"Wherewithall, 3472 N. Elston Avenue, aimed to give Avondale an affordable and dependable prix fixe meal, casually introducing customers to fine dining. Opened in July 2019, it initially earned positive attention. The pandemic and dining restrictions halted its momentum. A sewer line collapse in May caused further damage, with repairs needed for the pipe system. These challenges, along with the pandemic, led to the decision not to reopen." - Ashok Selvam

" In the world of Chicago tasting menus, Wherewithall in Avondale is downright affordable, clocking in at $85 for four courses. But you know what’s even more affordable? Their bar menu. That’s where you can order dishes like steak frites, prawns, and various other snacks ranging in price from $5-$25. And just like the restaurant, the casual front bar area feels like you’re  hanging out at a dinner party, but with no appetizers from Trader Joe’s. Plus, there’s a lovely secluded courtyard for when it’s nice enough to hang outside. " - adrian kane

"We can usually tell right away whether or not we’re going to have a good time at a dinner party (jumping dogs and Pillsbury tubes are a bad sign). Wherewithall feels a lot like a fun dinner party—starting with the friendly host and servers, followed by a fantastic $85 four-course (plus some snacks) tasting menu that changes literally every day. Halfway through the meal, we wanted to ask for the recipe to the current and sheep’s milk cheese-topped duck breast, and find out exactly where they get their bread (it’s Middle Brow Bungalow). Most importantly, this restaurant showed us that kalamata olive crumbles make an excellent ice cream topping. " - adrian kane
