Umami Burger

Loved loved loved the new menu by Alvin Cailian!!! I was so excited to try the new burgers that I totally forgot to take pics of them before I started eating and they are as delicious as I expected!!! I had the Truffle burger and my daughter had the Reggiano both were out of this world good! I am looking so forward to trying each and every burger on the menu, honestly I don't know how I left without taking another one or two of these burgers home with me!? We went to the downtown LA location and what pleasure it was to be able to sit at the bar on a Saturday evening and chat with the staff who are incredibly friendly, such a beautiful location can't wait to return!

I’ve got to show this place some respect. Anyone who would open up a burger joint in the same city as In N Out has got to have guts. That’s the only Kudo I’ll throw them though. I’ve had a better burger experience at Carl’s Jr. I was hoping for something special. It wasn’t here.

Pretty good burgers right in the middle of downtown Los Angeles. Lots of unique choices from your same ole boring burgers which my family really liked. Even get some fun dipping sauces with your meal. The food was cooked to how you want (well, medium rare, etc.). Have good sized kids portions, so even a 14 yr old can get full off a kids menu. Heck, even an adult easily could as well. The food was cooked and to our table in 10 to 15 min. Even choice of buns are not your same old boring standard. The prices are not out of line for what you get in terms of portion size, freshness, quality and value. Granted a family of 4 will run you between $45 - $70 depending on if you get drinks and what drink you chose. They do have a full bar at this location. The area is safe and on the upscale end. Well as good as it can be for Skid Row being within blocks. (I just want to take all those homeless people back to my house and help them it is so sad to see this life). Note: The architecture and historic buildings around the restaurant is amazing, so bring a good camera. I can't believe Los Angeles doesn't do better taking care of their sidewalks.

Thank you Sean for the amazing service I was in a slight hurry and he helped me fast and efficient I enjoyed a 5 star vegetarian impossible burger and was out of there in 20min great service Not the best parking ideally but it’s LA I don’t expect anything different - I was overly impressed with this stop Only ever been here one other time and it was in the airport this place topped it ! I didn’t realize til I got my food I was served truffle fries so if you’re not into truffle or anything just make sure to tell the servers they will accommodate ! Thanks again for a great experience they also had a full bar which was impressive I would come back on a Friday night

I tried ultimate bacon today. It is pretty good, if the meat putter could be more crispy then it would be much better. Shake shack still my no 1 burger without a doubt.

Indoor and outdoor seating, wide open feel inside, seating not crowded. They carry the Impossible Burger, a creation from the Impossible company who had mission to make a plant based Burger suitable for meat lovers. For $16 you can get one at Umami. Free refillable fountain drinks - the tropical iced green tea tastes like Lipton but it's non sweetened and is super refreshing on these hot summer days we've been enduring. Piping hot shoe string fries. I ordered the truffled beet salad and added seared ahi tuna. It came with a generous portion of truffled feta cheese that tasted absurdly good with the arugula. Nordy ordered the Manly without mustard. That burger came bursting with fried onions. We got sliders and fries as an appetizer for the table and they brought out sauces for dipping. Dipping sauces here are legit. Garlic aoli as one. An orange colored sauce that is spicy and tangy and creamy as another. A ranch sauce that tasted like it made love to parmesan cheese was their third. And ketchup was also served. You'll pay a little more for a burger here, around $12-$15. But it's super good and the quality of meat is top notch.

I came on a Friday night with a party of 10, and they were nice enough to accommodate all of us quickly without a reservation somehow. Overall loved the chicken burger I got, I only wished the portion was bigger. Note that sides are additional.

Had a short wait despite it being 8pm, but since the pace takes reservations, this is generally a non-issue. The service was excellent. Promptly took my order, brought drinks, refilled drinks, and brought the meal. Receiving and paying the check was very quick. The food itself was excellent. Thin-cut fries were very tasty, and my Impossible Burger Classic was fantastic. Would highly recommend.

It was my first time coming to this place and the burgers were really delicious. I also enjoyed the fries they were cooked perfectly. I got a shake as well and it made the perfect combo. Unami burger offers something a little different from your ordinary burger stand in Los Angeles. This location is in dowtown LA so obviously the biggest downside is finding parking. The inside of the restaurant is nice and chill and makes for a good night out or a date. Pros -Food was good -They sell alcohol Cons -Parking can be hard to find

Let me start by saying that I LOVE Umami and come here a lot for cravings. However this is my first time at this location and now I understand why other people rated it low. First, parking. Typical for downtown LA. Took us about half an hour of driving around until we found a spot. Luckily the meters are free on Sundays so there's that. We found one along 9th St (on 9th and Broadway) so it's a great parking spot for here. We walk into Umami and there are ZERO workers there. Waited about 10 minutes. Two people were eating at a table so I asked them if anyone was working. They said yes and they had to put their food together...? We wait. Other than them, the place was empty at 5 in the afternoon. Strange. About 10-15 minutes later, two more people walk in and sit by the bar. Finally someone comes out and pours them a drink. She asks me if I need more time to know what I want... I order right away. We get the food to go. Upon opening it, I immediately can tell it looks different that what we've ordered at other locations. My go-to is the truffle burger and truffle fries. The servings are much smaller here (about at least 1/5 of the normal size). The fries and the burger look so plain too. They didn't have things you can add at other locations (like the fried egg). It tastes just as plain as it looks. Actually it tastes worse. It doesn't even taste edible to be honest, and to say that about my favorite burger place is just depressing. The burger looks like it wasn't made fresh and was just heated up... also the truffle ketchup was white instead of the usual red. I'll post photos. Just... no. Avoid this location like Covid and go to another one. The one in Anaheim is what we visit the most. If you haven't tried it there, let me know how it goes. The difference between the two is like night and day.

Came here for DineLA to try their truffle burger. I am a fan of truffle so when I noticed that this place was on the DineLA list, it was on my list of places to try. Trying to find street parking was a nightmare. So I parked at the parking lot @ Burlington for $8 flat rate (Sunday price). Gave me a chance to walk around the area and check out the stores. Walked in the restaurant and there was no service at all. Seemed like they were busy in the kitchen. It was fine...I needed to use the restroom. When finished, one of the staffs was at the bar counter so I headed that way to let him know a table for 2. Afterwards, I asked him if they were doing DineLA since I didn't see any DineLA menu avail. I asked him like 3 times then it kicked it lol Placed my order and got the foods. Service was a bit slow but the staffs seems pretty chill and nice. I wasn't that hungry so me and my nephew shared. The waiter gave us 2 sets of silverware. That was nice. I did the DineLA offer which was $15 for a choice of any of the burgers, choice of fries and a drink. I ordered a side of Buffalo Mac & cheese as well. The truffle burger was pretty good. They automatically made it medium rare. I preferred it to be a little more cooked but it was still good. I tasted the cheese but the truffle flavor was somewhat weak. The truffle fries was tasty. Nothing outta the ordinary. Again, the truffle flavor wasn't strong enough. Buffalo Mac & cheese for $4.50 was not bad at all. Although, I can make at home but I wouldn't mind getting it again. I also like how they have variety of sauces. I was given the truffle ketchup (no truffle taste) but still good. I also got the jalapeños ranch. It had a little kick which I do like. Overall, the experience was ok. A place you can sit and chill. I don't mind coming again for another DineLA experience but again, parking there can be a nightmare.

Ambiance: There is a lot of indoor seating. Based on my take out order, the customer service seemed good. Taste test: This was my first time trying this place after passing by it for years and I was disappointed. The chicken sandwich I got wasn't the best and it could be because the pickles were too sour. I wasn't a fan of the sauce they used in the sandwich. The fries were good. But if you want Ketchup, they charge you extra for it. I had good customer service otherwise I would have given 3/5 for the sandwich.

I've always liked Umami Burger as a burger and alcohol meet up spot. I realize now that if it's just the food then Umami is just 'ok'. I was open to try their impossible burger because the picture on the menu looked pretty good. But EVERYONE knows that the picture is always better than what you get. I made a hunger-based decision but also wanted to make a smart food choice. It's a silly choice... like ordering a no-meat cheese sandwich at In-N-Out. Me dummy. Re: Their Impossible burger... If you've ever missed the nostalgia of one of those high school hamburgers with the dry bun and patty with the slice of cheese barely melted... on this day, the "impossible" was that exact burger... but with better veggies and bun. If Umami could get the guy that makes the Carls jr version of Impossible meat and put it on THIS burger THEN you've got a decent item. I know I played myself by trying to be conscious about what I was going to eat this day. Don't go here for your plant-based options. Eat the real meat because they really make a better MEAT burger. Tip: Share an order of fried pickles.

It's alright. I had the black garlic burger and the truffle fries. The patty itself was super flavorful and juicy, if not a little too oily - the bun soaks up too much oil. The downside is you can barely taste the black garlic at all. I think the burger itself is just too plain for what it's supposed to be and what it costs. The truffle fries were solid, though they could be crunchier. Truffle ketchup goes really well with this.

Oh em gee. Their pastrami smash burger is so so so good. I've loved Umami for years from when I lived in OC. Living downtown for years now and hadn't visited our Umami burger because ... well ... we live closer to Shake Shack. But I wanted to try something different the other day and remembered how much I loved Umami burger. It was so nice. The outdoor dining experience was fantastic and me and my husband loved our meals. He had the hot fried chicken and Manly fries. We returned the next day for more. Now we gotta get a hold of ourselves and start working out more cuz Umami is too good!

Burger was good, but service was nonexistent. We went in and nobody greeted us. There were only about 5 other people in the restaurant. We walked around aimlessly, waiting for somebody - ANYBODY - to seat us or give us a menu. It's like we were invisible. We wanted to place our order but nobody came to help us even after standing there for a good 10 minutes. We walked out and saw the QR code outside so we ordered online and seated ourselves. I got a text saying my food was ready, and I guess they packed it for takeout. We took out all the boxes and the fries were cold. They also gave us sweet potato fries instead of the thin fries that we ordered, probably because it was more convenient for them to pack cold and already-made fries. We told them about the mistake and they fixed it... but after that there was literally ZERO service. Oh also, not all the workers were wearing a mask. Pretty ironic for a place that has a sign requiring masks.

I didn't take a picture of my burger, I'm pissed I didn't. What happened to this place? I ordered last night through Caviar. We got fried pickles, regular thin fries, Impossible Classic and the Classic. Has this place changed due to COVID? Our burgers were tiny. It was plain regular bun - normally don't they do the brioche bun with the burn-in U on it? Though the patties tasted good it was tiny. They forgot to put bacon in my boyfriend's burger that I paid an extra amount for. The number of pickles and fries you got were mini. I don't think that was a $40 meal. The portion sizes looked like McDonald's. Umami tastes pretty good but what's up with all the shrinking of portions and forgetfulness of my bacon and the regular plain bun?

I've been to Umami burber maybe twice before, it was good from what I remember. Tonight they just were so disappointing. First they said they had no French fries, so I had to make my own. Second they made my burger wrong, there was nothing on it but cheese and it was supposed to have onions and lettuce. I don't think I'll be rushing back to get food from here again.

Was in town for a show and wanted a simple burger before heading to the venue. Ordered the BBQ burger with waffle fries. Burger was just "OK" and was VERY salty. Tired to order it medium rare but the bartender said they only serve one way "like smashburger". The waffle fries however were VERY good. Not a bad joint if you need food fast but I think McDonalds' burger might actually be better.

How does a burger place have no fries? I ordered a truffle burger, a classic burger ( no pickles, no tomato) and truffle fries. The driver calls to tell me they are OUT OF FRIES!!! He asks if I'd like a replacement and I request tots. Instead of acknowledging my request, he hangs up. So I make the request through the app...which shows that he read it. Still, no response. 30 minutes later he delivers my food. No fries, no tots and the classic burger is meat and cheese on a bun(no lettuce, onion...nada) I check my receipt...and I am charged for fries!!! Never again Unami...and Uber Eats, come on. This guy has a 99% rating

Friday night concert next door at The Orpheum. Probably could have scheduled appropriately to accommodate all the additional flow of business from the show. Manager only bothered serving MEN who were ordering cocktails. I watched one woman wait 10 minutes at the bar with the manager right in front of us not saying one word. We get it you're busy but kindly make some sort of contact. She left. Next gentleman sat down with his son. It was probably super exciting to bring his son to this awesome concert only to sit at the bar and again, not one word. They left. My fries never showed up after 40 minutes. Didn't get to enjoy my Tito's & soda because by the time I got it I had to leave. Too bad I didn't know The Orpheum had a bar & restaurant. Next time I'll pass on Umami, what I should have done in the first place.

Umami Burger hasn't been on my radar for a long time, but I had to go whenan unprecedented free burger and fries offer came along. Perhaps this wasn't your run-of-the-mill visit. But considering how busy it was, I think this is a proper review. Ordered the truffle burger (lettuce wrapped) with the thin and crispy fries. The burger was cooked pretty well. The lettuce wrap was literally a WRAP...I had to wade through the leaves to actually see where my patty was. It ended up being easier to eat the thing with a fork and knife. Fries were crispy, but a bit saltier than I would've preferred. Overall, more solid than spectacular. But free is free. Service here was as good as you can expect on a day like this. Place was BUSY packed at 3 pm on a Friday, which obviously would not have normally been the case. Everyone was definitely busting their asses to take orders and make sure people were taken care of. I definitely made sure to tip my waiter well for his hard work. Again, I totally forgot this place was on the grid but it's nice to remember it exists. Wouldn't mind coming back.

Where do I start??? I ordered my food at 6:21 according to the receipt stapled to my bag... why did it take until 6:58 to get a COLD bag of burgers? Everything in my bag is cold as ice. Then, to see about 7 employees march/stomping around like they are actually doing something? Lol! It's laughable... I legit want my tip back. No good! Never EVER again... I was super excited, too... excessive wait... I am a waiter, also... but- you guys should know better! Shame on you!!! It says on the ticket "HOT"... SIKE! Cold!!!!!! Lol!!!! ZERO STARS!!!!

As a vegan I've been avoiding this place for quite a bit but a friend pointed out that they have the IMPOSSIBLE burger now! They have it in 3 separate ways. You can make it a double cheeseburger if you so wish. I stuck to one patty and said "where can I get a drink around here?" They serve beer and have angry orchard cider. We got 2 beers and 2 ciders and waited for 15-20 minutes on the chairs by the door. The employee was friendly. Lots of mobile orders were rushing through so that probably delayed our food. At least you can drink inside. (Or at least we did). My impossible burger was excellent! I was very happy to be fed. Recommend the meat-eaters to try a double impossible burger :) nothing to lose

My husband and I are at Umami Burger waiting for service....its been about 30 mins. We were supposed to go to revervations at Engine Co. 28--however traffic downtown made us late. Tonights Joe Jackson concert at the Orpheum is the reason we are here... My suggestion is that you will spend at least 1.5 hours here 40 minutes waiting to place an order. The concert is in 30 minutes--lets see if the food arrives before curtain?

I got bamboozled!!! I came to have the Burger which I've defended for years as the Best Burger( I've had my fair share of burgers). The Umami Manly Burger! So I come here with my Godson, I order my Favorite Reg, Manly Burger with Truffle fries. When it comes out, instantly I said NO! That's not my burger. The waiter says Manly Burger? Yes but what's this, I said? We talked and they explained they make it a bit different since Covid. What the hell does Covid have to do with the Manly Burger? Anyway, I gave it a go. Waiter offer to add lettuce & tomato. Which the OG Manly doesn't come with. HUGE DISAPPOINTMENT I Said several times to both staff that were there. WHY WOULD YOU CALL THIS THING SOMETHING THAT ITS NOT? There should be some sort of note or notice that tells everyone the burgers have changed a lot! And just so you know we kept the original names for completely different burgers. There's gotta be something in the Umami Franchise Agreement that disallows this kind of stuff! Lol! This review is 90% about the (Un)Manly Burger, 5% for the workers not owning up to the obvious mistakes from the company(their response was I told you to look at the qr code for the menu). How many people go to Mc Donald's thinking, I better check to make sure they still put Mac Sauce and a 3rd bun on a Big Mac? They totally changed the Burger, Change the name!!!! Looks like they are trying to get in on the smash burger game but it's not even a smash burger patty... They're stuck between 2 worlds... Decide and Commit. I still have hope that other locations still Sell the good stuff the right way. At least the fries were on point just as I remembered them. Fries were the last 5%. Burger was a 0 star Weak! Highly disappointed in this location. I had to send my burger back because it wasn't cooked all the way. Literally pink inside my patty. No seasoning on fries or burgers. We ordered lemonades that tasted like water with lemon squeezed in it.. the burger was cold and my cheese wasn't melted. Do yourself a favor and go to Umami in Santa Monica!!!! They season your fries and the burgers are cooked thoroughly and juicy with seasoning. I've never been disappointed at the Santa Monica location. The service is better, food better, drinks better.

My daughter and I stopped in here prior to an Orpheum show. Fortunately we were well ahead of the show start time - we needed the time! We suffered very long lapses between visits from the wait/bar staff. The entire visit was well over 90 minutes and all we ordered was a burger and fries, drinks and a desert item. When I finally got someone to give us our bill, they gave its one for over $100. It was for another table. We finally got it straightened out and GTFO. They were laughably understaffed.

Pathetically slow service coupled with a mediocre burger = not so good. The only saving graces were the good beer selection and the truffle shoestring fries. The place wasn't even that crowded and we waited like 4-ever to get drinks and to place our main orders. When it was time to go, there was no one around to take our bill (so we scrounged some cash and left w/o a word). The truffle fries have some gloppy cheese on top which probably should go, IMHO, otherwise delicious..table-sharing sized. The Impossible burger was probably the smallest $16 burger I've recently seen and it wasn't that impressive...a bit tasteless w/o the fine ketchup (and that white sauce they serve with the truffle fries). Ho Hum and hardly impossible (impossibly expensive given the taste?!?). Lots of hard chairs, hard surfaces in this semi-industrial city-chic setting...But the decision on whether to go back won't be hard at all.

The one star review is literally just for them forgetting parts of my order not one day, but two days in a row. The second day after I had already called to leave a complaint about them forgetting my truffle fries on 04/10/2021. On 4/11/2021 I ordered the og sampler with a side of Mac n cheese (as well as the truffle fries they replaced) and this time instead of forgetting the truffle fries, they forgot the Mac n cheese. I didn't realize until I got all the way back home to Hawthorne. I was so bummed out that I didn't want to pester them again about forgetting items off my order. I really enjoy Umami but I probably won't be back for a few months. The only reason I didn't check the bag is because they seal the bags, so my presumption is that they double check for accuracy.

I thought I reviewed this place already, but it turns out I havent so here it goes. Every time I want a burger in Downtown, this is where I go. The service is always lovely. They offer drinks with paper straws which helps save the turtles. I always go for lemon water but they do have a full bar with cocktails. Its even better if you go during happy hour because they have good deals on tje drinks. I usually get the truffle burger (well done) with truffle fries. I dont know how exactly to describe this burger, but its juicy, flavorful and very addictive to the point where you go home craving another even though you are full. They also have other burgers including the impossible burger for all the vegetarian yelpers out there. The place is very clean, trendy and has very unique music. So yes I recommend everyone should stop here at least once to check it out.

Truffle umami burger was top 5. Now it changed to smaller portion, less gourmet toppings, and overcooked beef patty. 1 star because of what I knew they were only to change up to a bottom 5. They downgraded their quality to try and compete with shake shack I'm assuming but its a joke if they think they can survive the drastic drop in quality. Wouldn't be surprised if the current investment company purposely tanking the brand. Feel bad for the employees and anyone involved. Hope they start applying for a better job somewhere else. Won't be coming back to any locations.

If this were years ago, I would have expected to wait in a line to get a table, but as is today this location is almost always empty, as it was when my partner and I dined here over the weekend. It's a shame, because the food was shockingly good. We ordered both vegan and carnivore fare and the quality was excellent for everything. I highly recommend the tempura onion rings which came with jalapeno ranch -- the spice really brought out the flavor of the sauce! I ordered a slider trio ($13) which let me try a few different burger types: fried chicken, beef (the "Manly"), and the Impossible (vegan). I highly recommend this so you can get the best of all worlds! My partner ordered the truffle Impossible burger which was smothered in so much delicious truffle mushroom flavor with the sauces and cheese. I loved how they had excellent non alcoholic drinks that were not sodas but still came with free refills! They had fresh, REAL lemonade and ice tea. We were able to change flavors on each refill too. The best was the blood orange lemonade which was so good that sadly they ran out of it after my partner's first cup.

Umami deserves some recognition for being one of the first chains to serve mainstream gourmet burgers and Impossible burgers, setting the tone for others to follow and serve $15 burgers as well. But LA is saturated with burger places, and when choosing from a long list of places to eat, Umami wouldn't fare well. Quality hasn't been the same since they first started, and although the food is decent, it's not worth the price tag. Sunny Side - parmesan frico | fried egg | truffle-thyme compound butter | truffled arugula | truffled aiol Patty was grilled to my liking (medium rare), sunny-side egg was perfectly cooked, and the amount of greens made it pretty balanced in taste. The parmesan crisp instead of a slice of cheese is unique, I like it. It's definitely one of my favorites next to the original. Sam's Crispy Chicken - fried chicken breast | special sauce | dill pickles | creamy coleslaw Not the best chicken sandwich you'll ever have, but pretty dang good coming from a burger place. Great if you're in the mood for something lighter. Slider Trio - select three | manly | truffle | sam's crispy chicken | impossible Miniature versions of their burgers. You get to try three, but the quality is worse compared to just having one. Manly is a bolder option, full of flavorful ingredients like house beer-cheddar cheese, bacon lardons, smoked onion strings, umami ketchup and mustard spread. Truffle is also flavorful, utilizing probably all the truffle ingredients they could find. Thin Fries - seasoned salt | ketchup & aioli sauce Not many restaurants serve shoestring fries! Super addicting to eat for some reason. Burgers range from $12 to $16, not including drinks or sides. That hurts knowing you can buy two full meals for the same price at In-N-Out, but it's not exactly a fair comparison. In the end, there are many instances I believe "you get what you pay for", I'm afraid Umami isn't one of those.

We stopped by Umami Burger for lunch during DineLA when we saw the great deal that they were offering! Usually a burger by itself is almost $15, but the DineLA deal was a burger + fries + nonalcoholic drink for $15. Talk about a good deal! I've been to Umami in the past but wasn't really a fan so wanted to see if it was better this time. I think there were 4 options for burger/sandwich, but I went with the Manly Burger, which comes with house beer-cheddar cheese, bacon lardons, smoked-salt onion strings, Umami ketchup, mustard spread. I thought the burger was good but it didn't wow me like the burgers at Plan Check. For my side, I chose the Maple Bacon Fries, which were crispy on the outside and soft on the inside. There was too much seasoning though so would ask for less next time. I also got to try the Truffle Fries which were yummy! How can you go wrong with these?? We also got the Passion Fruit Iced Tea for our drink and omg it was delicious!! So refreshing and not too sweet we loved it! I would still prefer Plan Check or even In-n-Out over Umami for the burgers, but glad I tried Umami with this deal! I do think Umami is pretty pricey without any deals. A burger + fries + drink can be around $25 which is a lot. But with this $15 Dinela deal, I thought we really got our money's worth!

I was really looking forward to this, since I've been wanting to try Umami Burger for a long time. My friends and I were seeing a show at The Orpheum next door, and Unami was right there. First off, my burger was good. It looks small at first, but it's a surprisingly thick patty. The Brussels sprouts were ok, a bit soggy, but the fries were pretty good. I still think The Standing Room in Torrance has the best burger in LA, followed by the Pocket Shack in Sunset Beach. Why the low rating? Service was really slow and had poor regard. Our cocktails came after about 15 mins, and we ordered more drinks about 10 mins before our burgers arrived, and those drinks came about 5 minutes AFTER I finished my burger. It would have been nice to have a drink with my burger. Our server should have asked us if we wanted to cancel those drinks, or better yet, should have not charged us for them. The burger was good and I'll give Umami another try.

Regardless of the food quality, on a busy Sunday night there was one waitress who was also hosting. Although she was doing a great job, she couldn't be everywhere at once. What was perplexing was the amount of bar staff and bus boys. They seemed to be overstated but unwilling to help the front of house staff. We asked for a macchiato and unfortunately they didn't have milk. After the meal we asked for a UFO and there was no ice cream. We asked for the check. The food came out at the same time and was 6/10. Again our waitress was excellent. This was a staffing issue.

Thought it be fun to try their new brunch thinking them adding a brunch menu would be hard to believe. I ate the chicken and waffles, tater tots and Sunnyside Burger without complaints. More of a stretch was the adaptation of Umami Burger's mimosas served in coupe glass instead of the traditional stemmed flute. In the end our server was knowledgeable, friendly and attentive and brought us bigger glasses to enjoy...so we tipped accordingly. What would have made this perfect? Fruit and coffee.

Not sure what went wrong with this place. Umami started with a BANG! Then fizzled out. Craft burger joints started popping up everywhere and Umami took a back seat. If you want to leave burger flipping to someone else, LA has enty of takers. In these polarized times, perhaps the one thing all of us can agree on is burgers are awesome! Umami Burger makes a great classic for $9.50. They shoud have taken a que from In n Out.....make one thing, make it great, stick to the great thing you make. Instead, some corporate idiot decided to expand the menu. Chilaquiles, tortas, chicken and waffles? Avocado toast, shashuka, truffled pastrami hash? I think this is where Umami lost its way. Shrinking the menu allows the kitchen to focus on burgers, after all, the name is " Umami Burger". L.A. has plenty of options for diners looking for Mexican or Southern Fried. Get back to flipping burgers and leave the chicken and waffles to Roscoe's.

Came for their DineLA$15 burger, side, and drink lunch offer. They didn't advertise it any where in the restaurant. In fact they didn't even have a printed copy of their DineLA menu. It felt as if they didn't want to partake in the offer. The server sounded almost surprised when we inquired. Burgers - my husband opted for their manly and I went with their sunny. We read from other reviews that they tend to overcook the patty. We purposely asked for medium rare hoping for medium. However we were ultimately both served medium well. With boatload of condiments, we were able to rehydrate the burgers to edible conditions. Maybe better off asking for rare? Sides: Bacon sweet potato and truffle fries. Both were served in full portions. If you ask for plain sweet potato or regular fries, they only come in half portions. Strange differences in the offer. Enjoyed the texture and flavor contrasts from the fries. Didn't care for the ginger aftertaste from bacon fries. Be sure to ask for the truffle sauce to be served on the side if you don't want your fries to get soggy. Drinks - house made lemonade and tea. Unlimited refills. But our servers never came by. Overall - glad we checked it out during the promotional offer. But $15 normally for just a burger... especially in the conditions they were served... no thanks, any fast food burger would do.

Ordered through a delivery app by my friend. Pricing was at best reasonable, definitely not cheap. Umami burger is not known for cheap food, and I am okay with that, because they do taste pretty great... but not super amazing. Due to this, I'd only choose it infrequently--once in a while craving category, perhaps. Cute delivery box, though. Anyway. Moving onto food choices: I decided to go all in for lunch. All things truffle. I innocently asked my coworker, would this turn out too savory? Too umami, perhaps. The answer was a resounding yes, but I'm taking a plunge for the heck of it. (Would I recommend it? Eh. I felt my meal was super savory, super heavy, super loaded with sodium, but I also kind achieved quite the happy satisfaction level. A light and heavy food items pairing would've been better, no doubt. But again, I did this on purpose. For fun.) 1) Truffle Burger Looked really flat. Kinda small. "Fancy" vibe. Might not look very enticing, but very delicious from first bite to last. It reminded me of Jack In The Box's Buttery Jack, but make it gourmet, plus truffle. I remember engulfing softness, a lot of butter and cheese, and a lot of truffle. Salty, really salty. But I love to abuse my kidneys like this every now and then. (I ate one and a half burgers that day.) - plus - 2) Truffle Fries Honestly, not that great, because they're already cooled down from the delivery process. It's got truffle scent and taste, cheese, but a bit stale. Presentation actually not half bad. I still liked it enough. I am not that hard to please when you gimme truffle... so there's that. Yeah, far from the healthiest meal, but... Mmmmmm... truffle. Overall, would order from Umami Burger again, but highly probably different choices. 4 stars? 5 stars? Oh, right, pricing. So 4. Also, let's not forget: Thank you, Umami, for providing an essential service in this less than ideal pandemic season. I appreciate it.

I went in on 6/10/2022 for dinner before a concert at the Orpheum Theatre next door. We arrived just before 6 pm and there were only two other parties seated. We ordered shakes and water while we looked at the menu. As the place filled up our server (one of only two working) got distracted and didn't take our order until 6:20 pm. After asking several times about our food, we received it at 7:08 pm. The server wanted to close out our ticket, but we still hadn't gotten our shakes. The food was okay, but not enough for me to come back because the service was so bad. BTW, I watched as the manager hid behind the bar and didn't offer any help. Finally cashed out at 7:20 pm without our shakes. Follow-up: I complained to corporate and they were willing to give me a credit toward a future visit, but they require that I download an app beforehand. I'm not willing to add an app that I probably won't use since the closest Umami Burger is over 50 miles away. I would prefer that corporate take up this complaint (and others) with the manager who doesn't seem very interested in his customers or employees.

May 29, 2022 @ 9:30pm. Burgers were very delicious but what made this a go to spot was the customer service. From the hostess to our waiter and even the food servers were amazing. They accommodated my daughter when she asked for specific condiments. They were super friendly and amazing. Great spot for an enjoyable and well priced burger with amazing service.

Really wish I read the reviews before placing a delivery from here. Im a Downtown Local and this place has completely changed in value an although prices are a bit cheaper its way over valued with terrible quality. I ordered a double cheese burger and it was Burnt entirely with added on (what looks like) grill resin. Burger patties you could tell are cooked frozen an only thing consumable was the fries with sauce, very disappointed for $17 meal

Trash food and the workers argue with you instead of making it right! If I say the food is cold then that's what it is. Just go back in the kitchen and replace my burger with a hot one! Matter fact don't worry because this was my first and LAST time dining here! Shake Shack is down the street I'm good! If I could leave 0 stars I would!

Came here for the impossible burger since we can't eat meat on Fridays. SERVICE - It was fairly empty so the host let me choose a table. Our waiter was a Cristian and he was really nice! We mentioned we wanted to try the impossible burger so he brought over a vegan menu and told us they were trying it out to see how customers liked them. He made suggestions as well. He was so excited for us to try them because he kept coming back to see what we thought. FOOD Caesar Salad - There was legit anchovies on the salad. Not a fan of the anchovies but the salad tasted fine. I wish there were more "croutons" on there to give it that crunch. Impossible Vegan BBQ - Cristian recommended this one and said it was his favorite. He said there was a lot of flavor with this burger. He was right! The slaw and the BBQ sauce packed in a ton of flavor and I liked the fresh jalapeños. They made the patty look like a meat one and the crispy char on it was a nice touch. Impossible Classic - Had to go with the classic since we were trying the impossible. This didn't have a flavor punch but it wasn't bland for anything. This was okay. Would we get a vegan burger again from here? Yes, it it was durning lent on a Friday. However, this did not make us vegan burger lovers. Great experience in trying them though!

Used to LOVE THE SUNNYSIDE BURGER & SKINNY TRUFFLE FRIES!!!! They changed their menu after SBE bought them out??? Not sure if all umani or just this location. Packaging for delivery was awesome and all but I preferred the OLD UMANI menu come on guys bring it back ); I just want my old SUNNYSIDE burger and skinny fries back ); If I wanted thick fries I'd go over to Mc Donald's... The new sunny burger has all this weird fusion ingredients and it just didn't taste like it used to //:

My memory of the original location has stuck with me all these years post college and I was excited there was one in walking distance to my friend's new condo. Unfortunately, the amazing ness I remembered wasn't there but it was still a solid meal. I wouldn't go out of my way to go here but if you're in the area, it's ok. Just so many other delicious options though, so unless it is convenient, I would skip it.

Ordered a crispy sandwich with manly fries but they charged me twice?!!! For manly fries...Service was not the best, it was only one person working and it seemed like he didn't want to be there. I asked for extra sauce but they didn't give me but it's like $1 a sauce?!! So why not give me the sauce that I paid for. My friend said her sandwich was stale so cmonnn....

Admittedly I haven't had Unami in probably 2 years or so. My so much has changed. It is 100% not the same place: the onion ring batter is less Tempura batter. The thin fries are now the regular fries like at Wendy's, There's no longer tempura avacado in the rising sun, the patty is tiny and overcooked, there's no "U" stamp on the bun. It used to be a really refined, delicate dining experience. It's not anymore. We were disappointed- we miss Unami Burger! That being said, cheesy tots were pretty good, and the truth is, if we had gotten this food from a random burger joint, I probably wouldn't the complaining. It was small. But not bad. I just wasn't Unami burger.

I mean they have the best burgers in the world. Perfect. U M A M I is L I F E. I save up for this meal. Worth every bite. I eat more than I think possible every time and never regret it.

Came here for impossible burgers, the impossible trufflemaker we ordered really tasted like real meat! Even I'm not a vegetarian, I could totally see how vegetarians are gonna love this place. Service was on point, staff was very attentive and polite! But why ranked it a 3-star?? There are a few reasons below: 1. Impossible Trufflemaker: **** Tasty but it was way too salty, I'm not so sure that was the sauce or the burger itself, I just know that we both felt extremely thirsty after eating it. 2. Sams Crispy Chicken burger: *** The chicken was crispy and fresh, it was actually good but not good enough for the price they charged. You know what I mean? I was expecting it with more flavors but it tasted just a bit too simple to me. 3. Cheesy tots: -* Too oily, I think I just had one or two and I didn't want any anymore. The tots didn't match well with the cheese..not sure if they put too much cheese in it or what, it just tasted not right... I really wanted to love this place since it has such a brilliant idea for vegetarians. I think with some minor changes, it would def be a greater place for burger lovers.

Umami used to be one of my favorite burgers. The last time I had Umami was before the pandemic. Ordered it a few days ago and it wat terrible. This is not the burger nor establishment that I remember. If you're expecting the same umami pre-pandemic. Don't waste your time.

What a bummer. Umami Burger has really gone down hill. On top of a really sad burger, they messed up our order (again) and forgot to include our dessert.

SAVE YOURSELF AND GO TO THE OTHER LOCATIONS. Smh.. this is by far the worst umami burger in existence. The first one I went to was in Santa Monica and it was great. Now I come this this location and the burgers look and taste completely different, honestly tasted like Burger King. And they got my wife's order wrong and her burger was undercooked to the point it was still pink! Then they remade it and the cheese isn't even melted smh. The fries didn't come seasoned as they're supposed to. And to top it off even the lemonade tasted like water! if this would have been my first time trying umami burger I never would have returned based off this experience. The business has changed from when they first opened. The burgers were juicy but literally no flavor. The fries were small and stringy and not robust like we remembered. We have a large party and the server had trouble getting our order straight even though we were one of the few tables in the place.
