Highly highly recommend this place!! They went above and beyond, and the food is absolutely delicious make reservations, way in advance, sometimes you can't get in until late evening.

This was a highly recommended restaurant in Glasgow so my friends and I came here for dinner on a weekday. We made a reservation in advance. Getting into the restaurant as a bit confusing (there's a bar on the bottom and you'll need to go up the stairs to enter the restaurant. We shared dishes family style but noticed other people had individual dishes. We ordered the following: - Burrata - the burrata was very fresh and the blistered tomato's were yummy - Calamari - rather on the small side, but the batter was light and crunchy - Falafel - I thought I'd like this more, but the falafel was a tad dry - Steak frites - a good plate to share if you're wanting some red meat, but not wanting to be too unhealthy - Mac and cheese - I can't get enough of dairy in the UK and this dish was no exception Service was on the slow side and we had to follow up multiple times to get water refills. The ambiance is really nice and bright. Washrooms are available by the bar area. It's a good spot for a corporate meal or a date night.

Tucked behind the bustle on Ashton Lane, enjoy something uniquely Ubiquitous. The downstairs dining room wasn't available so we ended up in a way better spot upstairs. Of course I was here with all the ladies who began taking pics of all the greenery, because rooftop dining in the rainy season here is an arboretum with great food. The rest were busy splitting a bottle of white while I enjoyed the Local Chip, which of course was exclusively brewed for this place. There are a few other UK locals if interested. The charcuterie was decadent yet different, featuring chilled shellfish, and they pulled it off. We skipped the small plates but gnudi and venison were tempting (besides it's "Chip's own"). As with the wine, this group seems to like similar stuff, so two got seabass and loved it. I was going Bavette steak all the way, and it was a solid choice. You'll also find some nice vegetarian dishes along the way. Somewhere in there they talked themselves into bottle #2, and why not? Affogatto does nicely for a pseudo dessert, and of course the sharers shared some lemon & poppyseed cake. Don't worry about missing out on menu items if you're upstairs either, because you'll have virtually the same choices. Great service and memorable eating made the evening go by too quickly. We'll hopefully return quickly.

Last dinner in Glasgow and it was great. Had the Bouillabaisse and BF had the Sea Bass with Lentils. Decent portions and both were between 21-23 pounds. Great atmosphere and staff were attentive.

Its a fantastic place to spend time and the food is equally wonderful, however for the bustle and lack of refinement i find the prices a bit over the top in comparison to some equally good alternatives. Good location very close the to underground and on Ashton Lane.

The location is a bit quirky, but the food was amazing. It was one of the best meals I have had all year. Service was impeccable and lovely ambiance.

Mark sat us for our reservation at 6:30p and then 20 minutes later took our drink order. While informative on the menu, the visit left us wondering why we waited until the end of our long holiday to celebrate at the UbiChip. When we come back to Glasgow next month we will try the fixed menu.

Fun atmosphere and yummy food. Not an extensive wine selection but enough to make easy choices and lots of gin to choose from. Busy and reservations are a must.

Highly recommend. I had one evening in Glasgow and I am pretty sure I could not have picked a better spot to spend it. "Chip" is in a fun, lively alley. I recommend walking around the neighborhood first, and then checking out the different spaces of the restaurant itself before you are seated. I can't pick a favorite. The bars looked fun (especially the little bar), the rooftop was cozy and unique, the fine dining space looked beautiful, and the mezzanine, where I sat, was so unique and special. Drinks were good, and the food was great. The mussels were TO DIE FOR! A must-do in Glasgow.

Quite simply I think this is the best restaurant in all of Scotland! Not only does it have a fine dining restaurant, but it has a casual upstairs bistro, and a pub, you really can't go wrong! This restaurant in this whole area of Ashton Lane was recommended to us by some friends from Scotland... This whole area is really great so spend the evening here and pop into a couple spots. This should be your spot for dinner 100%. We initially made a reservation in the high end dining room, but after looking at the prices and realizing we were in the mood for more casual and quicker dinner, we asked to switch upstairs to the bistro. They were happy to accommodate which was very nice. We had a very nice mix of lots of different food, they have a lot of different small sharing plates, as you can see from the pictures the presentation is incredible. The muscles were just amazing! The highlight though of the meal was the haggis... Something that can be done very terribly as a foreigner if you know what I mean... This was probably one of the best dishes I tasted on our trip, and obviously the best haggis I've ever had in my life. It's a 52 year old recipe and it does not disappoint, it basically tastes like the most perfectly seasoned ground up little bits of meat that have all the little gamey pieces and organ pieces that are interesting but not over the top. Served with purée of parsnips and potatoes and an incredible gravy that makes it just perfect. The highlight of our trip food wise!

~*~*~ pre-covid review ~*~*~ This is one of those places that makes you miss travelling. Once you entered the space, you'll find yourself situated in a green, garden-y space, surrounded by natural light and plenty of plants, completely different from how it looks outside. We had our first taste of haggis here, which we promptly fell in love in, reputations be damned -- plus it's quite remarkable considering the mister is quite squeamish about animal inside bits. They also have an array of other Scottish fare, like neeps and tatties, smoked fish dip, but they also make a really good steak. Everything we tasted was delicious, and traveling from the crazy expensive west coast of USA, the prices was very reasonable to us as well. If you want something to wash down all the food, they have a nice gin menu, where they will pair different tonic and garnishes with the specific gins you pick. I already love gin and tonics, and this took it to the next level for me. This is one of those places that you couldn't miss if you are in town. Heck, if you are within train travel distance, this is probably worth the trip.

Great service of delicious food in a classy setting. Your best bet for a great dinner in Glasgow.

I came for dinner on a Monday night. It was very busy, and I was glad I had made a reservation. It was a little tricky to figure out where to go to find my table. The part of the restaurant I reserved a table was in the upstairs area. When I arrived, I went upstairs. There wasn't any servers in sight so I stood there for about 10 minutes before I finally found a server and asked where I should go for my reserved table. The server was nice and gave me recommendations from the menu. The black bean and chickpea burger was on the bland side and was incredibly dry. The rhubarb and custard was excellent. Tangy, creamy and sweet. I think if I were to come here again, I'd book a table at a different part of the restaurant.

I first came to UC back in 2015 and was awed and blown away. I certainly did enjoy the food here this time around, but I have also found other spots in Glasgow and Edinburgh that have comparable pricing but much more delicious tasting menus. I'd rate my experience here at 3.5 stars. The wine pairing was excellent. The wine alone tasted not as good as the accompanying wine with the matching dish. Service was superb. The Glasgow accent is thick and sometimes hard to make out what they're saying. The lad that served our wine knows a lot about wine! Would I return the next time I travel to Glasgow and Edinburgh? Who knows???? We shall see what the world looks like in 5+ years! I had a pleasant experience nonetheless b

I'm going to give this three stars because the service was terrible even though our food was good. We got the distinct impression they weren't interested in giving us a good experience, which was a shame, because I'd read about the Ubiquitous Chip before even visiting Glasgow and it was my most anticipated meal, not to mention our last nice meal before leaving to go back home again. We both wanted local spirits flights (gin and whisky) after our meal and it felt like they forgot about us. They also left our cocktail glasses unbussed the entire meal. They seem to have some challenges with their beer and liquor selection being located in literal different physical locations throughout their massive complex. I suspect the flights were delayed (lolz) because of this, but that doesn't make it okay. Sucks for meeeeeee

It had been a few years since my last visit to 'the chip' I used to love this place but my last visit left me cold, like my main course. Ate in the brasserie area and the food wasn't up to the standard of the restaurant, I wouldn't say it was bad, it just didn't hit the mark. Service was average, although it was very busy, but that's no excuse. The only other down side was some overly loud diners, adjacent to our table, who appeared to have booked a table for drinks in an area that I thought was for dinning, not an ideal arrangement.

On a cold February afternoon in 2020, before the world came to a standstill, we visited UK and enjoyed a light lunch, scotch and gin at Ubiquitous. We sat up in the mezzanine , enjoying the ambience. I forget what we ate, but recall it was very nice. The scotch flight I had and the gin flight my wife had were amazing. The pleasant memory I have of this place albeit with the detail faded, is testament to the greatness of the place. Recommended and I'll visit again when I can. Slainte!

Small starters at this old stand by restaurant. I had the smoked salmon and my partner had the scallops. The side order of potatoes were good. Champagne was fantastic! Waitstaff was excellent. Happy New Year!!!

This place is gorgeous! Its definitely an experience to walk in here I loved all the indoor plants and the beautiful garden they created. They also had a fountain in the corner and the space is brightly lit since the roof is glass which lets in a lot of sunlight. They told me all the plants were real as well, and as a succulent lover, this place was my paradise! Great drinks, well mixed - i recommend the peach daiquiri. We got these to start. Haggis venison was outstanding and it comes with neeps and tatties, beautifully arrangled on the plate, I will say the portions are on the smaller side but if you're there for lunch its a good meal, dinner portions are larger they said. It is a little expensive for the price but just order more, you're paying for the space Dessert of crowdie cheese cake is showstopper and I highly recommend getting this if youre here. You can digest it by walking around ashton lane after that :) Great service- there is seating on top I recommend getting as high up to the skylight as you can but all the spaces in this restaurant are lovely. The staff is good and help with offering tourist recommendations as well as details on food presentation and helping with allergies Great bathrooms and lots of them so less waiting. Also uniquely spaced and interesting layout of the whole restaurant

From the minute you enter the Ubiquitous Chip you know you're in for a special meal. The room is stinky with plants, walkways and an all glass roof. We ate upstairs which is the less formal dinning area. We shared small plates such as lemon anchovies, pork cheeks and cod. The service was excellent and the overall experience was great.

Really glad we came here! Every bite was a mouthgasm. We ate upstairs on the more casual bistro section and were pleased we did. We came in, STARVING on a rainy day after the Kelvinggrove museum. Arrived around 5:15 pm on a Friday and were able to get a table. Service was great. We had our waters refilled and got pointers on the menu. We got the butternut squash mousse appetizer, fish sharing plate, wee haggis neeps and teddies and a side dish of stovies to share. It was more than enough. We left stuffed and still had food on our plates. Star for me was the fish sharing plate. It was huge!! There was a big portion of fresh salad with micro greens, onions and arugula. It was dressed with a tangy mustard. There was a huge dollop of smoked haddock and salmon spread with mayo and dill. Reminded me of a NYC deli Jewish spread. Oi vey, it was good! It also had a giant fish cake with potato, haddock and salmon. This thing was huge!! And the staton the plate was the smoked salmon with a cucumber/ dill/ onion/ caper salsa. So savory and good! The plate is served with 6 small crackers so we ordered bread on the side to eat the salmon and dip with. I recommend doing this, otherwise there's not enough crackers to go around. The haggis plate was good I think. I never had haggis before so have nothing to compare it to. Tasted strong. The neeps and tattys were tasty. It was served dry- no sauce. I think you should ask for gravy to make it even better. The stovies was awesome! It had potatoes, carrots, leeks, parsnips and soft shredded beef. The gravy was amazing. This side dish was pricy but so good- I recommend it. Haven't seen this in the states before... The squash mousse was ok. I would skip this dish if I went back. My friend loved it though. The mousse is like a slightly sweet panna cotta style. And it has a strong parsley flavored sauce, cubed pieces of squash that taste jellied (like Asian style dessert) and puffy crunchy rice, like a cereal. It was unique for sure! The textures and flavors just missed the mark for me. The experience was foody heaven. I highly recommend!

So so delicious. Vegan Haggis! Who knew? Separate vegetarian and vegan menus available. Great atmosphere. The servers and managers are super nice. Highly recommend.

Believe the reviews (on Yelp and beyond) -- Ubiquitous Chip is a fantastic spot. The food is delicious, the service is great and the ambiance is wonderful. You can see from the reviews and pictures that the food is delicious -- fresh ingredients and wonderful flavors. I recommend the haggis and anything seafood. And, of course, try the cocktails. Thank you for a really great experience, Ubiquitous Chip!

I heard a lot of great things about this place so was excited to go. This review is for the upstairs part. There is a different menu downstairs (according to the hostess). The place looks very cool and the staff are friendly. Service was slow as it took 20 minutes for us to get our drinks (a beer and an old fashioned). I thought the menu said the old fashioned was served over one large ice cube but it came over crushed ice so it got watered down quickly. I may have misread, but in any event, nobody should be serving a drink like that over crushed ice. It was tasty though. I had the pork belly as an appetizer. It was mediocre. The fatty part had very little flavor and the bottom part, in addition to being gray and unattractive, had a weird, almost chalky texture. I've never had anything like that before. I pray I don't again. For my main course I had the haggis with neeps and tatties. Everything was pretty good but the portion was huge! I couldn't finish half of it. Actually the venison haggis was very tasty. I might have liked some more butter in the potatoes and everything required salt and pepper but it was good. I had some chips as well but they were cold and limp, they were the weakest of any I had in Glasgow. Maybe I was there on an off night or maybe my expectations were too high but this was not my best meal in Glasgow.

(strange across the pond deja vu calling back to my recent 43 Monroe review here..) The setting is truly gorgeous what with the plant-and-light filled indoor glasserie of a dining room, and its beyond enchanting down an impossibly adorable little alleyway, hard to spot location. Staff particularly the waiter were uniformly lovely and he selected a excellent fine Whiskey to accompany my meal. The venison haggis appetizer, which was sadly my only encounter with haggis in any form while in Scotland this time, was delicious, zesty gamey and savory, a fine representation of the much beloved and feared national dish in a snackable app form. I cant say I wasn't a little disappointed when the waiter volunteered that the version was cooked in a bag or something as opposed to the traditional method inside a sheeps stomach, but enjoyed it quite a bit nonetheless. From there things went downhill fast where the food was concerned, unfortunately as the prices skyrocketed in the other direction. Both the locally sourced Scottish beef filet (which came in at about 50 American once converted) and Guinea hen did massive diservices to the insanely high quality local beef and fowl, as well as the gloriously green fresh veggies served alongside them. The filet was rough and overcooked at requested medium rare, and the bird and peas and greens accompanying them likewise overcooked to the point rubberiness. They were topped with the sauces and glazes that suggest outdated fine dining techniques of complicated sauces of many ingredients put together and dripped on a plate that somehow all manage to combine to contribute nothing to the dish other than further take away from the taste of the wonderful local ingredients further than the poor cooking already has. For what its worth the cheesy potato gratin served alongside the hokey puckish filet was quite tasty and well prepared. All in all I would recommend the place for a lovely drink and quick nosh on some upscale haggis, while recommending one steer clear of the pricy and overly complicated entrees. I would also take this opportunity to remind you all that you don't visit Scotland for the cuisine, other than the Whiskey of course...

Stellar food, food menu, restaurant design, ambiance, service/staff, and drink menu. I have already posted a number of photos! And I'm still sitting in the restaurant itself, writing this review because I'm so amazed by every single aspect of this restaurant. My friend is a picky eater and loved every part of her dish (guinea fowl) and she even at the onions off her dish because the sauce is so good - and she despises onions, has never purposefully eaten then. And in addition to the stellar food, the ambiance and spaciousness of the design of the restaurant is just worth it to sit in and enjoy! The wine menu is a literal booklet - so the drinks are a must have. I wish I could eat here 3 more times! Must must must try!

"Just so you know, we don't call it 'Scotch' here. We call it whisky". With that she turned and walked away, and the entire table burst out laughing at her pointed rebuke of me. Cold-blooded... She was putting me in my place. Point made. Point taken... though, to what purpose? Was it necessary to completely deflate my excitement? All I was doing was insistently (perhaps annoyingly so) - but only for the benefit of people I care about and not the entire restaurant - voicing suggestions to make the overall experience optimal. One can have a good time anywhere any day, but only thoughtfulness makes an experience truly special - which is what I was hoping for. All right. Fine. I don't know my Teuchters from my Sassenachs... I'll mind my language from here on... Charming. Not the word you'd expect if you're still reading, but the word which first comes to mind when we took in the atmosphere at Ubiquitous Chip. You just can't bear this Glasgow institution any ill will. How can you when the place wants to feature regional Scottish cooking, the stuff of "aunties, grannies, and even folklore"? We had only one night in Glasgow during our road trip through Scotland and I was determined to make it count. The Chip (abbreviating the restaurant's ironic name for what other Scottish restaurants served when it first opened) was the perfect place to appreciate Glasgow and Scottish cuisine as it is the restaurant that first insisted on presenting their distinct culinary identity. Haggis, Neeps 'N' Tatties. Sound offal to you? Tad dirty, to me. But, as someone who's been eating offal since childhood, venison was the only change. One I embraced wholeheartedly. The spices too seemed familiar, and comforting. Truly, the food at the brasserie provided all the warmth I'd been looking forward to during our meal. None of my friends disagreed. The chargrilled octopus, the Hake Fillet (with cauliflower), the mussels were all very well executed. As was my dessert of peanut butter parfait, salted caramel and milk chocolate peanut dust. The only reason I'm not rating the experience as five stars is that no one ever followed up with us on drinks after the initial put-down, despite my expressed interest in the whisky flight. Not once. I understand that it was the (bank holiday) weekend and people might have been very busy with their work - but no one said a single thing or asked about us even once afterwards. In doing so, they deprived us of something we were really looking forward to. I mean what's the point of going to Scotland and not doing the done thing: drink whisky ... and make fun of the English ;) (4.5 stars)

Came here for a lunch with friends and got the 3 courses. The service was pretty much non-existing, long wait between courses and the food was just average. There were less than 5 tables of customers in total, not even busy, so why? I got the sea bream for appetizer, pheasant for main and blueberry panna cotta for dessert. Also got the gin and elderflower cocktail. The appetizer was decent, fish grilled to perfection. The pheasant was tasted overcooked and rough, but still pink in the center, the beans in the dish were salty. The worst was dessert, it had pickled blueberry! that didn't work at all! The strong vinegar smell really put me off. The cocktail was pretty good! Not a place that I will return or recommend to others.

I wish Yelp would allow half star ratings because this place is a 4.5 stars on this visit, not 4, but not quite a 5 this visit. Really cool place down the alley that goes Dow the other alley. Pubs, a movie theater etc. very cool. They have some serious foliage growing inside. One drawback for where we sat was a larger group behind us. It got pretty loud and the wait staff was asking for my order from the other end of the table and I could not hear her. You would think she would make her way to my side to talk about my order but never left that spot so I only had my daughter to make sure what she was saying. The food was delicious and after it calmed down in the place we had a nice conversation with our wait staff, she was very nice. I would recommend this spot if you can get a reservation.

Literally doesn't get any better than this. The pub was wonderfully quaint and comfortable. The barkeep was friendly and very helpful when it came to tasting whiskys and even helped my find a new favorite from the smallest distillery in Scotland. The other patrons were exceptionally friendly and it was exactly the experience we were looking for. *whisky mentioned in photo

I've been to the Chip numerous times and had good experiences but never with a friend from America and never outside the brasserie. We specifically chose a Sunday night, figuring they'd be less busy. A huge group sat down next to us in the restaurant, and we barely got any attention. The food was good but not great. If you see my photos, the servings aren't very big, and my friend who is veggie didn't like much on what was on offer on the vegetarian menu. Regretful that I may never return.

The Chip is a Glasgow institution. If you've been to university here you've probably brought your parents to prove to them that Glasgow can be nice and fancy after all, it's not just pizza crunch suppers, munchy boxes and greggs. The Chip is like a rabbit warren inside with at least three different bar areas, four places to eat (I think!) and even a rooftop smoking terrace which is a great place to chill on a warm day - or to literally chill on most days. The beer selection is usually good, they have their own cask ale brewed for them by Fyne Ales and will have a guest beer too. However it's the food that the Chip is renowned for and it is well deserved. Presentation and taste are excellent, and as this is Glasgow the value is unbeatable too. I'm sure if they made portions smaller, added in a few more courses and tripled the priced this place would get a Michelin star. However that's not how we roll on Glasgow. Food is contemporary Scottish / British with good vegetarian options too. A great place.

The Chip has been a West End institution for so many years now that we have a tendency to take it for granted, which is a great shame as every time I revisit the place I'm reminded of what a special gem of a restaurant it is. The glass-roofed courtyard-type setting amidst the greenery and fairy lights is a magical and romantic environment of an evening, but even upstairs in the Brasserie mezzanine for brunch on a drizzly morning still feels different from anywhere else. The staff are always helpful, knowledgeable and polite, and the food - even in the cheaper brasserie - is simply world-class. Whether you have corporate guests to entertain, a function to organise, or you simply want something a little special for a night out, the Chip accommodates all with superb aplomb and craftsmanship. They've been doing it for a long time, and they are still the benchmark of Scottish restaurants.

This is where I go for haggis, tatties, and neeps. You should too. A touch upscale but always worth it. End of discussion.

Yum yum YUM. I had this place on my list for my visit to Glasgow and so glad it was top of the list!!! First thing I loved is the space itself. Little nooks and crannies all over the place you can hide in, and a fabulously renovated old building. Stunning. Check out the roof garden for a quiet drink on a sunny day. We had a look at the menu for the restaurant and the brasserie and it was a difficult decision to pick between the two spaces! We decided on the upstairs brasserie and gosh was it good I had the haddie open sandwich and shared a bowl of mussels with local yelper Briony C. The sandwich came with a little side of potato salad and salad, and was served on a perfect piece of fluffy, crusty bed. Little smoked pieces of haddie with some capers and cucumber was spot on for lunch and all you would need. But since I was on holidays, we had mussels too and they were fabulous. Served in a creamy broth with nice garlic and parsley flavours, they were fresh and yum. The best part was the salty, fluffy focaccia they provide so soak up the broth. Gosh it was good! Would love to come back here. Worth it for sure.

I had the most delicious dinner at Ubi Chip last night and thought therefore it deserved a review update. We were sitting on the mezzanine which I totally love - and were tucked away in a corner near the bar so it was like having dinner in a lush oasis with no one else around! For starters I had the Highland crowdie gnocchi with wild garlic pesto which was so light and fresh, just delicious. I asked the waitress for her opinion about the mains as I was torn between two and I really appreciated her advice, so I went for the pigeon breast with smoked potatoes, creamed cabbage and pea veloute. Whatever the sauce was with the pigeon was totally amazing and I loved this dish so much that I'd go back especially to eat it. I mean, even the creamed cabbage was amazing and who likes cabbage? I was on such a high after these two dishes that I even had dessert - chocolate and olive oil cake. This was so beautiful and I actually felt like I couldn't eat it for a moment. But of course I did. It was total heaven, not too rich and just lovely with the raspberry sorbet. Service is warm and friendly - not pretentious at all. I really love it here and always feel so cosy and relaxed. I can't wait to go back!

A few colleagues and myself went for Christmas dinner at The Chip. I'd informed the Chip beforehand and they produced a separate vegan menu for me. I have NEVER seen creativity and skill like this anywhere else. I had a teeny tiny amuse bouche which was beautifully presented, a starter of roast brassicas, shallots and pine nuts, and main of hay baked celeriac, quince terrine, candied buckwheat with onion ash. The chets here really understand what you can do with vegan food. This was a masterclass in exquisite, creative, imaginative, delicious vegan food. Well done, The Ubiquitous Chip.

I'm usually a bit wary when it comes to highly rated restaurants that appear almost at the top of google search when you look for a restaurant in a city but there's something about the Ubiquitous Chip that said "hey there, wait wait, don't discard me just yet, come see what I have to offer". So after reading several reviews here and there, I decided to give it a try. It was the definitely the right decision. Like one of the other yelpers said, the Chip IS a Glaswegian institution. Living in London, having lived in NYC and coming from Bangkok (foodie central of the world IMHO), I've become very spoilt with choices of fancy food. pretty artwork like dishes with an interesting twist so although I was open for some food creativity and art on a plate, I wanted something that could also offer a taste of Scotland. the Chip definitely ordered that. I was feeling greedy so I ordered the classic haggis neeps n' tatties for starters with the addition of whiskey cream, thanks to the suggestion of the lovely waitress, and the pigeon with sweet potato mash. Haggis can be too rich sometimes and for non-Scots like me, it can be hard to find the right combo that would a great dish out of Haggis. The Chip told me how to do it but they did it so perfectly that I think i'll continue to leave it to them. It was the best haggis dish I'd ever had and the whisky cream sauce perfected the dish. Now that's what I was looking for. Not long after enjoying the HNnT, the wood pigeon came. The pigeon itself was a bit too well cooked for me. It was a tasty pigeon, wasn't too gamey at all but the texture could have been more tender-something like a juicy duck breast would have been wonderful. But that was the only problem I had with the dish. The sauce was full of flavour and the rights ones and the sweet potato mash was just heavenly. Maybe they'd put a lot of butter into it but whatever they did, it was magic. Needless to say, the dish was very pleasing to the eye before I gobbled it all down. And another great thing about this restaurant is, even though the decor is nice and fancy and you get people coming in for some fancy/proper dining, all the staff are super friendly and down to earth, just very easy going. Only thing I regret was not waiting for my friend to come back from her study trip to join me. Yeah, it's one of those places that's so nice that you just want to take your friends and loved ones to. Such a beautiful place with a glass roof, beautiful interior design, a small waterfall and lovely paintings - the ambience of the place reminded me of this very dreamy artworks of Louis Comfort Tiffany in the sculpture hall of the Met Museum in NY. Love this place and will come here again. Wow, that was long....

Ubiquitous Chip is probably the most expensive restaurant on Ashton Lane, but the food is ridiculously nice. Whether you think it's work it depends on how much spare cash you have lying around, but if you have the cash I'd definitely recommend it. We had the lunch and pre theatre menu at £16.95 for 2 courses or £20.95 for 3 which proved to be good values for money. Included was bread, a small pre starter and great service, so to me it seemed pretty good value for money. The full menu is maybe not as good value, but as I said, if you have the money I recommend it. The food we had was really really nice. The pre starter (a mini soup) was great and the starter was probably the nicest bit of food I've ever eaten (venison beignet). The main course was nice if not amazing, but was exactly as described. I'd definitely recommend this place, especially the lunch and pre theatre menu!

I came to this place in a trip to Scotland, after traveling through Edinburgh and eating in some of the best spots in Scotland. Decided to try some traditional Glaswegian cuisine. Most restaurants were closed and this one was one of the few open ones. The place is beautiful but the food and service were terrible. First and foremost- do not go for their tasting menu. It was a disappointment after the other paying $60 pounds per head. It took them 3 hours to serve us the 6 dishes. It was a lunch, we left after 6pm. The plates were one disappointment after the other - undercooked haggis and turnip, venison (was ok) but the sauces did not match - too many flavours. The dessert (pre dessert and dessert) were not eaten by anyone at the table: peanut butter chocolate (yes for 60 pounds a head and no one could eat it). Do not waste you're time an money. Come in, take a picture inside cause it's pretty and get out.

Had a great time at my first Yelp Brunch Club here today. Having not enjoyed my visit here 2 summers back, I wasn't sure want to think, but I knew Ubiquitous Chip was a Glasgow Legend. On a warm/sunny day, the upstairs section quite literally turns into a Greenhouse. I was in my element, warm for once! The staff were great and really attentive, offering to take everyones coats on arriving, as well as taking a drinks order. For such a large group, I thought it was all really smooth, everyone's food arrived at roughly the same. I had 2 americanos with rather addictive biscuits and the scottish breakfast. To the dismay of others, without the puddings! Oddly, my favourite bit was the tomato relish it came with, although the potato scone was also incredible. It was really poofy to begin with but deflated when you opened it.

Great restaurant! We were lucky to get a table on Friday night for 4 people. The waiter was very helpful. My kid enjoyed his dinner and interacting with staffs there. Highly recommend!

I had never eaten in The Chip despite having lived in Glasgow a whopping four years and knowing 5 members of staff there, including the pastry chef at one point! So, when my boyfriend's family offered to take us there for his graduation, I was ecstatic! We were a party of eight, and they accommodated us smoothly and easily. The service was great and we started with a bottle of prossecco to toast the graduate! We all had starters, I had the asparagus which was tasty but not too filling, a bread basket wouldn't have gone amiss as we were all starving by that point. The flavors were great though, and i think everyone else loved their starters as well. For the main I had the special fish with corn and gnocci, which was out of this world! I had to have dessert of course and got the white chocolate mousse with rhurbarb fool and pistachio crumble, which was the perfect way to round off the night. Their graduation menu in the Brasserie is around 26 pounds for three courses, which is actually a pretty decent deal given the restaurant's reputation! The restaurant is more expensive, but I actually prefer the twinkly, fairy-lit, plant-filled, outdoorsy feel of the Brasserie to the darkness of the downstairs restaurant. We had an exceptional time at the chip with great food and service, I'd recommend it highly to anyone looking for a special meal!

This review is for the restaurant Ubiquitous Chip was on our list of places to try while in Glasgow & we made sure to make our rezzie way in advance to ensure we'd get in.... my advice to you? DO IT - totally worth it! Let me start out w/ the fact they serve the best beer I've ever had in my life - ever! It's their own brew called Chip 71 & I SO wanted to bring a bunch back to the US w/ me. It was dark, nutty, & creamy, w/ an ultra-smooth aftertaste. I'm still dreaming of it weeks later! Do you export??? Or anyone willing to smuggle some over for me? Appies consisted of: Beetroot w/ olive tampenade & ricotta fritter. Stringy pulls from the crispy outside fritter. Mom & Dad claimed they didn't want an appie but about ate all of mine, it was so good Entrees: Veggie Haggis - lentils & all the haggis spices sitting on a slice of potato. Creamed turnips / potatoes on the side & crisper carrot (like a carrot potato chip) sitting on top. Mom thought it was very spicy, I thought it was spiced just right - it was absolutely delish! Dad had the Steak w/ Au Gratin Potatoes. Said his steak was cooked to perfection & the potatoes were so creamy & cheesy, he ate the whole plate which is rare b/c he's not in the clean plate club Desserts I opted for their signature Oatmeal ice Cream w/ fruit compote. Crunchy bits of oatmeal that made it taste like an ice-cream sandwich - it was outstanding Chocolate pudding - tender cake w/ chocolate chips & laden w/ ganache. Mom said this was the best chocolate cake she's ever had Strawberry & Marscapone w/ strawberry & balsamic ice cream. Dad wolfed down in 4 bites it was so tasty...and it was not small Staff as nice as could be. Saw a Scotch sommelier educating the table beside us on the different variations of Scotch they had & when we come back - b/c there WILL be a when, will have to try the Scotch But back to that yummy Chip 71...... you know, xmas is right around the corner ...

If I could only use one word to describe the Chip it would be special. Located on the already quite magical twinkely Ashton Lane the Chip is surely the jewel in its crown. When you step inside it is like walking into a magic garden, we were located in the court-yard area downstairs which is so beautiful. With its cobbled stone floor, beautiful art work on the walls and twinkely lights....it's perfect. I also love that the tables are all really far apart so you can't hear other people's conversations. The staff were great I wouldn't call them over friendly but they weren't rude either...professionally polite would be my description. My glass was never empty before our waitress was back at our table to top up our drinks. I couldn't fault any of the staff in any way. I have decided to give myself a bit of a break from booze and caffeine for a while,as this was to be my last evening of alcohol there was only one thing filling my glass and that was Champagne, lots and lots of champagne. We went for a bottle of Perrier Jouet which came with the most gorgeous PJ branded flutes which I loved, unfortunately I didn't have my big bag so they couldn't accompany me home sadly. To kick us off we were presented with a few canapes, the lovely waitress did tell us what they were but I don't remember now what they were (lets blame the champagne for that!) I think the little cube was something mushroom and the little biscuit was a cheese and red onion lovely concoction. The menu was fantastic and I could have happily eaten literally everything on it. To begin with tho I eventually settled on the Seared Islay scallops, crispy pork, fennel and cider veloute. When it arrived it was beautifully presented and tasted even better. The big fat scallops were cooked perfectly and the veloute was so delicious. Next came the monkfish and slow braised ox cheek, haricot beans, shallots and red wine sauce....it's was sensational. Both the ox cheek and monkfish were soft and crumbly which just fell apart. It was a perfect dish and I don't think there is much more than that I can say about this dish. For dessert our waitress recommended the milk chocolate and peanut butter bread pudding, cinnamon marshmallow, peanut brittle and banana ice cream and I am so glad that she did. Wow! The bread pudding was gooey and nutty and the ice cream was lush and creamy. The marshmallow & peanut brittle were so lovely together and a really interesting sensation in my mouth when they were eaten together. If you go to the Chip this is absolutely the dessert to choose. With our lattes we were served some petit fours, the waitress never told us what they were and I couldn't begin to guess but they were lovely, and served on a really beautiful dish...again the Chip should be happy I didn't have my big bag with me I'll be honest this is not a cheap restaurant but it is one of the best meals I have ever had, definitely the best meal I've had in Glasgow and is sure to become a regular haunt for me now. The food and surroundings were stunning.

Be careful. I got mugged by a lobster here. It's accomplice looked a lot like a medium cooked steak. I'm drooling over the food here. Thinking about the salmon, hand cooked desserts, wonderful wine selection and fabulous surroundings. I even got a teeny tiny cup of soup. Teeny tiny I tell you. The meal was perfect. I only have one complaint, I asked for my cucumber muddled with the Hendricks and it was just chopped. Ladies and gents, chopped is not muddled.

Yum. Yum. Thrice yum. This place lives and breathes Scotland tradition in a very delicious and posh way. This is nouveau cuisine but not in a pretentious way. It still manages to be hearty, filling and lush. How can such a thing be? Let's start off with the space, and boy what a space. Ceilings all the way up into the ether, vines intertwining over random trellises and mezzanines, a design like something from an Escher painting and long, elegant tables. The visuals were certainly stunning. The service was impeccable too, with water arriving at the table swiftly and rustic bread and butter to nibble from the off. Rarely did our wine or water glasses go without a frequent refill. The menu is fairly small but perfectly formed... meanwhile the wine and cocktail lists are veritable booze Bibles, and don't get us started on those whiskies. My, do you Scots take your whisky seriously... and am I glad that I've got into the stuff now! The food is epic. There are no two ways about it. My scallops were beyond delicious without even a hint of rubberiness about them, and the veggie option of a pastry pudding filled with mushroom and walnuts served with a tangy ratatouille was splendid. But the star of the show was the pudding - Chocolate Presidente, with a warning of a 20 minute wait. Baked chocolate mousse that was like a cross between a brownie and a steamed fudge pudding, peppermint foam and milk sorbet. The trio made such sexy bedfellows. It was a veritable pudding menage a trois. This has officially made it into one of my all-time top ten restaurants. I'm not even joking. Ubiquitous Chip, if you really are everywhere, please come to Manchester too!

There is something very comforting about dinner at the Chip, an air of quiet confidence and professionalism that you don't get everywhere. The entire place is so well drilled, well executed and well judged that it's only when you take the time to think about it you realise that your meal has been handled flawlessly. And that's just the front of house staff, who are friendly, courteous and deliver excellent service. As for the food, it's hard to fault. I've eaten here a couple of times and each time I've had a vague sense that the portions could've been bigger... but then I realised that I'm glad they weren't. Sated but not stuffed. I started with the venison haggis. A signature dish that I've had before but, no matter how hard I try I just can't see beyond it. Served with champit tatties, carrot crisp and turnip cream, it's perfectly balanced with each flavour allowed time on the palate and not swamped by any of the others. One of our party had the vegetarian haggis to start and was equally as impressed. For my main a fillet steak, medium rare, with truffled peas, dauphinoise potatoes and a side of Bearnaise sauce. Oddly this was the low point of the meal for me. It was good but I've had better steaks as mine seemed a little dry/overcooked to my preference, and I'm not really sure what the truffled peas were trying to achieve but they seem ill-conceived as part of the dish. On to the dessert, and my sweet tooth instantly picked out the Créme caramel, served with green apple sorbet, madeleine, and muscat jelly. Ohhhh heavenly wonders. A silky smooth dessert complimented by the most amazingly subtle sorbet that really surprised me. I think I almost ended up preferring the sorbet to the Créme caramel.... almost. Overall, the entire experience is without fault. From entrance to exit, this is a restaurant that knows what it is doing and does it well, without fanfare, leaving you feel like you've just spent a few hours with an old friend, comfortable and already looking forward to the next time you meet.
