williamsburg-ish restaurants for david to eat at
Karczma
Polish restaurant · Greenpoint
This might feel touristy (if you go, you'll see why from the decor to the staff in traditional Polish dress) but it's actually super authentic and cheap, too. When it's cold out and you need comfort food order their White Borscht served in a bread bowl ($7.50). It's made with soured flour, kielbasa and spices and served with hard-boiled egg and mashed potatoes garnished with bacon. Please get potato pancakes and lard and bread with steak tartare ... DO NOT get pierogies. Pierogies are so bland and overrated! There's so many other types of Polish food to try.
Fushimi
Japanese restaurant · Williamsburg
Rolls here are just as cheap ($7-$8) as any hole in the wall Brooklyn sushi joint but Fushimi has Vegas decor, a mirrored tunnel to a Taj Majal style bathroom situation, and a really good lunch special ($21 for 5 couses) during the week. I've probably eaten here the most out of any restaurant in Williamsburg, actually. Not sure what that says about me.
Peter Luger Steak House
Steak house · Williamsburg
Pete Wells is quite wrong about the burger. It is always good and is now served till 3pm every day, including weekends. If anyone invites me to have a burger there for lunch I'll pretty much always say yes.
Mcondo Los Tacos
Mexican restaurant · Williamsburg
I like to come here for brunch and order nachos with a side of scrambled eggs and them make them breakfast nachos. Btw, the nachos are made as *individual* nachos. As in each chip has an individual amount of even topping on it as opposed to a pile of chips with a top layer of stuff thrown on.
Acapulco
Mexican restaurant · Greenpoint
A Mexican diner that hasn't changed in the 20 years I've been eating fajitas and nachos here. It's cheap, solid and perfect for a no frills breakfast and the service is fast, too!
Il Passatore
Northern Italian restaurant · Williamsburg
Don't go particularly out of your way as the ambiance leaves something to be desired but if you're in the neighborhood and want truly excellent and affordable fresh pasta and oversized pours of wine, this is the place.
Bamonte's
Italian restaurant · Williamsburg
you really need to know what to order here to have good old school italian because the menu is so big and there's a lot of average to medicore dishes. stick with the classics: shrimp parmigiana, gnochhi, vokda sauce and bolognese and veal marsala. and very affordable italian red wine.
Rule of Thirds
Japanese restaurant · Greenpoint
the pancakes and the breakfast sandwiches are fun and a good deal for brunch. the buddhist duck banquet is lovely for a special occasion.
Ammazzacaffè
Italian restaurant · Williamsburg
Excellent homemade pasta and delicious duck. A really good looking happy hour that I keep forgetting about.
Antidote
Chinese restaurant · Williamsburg
solid "modern" Chinese that unfortunately has live jazz on Wednesdays
