Unity Books Auckland

A gorgeous bookstore with the best range of books in Auckland! There are so many great queer, philosophy, and Japanese contemporary fiction for me, and there’s always something new to check out. Whatever you’re into - they should have at least a few books for it! The atmosphere of the store is fantastic. It’s very peaceful, but still very inspiring. I also love their loyalty card system.

This is my first book store in Auckland and my favorite one too. Love the ambience, the books, the categories, the service, everything about it. Made a few purchases and will be back again!

I love this store. I can wander around and find all kinds of gems. I've also ordered books at several times. They came fairly quickly and got a call they'd arrived.

A wonderful bookshop. Staff are so kind - if they do not have the book you want they will order it in from wherever. I could not get into the city to pick up my order and one of the staff offered to drop it off at my home - no charge. This is service that goes way beyond the norm.

4 February 2025. From personal experience I ordered a book in store here and it arrived recently. I went with intention to pick it up today. The staff gave me the wrong quote but wouldn’t allow loyalty stamps for the book I ordered, which is the main reason why I purchased here. I was also told loyalty card was usable. Even though they were nice enough to sell me at the original price that has been communicated to me, the business should take full responsibility for the mistake on their end and also allow the loyalty card as well. I have been buying books here and been using the loyalty card as an incentive to buy here and only Unity Books. This was a problem on their end. Interestingly the book was about advertising maybe since the book is with them they perhaps could give it a read through themselves. I unfortunately find this very misleading and I am wasting my time. Do not recommend this place anymore based on unfair trade practices, misleading, and an inconvenience. Unprofessional. True and honest opinion however I did get a refund though :)… However all the purchases, effort, and waiting to me felt wasted. If you value honest trade and professionalism then this is a place based on personal experience I wouldn’t recommend anymore unfortunately. Thank you. Andy.

Unity Books won best bookshop in the world in 2020! Easy to see why, there are soo many titles and have really clued-in, caring and helpful staff 📚

It's the king of the Auckland inner-city bookshops for a reason! Too small for all the books and ideas packed inside, but at the same time an absolute treasure trove of interesting, well-curated titles in every topic under the sun with helpful staff and there is no way I can get out without collecting another haul. So good. Go support physical local shops! Amazon can't curate like these guys, and the chain stores don't cater for how smart you are.

We received a parcel in the mail from Unity Books. A dear friend in Auckland had ordered a selection of their favourite children’s books and sent them directly from the bookstore to us here in Canada for our new babes. I was so impressed by how they were packaged up and sent to us! In a paper bag, within a cardboard sleeve, wrapped in their gorgeous wrapping paper. All recyclable! Ka pai Unity! Love the little taste of home form our new home.
