"Wagyu katsu sando (beef cutlet sandwiches) have been around for a long time, but under the able hands of Hisato Hamada, the dish is hip and cool. The sleek, Instagram-friendly, stand-and-eat shop is in the trendy Nakameguro area along the Meguro River. Diners select a cut of marbled beef, ranging in price from 2,000 to 20,000 yen ($19–$190), which is then breaded, deep-fried, and served as a sandwich. Truffle fries and salads round out the menu. Drinks include an impressive selection of craft beers, wine, and champagne."

"Wagyu Mafia started as a private, invitation-only supper club, then grabbed headlines when it spun off this gyu-katsu (breaded beef cutlet) outlet, featuring wagyu versions up to 20,000 yen ($200) for a chateaubriand steak sandwich. There are plenty of cheaper cuts too, down to the 1,000-yen menchi (minced beef) option. But for those splurging, it also offers Opus One by the glass." - Robbie Swinnerton

Google
SCAM! Presenting prices between 100 and 500 yen for a small piece of bread (around 1x2cm per piece). When you ask the bill they write down the bill with pen and paper adding two zero's (x100) to the original price. For 8 TINY pieces the bill was >50.000 yen (= >300 euro/dollar). And they don't accept card payment because of some error with wifi, only cash (very suspicious, same excuses i read in other reviews). With two mixed up explainations which arent logical at all. First the prices are x100 in Yen, and few min later the prices are in USD (in Japan??). Don't go if you don't want to be scammed.

Nicest guys in the world, very personal experience and worth the cost. The food was amazing and the service was even better.

Google
Really friendly staff! We had the Zabuton fillet and the Gigolo minced patty. Both were excellent cooked well. We also tried the truffle fries, they were very tasty but were a small portion and a little cold.

Google
Probably the best sando I’ve ever had. But it better be the case, given the price! Come for the hype, it’s a one on one experience, the food is great but pricey. So be clear why you want to splurge on this and don’t think twice!

Google
Awesome. Thanks guys for a great night. Insanely good. Had the place to myself and as a result was able to spend time and learn so much about the process, background and approach to preparation.

Google
The place is simply designed, no ambience whatsoever. All the cut is at 100 gram. Ordered the wagyu sirloin at USD80. Does the cutlet taste good.. yes Will I visit again... no Was it worth the money... Something is lacking in this place. You feel the place so cold, not just on ambience but there’s no interaction except for a waitress asking the same question from one customer to another, trying to strike a conversation and to take a photo for their instagram. I would wish someone telling me about the bread, the sauce, the beef, how it was done. I left the place wondering how it can be better.

Google
The experience is lackluster for the price! The sandwich was ok, have had better from an organic grass fed steak on a grill in my backyard. We ordered two sandwiches, and realized after we paid, that it was $400 worth of sandwiches! You pay for the gold flakes. Even if the sandwiches were $40 a piece it would be a stretch… Don’t waste the money - try a different place, check the price, and don’t get taken. The atmosphere is nothing special at all, and played very ADD type music.

Google
Breaded Wagu and Kobe Beef sandwiches, what’s there not to love! There is a verity of cuts of meat to chose from as well as a breaded minced beef (burger meat). The staff are super helpful and will explain the different cuts. You can taste the difference between the meat cuts as will you need to dig deeper into your pocket. You will still find the meat juicy and amazing regardless of the cut which makes this a nice restaurant. There is outdoor seating with decent viewers of the river as there is a few seats on a long table inside.

Yelp
I'm glad I got to try this place. Seen it online before I came to Japan and decided to preorder. This is a small place , so reservations are required if you are eating in to try their delicious sandwiches. Service was excellent. It's a very small and cute interior with room for a table and bar seating. But it's the wagyu sandwiches that you come for. We ordered Ozaki tenderloin sandwiches for the kids and the Chateaubriand for us. The tenderloin sandwiches were tender and soft, a little fattier cut, but so good. Their chateaubriand was excellent! It was a thick cut of meat cooked to perfection. It was moist, tender and tasted really good. They even do a little gold dusting show for you. Really good sandwich, will come back again.

Yelp
Bamboozled. That's the first word I thought of after my first bite. You're paying very western pries for a meager amount of what I believe is high quality wagyu but with the way it was cooked... I honestly couldn't tell. The staff were energetic and friendly but it was just a tad bit awkward when I tried to hide my disappointment with the sandwich. We walked across the river to Iroha sushi and had a full meal after. $4-5/Uni nigiri made our stomachs happier/

Yelp
I've been following Hamada-san on IG for quite some time now and finally had the opportunity to visit their cutlet sandwich store in Meguro during our last trip. Love how they engage their customers during the meal which makes it unique and fun. Their other locations require a membership in order to dine with them which makes it a semi private experience. The cutlet outlet doesn't require advance reservations or a membership so this gives the general public a preview of what the full blown wagyu meal is like at their Butcher shop. Knowing we had a dinner reservation at Sézanne later that night, we ended up sharing 2 sandwiches and fries. The truffle fries were fried to a perfect golden brown and were well seasoned. As my wife and friend aren't big wagyu eaters, we opted for the leaner sirloin and menchi katsu sando. Simply put, the cutlet sandwiches were awesome and loved their house hot sauces. Was a fun experience and think I'd try to get a membership if my wife was a bigger meat eater. We were also lucky enough to get samples of their ultra highball and ultra garlic potato chips. The chips were so good that I ended up bringing home 12 bags!! Look for them at Family Marts throughout Japan!!

Yelp
I'm disappointed to say that the châteaubriant completely lacked flavour. Ambience was underwhelming. Gimmicky and unfortunately seems like a marketing scam. Not worth the visit

Yelp
I came here on a tuesday afternoon. It was rainy and I managed to find it. Located behind a building, I entered and ordered the knuckle. It was $30 USD. They have even more expensive sandwiches that go up to $200 USD for the Kobe beef. I waited about 15 minutes for my sandwich to come to my table. I took a bite. Although it was good, I didn't think it was worth $30 USD. I even bit into some connective tissue. The beef was good and it was soft to the bite. But it's definitely overpriced. I wouldn't come again.

Yelp
Saw this place on YouTube and I had to check it out. My thought is if you sale a Katsu Sando with wagyu beef that costs $321 (35,000 yen), it has got to be good. I opted to go with the Kobe Sirloin this time which cost $165 (18,000 yen) because I was told it had great marbling and it did not disappoint. Each bite of this katsu sando was incredibly juicy and well worth the money spent. Oh and don't forget the add some Wagyusco if you go. Even though it looked small it was definitely filling. But thinking I'll buy 2 next time. Lol. I am definitely looking forward to going back next spring.

Yelp
This was one of our stops while vacationing in Japan. After hearing so much about wagyu sandwich we had to try it. We had the Kobe beef tenderloin and the wagyu tenderloin. Both was great, I prefer the Wagyu Tenderloin while my friend preferred the other. Also, they have their own hot sauce which is really good too!

Yelp
What sandwich costs 4000-20000 yen (roughly 40-200 us $!)? A pure Wagyu beef sandwich. On the lower end you have the Japanese Zabuton cut (pillow). On the high end you could get an A5 Chateaubriand. That's some serious scratch. Luckily for us we ran into the owners one night post drinking and bonded over ramen, and then got invited to try some of said samples of beef. Very tasty but since it was late night not during retail operations, this is a somewhat biased and one off viewpoint. Soft fatty beef melts in your mouth and simply seasoned. Compared to say the multi sliced, tomato spread one youd get at say Shima in Nihonbashi, it's just yet another awesome food genre that seems to exist only in Japan. Or does it? They also told us theyre opening none other than in San Francisco where I live. fuck Yeah. Super nice people, tasty food and great hospitality. Now when i go home I can look forward to getting the beef again. Just probably not under the same circumstances.

Yelp
Wow. They have 6 different grades of meat for sandwiches. We had 3 different selections. Wagyu Zabuton, Wagyu Sirloin and Kobe Sirloin. All spectacular. Truffle fries were also very good. Very special treat. Nice staff. Limited seating.

Yelp
came here in search of "THE WAGYU SANDWICH" thats hitting social media like crazy. yup, got emails about them and how its making their way to the US. since im in japan, i need to try the OG. came here for lunch and the owner was a one man show. he warmed up after a little bit we began talking. he was nice and thanks his customers on IG all the time, which is nice. got the Wagyu sando, which was bomb. the meat was nice and tender and in between 2 slices of super soft and fluffy toasted white bread with their yuzu tabasco sauce and truffle salt was amazing. the price surprised me when i looked at my credit card bill, but whatever, i was on vacation and it was a great experience and taste to my mouth and belly.it coast about $95 for that sando, but man, i dream about it all the time. they have all sorts of cuts and less expensive sandos too.
