Back in Black

Flawless egg on a brioche bun with pesto and just the right amount of Parmesan cheese; banana-bread pain perdue that melts in your mouth; a slice of nutty, spicy carrot cake that’s heaven on a plate. Oh and the coffee is some of the best in town. Will be back to try more things. Yum!

Specialty coffee shop in the Bastille area. The coffee we tried was pretty good and interesting. The french toast banana bread is to die for. The only con is that it was super loud with all the clients on a saturday.

I opted for an iced latte and a cold brew, boasting what I suspect are wonderfully aromatic Ethiopian blend beans (though this is just a guess, not guaranteed). The savory scone paired with mushroom sauce and sautéed mushrooms was excellent! It would have been perfect if it were a little less oily. The Vbanana bread, described on the menu as a private recipe, didn’t taste much different to me, but was still delightfully sweet. I also ordered a carrot cake, which I forgot to photograph. Personally, I love this kind of not-too-sweet cake with cinnamon; it was moist and delicious. The topping, if I recall correctly, was nuts and a yogurt sauce, but it was likable enough for a second try! The ambiance was incredibly chill, especially on a weekday, enhancing the experience twofold! I absolutely loved the large skylight; the brightness boosts one’s mood, and the coffee bar under the daylight exuded a leisurely vibe.

The worst food in Paris I have tried. This is definitely not the american food. The scrambled eggs were yaky, fatty. The latte was just like hot milk. Diguisting. The only good thing was the bread, because it was made somewhere else.

Really disappointing brunch here, was my favourite spot a few years ago but has went downhill. They are cutting corners and it shows. My favourite had always been the breakfast roll, but today it was a glorified cheese toastie (made with bread) with one slice of bacon. I could have made it at home for less than 4€, so to charge 14.50€ for essentially bread, cheese, egg and one slice of bacon is just a bit of a joke. It’s sad because this place used to be really good, but today I just feel let down and ripped off - avoid. (first picture is breakfast roll before which was so good - second picture is cheese on toast????! lol)

Groovy place ! Very nice, well-prepared dishes. Excellent coffee selection, and best-of-all, different bean brews, all light roast. Very friendly, attentive service. Granola was awesome and novel.

I can’t say enough about Back in Black. With 100% truth, I have to say this was the best French Toast I’ve ever eaten. Exquisitely presented with a thinly sliced poached pair and Pear Compote combined with Brioche French Toast and wonderful cream. Laced with cinnamon, it was a treat for my senses. We also ordered a breakfast bun that was just as amazing, perfect for those who like savory. Be sure to order a Happiness juice to go with your breakfast. I literally walked out on a food high. The servers were friendly, and I had to go back to the wonderful open kitchen and thank the chef, who threw me a pose as sweet as her breakfast was served. I would go back in a heartbeat!!!

Excellent coffee and service. Good food. Be sure to ask for it warmed up which makes them even better. Very local feel.
