"Michelin-Starred Fare and Craft Beers Tucked away above Mikkeller, a craft beer bar on a leafy backstreet, Upstairs has quietly established itself as one of Bangkok’s most exciting restaurants. Recognition of Korean-American chef Dan Bark’s skill came when French fine-dining bible Michelin granted the restaurant a star. Although functional and pleasant, the minimalist dining room gives scant notice of the elevated gastronomic experience provided by Bark and his team. A ten-course tasting menu changes regularly depending on the whim of the chef, featuring creative, unfussy dishes that Bark labels “progressive American” cuisine. If you are feeling flush, the best way to enjoy the food is to go with the beer pairing, which involves specially selected craft brews, cider, and mead."

"The Korean chef offers a unique proposition at MICHELIN-starred Upstairs: a progressive American tasting menu paired with craft beers. Walk down this quiet residential street in Bangkok’s hipster Ekkamai neighbourhood in the evening and you’ll come upon a white two-storey bungalow, its front yard bathed in the cheery glow of fairy lights. A long wall of 30 craft beers on tap greets you as you step into the boisterous Mikkeller Bangkok bar. 'It’s fun, upbeat surroundings, and you come up the stairs and you’ll walk into our home,' says Dan Bark, chef-owner of fine-dining restaurant Upstairs at Mikkeller. 'And I’ll be at the corner cooking for you.'" - Rachel Tan

"At Bangkok’s one-Michelin-starred Upstairs at Mikkeller, Dan Bark orchestrates a symphony of flavours with food, craft beer and coffee. Tried the 10-course tasting menu with beer tasting. Every dish is perfectly done and you will be pleasantly surprised by the flavours and ingredients. Great service! The staff will patiently explain to you every single dish with detailed deceptions of all flavours. It's an enjoyable evening and totally worth it experience!

Don't often eat at a place like this, where food is more than something one eats, each ingredient has an idea behind them, each dish has a story. Of course the end result matters, the beauty to the eyes, the aroma, the deliciousness to the palette can not be deny. Coupling that with a professional and knowledgeable team who spent time conveying the story in meticulous detail, whilst providing quality service level just make the whole experience more than worthwhile. No wonder they were awarded a Michelin Star 2018 and 2019 😁

Highly recommended. Absolutely worthy of the Michelin Star. Innovative multi- course meal with optional beer pairings. Staff was friendly and knowledgeable, keeping us well informed about the courses and adapting well when one of the kegs kicked during our meal. For those that aren't sure about the beer, they will let 2 customers split one pairing.

Good concept and very capable chef that clearly knows what he is doing and has the technique. Only issue is that the operation seems limited and small. Would like to see him get into a bigger kitchen and spread his wings.
