"Semper Fi Marines! Commonly referred to as the Iwo Jima Memorial, the world's tallest standing bronze statue honors the Marines who have defended the United States since November 10, 1775 with every major battle campaign inscribed at its base. The 32-foot-high sculpture was inspired by Joe Rosenthal's Pulitzer Prize–winning photo of five Marines and one Navy hospital corpsman raising the American flag on Mt. Suribachi during one of the most historic battles of World War II. From May to August, on Tuesdays from 7 p.m. to 8:30 p.m., the memorial serves as the backdrop for the phenomenal Sunset Parade, which showcases the Marine Band, Silent Drill Team, and Drum and Bugle Corps. Come on the last Sunday of October to cheer on the thousands of runners who start and finish here for the Marine Corps Marathon."
Great scenery, the most fascinating thing was the alignment of the War memorial with the Capitol and the DC free standing monument. This single war memorial captures the essence of the US flag and it's importance. A great piece of memory...

I uploaded many pictures that were captured in Arlington Virginia and in the DC area. I don't recall which memorial or site each picture was at so I just uploaded many of the memorial pictures that I found.. after 4 days of walking and sightseeing I realize many of the sites are free and there was so much places to go I needed more time.. The Cherry blossom season was just beginning and I wish I was able to stay here another week to see all the festivals that will be happening.

When in DC, make sure to get away from the National Mall and across the Potomac. Closest metro stop is Rosslyn and then a short walk to the memorial. If driving, limited parking is available on site. This memorial is larger than life and strikes a feeling of patriotism seeing the pride our soldiers have had throughout major conflicts and war zones.

Visiting the Marine Corps War Memorial was humbling and powerful, seeing the monument in person brought home the weight of sacrifice and the strength of those who served throughout the years. It’s more than a memorial, it’s a tribute to unwavering courage. To all Marines past, present and future, thank you for doing what you do.
Semper Fidelis.

Beautiful memorial honoring the many sacrifices of the US Marine Corps. If you can find some quiet moments between the tour buses, it is a great place to reflect upon the heroes who have laid so costly a sacrifice upon the altar of freedom.
