"Over 100 years ago, developer Abbot Kinney had the wild idea to bring Venice to America. While the imported Italian gondoliers never came to be, what remains is an architectural wonderland of unique homes, landscaped gardens and artfully crafted rowboats. Off the beaten path, it's a pocket of Venice that's full of piece and quiet, making it the perfect place to take a stroll and immerse in canal living. Our favorite spot is on the corner of Dell and Howland Canal - look for what might be the most magical tree in all of LA." - The Branding Farm

"Hidden in plain sight, the canals flow behind adorable bungalows just blocks from Venice Beach. Built in 1905 by developer Abbot Kinney, it’s not unusual to see herons, egrets, pelicans, and parrots, making it one of the best off-the-beaten-path landmarks in all of L.A. There are a number of bridges perfect for romantic photo ops, and there are enough quiet corners to find your own little patch of bliss. It’s a perfect place to stroll and catch your breath amid the hustle and bustle of the city." - Maxwell Williams

"In the early 1900s, Abbot Kinney resolved to make a “Venice of America” and decided to turn modern-day Venice into a system of canals. While many of the waterways have been filled in during the intervening years, a small patch remains—though they had fallen into disrepair, they were restored in the ’90s and are now lined with some of Venice’s fanciest homes. It’s a totally random yet awesome enclave, and worth a stroll on a nice day."

Wandering through the Venice Canal Historic District in LA feels like stumbling into a serene little dream tucked behind the city’s buzz. The peaceful walkways wind past a charming mix of old and modern homes, each with its own personality—some with ivy-covered walls, others sleek and architectural, all reflected in the still canal waters. Arched pedestrian bridges and blooming gardens add to the storybook vibe, and the occasional duck or kayak drifting by only deepens the calm. It’s the kind of place where time slows down, and you can just breathe, admire, and let the quiet charm of the neighborhood wash over you.

Absolutely beautiful neighborhood. All of the houses are so unique and the environment is picturesque and peaceful. Perfect for a nice stroll with a date and taking lots of pictures. Such a unique place that transports you to the canals of Venice. Was pretty hard to find street parking but eventually got a spot.

Every time I come here I forget what a beautiful and unique spot this is. Lil' fish, (probably top smelt?) wild architecture, cute yards. Come here at sunset for a lovely golden hour!

It is such a magical place in LA. It feels like a maze. I just keep walking, and looking at all these plants, and cute houses, getting on, and off the bridge. Morning, and night is so different especially when holidays’ decoration is on. Sometimes, it was fascinating when the sunset reflected in the river, and egret was playing here often. I did see little fishes, and tiny crabs 🦀 . The Venice Canals in Los Angeles are a tranquil oasis tucked away from the lively energy of nearby Venice Beach. Inspired by Italy’s Venice, the canals are lined with charming homes, picturesque bridges, and serene waterways. Strolling through the area offers a peaceful escape, with plenty of opportunities to admire unique architecture and lush gardens. It’s a favorite spot for photographers and those looking for a quiet, scenic walk. The canals are especially beautiful at sunset, making it a hidden gem perfect for a relaxing visit.

Such a lovely place to walk around. It's quiet and well kept, with people taking pride in their properties. It's easy to get to the beach from there too. You can walk around it in about 30 mins. Something different to do in LA that is free to do! Would definitely recommend.
