The hubs and I had tried to dine here last year during our trip down to xc ski at Allegany, but West Rose was closed at that time, so this time around we made sure to double check hours and make a reservation. They have limited hours, Thursdays through Sundays, and close at 8 pm. We made a reservation for 6:30 pm, but got lost skiing the trails at Art Roscoe in Allegany State Park, and extended til 7 and again til 7:15. We cut it a little close but we made it!
We walked in to a very chill atmosphere: few folks dining at the bar, pizza oven blazing in the open kitchen like a fireplace, several tables for two set, waiting for patrons, and a really cozy decor with lots of wood accents, plants, and white and neutral tones.
The hostess was ready for us and sat us immediately, and when we announced to our lovely server that we were STARVING after 2.5 hrs xc skiing over at Allegany, she told us she would let the kitchen know. Not expecting too much, I settled in to wait with my phone, and the hubs went outside for a cig. And miraculously, within 10 min our food arrived!!
We ordered the double cheeseburger, which comes with a dressed side salad; the burger was on a soft sesame-seed bun, with minimal condiments and a couple small gherkin-sized dill pickles. It was large, so we asked for a second small plate so we could cut it in half to share. It was cooked perfectly, the meat very well seasoned and the perfect temp - the fact that it was 'plain' (just cheese, no mayo or ketchup, no sliced tomato or onion) didn't matter because it was that juicy and flavorful.
We also got the patatas bravas and the shaved brussels sprouts salad. The patatas bravas were prepared really nicely: crispy outside and soft inside, generously seasoned and served with a creamy vegan aioli. But the shaved brussels sprouts were the star of the show! Sitting atop a pillow of cashew butter, then topped with pomegranate seeds and a drizzel of sesame oil, this vegan salad was tender, fragrant, flowery, savory - all the things!! It also perfectly complimented the burger and patatas!
Because we shared everything we still had room for dessert. I've been following their Instagram and saw this chocolate concoction that looked absolutely decadent, so we ordered that. It was a chocolate, hazelnut, caramel tart, with almond butter and a smear of chocolate ganache - it was rich but also light, perfect for sharing, and the kind of special treat that really caps off a simple but delicious meal.
We live in Rochester and don't make it down here often, but I would drive 2 hrs one way just for another meal like that! If you are in town, definitely plan a dinner here at least one night, and leave room for dessert!
