Alligator Pear brings a slice of New Orleans to Midtown with its three-story, lively space, serving up Creole comfort food and potent cocktails in a chic setting.
"One of the cuisines hardest to get right in NYC is the Cajun and Creole cooking of New Orleans. Alligator Pear made an attempt when it opened this year, but there were several notable failures, including a fried catfish so thickly crusted with blue cornmeal that it had to be pounded to get at the flesh. But even worse were fresh oysters thickly coated with garlic and cheese, at five bucks a pop. What a horrifying thing to do to an oyster!" - Robert Sietsema
"Taking your team to New Orleans seems like a NSFW no-no, but you can bring a bit of (supervised) Mardi Gras energy to your team dinner at Alligator Pear. Inspired by The Big Easy, this three-story restaurant serves crowd-pleasing Creole food a couple blocks from Midtown. The two main dining rooms have their own bars, decked out with Jazz Fest posters and hanging ferns. In true NOLA spirit, the cocktails are strong, and you’ll need all the fried food you can get to soak them up. Order highly shareable servings of blue crab beignets, fried alligator bites, and family-style platters of shrimp and andouille jambalaya." - Neha Talreja, Bryan Kim, Hannah Albertine
"A NOLA-themed restaurant in Midtown, Alligator Pear is a useful spot for your next team dinner, with three stories of space and crowd-pleasing Creole food. The two main dining rooms have their own bars, decked out with Jazz Fest posters and the same hanging ferns you’ve seen on balconies in the French Quarter. In case you need somewhere discreet to hide your drunk middle managers, there’s also private dining upstairs and in the wine cellar. In true NOLA spirit, the cocktails are strong, and you’ll need all the fried food you can get to soak them up. Order highly shareable servings of blue crab beignets, fried alligator bites, and family-style platters of shrimp and andouille jambalaya. An extra round of powdered sugar beignets will keep your co-workers happy until next quarter." - Neha Talreja
"Alligator Pear will open in the Garment District from New Orleans native Dominick Lee." - Emma Orlow
