Great place to relax and unwind. They have a wide variety of classic games to play at 25 cents per play. They have great happy hour prices, for example, tonight they had $2 pizza slices. The employees are super friendly and helpful. It is a great atmosphere with plenty of indoor and outdoor seating. The food is limited to pizza only, but it is pretty good.

What a fun place!!! Whether you were raided in the 80's or not, this place is great! We have gone to the Up Down in Des Moines and loved it. Same owners, but the vibe is a little different. Bartender was super helpful and friendly. He said they now will have 6 places. They have one in Nashville and are even opening up one in Birmingham. We ordered pizza from a different counter and the service was good. Make sure you go around everywhere as there are games hidden around every corner and level. We parked down the street at a meter. Looks like there is outdoor seating so when the weather is nice you can sit on the patio. Lots of drink choices and games to play: skeeball, pinball, vintage games, etc. Love it!!

Google
I wish every city had one of these! Genuine arcade and bar. No kids allowed! Lots of games tucked into every multi-level corner. Nice patio to eat on. Bartenders were all friendly. Great beer selection and the pizza was really good. This is my new go-to place when stopping in KC!

Google
Bartenders were very nice. Atmosphere was a vibe. No issues with ordering. Only had issues with Aliens game player 2 being wonky all the other games I played worked great and reminded me of some arcade games from my childhood! Highly recommend as a hangout. Stay inside if you don't like cigarette smoke of course as patio is smoke friendly.

Google
Such a fun location to go out! They have tons of games. I love skee ball and got to play with my friends while having a beverage, it felt like a fun Chuck E. Cheese for adults!

Google
Fun environment, great beverages and pizza, inclusive environment, and amazing staff! This is a favorite place for us to get together and relax - especially with the beautiful patio. Definitely worth the drive for us! I’m looking forward to my next visit!

Google
Up-Down bar is an absolute blast! It’s the perfect combination of a fun arcade and a great bar. The atmosphere is vibrant, and there’s something for everyone, from classic arcade games to pinball machines. The drink menu is fantastic, with a great selection of craft beers and cocktails. It's an awesome spot to hang out with friends, play some games, and enjoy a laid-back night out. The staff is super friendly, and the overall vibe is always lively and welcoming. Whether you’re a seasoned gamer or just looking for a fun night out, Up-Down bar is definitely worth a visit!

Google
I only went for the games. The guy behind the bar counter was very nice and gave me more tokens when Dig It Doug ate my money and didn't work. I enjoyed playing Qbert for the first time.... and about 4 times after that. I was most successful at a pinball game. It was a hot day and rather hot inside the building too. But I enjoyed looking around and watching some girls freaking out over their high skee ball score.

Yelp
Came here for a couple of hours, right after they opened with a group of three. On this particular day it was $1 off local beers. An expansive space inside and outside with plenty of staff to help with anything you needed. All games were a quarter and most were either pinball games or older games from my youth. The upstairs deck is a really a cool spot when you are not playing any games and just want to chill on a nice day. I'd recommend this place, especially for a date night out with groups. Enjoy!

Yelp
This was and will be the spot I take my friends when they visit from out of town. It is such a vibe and when it gets packed, it can be a lot of fun. I have frequented this establishment so much because I love the games, the retro feel, and there is a lot to do with friends. Sometimes the machines don't work quite right but the staff will get it taken care of for you. They have a lot of different beverages and their pizza is surprisingly good! They have great deals which is why i keep coming back for more. It can get packed so just be aware that parking may be difficult and you may be waiting for certain games for a while.

Yelp
Great place to go have drinks and play some games. They have a nice rooftop and outdoor area. If you're hungry grab a slice of pizza, you won't be disappointed! Also, check out their daily specials! They have some great deals. Follow me @zeroforkzgiven for more fun photos and videos!

Yelp
Came here as a "surprise" after trying to find anywhere where I'm staying that had to do with pinball. Up-Down is a Gen X wet dream as we all grew up as young teens in the 80s right at the start of the arcade of awesomeness with games like Pac-Man , Donkey Kong, Centipede, Q-Bert, Burgertime, and so many others. The ones I just mentioned are here! And they work! The facility is dimly lit and has all our great music blasting. Full bar, and pizza on order. Daily specials. The games are all a quarter, but on Thursdays you can get 20 for $2 at the bar, so only $.10 a game which is a great deal. They also have skee-ball, basketball shooters, and did I mention at least 10 pinball machines? In-Out was so much f-ing fun for a good couple of hours. My mixed drink sucked, but the beer was good. Saw enough staff cleaning the machines and running the show. My brother and I also got carded even though I could have been the guy's dad. I believe it's adults only here. When we finally left, the place was starting to get full and you could tell that the groups were really having a good time. Highly recommended.
google avatar

Michael B.

Yelp
Haven't tried the food but the atmosphere is great for all the 80's games all beer's are can unless you want local beer's but that's ok you can get a fanny pack full of coins for a price but worth it

Yelp
Za always saves the night. Mac n cheese pizza is the way to go :) we also had the cheese, meat lover, and pepperoni because everything else was sold out. Friendly service and always enjoy the upbeat vibes :)

Yelp
Fun atmosphere. Fun date night idea. This place has good vibes only. Good staff and security to keep evil out. Although I hail from Smithville, MO, they let me through their doors.
google avatar

Yelp
So fun and INCREDIBLE value. Every game was so cheap! Loved the outdoor seating as well but watch out for the dog water bowls! I stepped in one by accident :/
google avatar

Tamia L.

Yelp
Fun fun fun! Cool vibes. Doorman cordial and no cover! Tired of places charging cover just to come in and no kinda dj or dance floor... we have fun on our favorite arcade game PAC MAN, Skee ball and Bball!!! Oh and Jenga!!! Drinks and bartenders are reasonable and super cool and attentive! The pizza - Buffalo Chicken and Pepperoni was fire!!! That Buffalo flavor, cheese was soooo good!!!

Yelp
Up-Down is one of my favorite places in Kansas City, and it's by far the best "Barcade" that I've ever been to. Full bar, 80s/90s/00s arcade games (that all cost 1 token), pinball, Skee-ball, 4-player Super Nintendo, a great rooftop and a large patio area located in the Crossroads. All of the employees and bartenders are fantastic, they have great specials, and the best part- 21+ all day, every day so no having to dodge little ones when you're trying to do your Mortal Kombat "fatality" combo! It's an amazing place to spend an afternoon- particularly when the weather is nice and they have the windows open! They always have some 80s/90s movie on, they play good music and they have some pretty solid pizza if you need a snack. Honestly, I can't say anything negative about it.

Yelp
My friends and I had a girls day out, we stopped by Up-Down for drinks on the patio since it's was so nice out. They have a Sunday Special: $25 for 6 pack and a pound(Arcade Tokens) We played some Arcade games (the 4 man PAC-Man was so much fun, it's like a table top with 4 chairs, 1 person can play or up to four)and enjoyed the Patio, they have a big Jenga and a few other games. The Bartenders were friendly, it wasn't too busy when we went.
google avatar

Jerrin H.

Yelp
Such a fun place to go and enjoy nostalgic games while having a drink! We loved it while on our trip and definitely recommend stopping by for a date night.
google avatar

Yelp
The ambiance in this place is awesome. It's all 80's and 90's. Video games. Arcade games. Not a great place for large tables to gather unless you go sit on the rooftop. The rooftop is very cool. I spent the majority of my time there. Prices seemed high for me, but probably right on for Kansas City. (I'm from Sioux City.) A bartender downstairs made me a kick-ass mocktail. It was delicious. I also had 2 slices of pizza and both were amazing. I'd love to return to this place someday!
google avatar

Jeri L.

Yelp
Fun environment, drinks are okay decent price. The games are miss and hit. Service is always good they're friendly
google avatar

Nate F.

Yelp
Still one of my favorite bars in KC, just avoid it during weekend nights unless you want to be in a crowded spot. Still, this place is amazing and offers a great selection of drinks and games. Always a great date night location.
google avatar

Stephanie K.

Yelp
I LOVE up/down. Sundays are a pound (of coins) and a 6-pack (of beer) for $25. We love the fun, welcoming atmosphere. All games are 25¢. They have all your favorite arcade games from the 80s and 90s. Service is quick and friendly. Don't sleep on the pizza. It may not be Kelly's but it's second best.
google avatar

Veronica S.

Yelp
Fun times with games I grew up playing had a blast pin ball skee ball donkey Kong to list goes on free tokens on your birthday
google avatar

Jolene M.

Yelp
Last minute girls night here. Such a fun night with friends. Great weekly specials. Drinks are reasonable. Plenty of games. Lots of outdoor seating. Feel like a kid again...I did when I killed it at Jenga.

Yelp
We thoroughly enjoyed our afternoon at Up-Down. Yes, we're those annoying Gen X-ers who believe that we grew up during the greatest gaming era. We forgot about some of the classics (Track and Field) and fondly remembered playing others (Indiana Jones) at Metro North. Service was prompt, polite, and fun. Hey, you're working in an arcade, what's not to love? You can check the website to see the current lineup, which games are currently on the floor (GREAT idea!) so you have something to look forward to. UD's layout is cool and unlike any arcade you remember. There's a balcony with a few pinball machines and sleepers if you need some more space for your elbows. Our main feedback would be to inspect the games weekly for broken buttons and/or malfunctions. We played 4 games that weren't working properly. And yes, we told the staff.

Yelp
Up-Down is so much fun, regardless of whether you drink or not. It has no cover charge, and there are a variety of single-player and multiplayer games, so all you need is yourself and some cash or quarters, since Up-Down is coin-operated for most, if not all, of the games. There's a token machine that exchanges cash for tokens at a pretty good exchange rate. I would say Up-Down isn't the place for: - First dates: This place is always crowded at pretty much any time of night, and it's hard to have meaningful conversations. Most of the games are single player, and the games meant for groups are hard to edge your way into with just two people. - Signature drinks: Up-Down has a full bar and a beer menu, but since I'm not much of a beer drinker, I was looking for something closer to a cocktail. The bartender wasn't sure what to make but suggested the Purple Rain, which, thankfully, was perfect for me: sweet, mild, and a little citrusy. - Food: they've got a pizza counter at the back with a menu, but I haven't seen it actually operating. Either eat before or after, but don't count on pizza being there. Otherwise, Up-Down is a blast and would definitely recommend!

Leslie K.

Yelp
This place is awesome! I spent hours reliving my childhood and loved it. All my old school OG games, Ms. Pac-Man, Tetris, Donkey Kong, Burgertime, Frogger, and more.
google avatar

Ilene H.

Yelp
Had a blast here. If you were born before 1985, cone relive your past. Not many places have the games they do. Upstairs you have some fantastic pin ball; from Star Wars to Spider-Man. Best pinball game they have though is Godzilla. We were here for 2 hours; from Galaga to Street Fighter... Mortal Kombat... I also love that they play old movies and good tunes. Best part? 21 and over. No kids. I'll be back
google avatar

Aaron S.

Yelp
Absolutely love this place. Whether by yourself or in a group, UpDown is a blast with just about every classic game you can think of. We played some NBA Jam, Rampage, House of the Dead, Ninja Turtles, Time Crisis II...and that's a small fraction of what's available. On top of that, they seem to always have a classic movie and classic pro wrestling on the TVs which makes me love it that much more (not to mention a rooftop patio and lower level patio). If you don't mind the crowd, there's not really a more fun place to be.
google avatar

Colleen L.

Yelp
Up Down is a fun little spot and has plenty of options to make anyone happy. First, it's an arcade bar. There's so many different games-pinball, mortal combat, skee ball, and everything in between. There's even games in the outdoor patio like Jenga and connect four. Tokens aren't expensive and they have lots of deals during the week. The patio and upper patio are both awesome when the weather is nice. Plenty of seating. And if the air show is going on, it's a great place to sit and watch it if you don't want to go to the airport. They have a ton of craft beer and it's all good. They often have things on tap that you can't find elsewhere. They also have pizza. You can buy it by the slice or a full pie. The slices are huge. My favorite is the Mac and cheese. It's just cheesy carbs on top of cheesy carbs. Go grab a beer, a slice, and play some games!

Yelp
Came here on a whim looking for something fun to do, can honestly say I highly recommend it to anyone over 21 looking to have the best time. Up Down has a variety of classic arcade games (including but not limited to: Galaga, Super Mario Bros, Tapper, Centipede, Mortal Kombat, Donkey Kong, and at least 8 different pinball machines), they also have life-size Jenga and Connect Four. They also have fairly cheap drinks (we got 4 different ones and with tip it was less than $30) and different specials on food: Friday is $2 pizza slices & $1 bag of chips. Bonus: the staff is super nice and attentive. The vibes are fun and remind me of being a child at an arcade (except this time I can drink).

Yelp
This downtown Kansas City establishment It's so much fun. It is a throwback bar with video games from the 80s and 90s. I played Pac-Man, Ms. Pac-Man, Skee ball and multiple different pinball games. We were there on a Friday And we got cups of free tokens because we were there right when it opened at 3 PM. We played for hours with those tokens! They athere are many many beers on tap. They also have pizza which is not exactly gourmet pizza but it was very reasonably priced. I'm gonna have to edit this arm there is a little upstairs area with more pinball machines. It was just a lot of fun I would recommend this as a must go place when you're in Kansas City.
google avatar

Yelp
Went late afternoon on a weekday and enjoyed some old time arcade games and a good selection of beer and drinks. Became crowded quickly with people having a good time. We took off to check out Torn Lable brewery
google avatar

Shelby Z.

Yelp
We came to Up Down to celebrate New Year's Eve. They never charge a cover according to their website, and it was great to spend the evening here since most other places were charging a fortune. For that night specifically, they also had a balloon drop and free champagne toast. I've been to many arcade bars in my life, and I really enjoyed this one. It's pretty big, and offers a LOT of different games to play! You do have to purchase tokens in order to play them, but even just for $5 you can get a good chunk of them. Drinks were great, there's ample seating and they even have a small area in the back where you can order pizza. I also loved the large screens on the wall playing music videos all evening! This is a really cool place! They also have some parking of their own.
google avatar

Kristi W.

Yelp
Such a fun bar! Lots of arcade games along with skeeball, pop a shot, etc. Bartenders were friendly. I especially loved taking a break from playing and sitting on the rooftop. Great for a group of friends!
google avatar

Marissa S.

Yelp
Quirky, and fun bar with tons of classic arcade games as well as a rooftop area. Some nights can get pretty busy, but service has always been quick regardless of the crowd. Decent-sized beer selection too!
google avatar

Hilary L.

Yelp
Up-Down is a fun, little arcade bar located in the Crossroads in Kansas City. As a perpetual child at heart, I loved getting to play such a variety of arcade games. I'd never been before (we went on Halloween night and it was BUSY), and I'd like to go back again. Many of the games were unfamiliar to me, but of course there were some classic games like Pac-Man and pinball. The bar itself is large, and, despite being busy, our service was great! We never had to wait long for drinks. I felt like prices of drinks were pretty standard for the area. In addition to the games, I really enjoyed the upstairs patio which offered a great view of the surrounding area. Worth stopping in and trying your hand at some arcade games!
google avatar

Allie S.

Yelp
Really liked the atmosphere and drinks were a good price. The upstairs patio was so nice!
google avatar

Darin S.

Yelp
Fantastic arcade bar. Great selection of local beers and arcade games. I love that they have Killer Queen, Ice Cold Beer, Tapper, and Mrs PAC Man (on fast mode). Only complaint is that they killswitch all the games at the end of the night, so beware if you have a high score going and they call last call! Always will make a stop here when in KCMO

Aaron B.

Yelp
Great beer bar and has tons of awesome throwback games got a lil crowded but there was enough games for everyone awesome patio with fire pits too
google avatar

Amanda M.

Yelp
Come on! 25cent games, a wall of cold draft beers, giant pizza slices AND a rooftop patio bar? 5 stars! Honestly, just go. You'll have a great time!
google avatar

Katie S.

Yelp
Wow! Up- Down was such a fun night out! We went before 9pm so we got double coins. All the games were only 25 cents and with double coins we played all night! Around 11:30 the arcade was super packed and there was a long line for skeeball. There was a wide variety of old arcade games including Pac-Man, pinball, a bunch of Mario games and more! The drinks were cheap and delicious - we got 2 Red Bull vodkas for $16. Pizza was hot and ready also! We got the Mac & Cheese pizza which did not disappoint. I would definitely come back here again with another group of friends or a date night!
google avatar

Cole H.

Yelp
Packed - service is fine and games are good every once and awhile. I will bring my out of town friends here.

Alexis V.

Yelp
A place to enjoy pizza and nostalgia. Guys wearing that band you never heard of named, "Today is the day." You find all the faces of mortal combat, Mario, pin-ball, skeet ball, crazy taxi, Nintendo 64 party, pac man, and some of the old 1980's dorm room classics. You'll hear classic rock or indie rock playing from the speakers shadowing the bartender who has been seen to be wearing, "I give free hugs," on his t-shirt. Music and games offer a place for bachelor and bachelorette parties or the person who enjoys listening to The Front Bottoms-Twin Size Mattress or possibly a frenchy feel of "When I Get My Hands on You," The New Basement Tapes. Enjoy a ham or PBR. Free sours if you ask! Pizza bar in the back. Rooftop bar and smoking allowed.

Ann H.

Yelp
place is great but the employees make it where you don't want to visit this establishment. Once they get rid of the attitude filled employees, we will return to play games. We come twice a week but he's still there working.
google avatar

Gerald H.

Yelp
Stopped here while in KC as something to try while heading towards Union Station. Not the biggest spot still jam-packed with stuff and a stacked bar. The whole barcade usually makes me feel weird but upon walking in I liked this place immediately. They have stand up arcades, sit in arcades, pinball machines upstairs, gun shoot 'em ups, as well as an N64 where you can get a different game and play with 3 friends on a split screen. Pretty cool. What's even better is the cost of the games aren't tailored to how sought after the game is - as it was in old arcades. Meaning the machines that everyone wants to play aren't a $1 whereas the older machines are only a quarter. I appreciate that. What I also appreciated was that the first people in go a free tokens. We ended up not being able to use all ours and donating them to others. The bar was stocked full of different beer taps, what looked to be plenty of options with liquor and the bartenders seemed nice enough. I would say parking could be tight but we lucked out with a spot on the street behind here. Recommended - I really liked it here.

Shiloh W.

Yelp
My favorite place to relax and unwind. Please come and enjoy this nostalgic experience
google avatar

Abby A.

Yelp
Very fun experience! Came on a Friday afternoon and got a cup full of tokens that allowed us about an hour of gameplay a piece. Also, $2 slices until 8pm at least on Friday, I estimate they are between 1/6-1/4 size of the pizza so quite generous. Super affordable and fun opportunity to play Galaga, skee ball, pin ball, basketball, and Mario brothers/pac man among many others. Keep in mind it is busy on the evenings/weekends. Would definitely try again!

Hailey J.

Yelp
GIVE HANK A RAISE RIGHT NOW!!!!!!!!!!! This man took our order upstairs and brought it to us in less than 2 mins. HE EVEN GAVE US COINS!!!!!!! Would def hit the Photo Booth with him! Slay that house down! 10/10
google avatar

Yelp
Everything. This place is above the worst to go to and have a good time everything feels very controlled and doesn't feel like a place to go have fun simple as that.
google avatar

Ray G.

Yelp
Heaven on earth! Didn't want to leave. We need this spot in Cali! The Mac and cheese pizza was bomb.
google avatar

Sherelle L.

Yelp
Love this place! If you want to go and play some ole school games with adult vibes, this is the place. Coins & drinks are reasonably priced. No cover charge, and just a good time!
google avatar

Dev T.

Yelp
Always love going to Up-Down! This is a great spot during the day or later at night. It does get crowded but you can always go to the outdoor patio or rooftop patio to get some air. There are large connect fours and Jenga outside in addition to the arcade games inside. The pizza is amazing, this surprised me the first time I had it! I love taking visiting family and friends here!
google avatar

Tracy C.

Yelp
So much fun! The games are cheap, they have good drinks and the pizza slices are good when you're a little hungry. We can spend hours there playing all the games. Always a great time!

Becca L.

Yelp
Such a fun location to go out! They have tons of games. I love skee ball and got to play with my friends while having a beverage, it felt like a fun Chuck E. Cheese for adults!
