Victory Bar

Super funky bar with an interesting food menu (lots of spatzl) that makes me want to return for dinner. The cocktails are amazing, especially the "new fashioned."

Really like the vintage, war-torn kind of look to this place. The TVs in particular were really cool (playing old videos), and I heard that the owner custom built housings for them that look like old, wood-paneled, rounded-edge screens. The lights and fixtures add to the dimly-lit scene, and it almost has a speak-easy vibe to it. I enjoyed the custom cocktail menu, and though I didn't try any of their food, that menu looked intriguing as well. I would like to come back and see what else this place has to offer!

My brother and I were wandering around in the rain looking for a restaurant, we almost walked by, but we be forever grateful to whatever made us stop. This place is awesome! The atmosphere alone is worth the visit, I wish I knew who created all the art that embellished the place, it will take many visits to actually look at everything. The beer selection is more than adequate and the food is pub grub with a lean toward hearty German fare. I had the spatezel, sooooo good. Thanks a million!

Pretty great happy hour, and their venison burger looked beautiful! It was a little tough to eat, but I'll chalk that up to being the usual "gamey" texture. We will totally be back to try more food and drink options.

This is, by far, one of my favorite bars in Portland. Great bartenders, and good beer food. It is 1984 themed, though I didn’t notice until I’d been there a bunch of times. That being said, I noticed a million well hidden references to the book once I realized, which is great. Interesting beer list too!

Quirky bar that decor wise, so I'm told, is loosely modeled on Orwell's 1984. Had a small but decent beer selection. Didn't try the food. Server was nice, but can't say I'm a fan of having to go up to the bar to order my drinks (everyone funnelled to one server).

Good drinks (although $6 for a pilsner seems a little steep), good crowd, and good decor, except those damn inescapable TVs. The grainy green tint on all of them seems like a fun novelty at first, but after seeing them for more than a minute it gets old fast. I started feeling nauseous and had to look away, but they are placed all over and it's very difficult to find a spot that isn't in direct sight of them. Another in my party said they were making him feel inexplicably angry. The content of old music videos was fine, but the hue is awful. I live across the street from this place and want to like it, but I've only been twice in 5 years and couldn't wait to leave both times because of the screens.
