On the Grid : Armadillo’s Pillow

"Because who doesn't love a good read? Armadillo's pillow is the bookstore you've always dreamt of. With a wide selection of genres to choose from, in an even larger number of stacks, you'll always be able to stumble onto something new or old that tickles your fancy. Maybe that philosophy text you've heard so much about or that classic novel that you've never taken the time to read. Whatever it is, you'll find it here." - Sidekick Video

Was visiting Chicago for one day, lots of bookstores to choose from but I could only pick one due to time crunch, luckily I think I made the best choice. Was a cool little bookstore, small children’s section, but cheap prices! And then straight to the wildlife section where I found 3 keepers. As I was trying to walk out I kept getting pulled back in by all the other things you can buy like bookmarks, cards, art prints and stickers. Great bookstore experience for me.

Favorite bookstore of all time. Could get lost in here for hours. Tons of unique finds and out of print books in great condition and at even better prices. Love this spot.

A fun, surreal act of literary whimsy. The space is eclectic, the selection is wide and the organization is chaos in the best way. I found several odd first editions and rare finds and plenty things I’ve never seen anyplace else - if you’re in the neighborhood, definitely stop in

I've been shopping here for years and have watched it slowly go downhill, but it seems they've been making some attempts to clean up the "Hoarders" style of organization that was so popular on TV a few years ago. To sum it up, I'm copying another review from 4 years go: "I want to love this place so much more than I do. It's the only bookstore in my neighborhood. It has a good vibe. The people that work there are really kind. Their prices are extremely fair. The first time I went there I ran out of time and didn't find anything I wanted to read, so I asked the owner to recommend me anything. He ended up going in back and grabbed a copy of a Tom Robbins novel that even he hadn't read, that turned out to be one of my very favorites even to this day. But it's like a hoarder's collection of mostly free books you would find in a box on the street. It's also poorly organized so that I have to really struggle to determine exactly what section I am in (the signs are tiny and sometimes nonexistent). Unless I'm willing to spend a long time there reading every single title on the shelves until I find something worthwhile (which is difficult to do because it is so cramped), I will walk out empty handed."

A charming neighborhood bookstore with a great selection of used books. It can be a bit tricky to find something specific since there are so many books and not all are cataloged, but that’s part of the fun — you never know what hidden gem you’ll stumble upon! I found Needful Things by Stephen King, first edition, first printing, for just $7.50 ($8.26 including tax), while it’s listed for $40 on Amazon—an absolute steal! If you love browsing and discovering unexpected treasures, this place is worth a visit.

My friends and I used to frequent this book store, back when i lived in the area, more than 15 years ago. Glad to know it still exists! They'd host weekly events here back then; just a little get-together where some people would read poetry, some people would sing, play instruments. It was cozy. I hope they still do that here.

One of my favorite used bookstores in Chicago, if not the country! So adorable and cozy inside and full of interesting and unique photos, trinkets, old records, and of course the used books. There are all kinds of books of varying genres and a cozy area to read as well.

Super cozy bookstore, lots of different levels and reading nooks which definitely added to the charm. Wide and varied selection of literature, very nice 👍
