"Semper Fi Marines! Commonly referred to as the Iwo Jima Memorial, the world's tallest standing bronze statue honors the Marines who have defended the United States since November 10, 1775 with every major battle campaign inscribed at its base. The 32-foot-high sculpture was inspired by Joe Rosenthal's Pulitzer Prize–winning photo of five Marines and one Navy hospital corpsman raising the American flag on Mt. Suribachi during one of the most historic battles of World War II. From May to August, on Tuesdays from 7 p.m. to 8:30 p.m., the memorial serves as the backdrop for the phenomenal Sunset Parade, which showcases the Marine Band, Silent Drill Team, and Drum and Bugle Corps. Come on the last Sunday of October to cheer on the thousands of runners who start and finish here for the Marine Corps Marathon."

The Battle of Iwo Jima Memorial was quite a bit larger than we anticipated. During the summer months there are sunset parades featuring military hymns and precision drill performances. Wintertime, it's just maintained without any ceremonies. This Memorial was off of the beaten path. Getting to it and finding parking was a little bit more challenging than anticipated. 5:10 for parking. During the winter months there's generally a lot of traffic. Be prepared for a decent amount of walking during congested periods.

Excellent memorial. Flag was smaller than I expected. Beautiful park area with plenty of parking and rental bikes and scooters.

The monument is bigger than what it looks like from far. I think they did a very good job capturing the energy of that moment. The park is nice, good for picnics, but it could use some more benches and tables. The Navy parade is nice to watch.

Great memorial to visit, it is easy to reach, well maintained. In winter it has a nice view of the National Mall from across the Potomac river. All the major conflicts and major battles the Marine Corps have been involved in are listed around the memorial, it is a great history lesson. Visiting the Marine Corps War Memorial and other memorials on the National Mall should be something every local school does to teach students US history.

Amazing place to visit, fair number of parking spots, walking trails, clean restrooms and you can walk to Netherlands Carrillon. From where you can have a great view of Washington monument, Lincoln Memorial, and Capitol. There's a lawn in front of the Carrillon where people sit, have picnic, and enjoy the views.
