finally secure your place at the bar or pack into a teeny yellow-tiled table, order a couple of snacks from the rotating menu. (We recently had some great, fall-apart wagyu beef cheeks and creamy potato gnocchi.) The portions are small, so plan on heading elsewhere for a full meal." - julia chen 1, ricky rodriguez
"Next time you’re looking to strike up a conversation with a stranger over something more substantial than a bowl of free peanuts, head to Bar Jabroni. This snug Lower Haight wine bar from the team behind Palm City is a hotbed of totally real laughs at terrible jokes and ever-so-slight arm caresses. People chat as they order glasses of pét-nat to go with rotating small plates like wagyu beef cheeks, creamy potato gnocchi, and soft shell crab. Even on a random Wednesday night, there's still usually a crowd flirting and namedropping who they saw at The Independent." - ricky rodriguez, julia chen 1
