"A King Street staple for more than twenty years, Worthwhile is located in the old McIntosh Seed House, which is an old general store. It’s hard to make generalizations about the buy here since it’s simultaneously eclectic and very intentional; you’ll find everything from Elder Statesmen and Isabel Marant to quirky local lines, plus a very cool selection of home goods and beauty products displayed on stunning wood built-in shelving–including our very own goop fragrance. Great news: If you aren’t heading to Charleston anytime soon, they have a great online shop."

"There was a store I kept passing on my wanderings round town. Worthwhile it was called, and I would peek through its windows curiously. There were beautiful wood-paneled shelves full of handmade jugs and mugs, intellectual-looking Japanese clothing, cut on the bias. When I eventually made it in—our mutual timings finally synchronized—I ended up buying a huge, beautiful, corn-colored hand-stitched quilt, but also a funny little light in the shape of a croissant that would glow when you touched it. That summed up Charleston, South Carolina, for me: well-made, thoughtful, sophisticated, not without a certain humor. It is a city for wandering alone, for getting lost, its neighborhoods revealing themselves like stage screens in the theater. The colors of its clapboard buildings and their shutters, unfolded like book covers, open to a bright new day. A sea-salty tang on the air from the water, the tropical palms...you're reminded all the time just how south—how practically Caribbean—you really are. Everyone says hello, with a smile, a ready laugh. It might have something to do with the fact that everyone is out on the street, eating something delicious in the sunshine on a rickety sidewalk, a glass of wine the size of a cantaloupe in their hands."

A must stop-in whilst in Charleston! Such friendly staff, and always a well curated selection of the most exquisite garments and goods. I actually purchased socks on my last trip in, and got them home to find that they were defective. A quick email to worthwhile, and they had a new pair promptly shipped to my home. Such a friendly and helpful bunch here! Thanks worthwhile team!

Google
Best shop I visited while in Charleston for 3 days. Fashion-forward clothing from international designers both known and yet to be heard of, interesting/fun/beautifully-made home goods, deliciously scented goodies, unique jewelry... The space is well thought out and the wares carefully curated. This place could exist and thrive in any major city, which is something I cannot say of their King Street competitors. Bravo, Worthwhile, I can’t hardly wait to come back!

Google
We are visiting Charleston this week and discovered a fabulous store called Worthwhile This is my kind of store. Very helpful salespeople, beautifully material and stunning styled clothing. I was so pleased to discover they sell on line. You have a new customer. Maggie

The owner is very honest and you can trust that you are getting a fair price for your purchase. If you shop Rick Ownes, they actually marked it way lower than a big store, like Saks. High end, but down to earth and I always feel at home in their environment. Best store in Charleston if you like unique clothing.

Google
Worthwhile is that place you go to find elegantly simple, unique clothing made of beautiful cottons and other materials and feels like something you’d find in Soho NYC. Very hip vibe. It’s about craftsmanship. I’ve gotten a few jewelry pieces from one of their artisans I treasure. The packaging alone is worth the purchase of jewelry... the artist creates a box worthy of the piece and is every bit as much as important. The fun part is one will find household treasures, gifts as well. No visit to Charleston is complete without a visit to Worthwhile for me.

Stopped in on a whim and encountered a wonderland of bespoke clothing, accessories and home goods — one of the most unique stores I’ve ever been to in the South. The Astier de Villatte incense is to die for!

My wife visited this store on a trip with some of her girlfriends. She told me she wished she had purchased a bracelet she saw in the store. I followed up with the store and they helped me identify and purchase the bracelet so I could surprise my wife. The customer service was excellent.

I'm so inspired by what the team here is doing. The store is really something to experience. The associate was kind, thoughtful and well informed. The visual and the assortment were something I'll be thinking about for a very long time.

Yelp
Really beautifully curated store full of unique and avant garde clothing, jewelry and a bit of house ware items like ceramics and candles. This is definitely a boutique store with pricing that will make your eyeballs pop out but you would be hard pressed to find any of the one-of-a-kind pieces from designers that are mostly based in NY, LA, London or Paris anywhere else. My only negative is that no one really acknowledges you until you flag down the owner or another associate. Once it appeared that I was indeed going to purchase something the owner was very helpful and friendly.

Yelp
Nice selection. Despite no man selection it is still pleasant to my eye. Background music was "I'll look around" by Madeline Peyroux which was match to the atmosphere. Service... lol, but you being judged. If you don't dressed up, and looking prosperous you will be treated like second class. Oh well, this is Charleston and this is classy way to say that you're crap.

Yelp
We walked in and were not greeted at all. My adult son asked how much an unmarked furniture item was and the grey haired horrid woman told him it was not for sale and if it was, he wouldn't be able to afford it. I overheard and my son gave me that look to get out of the store before I let loose on the disgusting, dreadful woman. And yes, he came from New York to shop and could afford anything in your store. It is so sad because we love Charleston as it is my home. I felt terrible that he was treated so badly in a town known for it's Southern hospitality.

Yelp
Totally over the top women's fashion, I love it. This is not for everyone, but growing up and then working in fashion in London, this is a too rare find in the U.S. In business along King Street since 1993, the very friendly staff offers couture versions of All Saints clothing, a mix of ethereal mostly unconstructed fashion mixed with a bit of Victorian whimsy. The only downside here are the prices. These dresses and coats are mostly imports finished by hand and in small quantities. That costs a small fortune, out of my reach unfortunately. Still, I give it five stars for my bucket list in case I hit the lottery. This is one of the first stores I will visit after collecting my winnings :-)

Yelp
Another fantastic store that I wish they had in Atlanta! Worthwhile is definitely one of those places you would run into if you are looking for a quick gift on your way to a birthday or date. They have everything from women's clothing, accessories for your home, candles, body fragrances, and other fun kitchy items. Some of the items to highlight are their purses/bags, books, and jewelry. All are very affordable and very unique. They also have a lot of cool gifts that I could only find on line like the flower seed that grows a message! I highly recommend to check this store out when you are in Charleston. It's also nice to see that you can shop on line at their website!

Yelp
A world of its own, artist adventure. Tweed is an engaging knowledgeable find. Playground for the seriously talented cut above.

Yelp
Such a cute and unique store! The employees are so helpful and can tell you everything you need to know about the items they have. An over the top store that you won't be able to find anywhere else for sure! highly recommend stopping by if you're in town.

Yelp
This is a cool little store right in the thick of things on King Street. The front has household odds and ends with modern design flair. They have a few Alessi chachkas and some interesting books. The also have a few baby items and the back is all womens' clothes.

Dmitriy V.

Yelp
Poor business ethics - three words that describe 'not so worthwhile'. Owners placed a stock order over a year ago and never paid, so overseas supplier is still tying to recover losses. The product was of the highest quality, bespoke and hand made by a craftsman who put blood, toil, tears, and sweat into it. So if you feel like buying what was stolen, go for it.

Yelp
This boutique is rad. My only complaint is they don't carry men's clothes. But if you have seen the way 99.9% of the guys in The South dress, it makes sense. This is not an "All Saints type store". These are the clothes All Saints tries to knock off. If you are in Charleston, shop here.

Yelp
The store looks empty and I took a peek at some price tags which were astronomical. I purchased a large canvas beach tote, which they didn't have a bag for. I carried it around while I shopped for hours on King St. I was disappointed to see that the rough texture of the bag actually destroyed the Saks dress I was wearing. The 1/2 price beach bag ended up destroying a $100 dress. No fun.....

Yelp
I find it a little strange that all but one of Worthwhile's other reviewers have been men. It sells avant-garde clothing and shoes, unique jewelry, and home goods in a great utilitarian-industrial space. Definately worth visiting if you need some Swedish crayons, sandalwood candles or just to check out the well-edited inventory.

Kimberly T.

Yelp
I always look foward to going into Worthwhile when I am downtown. Wonderful candles and shelves of cool things to check out!

Yelp
Fantastic buying, great store design, and lovely surprise of high fashion in the back. Drawbacks: the mark up is high and the owner could brush up on her listening skills. If you're shopping from out of state - have it shipped and save on tax.

Yelp
While at first glance this appears to be another King Street store catering to those with a bottomless budget, the household goods and clothing they sell here are definitely a cut above the rest. Ok, so the prices are a cut above as well, but the sale rack offers some pretty good bargains and would be worth perusing every other week or so as new items are added. They stock a small selection of whimsical Orla Keily handbags, which my wife loves but refuses to shell out the big bucks to own. Lo and behold we found a wallet for half price on the sale shelf, so she left the place happy as a bee. Plenty of other dreamy gifts and kooky books to browse and bemuse yourself with while shuffling up the King.

Yelp
I love this store. It's like a high end all saints clothing store with sweaters and dresses that could be two months rent but would be utterly fabulous. Their candles and books are fun to play with. If I had 6 grand to blow I'd drop it all here. Seriously.

Yelp
Worthwhile is, without question, my favorite shop on King Street. Everything they carry is so unique and hand-crafted. My most recent purchase was a pair of recycled paper bowls, and they're amazing. I love the Orla Kiehly bags and the paper products (Im addicted to paper products!). My only regret is that they no longer carry Campers shoes which are truly the greatest. Sigh...

Yelp
By far the coolest store I saw during my visit (from Los Angeles) to Charleston. Beautiful selections from the ultra-chic owner in a gorgeous space.

Sara K.

Yelp
Worthwhile is easily one of my favorite shops in Charleston, certainly my favorite for clothing! They have a unique, well-curated selection of impossible to find (in charleston) brands, some great home decor finds, helpful & friendly staff too.

Yelp
Nice place to buy small gifts. Unique things. It's one of the few locally owned shops in the King St. area

Yelp
Before my visit to Charleston, I made a list of boutiques I wanted to visit. Wothwhile was high on the list, so I was excited when I came upon the store on King Street. When I walked in I was immediately stricken by the minimalist look and rather depressing vibe. The mood of the store was very dark and kind of creepy. "Are they going out of business?", I wondered as the first shelving unit to my right contained sparse rows of these paper house-shaped box thingies. The next shelf housed sad little white faceless Tyvek teddy bears. Eek. The clothing racks were stocked with very avant garde - and VEEEEERY pricy - clothing from mainly Japanese designers. Now, I can appreciate Japanese design, but the items they carried were something I could only describe as Depression Era Chic. A $1,200 dress that looked like great-great grandma's nightie that had been sitting in the attic for the past 100 or so years, and $1,100 for a dress that seriously looked like it had some sort of bodily fluid stains all over it. No joke. The whole experience was bizarre and a bit...unsettling. I guess I'm not as hip as I thought, because I really just did not get it.
