"Within the Audubon umbrella there's an aquarium (fish galore, plus a hurricane simulator and dive experience), a zoo (all the standard fare plus a petting zoo, a dinosaur adventure, and a water park), and a butterfly garden and insectarium (Louisiana bugs are stuff of legend). In addition, you'll find an IMAX and a park with tennis, stables, golf, and running paths."

This zoo was the best zoo either of us had ever been to. I'm not a huge zoo enthusiast so maybe I'm just unaware but this was the first zoo that had so many open enclosures in that you could view these amazing animals and get great photos without having to do so between bars. Big cats were mostly caged but other animals had space where they could be viewed without obstructions. We were also able to view animals we have never seen living on the west side of the United States. We were pleasantly surprised by our experience. Definitely recommend! It's helpful to note that the zoo is a few miles away from the aquarium!

One of the best Zoos i have ever experienced. The cool Zoo is...... ok. Its obviously and naturally geared to small children. The zoo exhibits and the spacing was awesome. Even in 95°+ weather.. the foliage kept us cool. Awesome zoo. Beautiful.

We are on vacation love to check out zoos in various areas. Audobon Zoo is one of our favorites, second only to The Bronx Zoo. 10/10 would recommend visiting. Ticket prices are reasonable, and general entry is included with encounter purchases, which we did. The layout is great for meandering through and seeing all the highlight animals. There are plenty of seating and refreshment areas throughout each section. Each area also pays homage to the culture of the people instead of simply being focused on the animals, which is an excellent bonus many zoos don't have. It took us about 5 hours to walk the whole zoo. In addition to viewing the animals, we did an animal encounter and met the zoo's male white rhino, Saba. This is a new encounter experience for the zoo and only their second week offering it, but we never would have known had they not told us. The staff was prepared, courteous, and knowledgeable. They were able to answer all of our questions and gave us a lot of information in a way that didn't feel overwhelming or really even like learning. Again, 10/10 would recommend this experience.

I've been to a lot of zoos in a lot of states and considered not going today because I feel like I've seen it all, but wow I'm glad I went. This place is huge, every single part of it is gorgeous, and there are exhibits everywhere, many built in a natural way such that sometimes you don't even realize you're walking on a boardwalk that goes right through an exhibit. The information about the animals is interesting, and there are many places that are less zoo and more just beautiful park area. Definitely worth the visit, plus you can bundle it with the aquarium and insectarium and see all three for less!

Google
I’m an unofficial zoo connoisseur that have been to almost 20 zoo’s in the USA alone. Totally worth the price and would come back again. Would definitely recommend bringing bug spray because the bugs are definitely out in the summer time. Aside from that, family friendly and a lot of interesting facts to learn. Two thumbs up! Also by your tickets online, there was only 1 cashier open when I arrived and the line was moving extremely slow.

We knew going in that visiting in June meant dealing with some serious heat — and it definitely had an impact. A lot of the animals were tucked into the very back corners of their enclosures trying to escape the sun, which I don’t blame them for at all. Still, it was a bit disappointing that so few had visible, shaded areas closer to the public viewing spots. It would’ve been great if there were more cooling zones within sight where the animals could go without disappearing from view entirely. The zoo itself is a lovely place with a lot to explore and a handful of interactive experiences that were really well done. The only other downside was that a few exhibits were under construction or closed for cleaning, so those animals weren’t out at all — not a huge deal, but enough to leave me just slightly irked. The chain link fencing around some of the enclosures makes it tough to get great photos, which was a bit of a bummer when trying to capture special moments. Maybe something to consider as a future project — clearer viewing would make the experience that much more memorable without taking away from safety or structure. All in all, a positive experience and worth visiting — just be prepared that in the summer months, you may not see as many animals out and about as you’d hope

Google
Easily the most beautiful zoo I’ve ever been to. The zoo is laid out to make it just kind of flow. There are things to look at that fit the design and vibe of the country or continent you’re in. It is very well done! I didn’t eat there but the vending machine in the swamp sells canned Gatorade! Overall, it was without a doubt, a must do while you’re in New Orleans!

Absolutely beautiful zoo. Easy free parking or paid premium parking at the front. Children's interactive areas sprinkled into the whole park. Themed walking sections such as Asia and Africa and Swamp, with mostly open air animal enclosures. There are plenty of kiosks for snacks and drinks. Without children, we completed the tour in 2 hours. Completely wheelchair, scooter, and stroller accessible. There is a small optional water park with a lazy river. Each gift shop has unique items. Pro tip: With aquarium ticket purchase, the zoo was only $8 more as a bundle ticket. We went from 3-5 pm on a Thursday with no crowds.

Yelp
We visited Audubon Zoo whilst we were visiting NOLA for the Eras Tour and let me tell you, they understood the assignment. They went out of their way to incorporate Taylor references into most of their exhibits. They had really thought it through as well using lyrics such as "Karma is a cat" for the tigers exhibit. Every single one brought a smile to my face. This zoo is the perfect size as well, just big enough to make it a fun activity but not too big that everyone gets grouchy afterwards. It's easily walkable. Very family oriented as well with play areas scattered throughout as well as fun, interactive displays to keep your kids engaged. They have a the tree with a little sign that says "look up" and indeed lo and behold there is a raccoon in a tree. They also have an actual swamp full of alligators which was a fun and unique way of showcasing Louisiana. Great selection of animals, exhibited in my favorite way which is per continent and with some cool fitting scenery along the way. All animals seemed really well taken care of. My one room for improvement is for the cafe that is near the swamp. It's self check out, but it's pretty much self everything. We were waiting on our order to be called and nothing ever did. We eventually went to the pick up order to check in and then they started putting it together. Not sure if that's what we were supposed to do, everything pointed to a "you order and we got you", oh well.

Yelp
The zoo is not usually something tourists do while in New Orleans but here we are. We wanted to give Bourbon Street a break so we thought the zoo would be different. They do have a large variety of animals and everything is very spacious. My favorite had to be the Toucan and the gorilla. It's also a very clean zoo with a beautiful fountain at the front. The downside of this zoo is it is very expensive compared to other zoos I have been to. It's 30 dollars a person (which is insane) and they are not part of the zoo program where discounts are given if you have another zoo membership. The water bottles come in a can and they are 7 dollars per can. I feel like we spent a small fortune there. It was nice to do something different but I probably wouldn't be coming back to this zoo due to how expensive it is

Aaron L.

Yelp
Spent nearly half the day here, Half the animals not even here or active. Goats missing, turtles and tortoise area still under construction, black bear never comes out, min zebru absent, giant tortoises not moving, not worth 75$ for two people when you could visit other zoos and get a better experience.

Thuy V.

Yelp
We had such a great time with our 8 year old here in April. I consider it a medium size zoo- not largest but certainly enough for 2-3 hours. It's fairly flat making it easy to travel with kids. Several different sections to explore with small play areas spread throughout to get the wiggles out. Some of the animals did look a bit sad (orangutans) . Gift shops were nice. Food was decent too. Several school groups there in April. Perfect weather. We were visiting and Uber Lyft and there were not a lot around this area but it was fine for us to wait.

Jessica M.

Yelp
Was a lot of fun and the animals look well taken care of. Miss the team though from the back of the zoo lol

Klemens T.

Yelp
Came here for the first time with my family. The zoo was slow because we came on a Tuesday so we were thinking we scored with not dealing with traffic. This zoo was a slight disappointment because there were a lot of exhibits that were closed for whatever reason. They had no chimps and a lot of the animals we wanted to see were just hiding. There were some cool animals that we don't have in Hawaii so it was nice to see such as the Louisiana Swamp exhibit or the owls. The reptile exhibit was ok. We got the trio combo admissions for the zoo, aquarium and the insectarium. The best ranked to us were the insectarium, aquarium, and the zoo in that order. The staff are very friendly. Lots of parking.

Angela K.

Yelp
In all honesty, the zoo was a bit of a letdown. Doesn't seem like they upkeep the enclosures very well. The water is dirty, the viewing glasses have hard water stains on them, and there was even one enclosure (the Komodo dragon) with a big crack at the bottom. Additionally, some areas were closed off. The zoo is huge, and they have a lot of extra land that I feel as though could be used to expand some of the enclosures. The animals looked pretty miserable. It made me feel so sorry for them. It was also very hot so most of them were hiding in shaded areas. Another thing that shocked me was we did not see a single employee supervising the areas, not even in the free-flight aviary house, so there was never an opportunity to ask questions either. We only saw them driving around in golf carts. It was hard to find bathrooms because there were no signs for them. A water bottle was priced at a minimum of $6. There's just a long list of cons to this zoo. We came on a Friday afternoon, and it was pretty much dead. At one point, we barely ran into people. Such a shame because the place is gorgeous. We really tried to make the most out of our time there, but we couldn't walk out satisfied, no matter how long we stayed. They really need to do better for their animals and their visitors. We Ubered to the zoo, so I can't comment on parking. Maybe we just didn't come at a good time.

Grethel M.

Yelp
At first I thought it was gonna be a small zoo. Heck I was wrong. It's big The animals are well taken care of. They have great variety. It was a Great Experience! I definitely recommend the zoo as a get away choice to do something different when visiting New Orleans. You'll Love it as much as I did.

Destini R.

Yelp
This zoo was the highlight of our trip. Feeding the giraffes and the peacocks were the topic majority of the drive back home. They were so beautiful. My grandmother enjoyed watching her great grandchildren roll down the hill more than the animals.

Connie S.

Yelp
The Audubon Zoo in New Orleans has a variety of displays from Flamingos at the entrance, Elephants, Lions, jaguar, Birds, Seals, Swamp Area. There is a historical fountain and other building in the zoo. A newer elephant fountain is in the center of the Zoo. The train was not running when I went in Feb. But maybe during the Summer, it might be running again. There is a sit down restaurant, snack bar and gift shop. The Cajun Hall is used for events in the Swamp Area. So bring your kids and take a break from the French Qtrs.

Yelp
I'm a zoo aficionado, having been educated as a biologist and having served as the Chairman of the Board of Overseers at Zoo New England. Whenever I visit a major city, I'm sure to visit the zoo. I enjoyed the Audubon zoo more than the Brookfield zoo in Chicago, the Denver zoo, and the Minneapolis zoo (despite the last having the Komodo dragons on display and the Audubon having them off-exhibit). The grounds are well-laid out and lush with vegetation. I paid the $5 upcharge to take the train, which was great to get the "lay of the land." I then explored each of the areas, which are arranged somewhat confusingly by geography or species group. The collection is both broad and deep, with a mix of indoor and outdoor exhibits, including a nocturnal building, two open-air aviaries, and my favorite, the swamp exhibit, which describes the habitat, the flora and fauna found there, and human interaction/impact. It only gets four stars because of very poor signage (I ended up going through the Swamp trail "backwards" as a result) and the lack of paper maps. My phone had run out of charge (another demerit: no charging stations, so if you didn't bring a cord and plug and were able to hunt down a power outlet, you're SOL) and the "You Are Here" maps were few and far between. Also, it's a very long walk from the St Charles streetcar. A shuttle service, even for a nominal fee, would be nice. All in all, a wonderful zoo.

B R.

Yelp
Family vacation large group so we split up and 1/2 of us ended up at the Zoo for the day. It was 3 generations of family and there was something for everyone to enjoy and see. What a treat! I haven't enjoyed a zoo for decades. This place was fantastic from entering to departing. It was large! Clean and so many beautiful animals to see. The zoo is so large you feel like you're in a nature park. So be prepared to walk and walk around some more. It was worth every penny and I tell everyone who's visiting NOLA don't miss this!

Marie S.

Yelp
Located in Audubon Park uptown New Orleans you would think it would be small and un interesting- Nope it is big, informative and has lots of animals and interactive activities. I went on a cloudy cooler day, At the entrance to the zoo we were greeted by a friendly enthusiastic man who gave us great information and how to download the map. All the animals were out. The design of the zoo was great-it had a center around a beautiful fountain- the different animal groups branded off from there (you could even take a tram which costs $) My favorite part was the bayou- lots of alligators in an open area (you walk across a walkway/dock) The employees put a LOT of effort in the decorations. Decorated for Mardi Gras (even all the enclosures) Walking through the zoo in at all the enclosures were lots of signs and information. There was even a playground/ picnic area. We finished our tour and stopped to eat and one of the restaurants. I got a salad I wanted the sauce on the side- it was on top and it was WAY to much- everything was drenched in dressing. I walked through the gift shop on the way out it was big, bright cheerful and designed very nicely.

Yelp
One of the best zoos I've ever been to! I have done the giant zoos such as San Diego, Omaha, and Miami. This is highly rated for a good reason I know that it's not possible to have African elephants and all the animals consistent that you find in every single zoo that would be my one wish to improve the park, but it is absolutely worth the price. I've been twice now since I've lived on the gulf coast, and neither time has disappointed if you're in New Orleans, make sure to check it out.

Yelp
I'm so sad about this because we've been visiting the Audubon for about 20 years. I've been going since grade school. The zoo, which recently got an upgrade and moved around their exhibits, is so run down and filthy now. It's 4-19-2025. We have a child who loves zoos and is determined to visit every zoo in the word. Our last was San Diego zoo, and then to their gorgeous safari park. The Audubon zoo has always been, compact, but lovely and well landscaped. The animals always looked happy and comfortable. Not this time. The exhibits are just so run down and filthy. Wood was rotted. Plants were dead. Walks were covered in filth, scraped, food left in guest areas. Bathrooms were smelly and just beyond disgusting; Yellow seats with poop stains and faucets that tricked with no soap or paper. Handles Rosie uth exhibits were broken or muck covered. There was very little to impress anyone here. No zoo maps. No code to scan for zoo maps. An empty hole where the carousel was. I was glad to see that the elephants had been given more room, but even that spacious area was barren and neglected in appearance. The plate glass of the Komodo dragon enclosure was shattered. Not one greeter was happy lol. I'm so sad that it looks this gross. Audubon park is such a pretty, oak filled, area that tourists enjoy. The zoo is filled with some of the most magnificent old oaks you'll ever see. Unfortunately, they'll probably never give this zoo the complete renovation and remodel it needs. After recently visiting a half dozen zoos in other states, I am here to tell you that if you ever read that this zoo is rated number 7 or above it's absolutely untrue. It's so so very run down. At 35 dollars each, it cost us over 200 to walk through this dumporama. So sad to say that I don't want to ever go back.

Dara M.

Yelp
Perhaps coming to the zoo on a hot August morning has its advantages. I felt like my husband and I had the zoo to ourselves yesterday. I pursued to my hearts content. While all the areas are wonderful, my favorite portion was the bayou portion of the zoo.

Ta M.

Yelp
This zoo experience was very exciting for the kids. There was lots to explore and experience. We all had a great time.

Carrie B.

Yelp
Excellent zoo. Well taken care of. Kristin who runs the train inside is super helpful. A wonderful way to spend the day

Eugene J.

Yelp
Wonderful animal exhibits, zoo staff friendly and experts on different animals and ecosystems. Was a great experience walking and exploring.

Misty K.

Yelp
We had an incredible visit to the Audubon zoo in New Orleans over spring break. The entire park was up and moving around. It wasn't overly crowded which was amazing. So many exhibits to see and such amazing creatures. My son loves monkeys and other primates. We enjoyed such good weather as well. I love that this treasure is in uptown.

Tirzah H.

Yelp
It's been years since the last time I'd been at Audubon Zoo. I was in the 5th grade and many memories came flooding back when I passed the gates. The park is so much bigger and there are some exhibits that they are working on, but it was an amazing sight to see. All the beautiful animals, all the wonderful plants and flowers...it takes a special talent to curate such an atmosphere. I found the tree that my father and I sat near when I was 10 years old...it was at that tree that I chased after a meandering peacock and my dad snatched me so quick trying to prevent me from possibly be hurt by the gorgeous bird. I shared this adventure with my nephew today and it was such a joy to share this nostalgic moment with him. I pray that I don't wait as many years to revisit this magical place! I will be back soon!

Jasmine H.

Yelp
This was about the worst zoo I have visited. I paid online for the tickets. 1 adult and 1 child. When I got up to the booth they only scanned on ticket and let my child proceed so maybe I didn't have two purchase 2 tickets? That would have been nice to know before hand. The zoo was very over grown with weeds. It needs lots of maintenance. Due to the conditions it made it were taking the pictures of the animals impossible. A few of the animals were hidden behind the weeds. The beautiful fountain out front was not working. Numerous of the vendors offing snacks and beverages weren't open. It had plenty spots were I could bring my son to have a picnic that's the only plus.

Blythe R.

Yelp
We purchased the combo for the zoo, aquarium and insectium (sp?) for 60 per person. Great weekend for all three. The zoo has expanded it seems since I was there 30 years ago in grade school. They have done well keeping it up and it was very clean.

Lexi M.

Yelp
What an amazing zoo! This zoo has it all; animals, great cafes, and even a water park inside! They have a variety of animals who are acclimated to different temperates but the water park was a big surprise! This is an additional charge (I believe $12 extra) but is a great option for families to visit the zoo and then go to the water park to cool off. We learned a lot about the elephants and how they even helped with hurricane Katrina. It was such a great visit and I can't wait to go back and do the water park!

Jillian S.

Yelp
TLDR: Reasonably priced medium sized zoo in New Orleans. Located at the south end of Audubon park near the Mississippi River. Lovely zoo in New Orleans that is larger than you'd think. Moving relatively quickly, we made it through in about 2.5 hours. You can certainly take your time, read all the education materials, and engage in the interactive activities to use up more time. On weekdays the zoo was fairly empty with a few school friend trips. Outside of when the schoolchildren were nearby, the zoo was quiet and peaceful. The animals seemed well fed and cared for. Ample employees were present to keep the zoo clean and answer questions. We walked here through Audubon park, however, you can drive and park for free at the zoo or take public transportation. Adult tickets were $30 each. They increase to $35 each on busier days. The zoo has a wide variety of animals from multiple continents. The exhibits are organized, immersive, interactive, and easy to locate. Ample bathrooms, water fountains, and trash cans are located through the park. Two cafes are available for full meals, snacks, or beverages near the entrance. My favorite area was surprisingly the Louisiana swamp. The alligators were incredible to watch. Plus the creativity of the staff is remarkable. They did a magnificent job decorating the exhibits for Mardi Gras and to add humor. Other favorite areas include the bats (love the added wind and sound effects) and the otters. We did not take the train or partake in the VR experience since they cost more and we have time constraints. Shout out to Alton who was incredibly welcoming and helpful at the entrance. Overall, we had an excellent time and recommend this zoo to others! Note: they have a bin near the entrance where you can recycle Mardi Gras beads.

Stretch R.

Yelp
We really enjoyed our visit to the zoo yesterday. It wasn't busy in the morning which made for a very pleasant experience. The only downside was we got tickets to ride the swamp train, but never even saw it. We only had a couple hours to spend, so waiting at stops for the train for more than 5 minutes seemed like a waste. We really enjoyed the tiger, elephants, gorillas and sea lions. The reptile house and bird house (not what it's really called) were big hits also. We were a group of 2 adults and a teen. Esp. appreciated the stickers at the ticket window included in this review, definitely made our family feel welcome and safe. The woman at the snack area by the flamingos was so kind to give us ice and water for free to fill our water bottles. Loved seeing spots for nursing mothers to get privacy and the signage was mostly good throughout for wayfinding. 4 instead of 5 stars for the train issue, and for the small selection of magnets in the gift shop. Overall this zoo was fantastic!

Kaitlyn A.

Yelp
I don't know if it's because I'm used to going to the houston zoo, but this place left a lot to be desired. First, all of the enclosures looked unkept and it was like everything was underconstruction, but not in a good way if that makes sense. It was just sad to see, and there was hardly anyone there. That's leads to my second point... you could not find any workers around anywhere! I'm used to seeing all types of employees walking around, and even talking about the animals. There was a bird exhibit that you could go in where the birds freely roamed, and no one was in there to make sure everything was okay. Also, it was so hard to find the bathrooms, and I got lucky that someone was driving by for me to stop to ask cause we were about to have some problems. Though, they did not seemed thrilled that I stopped to ask them. If you want to go somewhere to see animals, I recommened the aquarium, it was amazing and so much better!

Lindsey B.

Yelp
Still live the zoo and it has even more exhibits now than in years past. My kids love it and there's always something different to do the next time you go. Well worth getting the membership for the year. I will say though, they still have a lot of vendors closed so make sure you bring your own food and also your own hand sanitizer! None of the sanitizing dispensers had any in it. And I went straight first thing in the morning.

Charmaine V.

Yelp
Amazing day at this beautiful zoo. Friendly and knowledgeable staff (Mr. Irwin/Elephants) & (Ms. Susan/lions).

Paula C.

Yelp
We went to the zoo on a Thursday afternoon. It was not crowded. The zoo was actually larger than we thought. Most of the animals were out on exhibit. Since it was late afternoon most were lying down, but you could still see them. The zoo was clean and the animals exhibits looked in good shape. I would recommend to others

Marcee G.

Yelp
Always love visiting here. The grounds are beautiful and spacious. The animals are always active and seem very comfortable. So many animals here to see not at our home zoo. The sun bear, black bears, lemurs, otters, and babirusa are always a favorite. The gorgeous peacocks strutting around are a treat.

Wilson L.

Yelp
We had an amazing time checking out Audubon Zoo. The zoo was so big and had so much to see. Definitely worth checking out if you're wanting a day at the zoo. The animals look like they're very much cared for and treated well. A great way to spend a day.

Marie B.

Yelp
Like many, I have fond memories of going to Audubon Zoo. The childhood experience of waiting in anticipation of seeing a lion, tiger, or orangutan come out of their cave. Well the anticipation didn't change much into adulthood. People have their own opinions about the zoo but for me it is the only safe way I can admire the most deadly exotic animals and insects around the world. We went the day after Christmas, it wasn't crowded, and the weather was perfect. It took us a little over 2 hours to walk the entire zoo. There are so many photo ops, and plenty of shade and benches to rest if needed. Enjoy the Swamp Train with guided tour for a small additional cost. Wear light comfortable clothes and shoes. Who wears heels to the zoo? There is always one trying to be cute with aching feet. My two favorite attractions recently reopened- The Jaguar Jungle's Nocturnal House and Reptile Encounter Exhibit. Unfortunately as a result of Covid many of the hands on engaging and educational animal encounters were closed. The Louisiana Swamp gift shop was also closed. The bird attraction was closed for a much needed renovation. The carousel was out of service, and the Cool Zoo water park was closed for the season eventhough the week of Christmas it was 80 degrees. Despite the closures we had a great time. Fun for the entire family. Arrive early to enjoy before it gets hot and crowded. Highly recommend for anyone looking for something fun and family friendly to do in NOLA. Check the website for zoo and aquarium hours and tickets, discounts, membership, zoo special events, adopt an animal, animal recovery fund, and to book a party or wedding event. https://audubonnatureinstitute.org/

Yelp
We did the Zoo & Aquarium the same day hadn't been here in over 20 years and I really enjoyed it. Didn't enjoy the HEAT( it was HOT ). Will do it again but it will have to be in the FALL. We enjoyed it though. Employees were Nice & pleasant & way more Animals than BATON ROUGE ZOO.

Michelle T.

Yelp
We bought tickets online to visit the Zoo a few days beforehand and it was super easy. I highly recommend this, as you don't have to stand in line to buy tickets on site. We arrived a little after opening, so we were one of the first people in the zoo. I do recommend this, as it does get more packed during the day and it means you have to wait longer to get prime viewing spots for the animals. However, a downside to this is that some of the animals will still be sleeping when you visit. Some of the monkeys were sleeping when we were walking through the zoo, but most of the big cats were up and about. The zoo was absolutely fantastic - it's very well maintained and the enclosures were pretty big. We spent about 2.5 hours at the zoo, but could've honestly spent more time. We had to blitz through the last exhibits because we had 1:15pm tour tickets at the Sazerac House. The day we visited was the first day of their Tropical Bird House, so it was nice seeing toucans and other tropical birds roaming around. Whether you're an adult or a family, the Audubon Zoo is a solid half day visit.

Maegan B.

Yelp
We're locals and come here sparingly. It's extremely expensive at $35 a person with no discounts for locals, well atleast none are advertised. It is a large zoo, there's lots to see but most animals are usually hiding. The bird habitat is pretty cool, that's our favorite part. Cool zoo is also nice but it's an extra charge on top of general admission. They removed the carousel, not sure if it will be back. The train is a nice ride and only $5 per person. Sometimes it's a long wait but it's pretty informative. Monkey hill is great for kids but usually over 100 kids so it's a little overwhelming

Jackie C.

Yelp
we have been to zoos all over the world. This is a top-notch zoo that your kids will love. It is not so large that small children will grow grumpy by the end of the day. very pretty zoo.

Alicia M.

Yelp
I took advantage of the Military Appreciation Month discount and decided to spend a Friday morning here. We arrived right at opening but since a lot of people had the same idea (lol), I waited in the car until the line cleared. Prior to this, I last visited the Zoo in 2013 and figured I went on a bad day. This recent visit pretty much solidified my initial thoughts...this is not the best zoo. For all of the walking that we did, I did not feel there was much to show. There weren't a lot of animals and most of the primates had their backs turned to the crowd. I get that they probably don't like all the people, but I've never seen anything like it. I'm sooo thankful I got a discount because I would have been upset had I paid full price. It is worth mentioning that every staff member we came in contact with was super nice and helpful.

Chia B.

Yelp
This is a nice local zoo. I attended Boo at the Zoo which was a fun celebration. As of Friday morning it was still finding its rhythm, but we had a good time. When the weather is nice, the zoo is a lot of fun. My child especially loved the playground which was also my favorite growing up. I hope they revisit the food options since I remember there being much better options as a child. Overall, Audubon Zoo is still a fun place for kids.

Yelp
Love this place. Definitely one of the best in the south if not the best. Get food from the swamp cafe for more New Orleans style food instead of typical burgers and chicken tenders.

Yelp
Congratulation Audubon Zoo for winning top spots in USA 10Best List for Best Aquarium and Best Zoo in the country! We visited Cool Zoo and had a great time. We beat the heat in style with the Cabana. Best of all, it's right beside the animals inside Audubon Zoo. I had the opportunity to meet the CEO Tip: On the first Thursday of the month, Orleans Parish residents receive free admission to the Aquarium, and on the third Thursday of the month residents receive free admission to the Zoo.

Yelp
Incredible zoo! Great for families and couples. I love how natural the enclosures are. Definitely recommend if you are in town.

Yelp
Went to this beautiful zoo on Monday January 24th. We got there right when they opened and we pretty much had the entire place to ourselves. We purchased tickets online weeks before we went so entering the zoo was super simple. They take your picture after you pass the gate and at the end of your day you can buy the pictures with several different background options available. Anyway, the zoo grounds are beautiful. The exhibits are clean, huge and well taken care of. I loved all the nooks and crannies and different routes along the way. Definitely a well thought out zoo. The animals seemed very content and satisfied. I was a little underwhelmed by the lack of animals though. 1 giraffe. 1 elephant. No zebras (that we saw) no bears (that we saw) .. just a lot of animals missing. Lots of cute monkeys though!

Yelp
Really great zoo. Some of the exhibits definitely show the zoo's age but overall a really great day activity for the whole family. The sea otter trainings were super cool to watch. The baby orangutan is adorable. Some of the animals weren't out/active due to it being so hot I'm sure including the giraffes & elephants which stink since they're a large part of "going to the zoo." Lots of spaces to cool down and hide from the sun too. Can take you anywhere from 2-4 hours. The cool zoo looked nice if you had kids. the carousel is really sad lol. definitely needs a refurb.

Yelp
Expansive, well designed, and clean zoo, with interesting animals that appear well cared for. Also appreciated how informative the signs were. Went on a weekday in the summer and it was amazing - felt like we had the zoo to ourselves. The combo zoo and aquarium ticket is also well worth it!

Yelp
As someone who goes to the zoo at least once a year, I was seriously disappointed during my most recent trip. They are enforcing masking at the gate, but the whole way through the zoo I saw people with their masks off or with their noses or mouths uncovered. Social distancing was non existent. I had people walking up and standing right next to me at the exhibits and even had unmasked kids coming up right next to me and coughing. Also, half of the hand sanitizing stations were out of hand sanitizer. I will be holding off going to the zoo for the foreseeable future since they don't have masking and social distancing under control. You can have all the signs in the world, but unless you have people enforcing this people will not listen and I did not see one zoo employee correct a single guest.

Yelp
My what a BEAUTIFUL way to decorate the zoo. This was the AUDUBON ZOO LIGHTS NIGHT, idk if that was the name... All the splendor and posh that was rolled out to make this event a success was WORTH IT. The lights, colors and ambiance of the night was magical. Enjoying the lights with my family made it all magical. This was my 1st time attending this event; wait was it there 1st time having it, hmmmm... idk. At anyrate, this was a great event. Loved the lights and the exhibits. It was fun to marvel at the colors and imagine the work/effort that went into putting together the display. Made it a special night to see my former loving & always cheerful Yelp CM Morgan!!! She's a doll!!!! Also special, this was the last time we had an outing with my GRANNY! #missyouGRANNY #march82020

Yelp
The Louisiana Swamp area was cool, but was disappointed that the zoo is not very big and had a few exhibits not on display. We opted not to ride the "train" as it is more of a tram and used pathways people walked. If you're looking for a big zoo to spend all day at, go to Omaha or Kansas City.

Yelp
I lived in New Orleans 40 years ago and gave been to this zoo many times over the years. Our visit today was under the new Covid-19 regulations of social distancing. The Zoo developed a one way path to visit the exhibits, utilizing very cleverly hay bales to separate family groups. The improvements made over the years make this one of the best zoos in the country! We had a wonderful day. Staff were all so nice and helpful. Reservations are required in advance online.
