Coming from Orange County, California, I make an annual visit to Phoenix and my hunt for some good New York-style pizza led me to Ziggy's Magic Pizza Shop and Stardust Pinbar. The best part? It's conveniently within walking distance of my Airbnb. For lunch, my boyfriend and I got: Pepperoni Slice $3.75 | Maui Waui Slice $4.25 | Side of Ranch 0.50¢ | Combo Special - Any 2 Slices With A Fountain Drink (Pepperoni and The Boss Slice) $9.00
Ziggy's truly lives up to its claim of being a New York-style pizzeria. The classic Pepperoni Slice was a delicious initiation, and the Maui Waui and The Boss slices didn't disappoint either. The thin, slightly crispy, and chewy crust with the perfect cheese and toppings ratio showcased the quality of their ingredients. The tomato sauce, mozzarella, pepperoni, ham, pineapple, sausage, and bacon all demonstrated a commitment to excellence. The bright red sauce, reminiscent of authentic NY pizza, struck a delightful balance between sweetness and acidity. Even their ranch dressing stood out, offering a fresh and creamy alternative to the typical store-bought options. And for those who question pizza with ranch - I stand by it, I NEED MY RANCH. While I wished for a slightly crispier crust and a tad less sauce, the overall pizza experience was solid. Two slices proved to be the ideal lunch portion, with the Pepperoni Slice standing out as my personal favorite. Finding genuine NY pizza in OC is a challenge, and while Ziggy's might not match the standards of a pizzeria in New York, it comes remarkably close and satisfies the craving.
Situated in Downtown Phoenix, the parking situation appeared reasonable with a small lot out front and paid street parking. The friendly service and fair pricing, considering the quality and quantity, make Ziggy's a worthwhile visit. The cute decor exudes the vibe of a typical grab-and-go NY pizzeria, complete with outdoor seating. While indoor seating is not available, the attached arcade bar, Stardust Pinbar, provides a unique solution. Accessible through a secret speakeasy entry, it immerses you in the '70s and '80s disco aesthetics, with a color-changing dance floor and a Mars Attacks! theme. The bar offers a variety of pinball machines. During my Sunday visit around 12 PM, there was no wait, and the bar offered ample seating. You bet I went and played some pinball.
