"COVID-19 update: Temporarily closed. Formerly known as Acme Bar & Grill, this old-school standby shortened its name and got a little spruced up with the help of Danish celebrity chef Mads Refslund in 2012. With the upgrade came a cool interior and an even cooler scene. The food is homey, earthy American with a twist (country toast and white asparagus hollandaise, for example), and whether you're in the mood for a meal or not, it's also worth coming here for drinks. The downstairs space (which features exposed brick walls and is usually candle-lit) is available for private events."

Google
This is a calm Tuesday night and they have only one lane open. There are only a few customers in the shop but it takes them 10-15 mins to checkout. Can’t say I’m happy about it. And the prices are not cheap either. The advantages here are it has wide range of all products including medical supplies and pills

Google
$7 for "fresh" fermented strawberries :( taste like alcohol and tingle like fizz. Definitely looked fine, but not safe to eat.

This place honestly is disgusting, today was the 3rd time I tried buying meat from here and it was completely rotten. The first time I bought chicken and brought it home, I opened up the packaging and wanted to throw up. Today I was going to buy some pork neck and I was holding the pack of meat in my hand and started to smell something funky and I poked a hole in the meat and it smelled like pure death. If you find foods that have been out of the fridge in another isle you need to throw it out not put it back. And then all you say is sorry. That can be deadly if consumed. I’ll be reaching out to corporate for sure. I don’t need an apology I need you to right your wrong and stop making me waste money time and gas coming back and forth because your store is so disgusting

Google
The self checkout gave me a counterfeit bill. Brought it to management and they did nothing Funny how management now says contact them but when I did meet with them face to face they refused any help. I have a receipt for the transaction and I will be contacting the FBI

Google
This place is awful. Products are priced wrong, produce is frequently moldy and/or rotten, its almost as if they send all their rotten produce to this store. Meats are too expensive. Courtesy desk is rude. Its sad because there are a couple of good employees here but the bad ones and the quality ruin it. Prediction: They will close within 2 years DO NOT SHOP HERE

Google
Very good store

Google
Huge, well stocked, great selection, slightly more expensive.

Google
Acme Jersey City 440 has the worst manager. The way he treats the employees and customers is unacceptable. Don’t go shopping to this place. That man seems others like they are nothing for him, disrespectful “manager”

Diondra B.

Yelp
Stopped here to grab a few things. Seems like an outdated shopping concept. The place is dated and they have very outdated business models I bought a watermelon once I got home and cut into it I saw that is was bad as it was mushy and spoiled I took it back they asked for my receipt. I didn't have the receipt anymore as I didn't expect to have to return it. Also it's 2024 who saves paper receipts anymore should be virtual options or option to look up on your card like most other modern day businesses. Doesn't make sense how outdated they are

Yelp
The staff here have always been nice and friendly to me since I have visited throughout the years. Some staff even recognize me for being a regular. This store has always been very chill to me, never any issues. They did some renovations and moved some stuff around, so it's a bit difficult to find things at times. However, that is something I'll most likely get used to with time. Compared to other grocery stores, the prices do seem a bit high, but my family and I usually come here for convenience. Whenever we don't want to cook or don't know what to cook, we grab the food that was prepared by the stands. They have always been delicious, so no complaints there. Overall, my only issue would be the pricing. If you're a frequent shopper though, you can download their App and collect points to redeem.

Yelp
Dirty, overpriced, lots of mispriced items and spoiled produce. I asked an employee about the avocados and he said if they weren't good bring them back. They weren't good and they wouldn't take them back. I asked for the phone number of corporate and Marisa fished a piece of paper out of the garbage...another clients crumpled receipt and circled the number on it. Can't wait for another supermarket to open and watch thos one close down. NOW I UNDERSTAND WHY PEOPLE SAY THERE IS NO WHERE TO SHOP IN THE NEIGHBORHOOD

Kevin B.

Yelp
Dawn responded to my previous comment asking if I would like to hear from a store manager. The answer is NO because I asked for one when I was at the store and the employee was inappropriate. I had 2 people help me and both were awful. I want to add that the florist is nice and some of the produce people are helpful but the courtesy desk is NOT courteous. Its sad. This place will close within 2 years and it cant come soon enough. I feel sorry for the employees who do a good job

Alan C.

Yelp
they close all checkout lanes and when asked fir service the response is "self-checkout only. I'm a disabled senior who can't use self-checkout. Akter some yelling from several of us they finally opened a cashier lane. And Tuesday is senior day at Acme. i put a complain on their site and got a canned reply: "I'm so sorry we missed the mark on your visit. time to find another store after shopping at this location for 35 years.

J S.

Yelp
They cleaned up the store but the deli meats are always rancid Always have a smell and strange texture Prices are high for a lower end market chain as well Idk Acme needs to do better

Chmere M.

Yelp
I spend a lot of time at Acme because it's very close. In my opinion it's more expensive than Shoprite BUT if u download the app u can get some really great deal and virtual coupons to say money!!! Def worth it!!!!!

Sandra I.

Yelp
Don't shop here everything is overpriced! I buy cat food at stop n shop that costs $12.29 n at Acme the same exact item is $14.99. They are ripping people off. Even at ShopRite the same cat food is $12.29 yet Acme charges over $2.00 more for the same items. It's disgusting how they try n take advantage of people by raising their prices. The area it's in is in no way a wealthy area yet they think it's ok to take advantage of people. The other items I buy are also far more expensive a lot of it is $3.00 to $4.00 more then ShopRite n Stop and shop. It never used to be this way. I noticed in the last year the prices go up, I stopped shopping there because of it.

Yelp
Went to buy cold cuts for my children this morning.waited 15 minutes while a Spanish woman totally ignored me.its seems she was on the phone.horrible service will not go back.

Yelp
I order groceries on line from Acme and I am 100% satisfied. I started ordering during the pandemic to minimize contact. I've continued because the customer service and the prices and the delivery care are simply enjoyable. I order the groceries and there is always a sale on something I really need. If there are any questions Eva calls me immediately. She will walk the isles with me on the phone to make sure she makes an acceptable substitution. Over the months we have grown close. We are on a first name basis and she takes her job seriously and appreciates my patronage. She speaks highly of her other regular customers as well. The fruits and vegetables are always fresh. The groceries are ALWAYS packed with care and delivered on time. If I have any issues the customer service is easy to work with and I get an immediate refund. They have the best price on water flat and sparkling so I always stock up. Oh, I almost forgot--free gifts! I get a free gift with my orders. I've received packs of natural sanitizer wipes and this time I got a trial pack of a kind of oatmeal I've never tried. We love Quaker oatmeal in this house and go through a box every two weeks. They noticed we might like this free gift. Can't wait to try it. I reckoned the order and pick up too. It's a real stress free way to grocery shop! And quick.

Yelp
Not impressed. Kind of dirty and rundown and a small store. Long wait in line. Not too cheap. Definitely will not be back in the future.

Sandra M.

Yelp
My local supermarket I love the staff & attention to detail. They are a big family there ! You have a gluten free section there & lots of healthy options . Great fiah market too! Use the app for lots of savings clip the digital coupons b4 arriving then enter you phone number to save . I always save $ on the app every time. I get free turkeys after spending $100 during thanksgiving season .

Yelp
This ACME is VERY EXPENSIVE (Do Not fall for the Buy One , Get One Free Meats promotion....just look carefully at the price of the "One" )...I prefer to burn gas and drive from Jersey City to Bayonne Shop-Rite and Bayonne Walmart for serious food shopping.....For us ACME It is located less than 1/2 mile away, so for quick shop eggs, bread, milk...it is ok, but I try to avoid it....

Greg F.

Yelp
Pass! I had a last minute stop for 2 items, and was rudely told "yo man close" at 11:44PM... I then checked the posted hours that say 12AM and told the security guard that I only need 2 items and would be out in 5 minutes.. "No sir, were closed" was the reply. So I called the store to complain and low and behold the phones are off stating the store is closed. My issue is if you are open until a certain hour, be open until that time. I had enough time to drive to the ShopRite in Bayonne, run in and out with what I needed and get home (in Jersey City) take care of incidentals and write this review at 12:50. YES, ShopRite of Bayonne didn't mind that i came in 5 min to closing. Obviously they politely stated that they were closing soon, but when I let them know I knew exactly what I was buying I got a smile and the aisles I would find each item on as a reply, not "yo man we close" I work in retail, so I get that you want to close on time and get home. But I still stay open even if a customer walks in 2 min to closing... I may not stay open long after but I'll at least hear him out and provide service. Lastly, any good reviews for this dump are mediocre at best and are probably friends of employees... Seriously a 4 star review states there's a "funny smell" in the meat department?? ( I agree I would NEVER buy anything unpackaged here )

Maciel S.

Yelp
The hot foods is good! I had chicken and mash potatoes. The ladies in the back are very nice. Also the bakery and produce section re amazing! the fruits and veggies are super fresh. The baked goods are to die for and they always have a ton of variety!

R D.

Yelp
Expensive! On more than one occasion items were much more expensive at checkout than shelf marked prices. $5.99 for a loaf of bread marked only on the shelf $3.55. I don't buy from places they try to hoodoo me. You shouldn't either.

Brian S.

Yelp
The produce and seafood department is great. When You get to the meat department there is always a funny smell. And not funny in a good way.

Susan L.

Yelp
This store is in the building that formerly housed Pathmark. We went there yesterday and the selection was certainly decent, but not as good as when it was Pathmark. The employees were mostly pleasant, although the woman at the Service Counter wasn't real friendly.

Cruz D.

Yelp
Really nothing stellar to report here. Same hum drum grocery shopping experience as the former Pathmark. Management and supervisory teams appear uncaring and a couple times I have been in the store to witness supervisors arguing openly with customers over published discounts and deals. You should read sale signs carefully as the store often mislabels items for sale, or does not take expired sales signs down. I have to wonder If they do that on purpose? Do your math to see if their buy one get one free deals are worth it. The staff behind the deli and seafood counters are super nice and always very helpful. The new pharmacist is also very helpful and professional. She was very thorough in ensuring that the proper insurance coverages were applied towards my scripts and takes the time to answer any questions you may have.

Keisha B.

Yelp
Went to so my WIC today and the cashier was very rude and needs more experience in customer care. Got mad when I told him that I gave him 3 checks. When the manager came over she opened the drawer and noticed that I was right and of course I got no apology from him. He then continue to ring my stuff up and started slamming my fruits down on the turn table. After my transaction I asked for my receipt he told me he had thrown it in the garbage. Why work if you are not happy working at there?

Joe S.

Yelp
This has the best pharmacist you will find, Felix Seo who is knowledgable, attentive and very personable with the customers.

Chris O.

Yelp
Love the staff, they must keep changing management because products are scarce..you don't get rid of Pinwheels unless you're willing to lose customers..lol..and Fresca sells; stop denying..love the store ; hate the thick pre-sliced Boarshead cold cuts..yes we know that you can make a pound with 8 slices..just be nice like we had a year ago

Brandon R.

Yelp
Disgusting. Bought a 40 oz Jar of Signature (Acme Brand) Peanut butter yesterday and the jar was full of oil and no peanut butter. The oil got all over my wife's and my daughter's clothes this morning and the jar tipped over and our kitchen is an oily mess. My wife was going to make our daughter peanut butter sandwiches to take to school. We all had to take showers and when I get home from work there is so much oil over everything in our house now that I am going to have to call a cleaning service and Acme is paying for that as well as the dry cleaning bills to clean all our clothes or I will sue them. Already contacted our lawyer. Acme is in the business of ripping customers off. They know exactly what they are doing. So you buy a 40 oz jar of peanut butter and get a 40 oz jar of oil - sickening. Go to Shop Rite or Stop N Shop in Bayonne - only 5 minutes away. Writing to their main customer headquarters in Arizona - Acme is paying for the cleaning bill to clean up their 40 oz. jar of oil all over our house and our clothes. Gross.

Jehlai V.

Yelp
This is my new to go for grocery now! A lot of varieties to choose from not to mention varieties of pastries, cookies, cake and bread are there (Im a bread lover) also convenient place to for me and its a wide place so I feel comfortable. Staff are good

Mike G.

Yelp
The worst.... Travel a little further in into Bayonne and go to stop and shop.... Much cleaner and nicer employees.

Kurt B.

Yelp
awful store. it had gone dowhill when it was still path mark but now it is the absolute pits. but i still get stuck going here because it is by far the closest supermarket and as bad as it is, it beats the pathetic bodegas in country village/greenville. Overpriced, poorly stocked shelves, lame coupon club system - you don't get the discounts in the signs unless you had already downloaded them to your phone on their app. avoid.
