"Before becoming a small tavern, this hole-in-the-wall spot served as a cooper’s workshop that made barrels for the local winemakers. Today, its modest confines have been made cozy with a few wooden tables (actually former workbenches), a smattering of candles, and old tools from the workshop. Its appeal lies not just in the convivial atmosphere that comes from being a family-run restaurant since 1992, or the fact that strangers eat in close quarters, but also in the hearty menu, which offers classic dishes from Baden and the Pfalz region like Schäufele (pickled and slightly smoked pork shoulder), Saumagen (sow’s stomach stuffed with meat and potatoes), schnitzel, and deliciously creamy Käsespätzle . The wines are also excellent, meaning Schnitzelbank is usually packed. Arrive early for a better chance at a table."

Came here because of the amazing reviews and they did not disappoint. Service was amazing, venue perfect and the food was mouth watering. Portions are well worth the money, so big I had to save half !! Authentic German restaurant. I would return again and again. We loved it so much. Whole restaurant was completely full after 15 minutes of opening.

What an incredible experience from start to finish! Comfortable and interesting atmosphere, amazing service, great selection of wines, and absolutely delicious food. The pictures and reviews won’t ever capture it. It’s one of the places you have to experience and enjoy yourself. Will be back soon and definitely recommend to others.

The schnitzel with peppercorn sauce was one of the best meals I had during my family’s trip to Heidelberg. The service and atmosphere were outstanding. If you have a smaller group you may end up sitting with others at one of the community tables. I highly recommend you check out the Schnitzelbank!

My son and I were in Heidelberg in late September 2024. He found this place while doing a Google search and we decided to check it out for dinner. What an awesome discovery! It's a small quaint place with several superb outdoor tables and located fairly close to a river. We decided to sit outside, as the weather was perfect. We both had escargot for appetizers with a delicious German reisling. The escargot were perfect. Both of us ordered schnitzel (of course) which also was very delicious! We finished with apple strudel for dessert, which was the perfect ending to a traditional German meal. Our server was extremely helpful and took exception care of us. I will remember this experience very fondly for many many years.

Schnitzelbank offers a great atmosphere, tucked away from the hustle and bustle. The ambiance inside is a real treat, making for a cozy dining experience. I ordered the special, and the schnitzel was delicious, paired perfectly with refreshing beer. The two servers worked together seamlessly, providing fantastic service. As a solo diner, I found it easy to grab a seat. Don’t hesitate—definitely go!

Really had a great dinner here! The Schnitzel and the service was really good. The waitresses were really kind and fun. Just make sure that you are okay eating with sharing table with other guests. Definitely will be coming back!
