"As the daughter of one of Croatia’s most legendary chefs, Ivana Gamulin felt inspired to follow in her late father’s footsteps and open a restaurant. The result is Villa Spiza, a countertop spot within the palace walls, where she and her sister serve up Dalmatian soul food made with fresh, local ingredients. The menu changes daily depending on what’s available at the market but always features regional specialties like seafood risotto, fried calamari, and just-caught fish. For its comforting fare and low-key vibe, the restaurant is beloved by everyone from bohemians and backpackers to tried-and-true locals—which is always a good sign when searching for somewhere to eat. Service is friendly, but come prepared to wait—Villa Spiza doesn’t do fast food."

Love this place! Their mushroom pasta was delicious and so was the meatballs. Been there twice and would go back a third time if we stayed longer. It’s worth standing in line for this restaurant. They focus on seasonal food and go to the market every day for fresh ingredients and when they’re out it’s crossed from the menu. Be early if you want to try everything 😋. We were 4 people and had 2 starters, 4 mains and 1 bottle of wine. The cost was less than 40€. The portions were generous in my opinion.

We had such a delicious dinner at Villa Spiza! It was recommended to us and we really enjoyed it! We had the pork chops and the pork pasta. Absolutely amazing! Real home style cooking - wonderful flavours, very filling, and served with a big smile from the friendly staff! We will return for sure :) Advice: it’s quite popular so there is usually a wait. We didn’t actually wait long so don’t be scared to hang around.

This was a dinner experience worth every penny! Fresh food is cooked right in front of you if you’re seated in the front shop. Flavoursome and healthy choice of Mediterranean foods. Don’t be disappointed it if takes a long time to be seated. The food does take time to cook. Bookmarked and ready to visit again on my next trip

Super unassuming off the beaten path restaurant- I can’t boast enough about the food- I mean wow! I was feeling a little under the weather and just wanted soup- this was the first place we saw in Split that had soup. We ordered the pumpkin soup and puttanesca both were better than any food we had had at Michelin rated restaurants- like the layers of flavor in the soup really made My day- the pasta sealed The deal with its perfect noodles and robust flavors. So worth coming here- like get here now, as soon as you can. The service leaves a bit to be desired- but come for the food and you won’t be disappointed.

Love it. We went there at 6 pm to avoid the queue. Then, we got a table straight away. We ordered meat balls and shrimp pasta. They were delicious. The food proportion was generous. We were full without ordering any entries. They made fresh and cooked right in front of us. 2 happy customers. The price was not expensive but cash only.

They closed the kitchen early on the night we visited but the lovely waitress squeezed us in and made us feel very welcome. We both had the amazing burrata starter… wow. Then for main my Calamari was insanely good. I’ve never eaten better squid anywhere. It was fresh, soft, full of flavours of the sea and worked so well with the accompaniments. Don’t usually do dessert but the tiramisu was light and full of all those flavours you expect and more. It was my favourite meal of a whole week in Croatia.

So good, we went back twice in a row! Went during lunch and had pasta, cooked al dente with just the right amount of sauce and protein for every mouth. The next day we went back for dinner as it was our last night in Split and didn't want to risk having unsatisfying meal at other places so we went back. Had the Gregada - croatian fish stew, so tasty and surely did not disappoint! The pasta was also cooked with fresh truffles without being overly creamy. Definitely am going to miss this restaurant.

This restaurant feels like you’re having lunch at your relatives’s house. The staff was friendly, joking with one another, singing to the tunes playing. We enjoyed a family style lunch which included salads, eggplant, pasta, meatballs and pork chops. Everything was absolutely excellent. Seasonal, local. When they’re out of a menu item, it’s simply crossed off the menu for the day. House white wine was crisp and cold. Be prepared to pay with cash. This restaurant is not flashy like a lot of them in town, but it is an absolute hidden gem and worth your while to check out if you love food.
