Inside the 610 loop, on the southwest side of downtown Houston, are the neighborhoods of West University, Rice, and the Museum District. They are beautiful areas with mature trees and so much to eat, drink, and do. If you're visiting the Texas Medical Center, these are the closest areas to go for fun. Local Foods - Rice Village

New American restaurant · Pemberton

"Keeping It Local at Houston's Local Foods You can feel the energy of this place just by walking in the door: the decor and design speak for its commitment to simple, clean, and fresh. Then, you take a look at the menu. Local Foods has a gourmet selection of sandwiches, salads, and prepared meals with local ingredients. With options like a Gulf Shrimp & Blue Crab sandwich, or a Summer Harvest Salad, this will be your favorite new "local" spot."

The Ginger Man

"A Beer near the University If you're looking for a really relaxed local bar, head to The Ginger Man on Morningside. This beer bar has been here for a really long time, and is a good place to find real Houstonians, especially Rice professors and students."

Torchy's Tacos

Mexican restaurant · Virginia Court

"Damn Good Tacos at Torchy's Eat at Torchy's Tacos and you might get an addiction. They're ridiculously good and priced between $2.25 and $4.75 a piece. Try the Fried Avocado and The Democrat for a good time. They're open from 7 a.m. on weekdays and from 8 a.m. on the weekends for breakfast. Photo via Torchy's Tacos Facebook page"

Fellini Caffè

Cafe · Pemberton

"Have a Sip of Italy in Houston Open since the fall of 2013, Fellini serves authentic Italian-style coffee in a shop designed to resemble one of Italy's sidewalk cafes. They use Lavazza coffee beans to make elegant coffee drinks that you won't find other places. The cafe is located within the Rice Village shopping area, so it's a great place to start or end a retail adventure. Photo via Fellini Caffe Facebook page"

Filled with interactive exhibits, the Children's Museum not only makes for a fun-filled day, it's also an educational center that teaches children real-world skills through experiential projects and discovery."

You'll find a mix of national chains like Urban Outfitters and Half-Price Books, along with lots of local boutiques. Don't miss Rice Village!"
