"For all that Spain prides itself on its art and design, it’s rare for the emphasis to be on anything that’s not, well, Spanish. Enter the Hotel Urban, a trendy favorite of the international (and local, for that matter) jet-set crew. The space could double as an Asian and African art museum. From the Papua New Guinean jewelry and ceremonial chairs in the lobby courtyard to the 18th-century Chinese portraits and 19th-century Hindu statues that adorn the walls of rooms and suites, the hotel’s varied collection stands in stark contrast to the sleek, clean-lined architecture and glittering urban design. Even the building itself is a work of art. A grand staircase is lined in gold mosaic done by the preservationists who work on Venice ’s Basilica San Marco, and an imposing central column is carved from Zimbabwean black stone. Loftlike rooms resemble an art collector’s private residence, and floor-to-ceiling windows incorporate yet another work of art—the cityscape outside. Indeed, the city almost steals the show at two of the hotel’s four hip restaurants and bars; those located on the rooftop attract the cognoscenti as much for the views as for their acclaimed cocktails and bites."

Excellent location. Humble, but fully functional rooms. Decent atmosphere. Great value for money. Kind staff. Very clean. Noise wasn't an issue (my room was at the back). The impression is definitely more than just one star hotel. Ideal to sleep over during business trips.

Good basic place for good price in a convenient location near Atocha train station. Our room was small but clean. The hotel has a very small lobby, room for only a few people to wait. The Wi-Fi worked well in our room. We had blackout blinds but very thin walls. Rain-style shower head and plenty of very hot water. The bed and sheets were comfortable but didn't care for the pillows. Nice big towels. Hair dryer supplied! (which was a happy surprise). The various employees at the front desk were all helpful and kind. No USB outlets in the room. The only amenities provided were shower gel and liquid hand soap. Coffee and tea makers provided, and mini fridge. Good value.

I had a terrible experience at this hotel. When I first arrived and went to wash my hands, the water that came out of the faucet was muddy yellow and extremely dirty. I reported it to the hotel, and they promised to fix it right away. They assured me that after I went out for a walk, everything would be fine by the time I came back at night. However, when I returned, the cold water was clean but the hot water was still very dirty. I reported it again to the front desk, but they couldn’t give me any solution. I could tell the staff really wanted to help, but there was nothing they could do. The hotel manager was completely irresponsible!!! No apology and she didn’t even answer the phone! I honestly don’t recommend anyone to stay here. The price isn’t cheap either, and if I could choose again, I’d rather pay a bit more to stay somewhere else.

Fantastic value for price. Don't be scared of the single star. It's a way more decent than many 3 or 4 star places in Spain. It's not a luxury place obviously, but for a couple of nights in Madrid it's an excellent choice. A way better than the nearby Vincci Soho.

This is a very centrally located hotel. Walking distance to all the major sites. The staff at the hotel were wonderful. Very helpful and provided great information about routes to take and restaurants to go to. I will say the room was very small so if you are staying for an extended period of time it might be tough. Also, it is a little tired and in need of some updates. But all and all for a few nights it is a great option.

Great location. Super smooth checkin. Right by train station. Was able to walk only 5-7 minutes from the hotel. Helpful staff allowed me to store my baggage without using the outside storage service for free

Simple, clean, comfortable, quiet place to stay in a great location....easy walk to the train station for day trips or moving on to your next destination! Also easy walk to the Prado, palace & other sights we were interested in. Friendly, helpful front desk staff provided info for us on a day trip to Toledo.

Perfect location for visiting the Prado. Near metro stations. Friendly efficient staff who are very helpful. |Modern spacious room but no privacy in the toilet area ( no door) and space between the bed and the wall very tight for people with access needs.
