We booked Aloft as a budget hotel option for the last two days of our trip to Tulum. Not knowing what to expect in Mexico and not speaking great Spanish, a Marriott hotel felt like a safe option for the last leg of our stay. They are able to arrange COVID testing, have bikes for rent, can arrange shuttles/taxis, have a couple restaurants on premise (same kitchen?) and there are a few restaurants within walking distance. The hotel is not located on the beach, which has its ups and downs. I came to Tulum after seeing photos of yoga retreats, etc. and thought the beach would be a relaxing place. The reality is that it's a Gen Z party Mecca. It's fun to walk, but I'm glad I'm not staying down there. Conversely, we did have to make plans to seek out scenery because we weren't close to much (except a few new restaurants) at this hotel.
The rooms themselves are clean and new. Very traditional hotel feel, just decorated super hip. I'm into it. It really is beautiful. If we came again we'd def make sure to get a room with a balcony... those look dope.
Our favorite area was the kid-free rooftop infinity pool and bar.. for obvious reasons. There are shaded cabanas, plenty of chairs, and WiFi if you want key on your laptop.
My one gripe is that super base-y club music plays 24-7 in public spaces. This maybe makes sense in the afternoon/evening but there are plenty of options for music with movement that's uplifting and chill. I wish they gave more thought to cultivating a calm space in the mornings. It's jarring to walk into the lobby at 9 am to a full on dance party. Maybe I'm just old.
