"Freaks on Broadway, Westport. I have a soft spot in my heart for Freaks, as the artists here gave me my first tattoo & facial piercing during my wild & crazy college days. Freaks on Broadway employs some of the most reputable & talented tattoo artists in Kansas City. I stopped by on a Friday & watched as Cara, one of their veteran body piercers, spoke in calm & soothing tones as she pierced a customer's lower lip. The artists here are incredibly friendly & informative– they talk you through the process & manage to put you at ease, even as a needle is hovering just above your skin. They have a large portfolio of work framed in their reception area, so you have something to keep you visually distracted as you wait your turn. Each artist has their own room, so you're granted privacy as you get pierced or tatted up. While you can always show up on impulse, their artists are on high demand, so it's best to call & schedule an appointment ahead of time."
